I think there were exceptions. I have my father’s it has flat rivet front and 3 point pick up. He wasn’t a train guy and never swapped motor and he got it for Xmas before the war.
Sorry, but your info is very incorrect. Open spoke was designed in1941, sold for Christmas season 1942. Closed spoke was first Postwar version, one year only, followed by plain with rivets (many of which had 10 spoke pre-war style drives), and lastly the double bar with rivets. There are other minor variations as well, but these are the 4 main distinct variations. Only one is pre-war, and none in the 30's.
In 1942 this nation was deeply involved in war.the only trains available were leftover stock from 1941.At that time the toys at Christmas were made from wood or cardstock. As I stated anything else was carryover from 1941.My Christmas toys were made from heavy cardstock and required that we punch out the toy and assemble according to instructions. At the end of the war Lionel quickly put together one set which sold out the day it went on shelves.
An accurate comment about the Marx Logo version would be welcome. I don't consider the logo location a "minor" variation and one has to wonder what the rational for the new placement was?
Yeah AND its NOT 3 point contact either as stated. its 2 point contact to a to 2 contactors on one design and 2 point contact to a single strip on the other one. And as you said They are Not from the Thirties !n
Hi David, this is still my favorite video
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy the video.😁
There is also a variation around 1970 with a double reduction motor and the marx logo was moved from the boiler to the cab.
