RTD is becoming like Nathan-Turner, all ego. He didn't care when fans who were wheelchair users said to him "No, you have *utterly* misunderstood what disability discrimination actually is here", he just doubled down rather than admit he dropped a bollock. Davros was an incredibly formidable opponent, whose disability did not hinder him nor define him. A person doesn't have to be a good guy to be a positive portrayal.

Most patronising bullsh*t ever. Davros was never a wheelchair user for me. He was half man have dalek. He effectively built his casing as a prototype. RTD is being a real hypocrite here and creating issues that never existed. Regardless of this being in a wheelchair should have no baring of whether someone is good or bad. Any people from any background can be either. I never made the connection that he's now suggesting. Possibly the worst example of wokery I've seen on Who and there's been many. Anyway, as RTD has made very clear, he's not writing me the likes of me (inclusive?). Let's see if it proves to be a good decision or not...

For me it's all about character design and such an iconic silhouette that it feels wrong to change him to a generic guy, him looking the way he does creates a striking presence that I feel won't have the same effect without the chair and scarring

RTD apparently claims to have an issue with Davros being in the chair. So..now he runs the show he can change that, yet, back in 2008, he had absolutely no issue with Davros being in the chair in Journeys End so I'm not sure what exactly caused this but the change is awful in my opinion because Davros' whole character is he made the Daleks and he's half Dalek pretty much, he's also old and feeble yet so powerful still and now he just kinda looks like some guy

@@jamestorrie6550 that's a good point, sorry if I came off as a bit overworked about it, I forgot to consider if he had a problem with it back then and couldn't change it he could have just refused to use Davros and left it with The Daleks, and in terms of mentioning of having an issue with Davros being in a sort of wheelchair type device he didn't stop them from using wheelchair villains in Rise of The Cybermen and Voyage Of The Damned, but as you mentioned it's possible he did change his mind, I just don't see why he would go so far to physically alter Davros specifically since his design is part of the thing that makes Davros what he is

@@jamestorrie6550 He approved adding stiches to Davros' eye sockets & his script had Davros' tunic open to reveal his mutilated ribcage, harvested to grow new Daleks, he also created Lumic & Max Capricorn. The Man's a massive hypocrite.

Davies is obviously off his rocker, which helps if you work in the media/BBC.
Nice of him to clearly denote the physical characteristics that he does think are associated with evil...

Davros was in a life support system it wasn't a wheelchair he incorporated his one eye and life support design into his creations he was obsessed with, but Davros can use a disguise to hide behind so that humanoid Davros could be an android which he controls behind the scenes, Davies lost the plot of devising good character development and storytelling by being unimaginable.

It’s not a wheelchair, it’s LIFE SUPPORT. If he isn’t connected to it, he might as well be canonically dead!

I respectfully disagree, Doctor Who didn't ruin Davros (well, Destiny of the Daleks might be an exception to the norm). And what Moffat did with him is still one of the best cameos of the character to date because he understood the roots of the character.
The dilemma of saving him as a young boy led to a moral paradox that set up the Doctor for a match of wits, as saving him would be wrong in the future and killing him would break his code and grant Davros his ultimate victory over the Doctor (in a way, it elevates the stakes from Genesis while referencing it). You trivialized the story a little because it wasn't just about the Doctor creating Davros or not. Davros felt safer than ever with that win-win outcome and that plan almost worked because it had more layers to it (the Hybrid), so it always felt like one illusion after the next with Davros seemingly at the helm for once. Sure, the story touched on a lot of typical Davros clichés but that was the most cunning Davros we've had in a good while and it was Julian Bleach at his finest imo. I also loved Revelation of the Daleks because you get to witness how twisted Davros' morals had become in regards to Dalek supremacy, and that felt like the best upgrade to the character since Genesis.
I agree the character needs a fresh overhaul but, with this newer iteration from RTD, all we got was a pre-Genesis counterpart that is no longer the same evil mastermind that grew in knowledge to fight the Doctor but a mere satire of Davros (we've all seen the Genesis stuff and Russell already made drastic changes to the character and the Kaleds, as if we're seeing completely different characters). The context of the change given by Russell is also plain wrong, as he plans to use the new iteration full-time (due to the concerns over disability being associated with evil... which is ridiculous on its own because, if that's the case, then he's completely okay with evil balding stereotypes too). This also removes the human aspect from disabled people far more than it humanizes them. So, the concern is not just the scarring, there's a lot more to it.
I'm actually fine with a pre-Genesis Davros and I wanted that for the longest time but let's not forget that this version (albeit unknown to us) was fairly bounded by the events of the war on Skaro and the creation of the Daleks, so you just created a smaller box for the character. Sure, you can make a lot of new stuff with it, but if there's nothing more to do with the previous iteration, then you will hit the roadblock with this one sooner than you think.
Pre-Genesis Davros is a good idea for a couple of outings about the accident and the turn of the war, but for a household appearance, I think it's pushing the envelope more than it needs to.

I don't think people would have a problem with that. But unless I am very much misunderstanding Davies, he's rewritten the character to be what we now see, a fairly regular if somewhat cadaverous looking man.
