The most on point, concise and well produced videos in the whole collecting community. And the dioramas are perfect.

A few years ago I pulled the trigger and bought C-3PO and R2D2 on Amazon. They came carded on Vintage cards and I didn’t have the heart to take them out. So this is welcome. Love your channel too!

It would be cool since we’re getting a completely new mold for r2 that we get droids like R4-P17(Obi Wan’s Droid)

Black series C3PO looks the best surprisingly (out of every other line). I’m excited to see what the new r2 sculpt will look like

Build that Bandai R2! Best of the lot in my opinion. The 3PO kit is great as well. Bandai just kills it on their droid kits. I hope they do B2-EMO.

I have a bunch of the Bandai kits, from droids to starships, and they are excellent. I just want them to make more. Especially OT stuff. TIE Pilot, IG88, Sand Crawler, AT AT Driver, Snowtrooper, there are tons of characters left to do.

Can't go wrong with Bandai. They are sticklers for accurate scale and detail. SHF are too expensive for my taste, but their model kits are brilliant, and reasonably priced. However, I don't mix them with my action figures, so a good quality R2 will be a much desired addition to my Black Series Hoth collection. Then I just need a Wampa and a TaunTaun (and hopefully Major Derlin someday), and my collection will be complete.

Hello Luke thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new retooling of R2-D2. I can't wait to see how R2 will fit in with the black series figures. I'm also looking forward to Lord Vader with a new head sculpt with removable helmet. I'm hoping he will be the Empire version with a chain cape. I'm looking forward to Jedi 40th anniversary figures. I also love the 3P0 droids you made, your TC-14 looks great and C-3PO from Attack of the Clones. I wish Hasbro would make these figures since they have the molds but they haven't. Thanks again Luke for putting this video together. Take care my friend, Tom

Yeah, I was pretty happy to hear that they were going to retool R2, but I'm not looking forward on waiting to update all my astromechs. I picked up R5-D4 not too long ago, and still have BT-1 still in the box. I also have the Bandai model kit which is nice, but now is the outlier among my droids.
Maybe I'll just jump on collecting all the Black Series astromechs that everyone will sell off.

I'd love some new astromechs and protocol droids. It's guaranteed bank because of how rare they are. I'd love a black series 0-0-0 with interchangable torture arms and such. I have the black series 4-LOM and I absolutely ADORE him

LL I just realized you were saying you wanted to make a C2-P5 (if I got the designation right) using the Bandai model kit - there is actually an R2-Q2 (or is that R2-Q5? Dang I can’t remember!) Bandai model kit which would save you quite a bit of time and hassle as the main body and dome would already be cast in black plastic. I love the orange/amber and black contrast of the R2-Q5 but I would LOVE to see how C2 turns out!!! I was excited when I saw him advertised but then disappointed when he didnt turn up (those bastards! . Anyway Bandai went crazy with Astromechs for awhile and I’m all for it, putting out many color variations and then even additional gadgets to add on! Cant understand why they havent adapted the idea for their actual action figure line (their sub line/sister company Figuarts) or at the very least followed up with an Empire Strikes Back R2 with a spring loaded Periscope - and I mean a proper, integrated in the head, push in to pop up Periscope to out all those pathetic Hasbro snap on bits to shame. I find it bewildering the best Periscope (misnamed Sensorscope of course) is still the slide up version in the original Kenner 1982 R2D2! Why they cant produce such a simple, easy to use and built in feature is too much for them apparently because they insist on snap on/pop pff bits that are slimy, get lost and do not work! Bandai’s version is snap on of course, but it is a model kit and delicate unlike an action figure which must be more durable, but with a slight modification of a simple 2 piece telescoping unit, plus a spring loaded activation feature - basically a smaller version already in use for the middle leg to pop it up out of the dome, then pull it to extend the full height. By placing this in the appropriate dome slot, it even allows the eye change features to remain intact! (If/when they do a ROTJ version, the front eye change button could be moved to the hologram projector camera to free up the appropriate panel for holding the lightsaber hilt. I personally have never found this to be terribly important, certainly it pales in comparison to having a pop up Periscope which is, IMO an essential feature for R2-D2 to have, but I know others consider it important. It would be beyond awesome - and a testament to Bandai/Figuarts extreme talent at designing and engineering figures if they could keep ALL of the features intact in one dome allowing for the ULTIMATE Deluxe R2-D2 action figure with absolutely no competition! (Well, since I’ve gone overboard on the R2 post, I’ll go ahead and include a couple more wishes/fixes they need to implement: The middle leg spring loaded action is infinitely preferable to Hasbro’s annoying “twist dome to lower leg but forget ever getting the right pose or dome position”. But Mafex’s is every so slightly better in that the leg also extends out a few mm more than Figuarts, which is just slightly too short to do a proper “Rolling on 3 feet” look, you’ll know what I mean if you compare the two (Mafex versus Figuarts Middle leg extended and posing) - I have to put a little piece of something on the middle foot to get R2’s middle foot to touch the ground. Ever so slightly too short and needs to copy the Mafex method to be perfect! In addition to the Periscope; R2 needs at least one additional body compartment with opening door to be perfect! Preferably the one to the immediate right or left of his middle chest “speakers”. If they made the one to his left open, it could have a small magnet placed in side to allow a Restraining Bolt accessory to “stick” on the outside of it when closed! And this one doesnt need an arm inside it, it could be a socket allowing a custom tool to be used! This would be in addition to keep all the other compartments and his 2 blue mini manipulators that fold open on his chest immediately below his dome. With these additions, it would be the Ultimate R2-D2 figure in 6” Scale or any scale for that matter!!!! And could be released with multiples heads (domes, R5 heads - especially as R5 will be Madalorina’s Astromech in Series 3 etc!) and in different colors for easy profit on the tooling costs. Thank you for considering these suggestions and I will buy many of each as soon as you make it available!!!! :-) :-) :-)

