Great video! Thanks!
Clearly, it's a stone housing for an ancient alien ship. Any common person can see that!
Looks a bit too similar to the wall on Easter Island and it also seems like Tonga is ancient highlands, only now islands since water level rose in the past 10-12k years
Very cool little review. Mine should arrive this week 😊
You wont regret it, it's a versatile little set. Thanks for watching.
Do you have Bourbon biscuits in New Zealand? Tamtams look a lot like them, I'm wondering if they're the same as the UK ones, a chocolate version of a custard cream. I didn't realise that black swans are invasive and edible! We have mute swans in Britain and they're owned by the crown, ie Charles, so I guess you'd be stealing from the king if you ate one! It looked a hearty meal. Hope you get your knee sorted soon.
No, we don't have Bourbon biscuits here, at least I haven't seen them. We have a Cameo Creme, which is very similar in terms of 2 x malt bikkies with a creme filling. I like a custard cream, or 2. Yep, the Black Swan is everywhere and is often hunted. I do remember seeing the white Swans when I was first in the UK and told they were the property of the Crown. Thanks for watching.
Nice, we stay at Catleys a lot, might have to give Wainora a go next time.
There were some restrictions because of winter and Catleys was closed, so I didn't have much choice. I do plan to try some of the other areas in future. Thanks for watching.
Amazing...I've never heard of swan stew. I'm thinking that there isn't a swan season here in Canada. I'm thinking that I have to look into one of them tents. A wonderful breakfast as well!!
There are a dozen or so game birds that are managed by Fish and Game with bag limits, seasons etc. Interestingly, the Canada Goose is no longer a game bird here and protections such as season, bag limits etc have all been removed.
@@OAPAdventures The Canadian geese are one messy bird and will soon take over any bit of waterway. In certain parts of Canada, they have become truly invasive!
@@wendingourway They have done the same here.
You could’ve called it “Black Swan Down” 🙃 but “misery camping” for the winning views. 🌧️ We lost a 56yr old cousin yesterday to cancer, so live YOUR best life now and all the best with your operation 👋
Love it. Outdoorsman Daves secret life of a copywriter. Yep, Im getting on and I realise if I dont do it now, Im unlikely to do it later.
Good to see you out and about again.
Thanks for stopping buy. Good to see you again.
Hi Mate, what type of knee surgery are you having? If its a total knee replacement, go for it. I am 64 and had both knees replaced about four years ago and haven't looked back. If it is a total replacement you will still be able to go camping and even backpacking. I waited for ages to make my mind up and suffered pain for about ten years before I had it done. Make sure you insist on a pain blocker after surgery. I had zero pain through the whole thing. Good luck anyway. Brad. PS: I wish we could hunt swans in OZ.
Yep, Im deffo having the op. Just waiting for it to be scheduled. Lifes too short to delay. Thanks for the encouragement and having a watch. Its much appreciated.
Really enjoyed the video. I love the term misery Camping. I really hope all goes will with the knee. Stay safe bud.
I wish I had coined the phrase misery camping. But I can't claim it. Thanks for watching... again!
Nice video
Cheers, Cam. Thanks.
OAP Adventures, you're on a roll with your videos
Thanks for saying so, and for watching. Much appreciated.
Its much wider than just the front
Hey. I am thinking of heading here with my son. Mind sharing where you parked for this and walked in on?
I drove up Moumoukai Hill Rd, from Ness Valley Rd, parked at the carpark by the locked gate and walked from there. The alternative is to park at the Upper Mangatawhiri Dam carpark and walk from that side. Check the map so you know the names of the tracks. They are well marked. The hut is not marked or signposted. Thanks for watching.
Haha that's so cool to see I'm not the only kiwi bloke with a furry pot cleaner. Evie my Lab always enjoys helping with the dishes. Trangia mini been in service now for a few years and its great.
Yep, we are lucky to have dogs. They are God's creatures. Thanks for watching.

