- If you had told me just a few short weeks ago that the Medicom MAFEX Boba Fett from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was going to be good, I probably would have laughed in your face. If you had told me it would be great I would have probably checked you into a mental hospital. Well, apparently I'm crazy because this Fett is awesome. Who'da thunk it?

Finally picked this guy up. Not only is he my first Mafex, he’s also my first real import figure. I’m just blown away. Such a great figure!
The Hasbro version really looks like a toy now. MAFEX did a really good job here. ^.^

I've wanted to love Mafex since their first figures, but there were just too many problems to overlook. It's nice to see them living up to their potential with Fett. With as many delays as he went though, one hopes this means they are taking QC seriously across the board. Both Kylo and Rey look like they will be the best versions of those characters so far, so long as the figures don't fall apart.
I am right there with you. I need another Kylo about as much as I need another hole in my head, but the same could probably be said for Fett so I'm not going to complain, especially if Medicom can keep this kind of quality up.

Finally got my Mafex Boba Fett in the mail. This is for sure the best Boba Fett action figure made yet. Couldn't be happier.

No problem. I'd go as far as to say that this is probably my favorite Star Wars figure. So far.
The Fwoosh Mine just arrived. For sure my favorite as well. He just looks incredible, couldn’t ask for much better. The trigger finger hand was hard to put on at first but when I put it on the second time with the E-11 in hand it went on much more easily.
The Fwoosh have you seen Mafex Death Trooper? This guys is packed with accessories. He comes with additional ammo belt as well as extra shoulder pads. He even has interchangeable helmet, even though the diffrences between the two are miniscule! Seems lik mafex is stepping up their game. If they only manage to nail the quality control, there will be alot to spend your money on, hehe. I only wish they finally started attaching shoulder ads to arms of the figures instead of torso. Thatcoupled with good quality would make their figures irresistible.
Yup, I posted about it on the Fwoosh front page but waited until I got Fett in to make a decision. So of course I pre-ordered it yesterday, haha. Almost a year in advance, insane. If they can keep this kind of quality up they could take Bandai as top spot for Star Wars for me. But they have a lot of coming back to do after some of the bad figures.
I am happy to see no qc issues so far with this figure. It is a relief cause you never know with Mafex. The helmet looks a little too big but other then that it's really nice. Maybe it's not as bad in person. Thanks for the review, still waiting on BBTS to get him in.
Sometimes I look and think the helmet is too big but then I look at the movie and it's accurate and realistic. It really looks like there could be a head under there. But yeah, I'm ecstatic that the figure is as good as it is.
I think I finally found the Fett the get and I didn't expect it to be Mafex of all things at that. Time to start spending all I got on figures again thanks to my new job tomorrow!

the boba fett figure is pretty accurate that's how I've seen boba fett helmet for along time but I've finally found a good boba fett

I dap then with some floor polish in the socket hole and let them dry. So far the only Mafex figure Im enjoying. Look forward to your next review.
I'm glad you dig it! When I recommend something directly I sometimes regret it because then I start thinking, what if he gets a dud? What if he doesn't like it? It's all my fault! So yeah, glad to hear it's good. And I'll have to give the floor polish a try, thanks for that.

welp, no mafex cancellations today. I won't be getting this particular figure though as the model kit is more than good enough for me. For the price I would've liked to have seen a few more accessories with this guy. I'm irked that no company has given us jetpack flame trails. Man do some of those 3.75" figures look cool in flying poses like that, especially when the trail itself acted like a stand to hold him up. Great review as always robo, I look forward to Kylo Ren.
So weird, I edited out a part of me talking about what other accessories we could get for the price and all I could think of was a blast effect for the jetpack. That would have put it over the top. Thanks man, I'm hoping that Kylo comes out as good.
I feel good now, I got ROTJ Boba coming and Iron Man Mark 45 so I'm feeling better now

Yeah, the ROTJ is the biggie since it's the first any company has done. If it's like this one then we won't ever need another. I can finally have Fett hanging with Jabba.

Lol, that's a good point Robo. I wonder, in my case anyway, if the suttle changles of ROTJ Boba worth the $45 + purchase. Personally, I'm a fan of this version. But dear God, SH Figuarts better not announce their version,lol!

samuel Hernandez For me it comes down to needing a Fett for both the Empire bounty hunter display and then one to go with Jabba, so ROTJ is already preordered. That and I just hate money, gotta get rid of it as fast as I can get it, heh. I think even if Figuarts announces a Fett I'll pass. I already know it will be in the smaller scale they do for their troopers and armored characters, and I have a lot of faith that this MAFEX can't be beat. I can't believe I just said that.

