- The first time I did this, the Pocket 3 had an advantage. This time, both camera's are strapped to my chest to make it fair. I also compare the internal mics and the DJI Mic 2 throughout the video. Hey Anthony, yeah the DJI Mic 4 internal mics are definitely better than the Pocket 3 internal mics on a scooter. I surprised me too!

I'm having a great time using my Pocket 3. I've got a Hero 12, not an Action 4, and it's getting a lot less use now that I have the Pocket 3. And as I mentioned in my camera bag post, I use the Action 2 with the magnetic necklace when going to places where I want to be less conspicuous, like the Oregon Country Fair. I enjoyed this!
Hello Ted, yeah...The Action 2 was an interesting move by DJI, but it certainly has its advantages for small factor! While the Action 4 plays great with DJI Mic 2, I heard that people really like the general look that GoPro 12 gives.

Hey Adam! Ya'll really need to try that restaurant and vlog it! Not many things as neat as eating at a waterfront restaurant! Interesting results here. @6:06 you can see the advantage off the Pocket 3 with more dynamic range and the ability to adjust more quickly, however because it overexposed a tad, I think the overall winner here is the Action 4. I know you know this but I usually lower the exposure to -0.3 or -0.7 to compensate for this but it is definitely a knock agains the Pocket 3 (there aren't many). I also was surprised at how well the Action 4 sounded even with the wind!
Hey Tim, thanks for your thoughts and feedback. Yeah, I did have the Pocket 3 at a -0.7 EV since I wasn't using ND and worrying about motion blur. Maybe could have brought it down to -1.0 EV.. I'm just bummed I accidentally set the Action 4 with Normal Color Profile 😂
@@TravelingAhn I didn't catch that. Maybe that was it. As I kept watching I was wondering if you color graded the D-LogM on the Pocket 3 because the contrast between the two was throwing me off. I did notice that the Action 4 had much more contrast and that's something you don't want for skin tones but it worked well on the landscape. At times it was a bit too contrasty, but it made the Pocket 3's footage look like it lacked detail. Maybe the ND does make a big difference with landscape? ??? Uggg...it never ends does it? But, on the upside it's endless content...

My Pocket 3 will be delivered Tuesday. I am thinking of putting some effort into a channel that I started, but didn’t get very far.
I struggle with feeling comfortable in front of a camera. Which I find strange, because I’m pretty much an extrovert.
I’m clueless about editing and cameras in general. Where do you suggest I start learning? I use mostly Apple products.
Hello Jeremy! Thank you for subscribing! Yeah, that's cool that we are both from the Mid-West! Congrats on the purchase of the Pocket 3! Regarding editing software, you really have 3 main choices between Final Cut, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. That easiest to learn is Final Cut, but the more powerful on the other two. I still use Final Cut Pro. But you can use the other ones on an Apple Mac as well.

That holiday sounds great, enjoy. QQ have you found it easy to color grade the dlog and is it worth it vs natural? I think I'll finally try it this weekend, I have paranoia of shooting a bunch and then my color grading looks horrible lol. Your footage looks great
Hello Brian, yeah...I prefer D-Log from the Pocket 3 in most situations unless I am doing a vlog style run and gun, I'll go with normal profile. In most cases, you can just throw on the DJI Lut for the Pocket 3 and just do really minor adjustments. Give it a try 😃

Hello, thank you for your comment. The Pocket 3 was utilizing the D-Log M while the Action 4 was using normal color profile.
For strange reason it sounded hollow for the Dji mic 2 (32 float)? The action 4 internal mic sounded good though. Not sure if is my speakers or not. Other than that, another great video!
Hi Antonio, so I didn't do the DJI Mic 2 any justice. I had the mic covered by a sweatshirt and then I had my jacket zipped to my neck. In Hindsight, I should have just let the DJI Mic 2 out in in the open with the wind muff. That's why it sounds so bad 😂 The Action 4 internal mics were definitely a surprise!
Hey Ahn, do you think the Pocket 3 mounted on your chest or backpack and could capture while riding a motorcycle? I’m worried about damaging the Pocket 3 with the wind (asia speeds, not usa) - but I would prefer not being forced to get an action camera and manage two cameras.
Hello Rishio! 🤔 that's a good question. I personally think it would be okay. However, I've only used it on a scooter that tops out at 25 KMH. So, not sure the speed of a motorcycle would affect the gimbal. I have the 2 year replacement, so I would test it out. But if you don't have that, you might reconsider. Sorry, not the best answer!
We’re in Japan having a holiday at the moment, not having a blast however that’s life. New years back home for us is so much more lively, but that’s life. Anyway thanks again for the video enjoy watching.

