Although I am a S flyer person, some of the marx cars and accessories intrigue me. Their s gauge pre-postwar cars and a few accesories ( metal light towers and some stations ) are found on many layouts. I find that I must contiually defend my interest in Marx trains. I suspect that Marx was the entry level stuff for all of us prior to moving up and for this reason is snubbed . I am still fascinated by the variety of things they made and some things are adaptable. I’m biased to Marx for sentimental reasons because that’s all my Dad’s parents could afford in small town Iowa in 30’s-40’s. In 1940 he was 7 yrs old and his only Christmas present was a single Marx car. That’s it! His first train set was a Marx given to him by his brother just before he shipped off to WWII in 1942. Marx was the toy train for the lower to middle class America and was built to be played with by kids. As you alluded to about Marx being snubbed. Just look at all the big TH-cam O Gauge Train channels who collect $1000s of dollars in Lionel, MTH etc, but don’t seem to have a single Marx train in their collection. Maybe in time model railroaders, magazines and clubs will start seeing from a historical perspective the tremendous positive impact Marx had on the toy/model train industry.
I don’t think there is much of a difference in size with Marx O-gauge accessories than S. Thanks for watching and responding.

I have a small collection of Marx trains and accessories. I mix some of these accessories on the Lionel layout. I enjoy the accessories made from metal, since they are a bit more durable.

    • @markstrainstation
      @markstrainstation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree. I inherited my Dad’s Marx train and a few accessories 6 years ago, but started buying Lionel and MTH. I don’t think the new trains will still be running out of the box 80 years from now like Marx can

@@markstrainstation I agree with you on this one. I have an associate who owns a train shop and repairs just about any make train. He has a vast inventory of Marx trains and sets. The current Lionel trains are manufactured in China and he tells me replacement parts can be difficult to obtain. I normally take care of my own repairs but what I don't have tooling or patience to do I send out.

What is the correct bulb for the Marx 072 gooseneck lamp post?
    Is it the 526W?

Paste this into EBay and you will find it. “Lionel Marx Train 526 White Street Lamp Post E10 Light Bulb 18v Round 18 Volt”

Thank you so much for your answer.
My 072 lampposts are from the late 1950's and only now are the bulbs beginning to blow out.
Probably because they were only used at Christmas. LOL
P.S. These lampposts were given to my father from my uncle Louie.
Uncle Louie was an elevator operator at the Toy Center in New York City.
When the salespeople were getting new samples, they would give the old samples to people who worked at the Toy Center.
My lampposts came right from the Marx showroom!
P.P.S. Both my father and uncle Louie are gone now.
Once again, thank you for your answer.

Good story to tell. My Marx lamp posts and other Marx trains accessories were divided up among my 3 brothers after my Dad passed away few years back. I have since replaced the light bulbs.

If anyone is interested, the Toy Center building (at 200 Fifth Avenue, N.Y.C.) is still standing.
It no longer houses showrooms for toy manufacturers.
      It's now an apartment building.
      Oh, well!

Marx Trains are OK, when the bubble busted all others tanked, but the Marx market seen a increase in value, some Marx pieces command a high price now.
