  • The Trangia Micro Cook set comes in two different versions. It comes with a gel burner or an alcohol burner, with a handle and without. I will also do a very brief comparison to the Trangia Mini set.

    Greetings from snowy Sweden, love the content! - thanks for the overview of the "Micro cook set" - it looks very interesting to me!
    Most Swedes rock some sort of Trangia solution as well at least for the alcohol based solutions, so they're quite popular here as well, just like our Hilleberg tents.
    I personally use a common trangia 27-35 UL/NS set for all of my more peaceful trips into the woods and when going fishing etc, usually for 1-3 day trips, it's a little less space-efficient but a very relaxing way to boil water and to cook with, however, when i go on longer week-long trails/trips, i usually bring my Jetboil Minimo as it saves space and is a very quick and reliable piece of quality kit.
    As a whole, I like the alcohol based solutions more for the tranquil cooking it provides while i can't wait to turn of the Jetboil each time i use it because of the noise, but as mentioned above, both solutions has their secured place on my gear-shelf.
    Have a great day!

      Hilleberg tents and Trangia: Two of the very best for outdoor gear. I agree. I use the Trangia in a more relaxed setting when Im camping in a large tent and cooking a big meal. If Im hiking for a few days and carrying everything in my pack, I will go smaller/lighter and use a little gas stove. Thanks for watching, and commenting, its very much appreciated.

    The Trangia mini for me, love frying up a cooked breakfast in it.

      Sunny? Im jealous. Its mid-winter here and temps are down to 12 - 14 Deg C. A cooked brekkie is just the thing at this time of the year. Thanks for watching, it is appreciated.

    Personally I have the mini. I can do much more with it. The alcohol gel , hand sanitizer does work. As does emptying old chafing burner tins. Hexamine blocks broken up are also good.
    On fuel economy, with a spirit burner. Adding up to 10% water will make the spirit go further, with little or no difference to the performance. Adding the water will also knock the sooting on the head. Making clean up a bit easier…..

    • @OAPAdventures
      @OAPAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with you about the Mini. It's far more versatile. The Micro is good for a cuppa or to heat water for a dehydrated meal, but not for cooking. Especially when you have an appetite like mine. I dilute with water, too. It works great. Thanks for watching.

    I have put a Wildo fold a cup inside my trangia micro, and it just fits and you can still get the lid on.
    Your tip on having the handle up when using it is good, I melted mine somewhat!
    I've only used mine for boiling water, making porridge/oatmeal, and for warming soup.

    EquipOutdoors has Trangia cookware. Last year I bought a couple of mess tins, burners, and triangle stand/windshields from them. The triangle stand folds flat and sits nicely inside the mess tin. Oh, and I got two fuel bottles - those things are never going to split, even if you drop them off a thirty metre cliff!
    I love the quietness of alcohol stoves. The Trangia system is very well thought out. Back in the '80s I had a stormcooker 25 set. It was great! My ex ended up with it, though.

      Hi, Yes I have purchased from them in the past. Their service is great. However, I found that they were limited in the range they carried. They were out of stock of the mini set and I asked when they would be getting more, the answer was 6 weeks to 4 months! Not their fault, I know. They order from the Aus distributor. I went direct and had it in 7 days. Thanks for watching.

    I have a Trangia 25 HA and love it. Recently I added a Duossal outer 1 L 27 pot to nest inside, just to increase the set. Fits fine, but kills the space for a kettle. Since I have an off-brand kettle [but HA] it's no big deal. I also have the off-brand remote butane burner that works OK for the set, too.
    Most of my adventures are not too far from my tailgate. 50 years ago I could sling a 70 lb Kelty with a Svea123 and BSA mess kit but not today.

    • @OAPAdventures
      @OAPAdventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have a HA 1l pot that I use if I need an extra. I think my kettle gets the most work of all. I do love a cuppa! Doesnt matter how far, or how long, its getting out there that is the most important thing. Keep it up. Thanks for watching.

    Trangia for me too for so many reasons. Bought my original duossal 25 back in the mid 1990's and just about to order the mini and micro cup to couple with a Bushline Designs Titanium Windshield from Pack Gear Go in Nelson- they need a windshield and this combo works good. As well as direct from Trangia, Varuste in Finland is another good source price wise.

    Lovely video handsomely showcasing TRANGIA innovation ,a company not known for prolific changes to a well trodden path of reliability . However I do wish they would trial a limited run of Titanium products in particular a burner with a sealable screw top , that would plug a massive hole in the market and scare the complacency from Evernew for not doing so already .

    • @OAPAdventures
      @OAPAdventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching, and the compliment. Both are appreciated. The titanium v aluminium debate is an interesting one. I have a 25 set in titanium that Trangia produced many years ago. I find very little weight difference, but prefer the aluminium. They seem spread and hold the heat better, which is my unscientific opinion based on usage. I have now upgraded all my pots to hard anodised aluminium if they are available, and find this to be close to perfect for me. I have seen a titanium burner as you described in use. Maybe it was overfilled? I dont know. The meths boiled out of the burner and tried to set the table on fire! That made for an interesting couple of minutes.

    I'm using stormcooker 27 from Japan.
    I really enjoy that except strong wind.
    alcohol stove is very weak so cooking take so manx time .
    How do you use the stormcooker in that condition?
    using windscreen around the storm cooker ?

      @OAPAdventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have both the 25 and the 27. They work well in any weather and wind using the pots and the kettle, but heat is lost when I use the fry pan. The only solution I have found was using a windshield around the cooker as you say. I will also use the gas adapter/burner if Im in a hurry. The alcohol is very slow. The micro is new. You can find it on the Trangia website. Thanks for watching.

      @@hirooka6335 The trick is to face the holes on the windscreen *into* the wind, so more oxygen goes in for combustion. It seems counter-intuitive, as it's a Windscreen, but that's how it works. Also the strength of the alcohol is key. In the US I use KleenStrip denatured alcohol which is almost pure alcohol. HEET [Yellow] is an automotive fuel line additive, which is pure methyl alcohol, and also burns very well, but don't use HEET [Red]. Isopropyl alcohol does not work well in Trangia burners. Too much water, maybe? Also leaves black soot.
      In the UK and Commonwealth countries they call the good fuel ''Meths'' but in US slang that means *Shiba* neh? So careful what you ask for. I do not know what is availble in Japan.

      Maybe you get a poor outcome depending on the kind of fuel you use. In any case, Trangia cookers are not made to hurry on boiling water for freeze-dried meals or whatever, but to cook real food. I enjoy taking my time cooking outside.