Yeah the model kit will surpass all of these examples. The only problems are the time taken to build them, and that they aren’t as ‘toy like’ as the other figures. But once built, you won’t look back.
Get the C-3PO too. It’s mega.

Very happy with my SHF R2, would only replace it if there was one with LEDs and battery at that scale.
The irony is, i got the SHF one cheaper on the 2nd hand market than i have ever seen a TBS.
The Archive 3PO is good enough for me to stand next to him.
Hope the new Hasbro one will be on par, so that when R5 and othe droids get remade in the future, that i'll can get them then and not have them look awkward in comparison.
And hot damn, no wonder that MAFEX set is still available at retail.

If I may ask, which Black Series C3PO is that? At first I was thinking it was the one that came with Babu Frik since it's all gold and has the functioning elbows, but the eyes look yellow on your video instead of that sleep-deprived pink they normally are so I was wanting to ask to know the exact release.

Thank you for this video! R2 and 3PO were my first Kenner action figures back when I was a tiny tot, and I loved the Droids most of any characters from their very first scene, with R2 easily my favorite overall. I feel he is the ultimate hero and saved his human and alien and droid friends more times than anyone can count and his figure getting such bad treatment always, always annoyed me. After seeing the prototype Black Series R2 I was utterly appalled at what they shipped (seriously, Google “prototype R2 Black Series”!) which looked nothing like the beautiful and accurate prototype. When I saw Figuarts I hoped against hope and when I got him -he became my favorite R2 figure and is to this day. I also have the Mafex which I got after the Figuarts and yes, a dab of hot glue works wonders for Flimsy-Breakio! I combined the better sculpt of the one with BB-8 and the arm of the original for a fairly passable vac metalized 3PO. Figuarts is very good but something just isn’t quite right with the sculpt, whereas their 3PO model is amazing! BTW did a few of the R2 model kits and once you get can put him together in an hour -hour and a half. And it looks very close to the Figuarts figure. I just can’t understand how Hasbro could get R2 so wrong! It’s not just scale; tho the fact Luke’s lightsaber hilt won’t even fit is sadly hilarious; but his proportions are also wrong, his dome is warped or the wrong shape, his barrel body too short, his legs way too thin - almost the same width as the VOTC (not kidding!) and that annoying twist to lower the middle leg is torture and means you can never get the exact pose you want. And why on earth, when they could integrate the Sensorscope in his dome in 1980, could they not do it in 2014 in a larger scale??? It’s just a horrible let down. Seriously, whoever sculpted him didn’t bother checking any measurements, and I suspect is also the sculptor of IG-88 as he has the exact same issues!!! You can get a properly sized picture of R2 from straight on and hold Figuarts in front of it - he matches PERFECTLY! It’s art. Even Mafex is fairly close even though the scale is just ever slightly too big. But Hasbro’s…effort cam’t match no matter how you try. He’s just wrong, all over wrong, and our little droid deserves better. I had always worried if they ever did a Black series scaled X-Wing that the droid socket would be too small to fit Figuarts R2. Here’s hoping Hasbro fix the most glaring scale issue of the entire line…and fix IG-88 (and 11!) next. Putting their figures next to Figuarts shows just how bad Hasbro did, or rather whoever they hired for those 2 particular figures. I hate knocking someone’s work so bad but come on, did they really not notice IG-88 was standing a few feet *behind* every other bounty hunter and a few steps down (thus you couldn’t see his feet..I know he didn’t have any, beside the point!). Bossk was standing in front of the others and has a HUGE figure (with arms that are too short I might add!) it’s like whoever did some of those had no depth perception. I don’t know how you screw up R2, even if it was an animated R2 fan it was wrong. Hasbro, counting on you to fix this.Astromechs are bigger than your toy Aibo-detoo, get him right, use better plastic (the Dagibah R2 uses a higher grade plastic) and give Figuarts a run for the R2 money, integrated Sensorscope (PLEASE!), doors galore but accuracy to scale and proportions are essential. Get it right and you can easily resell all those Astromechs all over again to collectors who want screen accurate droids! And now you can do a Black Series X-Wing (HasLab, retail, whichever way!) with a proper scaled droid socket!
Okay, apologies for my lengthy R2Diatribe; many are passionate about their droids, *especially* Astromechs, and we are way past due accuracy in scale and proportions - we know you can do it Hasbro, wow us!!!
