Bowser's very beginner friendly with how large of a window you have for attacks, along with the fact that a lot of the times you don't even need to ever do smash attacks to kill, at all.
yeah, i agree. also, since one of bowser's main weaknesses is the huge endlag in most of his moves, he teaches players to not just throw moves haphazardly, and be more thoughtful about what moves you use
Bowser's moves are relatively straightforward and easy to execute making him accessible to players of various skill levels. I have yet to play some Bowser more but man being one of the heaviest characters in the game and having ridiculous good speed makes him a threat and fun to use at the same time
As a fan of the Mario series and competitive smash it Feels good to finally have alot of Mario characters be viable at high level in Ultimate, especially Bowser
@paulakroy2635 nope. Doc has been a consistent bottom 3 Character since release. And even to this day with the first official tier list he's still bottom 5.
Good range, pretty decent mobility, super scary mix ups/pressure, can kill with basic tools (which means a lot), superb out of shield option, decently safe, hits like a truck AND weights like one Honesty I'm surprised he's not far above his actual tier
the issue is that tiers are determined by top players, and at top level play advantage state is so clean that bowser's disadvantage state, even when played well, can't keep up. It's great to have an amazing advantage but it doesn't matter if losing neutral once or twice means death. Kazuya is the exception since he has his own 0 to deaths and can kill from any % with ewgf.
Doesn't help that his disadvantage can range from bad to top 10 worst disadvantages thanks to his horrendous tech/getup rolls which many of the cast can abuse him for.
Top players are cool and experinced enough to know Bowser struggles to get a good hold if you out patience him. Bowser is either a punisher or the one being punished. There Is almost no in between. I say he is a solid mid tier, maybe even a lower high tier if we are being generous. His main issue is his huge hurtbox and disadvantage state. A decent luigi can easily kill him within a few seconds of pulling out the vaccum grab.
His disadvantage is just really bad he’s more susceptible to tech chase situations since his tech roll goes literally nowhere and his recovery is so linear most characters can contest it
Its not that they face an uphill battle. Its just that people who gravitate to heavies generally are worse at the overall game of smash. They gravitate to the characters that have physical advantages and are easier to get kills with. And so the road to competitive pro level is generally easier and doesnt take the same degree of lab-ing, drilling and creativity that other characters take, so they miss out in the long run. A heavy main doesn't develop the same due to their strengths that can tend to bail them out of situations. When that happens over a long period of time it can create blindspots and missed opportunities for growth at the overall game. The strengths of the heavy turns into their weakness, the higher up in comp they get. They get to pro level and everyone else there has generally had a much more rigorous climb to the top. A few mistakes can mean a stock, where as outside of pros a few mistakes from the opponent would generally mean a win for the heavy.
@@lokks2130 Hes not high tier imo. On a lower competitive level I agree but if were talking top level and top potential hes not High Tier. Maybe High Mid Tier
As a Bowser main, one of the best aspects of his kit is his variety amongst his many options. No matter what, I feel that any matchup is winnable(except a good Kazuya because the tough guy effect is eviscerated by 10 hit combo)
Man, his biggest buff from smash 4 and previous entries was his 3 frame jumpsquat. It has allowed Bowser to reactively stuff out aerial approaches with F-air. It has done wonders to this character.
I mained Bowser back in 4, and once I unlocked him in Ultimate he became my go-to pick for unlocking the other characters (this was before the patch that lowered the difficulty of Challenger's Approach btw). While my current main is Sephiroth, I should go back to Bowser sometime since he's everything I look for in a character: He moves fast and jumps high despite being a heavyweight, hits hard, has small but easy to perform combos, and is a villain. From my experience, his only drawbacks are his size which makes him easy to combo off of and his recovery can leave him open for punishment. The benefits he has easily outweighs the negatives.
7:30 Error. K. Rool is slow in the ground and the air. It LOOKS fast due to going in 4 limbs, but he's slower than LINK and Min-Min. That's why he's low tier, because he can't approach properly and he's not a good zoner either due to start-up and lack of follow-ups.
