    I ran across this video searching solenoids for our 98 Dodge Durango transmission, and I don't even own a car like this, but I watched the entire video because it was done really well, and I just enjoyed watching it. lol. nice video.

    I just did this today. I removed the transmission lines and the speed sensor to get the bolt in the middle. I also removed everything I mentioned to make it easier to scrap the old gasket off.

  • @ultim8brickie
    @ultim8brickie 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi, the two connetions you removed and labelled when you removed the 8mm bolt from solenoid were the shift senors, also when you put back the new solenoid you should cover the diaphram with something to stop dirt dropping in during re-assembley

  • @RichpinTv
    @RichpinTv  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Remove the battery and tray and unplug the connector to the TCC solenoid on top of the transmission and clean it thoroughly with a plastic-safe electronic cleaner such as CRC QD Electronic Cleaner. Make sure that the pins/sockets in the connector make a good connection and don't have corrosion .

    Thanx richpin06a.
    That trans I replaced in wifes Caravan went great. however on road test, stuttered 1st-2nd/ 2nd-3rd. Had a quick learn done to NO avail. On way home still stuttered slipped in out of 3rd @ 50 mph(speed limit was 55) had to stop for person making left, it stuck in 1st(slow ride home). Got error codes P0732(incor ratio)&P1776 (sel in low rev).
    Moveras sent me new solenoid pack(warranty)
    Anyway; thanx for your heads up videos.

    @NewWorldCorp I do not do enough transmission work to give you a definitive answer on this one.That being said i would not think you did any damage seeing that it shifts normally .

  • @nflybye
    @nflybye 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It usually is the same one. And yes, you should do either one of two things or even both. 1. re-learn the system by erasing the error with a computer for your vehicle. 2. By pulling the negative off of the battery it can usually reset everything for you. Ask a mechanic if your model will reset.
    Also, erratic shifting can also be the transmission control solenoid. It is on my 2003 Doge Grand Caravan 3.3L Flex. Not just a leak. I don't have one.

    It can leak from the solenoid or the gasket.When it leaks your fluid level can get low leading to shifting problems.

    great video Rich...i think this might be the same problem im having but hopefully it's just the pan gasket. gotta check first if it's leaking from up by the solenoid as you mentioned. now i gotta get my lazy butt off this computer n actually do some work. B-)

    The relearn process can be done with out the DRBIII.The Snap On Modis can do it too.With Chrysler automatics,don't use dextron and use the ATF+4 fluid only.The Chrysler transmissions shift and work better with the ATF+4 fluid.The middle bolt,remove the speed sensor and can get to the bolt with a socket

    one thing that makes it easier is to remove the cooler hoses to get to that center bolt with a swivel or wobble extension, also on some 41te transmossions on older vehicles there is a service bulliten that has to do with tapping the case behind the solonoid due to the metal of the case being too porous

    use a open end wrench to determine the diameter of the fitting and the use a tread depth gauge to find the size. example. m10x1.25. you can find a gauge for only a few dollars and they are great to have around

  • @RichpinTv
    @RichpinTv  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The shift solenoid i replaced was for a automatic i do not believe the standard has this. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    Loosen the clamp for the air duct at the throttle body.
    Remove the mounting bolt and nut for the air cleaner box.
    Pull the air cleaner box and throttle body up to access the throttle position sensor.
    Remove the throttle position sensor.

    Hi referred to your videos as very good reference for Saturn's. I own a 2006 ion 3. The 2.2 automatic. Cannot seem to find any videos on TH-cam about shift or control solenoid replacement. Trying to get the valve body cover off enough to switch the solenoid which has been done with just hand room. Not sure if my mechanic ignored the link I sent him from a forum where the guy did a repair himself this way but after two days he gave up. No my vehicles tore apart and like someone else told me the jobs almost done why give up. Like seeing the Finish Line in a race and deciding to lay down. Any advice would help. Hoping I hear back from someone knowledgeable in the Saturn forums

    You are awesome ! I have a 2002 neon auto. I was backing up and applied the rear brake, i heard a clunk and lost my reverse. I took it for a quick inspection and they told me i needed upper and lower engine mounts and a tranni mount. Do you think that would cause my neon to not go into reverse? The forward gears work. Again Thanks for posting these videos!

    Transmissions eh? My car, a Toyota Camry of the 1996 vintage has trouble going into the overdrive when cold when it never has before. What do you think could be wrong? When it's really cold out this is worse but when the engine can warm up fast it's okay. I know overdrives are not supposed to work until the engine is hot, but the engine never has had an issue getting into that top gear before.

    Nice job.I have a 2001 Grand caravan 3.3 L. My transmission defaults to 1st gear sometimes. I was told it was a Transmission control solenoid, or, a solenoid on the firewall (expensive). I was told when it heats up a circuit opens and defaults to 1st gear. When it cools down she runs fine. I was quoted 400.00, 320.00 for the part, 80.00 labor. I would prefer to fix it, but not sure which solenoid to replace. Which one do you think it might be based on the symptom? Thanks..

    great video. can a shift solenoid cause a no reverse on a 95 civic?

  • @Edwinb777
    @Edwinb777 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi richpin, when you replaced the shift solenoid did you had to perform the "Quick Learn Procedure" with a DRBIII scan tool in order for the car to work. I have the Repair Manual from Dodge and it says that that procedure is necessary when replacing the shift solenoid. I ask this question because I replaced the solenoid and the transmission is still stuck on 2nd. I have also replaced the oil and filter and also the input speed sensor and output speed sensor and still the transmission is stuck.

    Hi, it is a great video, I have a question. I have a 2001 neon and is not shifting to reverse and when is in neutral and press the pedal it goes. When in drive after driving a little starts shaking and have to move it to neutral and then again to drive. Could that be fixed replacing the solenoid? or it may need transmission replacement? In a 2001 neon is the same procedure as for a 2002? If someone have more videos of neons please let me know.Thanks

Now I'm going to change the Shift solenoid block assy. and hope this might fix it. I watch a lot of video's on it and it's simple enough. But the two hose's above the block look simple to remove to get then out of the way while your replacing the block why doesn't anyone remove them ? Thank you for your help.

    I hope you're still monitoring this video. I have a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country Limited, 4.0L that is having two issues. I need to replace the upstream oxygen sensor and the shift solenoid. I cannot find any videos showing how to do that on this model or any diagrams of location for either item. I'm a widow and unfortunately no extra money to pay to have this fixed. I'm usually pretty handy but I need a little guidance. I purchase the Chilton book but it doesn't show any pictures at the 4.0 so again no help.
