The fishfingers and custard reference sounded like it calling to Moffat himself as a writer, given the line before was about The Doctor coming back and visiting every so often. With those two lines, Moffat essentially confirmed he will be coming back as a writer as he was in Series 1-4.
should clarify that we don't know if mundy is the new companion next season, they just share an actor. same thing happened with martha in the series 2 finale
I personally think the episode was basically Steven Moffat copying his own work. It felt almost like a calque of Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead. The idea of consciousness still lingering after death was already explored in that story, and the entire vibe felt way too similar even down to the premise of "invisible" enemies (even though this one had a much different resolution). When Canto was killed while Mundy was still talking to him and his posthumous hologram answered saying the same sentence multiple times I literally felt like watching a Silence in the Library clone. The episode is certainly very good, but the fact that it relies too much on something we've already seen didn't really sit well with me personally. That said, the episode was extremely well acted, Ncuti Gatwa in particular gave a spectacular performance which was rendered even more outstanding by the fact that he couldn't even move. The expression of panic and sorrow when Ruby was shot was some of the best acting I've ever seen, it felt very real as I personally know well what panic feels like. I want to add that the Doctor talking to the unconscious (dead?) Ruby also reminded me of his monologues in Heaven Sent where in his mind he imagined he was talking to Clara who was, in fact, dead.
thank you! I feel people were really hungry for Doctor Who for quite some time so some started to consider this ep as an instant classics. It was pretty good, but definitely not as good as people claim it to be
I wouldn't say best of all time, but I think it's a definite top 10 contender at the very least. Not as good as Midnight, Heaven Sent, Family of Blood... but probably an 8.5 or 9/10 episode.
I wonder how that will work I was thinking it would be a bit weird for her to abandon Splice and just run off with The Doctor, so could be for the best
Best? Nahhh. Standalone? Nope. A good episode? It's fairly decent. To me it felt like Moffat on autopilot, and I like Moffat but a lot of the banter between Ruby and 15 felt like 12 and Clara?
Definitely might be a bit biased due to just watching but there's no doubt this episode is great and one of the best we've had in along time
TBH, dedicating a whole episode to someone standing on a landmine… is just crazy intense.

It’s not even been out for 2 hours 😭🙏
Nice change of style from the "fluffier" first two episodes. Nothing wrong with fluffy, but now and again is better than all the time!
I was really not liking chuti after ruby road but after this episode i think hes really nailing it.

i agree.
i think it's easily top 10 for the past five-six years tho.
@@Zestieee top 3 for best first 3 episodes for Doctor Who

how do you know it's the future companion?
i loved the episode best of the season so far. my mum on the other hand said it was the most boring doctor who episode ever
Rtd said on Instagram that varada is playing a different character as companion
I wonder how that will work

It's a great episode, but I can't say it's better than Blink.
Shame, a little hit of good writing in a trash show
Wanna watch but are there spoilers?