Bowser is my secondary and I love him. Compared to other heavies, he feels like the fastest one. In all regards. Like the guy was tired of getting bullied and went to the gym and finally did legs and cardio instead of just powerlifting. DK feels like the heavy with the best range as if he was a sword character, KKR the one with the best ranged game samus style, Ganondorf is the one that has the best strength and DDD has the best recovery. Or at least that's what they are supposed to have.
He's my favorite character to play as a casual player. He's straightforward, moves well, and has a lot of options. I also dont utilize grabs frequently, so the side B is very useful for me
Bowsers the character you whip out at a friends after you notice consistent habits that they have, use bowser to overpower and uberpunish mistakes, and win. I play bowser and puff in ultimate and melee. Puff moreso in melee and bowser moreso in ultimate. Its a fun character combination
Funny, because I have a friend who does exact opposite and picks bowser when he is losing only to lose with him because all he does is try to grab with sideSpecial. Its hillarious because when he eventually does it, I am k rool who survives on 200% for some reason.
I play Puff and Bowser as well And you're right since both characters punish like crazy All I have to do is shield because casual players don't grab, then spam up oos or sidestep rest
Bowser has been so good in the past two games, he's actually got multiple options in contrast to every other Large Heavyweight in Smash. My favourite change he's gotten this game is the Bowser Bomb spike which is such a guilty of pleasure.
You picked the absolutely correct boss theme for this episode. Final Bowser in Paper Mario (King of the Koopas is the official name, I think?) just goes SO FUCKING HARD and I LOVE IT.
Finally, a vid on my boy! Yeah, as much as he struggles against the top tiers, I'll never stop loving Bowser. I'm so glad Ultimate decided to answer the question, "what if a heavy was good"
While not one of my mains, I sometimes play Bowser just for the fun of it. He is such a fun heavy weight and you really do feel powerful when you play as him, crushing opponents when their at way lower percent than you. I'm glad he's left his sad Meele days behind him, when he was more or less just a glorified punching bag. Not fitting for one of, if not the, most iconic video game boss of all time.
Everyone? Damn i never saw bowser that popular, he is my main though but he's been my main since previous smash Bros even since Melee, I didn't choose to main him in ultimate because he's good, I just like Bowser lol
Items, it's cuz I'm vaguely aware that a LOT of characters get touch of death combos if they have an item in hand. Stage hazards are just cuz it's a pain in the ass to turn them on and off instead of being a toggle, or something you could assign by stage. There's a couple stages with hazards that would be preferable with them, but because it's a pain to back out of menus to toggle the option, overall it's better to play with them off. That said There's a couple things that are good. DK Falls with only starman, spawning at low frequency is a good one. DK falls usually sucks because the rock invites camping, but starmen are very unlikely to spawn there, and much more likely to spawn on the stage proper, making an interesting experience that encourages stage control and aggressive play more than Ultimate usually does. I'm sure there's other good exceptions.
Easy and digestible kit to understand at a basic level but has depth at a higher point as well, also the fact he’s one of smash’s most iconic characters, far more known from smash than fzero lmao.
I actually like the heavy battles. It's fun as you can juggle more against them and they stay longer. Yes, heavies can get out of air combos if it isn't a true combo string. But it depends still. But still fun. Heavy fights!!
They fixed Bowser starting with Smash 4. He was given faster moves and mobility, as well as given some more range thanks him standing upright instead of hunched over.
The pressure part your explaining I fully agree. Bowser is insane in smash ultimate they way he comes at you full power and speed even just by walking is terrifying just a few hits like 3 or even 2 you're doomed the best super heavyweight of the game if you ask me
Bowser has the best overall mobility of superheavies. Boy I wish my boy Piranha Plant had 3 more units of weight so he could be considered a superheavy. Then he would have the third best mobility of all superheavies, behind DK and Bowser.
Basically the same reason for why everyone plays him as Aatrox. The weaknesses of his class aren't that bad on him, while he still has many strengths that his class shares.
Bowser's unique combination of skills devalue his opponent's Shield options. Between Bowser Bomb, Firebreath, Flying Slam and Whirling Fortress, shielding Bowser is usually a bad plan. It's like playing Rock Paper Scissors - but if you play Paper, you lose. That said, evading, spot dodges and rolls tend to be more effective than average against him. He is one of the only characters in Smash that actively dictates which defenses to use.
