I have the exact same mower. I’ve had it for 4 years and haven’t changed the oil yet 😬. In my defense, it’s only used for a small portion of my yard that is hilly and bumpy where my dogs go to the bathroom. I’m changing the oil and air filter today. Blade is in good shape. Thanks for the video.
My mower quit in the middle of the yard. I’ve changed spark plugs and oil before, but struggled with the plug cover in the mower. When I saw you struggle a little, it made me feel better. Lol. I also didn’t know that Home Depot had the tune up kit and I WORK THERE! Thanks for the video! The mower is running great again.
Hey, thanks for the spectacular and straight-to-the-point how-to video. I was wondering if you could provide a link to a replacement blade if you know where to find one. Thanks again for your help
Thank you for your video. I was able to service my lawn mower. I did take the blade to someone to sharpen since I didn't have the tools for that but got the rest done in a snap.
I used to do the bottom scraping. I purchased a pressure washer for other reasons. I tried the pressure washer on the lawn mower and it works BETTER than scraping.
My Honda Mower Engine, same as yours, uses the NKG BPR5ES except when used in pressure washers. The BPR5ES has a wider temperature range tolerance and is called out in the GCV160/GCV190 engine manual, page 10, as the recommended spark plug for all applications EXCEPT Pressure Washers.
Thank you. I plan to try this tune up this weekend. A little nervous but hopeful that I can do it. My mower sounds terrible and definitely needs a new blade! It is Craftsman but not sure if it’s the same model. Fingers crossed!
Wow! You have no idea how much you helped me with this video. I am going to have to start doing lawn mower tune ups myself and I was highly intimidated. This doesn’t look so bad except I won’t be sharpening the blades myself. That part was kind of scary. Lol
Deck wash does work. Use it after every use. Close off fuel. Hook up hose and run water full pressure. Start mower and let it run until out of fuel. No massive clumps of grass left ever
Thanks for this video sir. I just got mine today and haven't used it yet. The red throttle handle (idk what it's called) didn't come attached, but I think I put it on correctly. Also, I was told that boat gas is best to use because it won't gum up the carburetor. What are your thoughts about the boat gas?
The bail handle is easy to attached, ethanol free fuel is best, but very expensive. The great thing about this mower is the fuel shut off value. Turn the valve off, and run the carburetor out of fuel. It will save your carburetor jets from being being gummy.
@@YouMadeMeLawn Thank you again sir. Now I'm waiting for that season to start mowing again and I will keep these things in mind. Now if I can get my old Troy built 42" lawn tractor to work again.....
Helpful video. I wish you would have taken it a little slower when you opened the air filter door. I am struggling to open mine. I tried to push down on those top hunches, but still can't open it up.
Yes, it shouldn’t hurt anything keeping the gas in the tank. If you tip the mower sideways, ALWAYS tip it oil cap side down (carburetor side up). You could use the fuel shut off valve to stop the flow of gas as well if you want.
I have the same mower. I can start it and it runs for about 20 seconds, sputters, and then shuts off. No smoke or anything. It just stops running. Any advice is appreciated.
@@YouMadeMeLawn Thank you so much! Turns out, the main injection pin was clogged with stuff. I got some carb cleaner and got it all cleaned out. Runs like a charm now!
Everyone follows the mfgr's recommended oil for they know best, right? I disagree. Multi-grade detergent suspends the particles which the filter would collect but there is no filter in a lawn mower. Old school, including my dad I referenced in your 'using' video, one runs straight 30 weight NON-detergent oil. (and what ever happened to cleaning a spark plug? LOL) I don't own a snow blower, where the 10W (10W-30) seems correct because I know how freezing weather and a kick start Harley using 60W is an adventure. Who mowes grass in winter? Wish I could get a definitive answer out of someone on lawn mower oil. Shame on you for not cleaning the underside every time. :) I use a flat file on the blade and in the absense of a balancer, a nail into a wall stud will work. Overall, your video helped people. good job.
True statement - if I cut and the lawn is wet and sticking to the mower then I scrape and clean it. If the grass is dry it doesn’t cake under the deck like in the video.
How many useful things have you posted here Vito? This dude has helped many people and has never claimed to be a professional mechanic. You create the negative world you live in 👌

What a great video!! Thank you so much for making this... I am going to try this today!