Hello, your video is very good. Did you ever consider using the duosal line? I'm unsure between the two. I go hiking. but I saw that the overall difference is only 130g. Thanks
I have used the duosal in the past. Once I moved to HA I found that it solved all of the issues I had with the standard aluminium and have not needed to change. I will accept that in the bigger size the duosal does manage the heat a little better, but not enough for me to need to change from HA. Im very happy with the 27 set in HA, but will add a 25 in duosal at some point. Thanks for watching.
I helped build this hut back when i was an apprentice. Think it was around 2003/2004 when we built it
You did a great job. Its one of the nicest huts that Ive been to. Thanks for watching.
Hi Pete, thanks for the video. Can I ask what kind of lantern you were using in this video? Would you have a brand or a link you could share by any chance? Thanks again for your filming - keep up the great content!
I have had them for over 20 years. The brand is UCO and they are their Candle Lanterns. If you're in NZ try: www.gearshop.co.nz/products/uco-original-candle-lantern. Thanks for watching.
@@OAPAdventures Thanks very much, appreciate the link. 👍👍
dont you do business videos on the tube
Yes, I do.
@@OAPAdventures very nice I've seen a few of them
Good on you. Nothing wrong with a bit of bush bashing 😀 providing you don't get bushed of course. I live local and haven't heard of this one. DB Hut. Nice one.
I should have read the map a little better, rather than just follow the GPS. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the recipe idea mate, looks bloody good. I also think the pot grippers are fine, but I reckon the "wind shield" is rubbish so it's long gone. Instead I have wee titanium twig stove as a wind shield. Love Trangia stuff though. I started by buying a cheep knock-off but the real deal is so much better.
I agree about the wind sheild, or lack of one. Its OK indoors, but thats it. I carry a small windshield for outside. Thanks for watching.
OK video. Awful music.
What does the base of the saucepans look like? Are they also milled like the fry pan? Seems to me that the milled surface will attract soot deposit. What is your experience with this?
I havent had any issue with soot etc, but I dilute the meths by 10% and this seems to work OK. The sauce pans are the same as the 25 set, so no problems them either. Thanks for watching.
@@OAPAdventures Thank you. I am interested to know if the bottom of the sauce pans are smooth or milled, rather than the sootiness of the pot. You mentioned that they were like the 25 kit. It was my understanding that all Tundra bases are milled, so they won’t slide off the burner.
@@denisehorton8468 The fry pan in the Tundra set is milled and sits well with no slippage. The sauce pans (and the fry pans in the 25 & 27 sets) are smooth bottomed.
@@OAPAdventures Are the sauce pans in your Tundra 3 kit milled bases, or are they smooth? JUST ASLING ABOUT THE SAUCEPANS.
ASKING
Thanks for the good video. I just ordered the micro light version with a gel burner. We also have Trangia 35 with all accessories and gas burner. It is for family use. 35 is the same as 25, but it is black. I have used the Esbit stove mod the most, which uses a Trangia alcohol burner and a gas burner. In addition, it can also burn wood. Maybe I'll get a Trangia multi fuel burner someday. We have quite a lot of Trangia products, but the 27 model is still missing and the multi fuel burner. 😄 In Finland, even the army uses Trangia. A hundred year old invention and it still works. That's quite an achievement.
Thats great. I also have both the 25 and 27 and they work well depending on how much food I need to cook. Thanks for watching, its appreciated.
Keep it up mate👍
Cheers for the encouragement, and thanks for watching. Its appreciated.
Food looks really tasty. Thanks for great video 👍
Tastes as good as it looks! Thanks for watching, its much appreciated.
There is also a wall like this at Ball's Clearings on the Taihape road from Fernhill
Aliens lol I mean the fact that the local iwi stopped it from being properly investigated tells you all you need to know.
Hello from sunny wales The Trangia mini for me, love frying up a cooked breakfast in it.
Sunny? Im jealous. Its mid-winter here and temps are down to 12 - 14 Deg C. A cooked brekkie is just the thing at this time of the year. Thanks for watching, it is appreciated.
Have you done any of the tunnels in the hunua ranges
No, I havent. I didnt know there was any. I been to the old mine, but access is pretty difficult. If you know more about the locations, GPS cords etc, I'd love to find out more.