True, but he’s much better casually offline (against people who rarely play, ffa’s, doubles). He’s also not bad online if the connection isn’t complete trash
I think you overstate how many times bowser can lose neutral. He’s absolute combo food, almost as bad as DK. You can often true combo him to 50, and one extension can get you to 80 or 90. At that point you have confirms, even on Bowser’s weight. And his advantage state, while good, is lacking compared to most rushdown chars. Although I do agree that in neutral, he’s the scariest of all the heavies
In boss battles for most video games, killing the boss requires dealing a lot more damage than you'd be otherwise used to having to dish out. Not only that, but getting hit once can set you back dramatically. In smash, Bowser is the definition of a boss battle.
I move your videos but I really don't understand how you choose between "everyone" or "no one" when you pick a title haha Everyone plays Bowser but no one plays joker? Ok then
Doesn't Bowser also have some invuln (like Palutena's buckler attacks, blocking enemy moves) on Up Smash shell and for some ungodly reason FSmash soles?
Because if you're not threatening to take their last stock with kamikaze grabs and putting the fear of god into your terrified opponent, then you're doing it wrong.
I don't have the time I used to, but back when I used to play Ultimate Bowser was up there as one of my most favorite characters to play as. More boss characters *should* feel intimidating to play against, and Bowser felt like taking on a wrecking ball.
Here’s a lore accurate buff for Bowser that solves the problem of him being combo food (see Bowser’s Inside Story). If Bowser has been in hitstun or unable to act for the last 7 seconds (excluding being put to sleep or in Shield-break stun) he gains the Fury buff for the next 20 seconds Fury: buff categorized by turning red and smoke blasting out of his nose, upon activation Bowser immediately emits a repulse of fire around him and falls straight to the ground (unpreventable). While Fury is active he takes reduced hitstun by 50%, takes 1.5 times extra damage, all moves are 33% faster and deal 1.25x additional damage and hitstun, flame breath now lasts 50% longer, (and now for the casual players) gain instant defeat immunity (just stuff like Hero’s thwack, Zelda’s final smash, and the Scythe item).
Bowser is a really fun and beginner friendly character, Bowser has been my main in Brawl through to Ultimate, I specifically got Brawl because I could play as him He is very beginner friendly as well and simple so I also play some other characters that are more complex like Sephiroth
I kinda agree. They are both scary for similar reasons with their side b command grabs making you never feel safe, incin's is just even more terrifying, especially having a counter power-up for it.
i agree with bowser up b being one of the best O.O.S. options, what would you say the other top 3 are? i think gnw up b for sure obviously but unsure about the third. maybe cloud up b? mario or gnw up smash?
Almost every Bowser I’ve fought in Locals with my Samus was either unbeatable or I only beat them by the most narrow of margins. Last win was possibly a suicidal offstage charge shot, last stock high percent damage on both sides. The Bowser might’ve seen me burn my 2nd jump and knew the recoil of charge shot would spell my doom but I panic mashed the b button right after fully charging and fired! Killing the bowser while still dangerously far offstage, potentially without a way back. I’m sure he would’ve won if he shielded. I wasn’t going to survive any more of his ledge pressure.
tbh he's the only heavy that feels good to fight. It's just honest gameplay. I'll never rage against a good Bowser and I'll even rematch them when they stomp me.
I’ve always been a double main of Pikachu and Bowser. In every other smash title pikachu was my better character but that drastically changed in ultimate
it sounds like bowser is a good character for learning the fundamentals of a heavy character. Which is funny because mario is a very balanced character and great for learning smash fundamentals. So you have mario and bowser being 2great characters for learning and getting into competative.
