This song will never die until good soul remains alive..
This song was a favourite of my mum, who is still alive. She loved this song about about 18 years ago and she still knows it. Sadly, she has Alzheimer's now. She remembers the song, but hearing it makes me cry. The words like "so little time", and "trying to make a move just to stay in the game" bring me to tears. She has struggled, so much of her life has changed as we have gotten older, moved away, she had to retire from a job she loved etc.... and she was "just trying to make a move just to stay in the game", but she couldn't.... it breaks my heart, but she still smiles and sings when this song comes on for her.... Everyone, take care of each other, your parents and yourselves x

Today (18/02/2023) this song started playing in my head. My partner of 14 years is changing and no matter what I do, I don't think I can stop the inevitable happening. At 50 years old, you'd think you'd be able to control "feelings", but it goes to show no matter how old and experienced you are in life, it still hurts and you find a song that relates to your situation....this is mine.

This might sound like hyperbole, but for me this is one of the greatest songs ever written. It always reduces me to tears. I couldn’t listen to it for about five years as a result, now I think it’s just important to let the tears out. So that’s what I’m currently doing again. Thank you for summing that feeling up so completely, so I can return to it whenever I feel disconnected and my life is slipping away again. It’s such a genuinely beautiful song. Thank you Keane.

I remember listening to this flying out of Iraq as a soldier in 2005 and I realized how much I had changed some for worse I had several friends hurt but I had a deeper appreciation for life and the simple things of it and it made me realize just how short life is.

It's funny how music can so strongly relate to a certain time or experience in your life.
2004-2005 I used to work as the day shift ops manager at a remote industrial plant a good 90 mins drive from my home city. 'Hopes & Fears' was on repeat in the car during that time. 15 years later and this album will always be connected to my daily commute back then. It was a hard and demanding job but I got to work with some of the finest and toughest men in the business, the camaraderie was strong, and by the time I left I'd made a number of long-lasting friendships. It was a good gig. I miss those days. This song and others from the album take me back right away.
This is really beautiful. My memory of this is not so poignant - but rather, being 18 years old and having this quiet sadness about approaching adulthood, and with it the dampening of my still pretty wild feelings.
Nice to read your experience of this. I never really talked to anyone about how deeply this song hit me - but looking through these comments here, I see clearly that I was not alone :)

My parents use to play this song for me when I was a small idiot (baby), they say that I was excited every time they played Keane and specially this song. Lately I listened to this song in a restaurant and it was like an automatic connection, like warm feelings the exact second I noticed it was a song I knew. Here I am again, proud to be one of the first fans of Keane and specially this song. I knew it as a young man and I know it now...this is my favorite band ever.

When this song was released my Dad had just been diagnosed with dementia, it hit really hard as to him every one was changing but he believed he was the same. He also loved this song. Brings happy/sad memories to me every time I listen to it. A true masterpiece despite being written about a totally different subject.

I have been alone for the last 5 years. It is almost better than the Rollercoaster of emotions and all the time spent and drama of being in a relationship. For the last 3 years I have really dove into my passions and creativity and have now amassed quite a catalog of things I created that will still exist even if I dropped off the planet tomorrow. Find your passion and or hobbies try to become the person you have always thought you could be but never fully invested the time and effort into to becoming that person and life will work itself out. You will be more desirable to others for a relationship because you are building a legacy and you might not even want one because your legacy is your priority.
