No, there has never been a problem in India with the Jews. What the narrator was saying is that the Jews were expelled from Spain and Portugal. Some of these Jews ended up in Goa which was a Portuguese colony. That’s why they faced the inquisition there and so they migrated to other parts of India. It was the Portuguese in Goa who were troubling the Jews, not the Indians.

@@irondisulfide7480 Agreed. But the point here is that the Portuguese were persecuting the Jews because they were Jews. They were oppressing the Indians, because they were colonizers and also wanted to convert them to Christianity. This lady is Israeli and she’s reacting to a video about Jews in India, I didn’t think it was relevant to state what the Portuguese were doing to Indians. I’m fully aware of what the Portuguese were doing in India. This is the nature of colonizers the world over. The British were the same.

Portuguese even killed many Christians despite converting to Christianity from Hinduism, because they helped their relatives who were living there as Hindus.
And they attacked Jews..Budhists and Jains.
Goa region has places of worship of all these religions 800 years or more yrs old but recently rebuild.Thousands of icons idols of Hindu deities recovered from waterbodies( thrown by Hindus while escaping or by Portuguese while destroying temples.Rvery family has shrine with their family deity( kula devathas.Grama devatas etc)

"Relação das Perseguições que os Inglêses Fizeram aos Christianos em Japão" (Relation of the Persecutions that the English Made on Christians in Japan), written by Diogo do Couto in the 17th century.
Additionally, the "Notícias de Ormuz, e do Reino de Ormuz" (News from Ormuz and the Kingdom of Ormuz) by António Bocarro offers an account of the Inquisition in Goa during the 17th century. Bocarro was a Portuguese scribe and chronicler who wrote about the events he witnessed or learned about during his time.
Then there is the Inquisition records themselves, known as the "Cartas Anuas," another set of documents that contain information about the trials and interrogations conducted during the Inquisition. These records were annual reports sent to the Portuguese king, detailing the activities of the Inquisition in various regions, including Goa.
These are all recorded by the Portugese writers. Then there is personal experience by the Hindus of the region.

@4:08 In Goa Jews had problems because in the 1400s Portuguese were the first European colonial settlers in India although the Portuguese weren't successful much in colonialism as they tried to forcefully convert people to Christianity and so, challenged mainly by the Indian Maratha Kingdom. But, the Portuguese with an alliance with Britishers managed to make a stronghold in some small regions especially in Goa. And Jews who arrived in Goa were fleeing from the Portuguese landed in Portuguese controlled area.
And, do you know "Judaism" in Indian languages is called "Yahudi" religion somewhat pronounced like in Hebrew. This also tells that Indians had direct contact with Jews much before European influence.

There is also a very famous Jewish bakery in New Market in the heart of Kolkata (Calcutta) in eastern India. This is more than a century old. There is also a synagogue there; the street is named as Synagogue Street, in the business district of the city. At present very few Jewish families are staying in the city, including the owner of the baker's shop.
The curious thing is that this bakery shop is owned by a Jew, most the workers are Hindus and Muslims. On the Christmas Eve, there is a long queue in multiple turns round the shop, some standing even overnight to buy the Christmas cakes. Most of the clients are Hindus and many Christmas too.
It is a perfect example of people from 4 different religions Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Jews living together in a symbiotic relationship, with lot of goodwill for each other. Israel and Palestine can learn this art of living together, which is found only in India, the ancient land of wisdom.

Some Jews in Maharashtra and Gujarat adopted the business of oil pressing mustard or flaxseed and they observe total abstinence from work on Saturday, the day of sabbath, so they were called “Shaniwar teli “ which means the Saturday oilpressors.

@that1israligirl In my city Calcutta the Baghdadi Jews settled and the community invested a lot in the early development in the city during colonial days. Although today their numbers are dwindling(mere 100) yet their contribution can be measured by the number of roads and monuments named after the people from the community

I think since both Hinduism and Judaism are really old religions, and are both the original religions of their respective regions, neither perceived any threat to them from any other religion and thus did not establish any strong defence mechanism, or any compulsion to spread the religions. We have great love and respect for Israel.❤

The Marathi jews he mentioned, in Marathi, many surnames are formed by adding '-kar' to the village name which means 'resident of'. That nomenclature is widely used among Marathi hindus. But there are some Jewish surnames too which were formed using this nomenclature. Also, there's Marathi-speaking population in Israel, who are jewish people from Maharashtra.

As an Indian, it makes me proud that our nation not only hosted and sheltered the Jews but they thrived and prospered in our country without any persecution.
When the Zoarastrians of ancient Persia landed on the shores of India as a refugees, India hosted them too and they became known as the Parsis (from Farsi). And they too thrived and prospered. Some of the most celebrated Indian scientists were Parsis.
India's problem was never the so called multiculturalism. It is with conquests and conquerors that India had a problem.

Major General Indian Jew Gabi Chahulkar has worked in the Isreali army. He explained us all situations about Palestinian issue in our language. He migrated to Isreal in 1990 due to some financial problem but he wants to live in India.Unfortunately,he had to leave his country for his better future.Another example is JFR Jacob who played major role in the formation of Bangladesh during 1971 Indo-Pak war. He was offered to join Isreali army but he refused to accept offer. He told that he is Indian by birth and he will serve only for his nation. Lastly, I want to conclude you that Majority of Indians are nationalist but a group of people always speak anti-nationalist statement for their own political issues.

As a Maharashtrian the Bene Israeli community to me at least doesn't seem like an "other" people but my own since they're also known as Marathi Jews or Marathi speaking Jews. They mostly settled in rural Kokan region & some even have typical Kokani sounding surnames. There's even a documentary video on youtube along with many other videos of Marathi speaking Jews. One thing is that Indians in general has no reason to have problems with Jews since we've no scripture based animosity or history like other Abrahamic religions do. Also it helps that Jews don't seek conversions, so them even believing Hindus are committing some sin by worshipping multiple deities or idols doesn't really becomes a problem.