Bowser is a beast, Sakurai really improved him from Melee where he was the worst character although i started maining him from Melee all the way towards Ultimate. i love alot about him like his movement, his New tough guy Mechanic, that he can kill when ur at a low percentage and that he is the heaviest in this masterpiece of a game but i wasn’t inspired by Bowser through video games, 4 words Super Mario Super Show
I definitely think Kazuya’s pressure is better than Bowser’s. Kazuya has an intangible dash approach option, and EWGF comes out quickly and means either death or taking 70% if you get hit by it at any percent. You can’t mess up when playing neutral against Kazuya, but you CAN mess up when playing neutral against Bowser as long as you aren’t above 120% damage where back air, up air, or side special will take your stock. Don’t get me wrong, messing up in neutral against Bowser is still bad (maybe you’ll take 30% from an up throw to up air combo or 15-20% from another single move), but when Kazuya can just take your stock from his low-startup-frame combo starter that leads into high damage or a kill at any percent, I just can’t agree that Bowser’s pressure is higher.
7:29 "K. Rool. Fast on the ground" No... he is not fast on the ground... At best he has is a somewhat quick Intial Dash and that's it. His Run Speed is slow & Walk Speed is much worse there.
Bowser's very beginner friendly with how large of a window you have for attacks, along with the fact that a lot of the times you don't even need to ever do smash attacks to kill, at all.

Here’s a lore accurate buff for Bowser that solves the problem of him being combo food (see Bowser’s Inside Story). If Bowser has been in hitstun or unable to act for the last 7 seconds (excluding being put to sleep or in Shield-break stun) he gains the Fury buff for the next 20 seconds
Fury: buff categorized by turning red and smoke blasting out of his nose, upon activation Bowser immediately emits a repulse of fire around him and falls straight to the ground (unpreventable).
So basically smash 4 rage
Honestly that’s not a bad idea for him
Bowser is a really fun and beginner friendly character,
Bowser has been my main in Brawl through to Ultimate,
I specifically got Brawl because I could play as him
He is very beginner friendly as well and simple so I also play some other characters that are more complex like Sephiroth
I would love for you to do a video on why no one plays Ice climbers, I think it would be nice to have a breakdown of such a complex character
Everyone!? I don’t see him often
I still can't ever wrap my head around the Bowser matchup
Bowser is really scary, but the best heavy for scaring people is incineroar. That's his whole shtick.
I kinda agree. They are both scary for similar reasons with their side b command grabs making you never feel safe, incin's is just even more terrifying, especially having a counter power-up for it.
I would love to see a video talking about King K Rool.
Can someone say what music is playing in the video? Thank you :3
i agree with bowser up b being one of the best O.O.S. options, what would you say the other top 3 are? i think gnw up b for sure obviously but unsure about the third. maybe cloud up b? mario or gnw up smash?
Best heavy tilt attacks and best heavy up special is all it is.
I love using bowser on smash. The more I play him, the more experience I get using him. That grab and drop is deadly in my opinion
I’ve always been a double main of Pikachu and Bowser. In every other smash title pikachu was my better character but that drastically changed in ultimate
I would love to see a video on K. Rool next. All my friends always flame me cause they think hes op 😅
I wonder how much bowser would jump on the tier list if he had perma super armor at all times
The koopalings have taken over the mushroom kingdom
Please make the best out of shield options video
it sounds like bowser is a good character for learning the fundamentals of a heavy character. Which is funny because mario is a very balanced character and great for learning smash fundamentals. So you have mario and bowser being 2great characters for learning and getting into competative.
Because he's the easiest character in the game.
That's why I main Bowser
Mario bros and Peach going Daffy Duck mode.
Atleast Mario minions and rivals join in a brawl fun.
クッパはすごいね。
Wario next, idk in which side of rhe spectrum he relies on but i would like to see your input on the subject
Bowser is a beast, Sakurai really improved him from Melee where he was the worst character although i started maining him from Melee all the way towards Ultimate. i love alot about him like his movement, his New tough guy Mechanic, that he can kill when ur at a low percentage and that he is the heaviest in this masterpiece of a game but i wasn’t inspired by Bowser through video games, 4 words Super Mario Super Show
so that they can spam side b silly, no need to watch the video
Just a suggestion but a video about the traditional fgc characters would be pretty neat

"K. Rool. Fast on the ground"
No... he is not fast on the ground...
At best he has is a somewhat quick Intial Dash and that's it.
His Run Speed is slow & Walk Speed is much worse there.
