Funny how it's a struggle for the automotive world to return to simplicity with everything turbo and stupid transmission problems.
I like this truck. The dual cam timing is technology enough, that's where it counts.
Do you know if this 6 speed is the same that was in the 2011 version? I drove that and Loved it with the 5.0L. I don't care if the 3.3L is less HP, bordering on 300 is loads already.

I bought an 18 2.7L with the 10 speed tranny. During the first two weeks the shifting felt off like shift points were off. Took it to dealer and mechanic said it takes 1,500 miles to “learn” driving style. I thought he was full of sh$t but I already owned it so I drove it home. Very gradually the vehicle started to shift smoother and smoother. We took it in for oil change at 5,000 miles and the mechanic asked me about the tranny. I said it took a little longer than 1,500 miles but yes it’s smooth. He said that because two people were driving it while it was learning. I guess he was right. The only shift we feel now is from first to second gear and it’s very slight and you have to be looking for it or you will not feel it. The other gears are super smooth, cannot feel it shift! No joke. It’s a great transmission and the vehicle is freaking awesome. Best vehicle I have ever owned.
Thank you for the vid on the 3.3L. I have seen a few and the engine sounds tight. The wife would like a second truck and I may buy a 3.3L F-150, they really drop the price to move them. Enjoy your truck. Peace

I considered one of these. I was able to find one with the 3.73 rear end gears which is going to help out. The problem is most of those trucks have few options. It didn't have the locking rear diff which was a deal breaker for me. In the midwest with snow you don't always need it but when you do its nice to have. Unfortunately when running the numbers it was just as cheap to buy a f250 as it was a 150 (cheaper in some cases). I ended up with a 2019 f250 gas which I love so far. Same boat though. No turbos, 6.2 gas, 6 speed. Hopefully less to go wrong over the years.

I have a 2021 5.0 10 speed with ~1500 miles on it right now, it does seem to be driving better the longer I drive it, my main concern right now is there is a delay going into drive sometimes, like it will roll back if I'm on an incline going from R to D. Probably going to take it to the dealer soon for that. The 10 speed is kind of a bummer because I love the 5.0, sometimes it's great, sometimes it just has weird quirks and doesn't know how to shift or respond to how I'm driving. Most of the time I have a light foot because I don't really beat on my truck, but sometimes I want to use my 5.0 and it gets confused.

    • @BigTankDriver101

it notice the same issue, especially during local driving and at traffic stops. perhaps it has to do with the combination of cylinder deactivation and the 10-spd transmission

    • @Terminxman
      @Terminxman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@BigTankDriver101 I still have the truck and never took it in, I did a PCM relearn and it made little to no difference. I'm starting to suspect the same thing as the harsh down shifts at low speeds and general odd behavior doesn't seem to be an issue on 2.7s/3.5s from what I see. I have a modified exhaust so I'm hyper aware of when cylinder deactivation happens, and I can definitely see how essentially causing misfires while the PCM is deciding how/when to shift could cause issues. I'm just hoping there's a simple way to disable cylinder deactivation at some point, or a way to modify drive modes so that you could use say sport mode, or tow haul which both disable CD but without the shift behavior of either.

Thank you for your report and I am sorry to hear you had a hard time with 3.5L V6 with 10 speed transmission. I drive 2018 Expedition with 3.5L V6 with 10 speed, and it just passed 10K miles. It is not F150 but I think they are basically the same motor and transmission, so I hope to share my experiences of different outcomes. My Expedition is a very smooth and quiet truck and I am always impressed with the 10 speed transmission about its smoothness without any noticeable shift shocks at all. I use Normal mode (2WD) and Sports mode (4WD) interchangeably, and each has different characteristic of engine rev. and gear shifting. I enjoy both modes (especially Sports, but it is too much of fun, so I use it in limited times to save gas) and have never had strange feel or issues on the 10 speed transmission so far. According to the gear indicator, gears are skipped like 1 to 3 to 5 to 7 and such. I appreciate the factory shift settings, I feel they are optimum with using the capacity of 10 gears efficiently, so that a driver can feel acceleration very naturally and smoothly. There may be some differences in the gear - motor rev. setting between Expedition and F150, which caused the issues that you experienced.
That I do not know, and hoping someone in the TH-cam community can tell the reason why.

I'd venture to say the 3.3 is less proven than the ten speed transmission. It's still fairly new, on its second year. I know it's all in the programming, but the ten speed in the Mustang GT is freaking amazing. I can see where in the truck that it would hunt for gears way more often.

4.2 was also underrated. Lil loud but nice torque curve considering its very, very old internal design. It was a turd in Econoline vans but 4x2 f150s and Ford Freestar minivans got this mill and it worked geat, very reliable beyond 300k miles... automatic transmissions were not so good back then unformally. Good you have the m5od

Just traded the 2018 3.3 for a 2022 2.7 with the 10 speed. The 3.3 was great, zero problems for 70k. Loving the 2.7 will run 80 mpg in 10th gear with no effort.
It's also getting better gas mileage than the 3.3 because it not working nearly as hard.
Sorry to disagree but would not go back to the 3.3 after owning the 2.7.

I have a 2020 5.0 and it's rattling more the more i drive it. The 10 speed was pretty smooth and now its also shifting, jerking, upshifting and downshifting excessively.I also get a thump when i turn it on sometimes, and also when shifting between PRND And i just hit 6000 miles smh. Other than that it's an awesome truck and I really enjoyed it. Let's see how long it'll last

I had a 19 that bit the dust at 168k. It was a 5.0 10 speed. It used oil from the beginning and the 10 speed was awful. The previous 5 F150's I used for work were run hard and loaded to gvw always and they all went well over 200k. Needless to say Ford needs to get their act together before I'll consider another one.