Hello Philip, yeah...I completely agree! I'm a huge fan of the Action 4 and having that as a B-Cam and a backup A-Cam when the weather is bad is a great thing 👍

@@TravelingAhn METAL!!!!! I think that was the biggest problem right? It overheated a lot probably because metal isn't a great heat dissipator. I actually don't know if that's true. I just made that up.

Action cameras are so versatile. Action sounded way better. Just seems like an easy call to me. Even if you only walk and talk I’d take the durability and versatility of action cameras in water.

@@TravelingAhn idk. Forgive me for being so dogmatic. It just blows me away vloggers could have an entire setup in an action 4, even throw it in their suitcase without a case! And not even worry about it. It’s the size of a matchbox. And they are set. And it can go rain, sleet snow even underwater. Haha. Well I realize it’s just my opinion but I’ll never get it.

I only can see this video now Adam :) Great comparison as always :) Why the action 4 sound is so better in comparison of the others sound sources? The mic 2 and the pocket 3 seem so much further away! :( And I have another question: how can you have the mic 2 32bits record and the internal sound of the pocket 3 at the same time? If I turn on the mic2, the pocket take this mic 2 as sound source! (or am I wrong? ) :) Cheers Adam :)
I feel that either mic is set to front only or back only with mic being covered due to mounting. I have a osmo 3 and mics sound way better than this. Even the mic 2. I never strapped on the chest so aim not sure

Hello Michael, thank you for your feedback and kind words. So....This was my fault when it came to the poor DJI Mic 2 quality. I had it under my sweatshirt and then I had my jacket zipped up to my neck. So the Mic was under two large articles of clothing. Completely my fault 🤦🏻♂️.
Oh, and the internal DJI Mic 2 is a separate recording that is on the actual Mic that you transfer from the Mic to the computer. In addition, there is a setting in the Pocket 3 settings to record both the DJI Mic and the internal Mics at the same time, that way you have a backup. So I was able to use both recordings as samples. Does that make sense? Hope that helps!

What shutterspeed did you have on pocket 3 and action 4?
If i remember right i think you could turn off the microphones except the back/front? Maybe that could be good for wind?
Hello, the answer is 10 bit. To be fair with the DJI Mic 2, I had it zipped under a sweatshirt and my coat zipper was zipped to my neck. So, I really didn't do it justice.

The Pocket 3 was in Auto Shutter Speed to be fair with the Action 4 with a Auto Shutter range from 1/200-1/8000. Yeah, you are likely correct with the Mic settings back/front!
I am not a profesional. Was the action 2 really shot in 1080p? It looks pretty good actually.
Yes, I had to since my spare MicroSD card wasn't fast enough to ensure a 4K recording!
I am wondering if the DJI Osmo 4 has the same Battery , Battery case and extension rod as the OSMO action 3
Oh, so sorry...I never purchased the Action 3 to know otherwise. I did some research and it seems the combo pack does come with the selfie stick and additional batteries.
Where did you have the DJI mic 2 placed? Sounds super muffled and low.

Don't you have any overheating issues with Action 4? I watched many review that showed that Action 4 overheat every 30 minutes when it recorded in 4K 60FPS.
Those videos are actually pretty old. About 6 month ago. Or maybe the issues have been solved in the firmware update?
Hello, I personally have not had any issues with overheating. I was in Vietnam, Hong Kong and Thailand, where it was warmer in January and it didn’t have any issues there.