@@OAPAdventures I have it marked on a old map will try and dig it out. Didn't know about the mine where is that
@@seanjarvie9737 I know there are tunnels dug that the watercare pipes went through, but I thought they were backfilled after the pipes were installed. The manganese mine was at the end of Mine Rd. There was another off Ernie's Track, but I never did find it.
What is the cooker that you are using
It's a Trangia 27 cookset, made in Sweden. Plenty info on line. You'll see me using it in some of my other camping videos. Thanks for watching.
😉 Super vidéo, Good Job !!!
Thanks. How the French and English language was mixed to produce the words we use today is rather fascinating, especially as I am on the other side of the world. Thanks for watching.
interested to know your pack weights for a 2 or 3 night trip with tent
I dont weigh my gear, so its a guess. Going from manufacturers specs, the pack, sleep pad, quilt and tent add up to around 5 kg. With all the other stuff, clothes, food, filter, billy, stove etc, I would think around 11 kg. The biggest variance for me is the amount of food I take. I have found that with a good pack harness a couple of kg's either way doesnt seem to make much difference for me.
Can we set up tent up there? Thanks
Yes, there is a little room around the hut for tents, always depending on the size of the tent. It has been cut up a bit by the 4wd vehicles, but there is space. Thanks for watching.
@@OAPAdventures thank you very much
Check out 35andRetired* videos on his trangia gear. Some thoughtful and interesting conclusions on them from his engineering perspective and multi year use.
I think the most under appreciated part of this video that deserves pointing out and some respect is that you walked all those mud pits and streams TWICE to set your camera up!
You are not wrong. I do mange a few more K's than normal to do the setups. But, who doesnt like stomping through mud? Thanks for watching.
I love your tent I’m looking very into one here in Brisbane
Its a great tent. You wont regret it. Thanks for watching.
Nice to see you out and about. Looks like a great spot to camp. Hope your knee heals soon. Thanks for sharing this adventure.
Its good to be out. Thanks for the good wishes.
Thanks for showing this, I just ordered 1 from Amazon.
Its a nice set. You wont regret the Trangia quality. Thanks for watching.
Personally I have the mini. I can do much more with it. The alcohol gel , hand sanitizer does work. As does emptying old chafing burner tins. Hexamine blocks broken up are also good. On fuel economy, with a spirit burner. Adding up to 10% water will make the spirit go further, with little or no difference to the performance. Adding the water will also knock the sooting on the head. Making clean up a bit easier…..
I agree with you about the Mini. It's far more versatile. The Micro is good for a cuppa or to heat water for a dehydrated meal, but not for cooking. Especially when you have an appetite like mine. I dilute with water, too. It works great. Thanks for watching.
I have the pronto 4, excellent tent, especially in bad weather. Came here to see the trangia in action. Stew looks awesome. New Subscriber 😊
I think the Pronto is perfect for me. Yes, I am a big Trangia fan, and I enjoy a good stew. You'll see I use Trangias in lots of my videos. Thanks for the watch, and the sub. Its much appreciated.
Thank you mightily for as we know with Mayan and other Indigenous cultures there truly was great beings who guided us Not only in the past present but shall do in our challenges of our future as well Have recently got hooked upon Paul Wallis podcast series and can now see with an amazing awakening that the Christian biblical studies were from Tribes of worship of spiritual but also Intergalactic beings Am feeling so enlightened by this new and well researched idealism I highly recommend to watch Paul Wallis Envasions of Eden and also his other series Eden book series And also this is why our Western Christian upbringing are trying to hide from this let alone our global governments ✨🌏😇💖🧐
How would you rate it against the Trangia Mini?
They are 2 very different products. Mini is a full cook set, Triangle is the burner and stand only, so will need pots, pans etc. It would depend on what you wanted to use them for, and what gear you currently have. I use them both, but in different situations. Thanks for watching.
Looks good! How do you normally carry food when you hike? Do you normally freeze meat and then let it defrost? Do you carry ice packs with your food to keep it cool?
No ice pack. Yes, sometimes I freeze and let it thaw and other times I will just pack it in the middle of the pack so its out of the heat. It was only 25 Deg C on this trip, so no real need to worry it spoiling during the walk. Thanks for watching.
The roots cracked it, growing behind.