PITTL! Basics are the best! Some people forget to do the maintenance part of lawncare
Thank you for your video. I was able to service my lawn mower. I did take the blade to someone to sharpen since I didn't have the tools for that but got the rest done in a snap.
I just got through my first year with this mower. It’s time for the tuneup tomorrow morning.
Very helpful, didn't need my husband at all so thanks!
I've got the same mower. I can't wait to give mine this same tune up now. Thanks and keep up the great work!
When you treat your equipment well, it will serve you well.
@@YouMadeMeLawn 38, just bought my first home. you are single handedly teaching me how to mow / take care of my lawn/ mower. Thank you
Thanks for all the info on the M250. Best info I could find. All 3 videos are great!

For sure! Pressure washer is the way to go.

This was extremely helpful, thank you
Really great video. Only thing I would do diff is to run the mower for a bit then pouring the old oil out.
ArmyFtBall Great tip. I did forget to mention that, but I did cut the lawn just before filming this video.
Thank you. I plan to try this tune up this weekend. A little nervous but hopeful that I can do it. My mower sounds terrible and definitely needs a new blade! It is Craftsman but not sure if it’s the same model. Fingers crossed!
Honda engine will take 12 ounces of oil. Briggs and Stratton may be more, check the dipstick.

Great video...I am in the middle of it right now...about to change oil...Thx!!!
Thanks for this video! I have a Honda engine mower as well and these kits really help maintain the mower every year.
Sure does, plus it’s easy to do and could save you big money down the road if not done.
Great dad. Great video. Thank u
Very helpful. Thank you
Glad to help
Thank you. Very helpful video

Your check the oil without screwing the dipstick in. Other than that, great video.
I’ve heard it both ways and plus it doesn’t make a significant difference either way.
Good job Man but you forgot to mention about the balancing the blade after sharping....
Helpful video. I wish you would have taken it a little slower when you opened the air filter door. I am struggling to open mine. I tried to push down on those top hunches, but still can't open it up.
Well done brother, catch this Sub bub. How is the mower holding up? Thinking about a push mower for my ditch line.
Keep with the annual maintenance and it’s treated me well. Light weight and easy to maneuver. Here’s to another year with it!
Great video, but I do have a question, do you keep the gas in the tank while cleaning / replacing the blade?
Yes, it shouldn’t hurt anything keeping the gas in the tank. If you tip the mower sideways, ALWAYS tip it oil cap side down (carburetor side up). You could use the fuel shut off valve to stop the flow of gas as well if you want.
@@YouMadeMeLawn Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the video!
great video! SO that oil bottle is enough for the oil change? The oil quantity on it is how much??
Yes, 12 ounces in Hondas. Always refer to your owners manual for proper capacity.
What tool did you use to sharpen blade? I’ve never done it myself. Do you recommend it vs having it serviced?
Thanks for the video! This kit is now $27 at HD 😢
thank you!
Thank you for the video 🙏🏼
What kind of oil are you supposed to use?
10W-30 is what I use in all of my mowers
I have the same mower. I can start it and it runs for about 20 seconds, sputters, and then shuts off. No smoke or anything. It just stops running. Any advice is appreciated.
Sounds like you need a carburetor cleaning?
@@YouMadeMeLawn Thank you so much! Turns out, the main injection pin was clogged with stuff. I got some carb cleaner and got it all cleaned out. Runs like a charm now!
Cool! My problem is that every time I tip my mower over for any reason, it never wants to start again. So I'm traumatized to even change the oil.
I bet I know the issue. Always tip the mower oil cap side down, gas cap up. If you tip the other way you flood the engine and it won’t start.
thankyou

cleaning your mower after every use would make a lot more sense than letting it get caked up. That's honestly really bad for the mower
True statement - if I cut and the lawn is wet and sticking to the mower then I scrape and clean it. If the grass is dry it doesn’t cake under the deck like in the video.
