    I removed my front air dam on my 2017 z71 and all I used was a small, low profile ratchet with a T15 torx bit. I removed 13 bolts underneath the bumper that held the dam on. Pretty tight so I used some wheel ramps for more clearance. And i removed a couple of bolts on the wheel well cover/guard for more room to work with. Overall it took my 15 minutes to do so. Fairly easy and better way of doing it than this video shows. I didn't break anything and it come off like a charm.

    Sweet looking truck. I'm glad to see a return of the small displacement turbo diesel engine. I know that larger displacement (6.6 litre Duramax, Power Stroke, Cummins) diesel engines may be more popular, they (truck makers) should know that not everyone needs or wants a full-sized truck, that sometimes a smaller truck would work just fine for whatever you need to use it for. I can think of several vehicles that would benefit from such a diesel engine. :)

    Here´s an idea. Couldn´t you just turn the clips where the screws go through upside down and therefore have the screwhead facing downward?

    I like this truck, but I have two problems with this truck.
    Bad front clearance on the bumper. Not something you want to have if you are going in and out of construction sites.
    And it's waaaay too expensive. A well-equipped 4x4 model, say the Z71, is in full-size truck range. Doesn't make any sense. $40k+ for a mid-size is just nuts.

    • @AoyagiAichou
      @AoyagiAichou 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mate, when you go in and out of construciton sites, you don't buy the top trim. That would be retarded, as is complaining about the price when 4WD starts at 28k.

    • @ApexIXMR
      @ApexIXMR 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AoyagiAichou mate, some people like to buy a nice truck they can use outside of work as well. Also, you'd think that front-end clearance wouldn't be an issue on a trim level that is advertised/marketed as "off-road".

    • @AoyagiAichou
      @AoyagiAichou 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ApexIXMR What stops you from using it outside of work when it's barebones? Nothing. And I'd like to see someone who buys an expensive leather-wrapped full-options pickup to do some dirty job with it. Good one, mate!
      And yeah, maybe that front-end clearance seems not enough for someone who thinks "off-road" is the same as "rock-crawling", but it's more than enough for the mentioned construction sites. Most of them anyway.

    • @forrest225
      @forrest225 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, and the fuel economy on the gassers is about the same as the 1500's too. Colorado is 24 highway, Silverado is 21 high way with 6.2 v8,, 23 highway with 5.3 v8, or 24with the v6.

    As others have said, no need to remove the bumper. You just need a small low profile 1/4" socket set (found Bostich BTMT72275 at Walmart). Took mine off in about 50 minutes or so. No need to lift it either, just crawl underneath.

    I just removed mine. While this video certainly shows one way to do this it is way more work than necessary. Put the front of the truck up on jack stands to get a bit of room to crawl under it and you can do the entire thing from underneath the truck in under 45 minutes. No removing fender lining or entire front facia. The two piece in the corners have to come out as well as the two 10 mm bolt but that is it.

    Kyle you are the Man this is coming from a technician I've never thought that I would've seen a car reviewer remove a part from a fleet test vehicle GM should give you one I've never seen them show how dramatically it improve the off-road ability of the truck plus it looks way better I wonder if you were able to compare how worse the fuel economy got on the hi-way compared with the air dam on you would think they would've engineered something that would've been a 5 minutes deal to remove the other advantage to buy a Diesel is you can put a performance tune in the engine ECU the gas version would not improve as much because it has no turbo and generally diesels responds well to tuning what did GM say about you removing the front bumper cover ? Excellent review keep it up thanks.

    Everyone here complaining about plastic bumpers and other components. Trust me, I could care less about fuel economy too, but I'm waiting for any of you to go have all the government economy regulations removed from law and the price of oil lowered. Plastic parts are in use because there is so much pressure for modern vehicles to adhere to modern fuel economy rules. Blame the government regulations and people themselves for trying to save pennies at the gas station.

    I love this new Colorado, but It sure doesn't look like there's much structure to that front end. I had an accident in my 2005 Colorado that did fairly minor damage to my truck (Bumper, Lower Valence/Bumper cover, Grille, Fog Lights). My bumper actually absorbed most of the impact force. I totaled the Pontiac that I hit. I bet you in this new Colorado the same accident would have taken out the entire front end.

    if someone is gonna tow alot especially closer 7000 pounds it would be better just to get a full size truck even if it is gas the price is crazy on these close to 40k and even higher then 40k depending on options you can buy a well equipped full size truck for mid 30s after rebates and incentives so even though your mpg is less your still saving that money by saving thousands.. Hell if someone is towing alot and is willing to shell out 40k plus for a truck you can easily find low mileage 50k and under mile diesel truck for around 40k for full size

    • @yz125ryder

      Say you are towing a 6000 pound travel trailer a couple times a month to go camping. The rest of the time you use your truck as a daily driver commuter to work. So, this size truck makes sense in that scenario. The diesel is great for those times when you were towing and going up and down steep grades like we have here in Colorado. Then, the smaller form-factor, easier parking, smaller footprint makes more sense in city driving. Also you cannot get a diesel with a higher torque numbers in a half ton GM truck. These midsize trucks are also way easier to fit into a 2 car garage.

    Maybe the removal of the front header should have been a seperate video, I came here to watch a review, not a "How to".

    you don't have to take the face off to take it off ...
    you can remove the hex screws with the front attached to the truck, you just cant use a "Straight Screw Driver"
    Hate rear red blinckers,
    they need to ban them, really

    • @saabkyle04
      @saabkyle04  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For any "average joe" like myself, this process isn't hard, just takes time. I don't understand how it can be done any other way, there's just no room up in there. If you want to save money versus taking it somewhere, this is a great way to get it done with relative ease.

    • @gsilva220
      @gsilva220 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, red turn signals suck. You can't quickly tell if the driver is braking or blinking. You have to wait at least two blinking cycles to really know. I almost rear ended a ford fusion because of that.

      ***** I refuse to buy anything with rear red blinckers

      If one side lights steady while the other flashes, it means the signal is on. If you're at a safe following distance, you can react accordingly and quick enough. What they need to ban is stupidity.

      You "don't understand how it can be done any other way"? Well let me explain. You crawl underneath the truck and remove all of the screws with a hex driver. Did mine this way in about 20 minutes. I have no idea why you removed the entire front clip of your truck.

    Thanks for sharing. We have a same mind of truck but mine is shortbed. I plan to take my air dam off as well. Do you lower the air in your tires before off roading?

    You can ask the dealership to take it off also. Three engine options is great but I'm wondering if a LT1 6.2 v8 crate motor will fit in this. Anybody knows?

    • @GraniteBees

      LT1 and its comparable LS brother are really not much bigger than the 3.6 DOHC V6 engine offered in this truck. Long story short, it would fit.

      There's a guy on the forums who already did a 5.3 swap. I'm pretty sure he was looking to do a 6.2 swap as well. Lots of fabrication necessary. But I'm sure it's a fun truck to drive. Not sure how it would be off-road though. I don't think he did any off roading.