I gotta agree with you on this diagnosis. The MAFEX version of Boba Fett does look VERY GOOD compared to the other versions. My only concern... is the MAFEX figure delicate? Or sturdy?
Believe me, I 've had my problems with MAFEX in the past but this one, this one is sturdy. Joints are nice and tight, sculpt and paint are on point, one of the best figures I've gotten this year.
I'm not usually a person that buys more than one 6 inch figure of any given character/outfit but this figure looks absolutely outstanding. A must have.
This is the replacement to all the other Fetts. Honestly, I can't see a better 6 inch Fett coming out.
Amazing, just amazing! This kinda makes me feel confident about my ROTJ Boba Fett Pre order, so yeah, Mafex lives another day for me too.
The only sad thing here is that I'm starting to disparage all the black series figures already 😧 they are, yeah just too cartooney...
I like the Black Series but it comes down to using it to supplement my imports and other Star Wars figures. The thing about Fett, I didn't even realize that the ones we had were kind of cartoony until I got an accurate, realistic version. Eye opener.
Glad you liked it, only complaint is that missile from the jet pack doesn't come off, shame.

so,,as far as all the 3.75 fett figures available; I am easily susceptible to a fett fetish, but with the 6 in. scale I have to be really impressed to get one,i thing the way the figure has been molded, just looks "right"!
The stance, the proportions, etc. I think it is funny that they are releasing the jedi version in 1 month, ( this, which is odd unto itself, the death trooper is being released in august of 2017...) which is just a color scheme versus, any real differences. so I figured I was taking a gamble with a medico figure but now I am glad I pulled the trigger
Well, the ROTJ also has some other slight changes like the belt and pant cuffs, but I know what you mean. I figure it will be pushed a couple of more months as that seem to be what Medicom always does. And that will push the December figures, which pushes the January Rey, and so on. The Fetts have been up for pre-order for quite a while, the far off release dates are pretty common with this line. But yeah, this figure, awesome, haha.
It looks so nice but...we still need an ROTJ version, and since my girlfriend and I painted up the model kit to meet the ROTJ colors, I'm not getting another Boba until an official ROTJ one comes out. Which would be MAFEX. Which would be...centuries from now.
Heh, the MAFEX ROTJ Fett was supposed to come out this month so hopefully it will be this year. They seem to have a 3 month push with all of their releases so it could even be January.
Ugh, I'm not looking forward to tracking this down secondary, but I clearly have to own it. oh well, I guess whenever I can afford it months from now, it'll be mine. hopefully it won't be too tough to find for me.
MAFEX isn't usually that hard to find later.

They knoced this one out of the park, sculpt-wise! Happy to hear it doesnt have any glaring QC issues. Eh, now I fee like I want to buy him. And I probably will. He looks absolutely fantastic. So much better than figuarts Jango. Something I never would expect.

Finally a good Mafex figure, i pre-ordered a Kylo Ren a couple month ago because by the pics it seems so good. This give me hope for that Kylo Ren figure, i hope the articulation wont suck as they usually do :-)
Yeah, exactly, with Medicom's track record so far it's hard to put TOO much confidence into the line even though Boba Fett is awesome. It's just how it is. Now, if they can knock ROTJ Fett and the next few releases out of the park I'd be a lot more apt to say that Medicom makes great toys. Hopefully that will be the case. Hopefully. Good grief I hope, haha.
awesome. just ordered it on HLJ thanks to your review. I'm a fan of the olive green jetpack and the iconic rifle as compared to the ROTJ version with the colorful jetpack and the EE-33. Hoping the ROTJ version looks as good or even better than this! LOL
You and me both! I prefer the ESB version but I also really want the ROTJ version to go with Jabba and the rest and I hope it's just as good.

That's the exciting thing, this Fett is good so hopefully our very first ROTJ Fett is just as nice. And it's not weird to know what you're getting before you actually have to spend the money. I'm a guinea pig and I'm not afraid to admit it, haha.

+The Fwoosh I have the episode 1 obi wan and I love it but he took a tumble and his saber broke so I have him just put away for now lol. I was thinking about getting someone to use the shf body with a custom episode 3 head sculpt to make a great obi wan figure.
Hopefully Mafex continues with making all their figures work with this great quality like this since they have had alot of mishaves on their figures when it comes with joints being loose or flipy even the weird toes being angeled up abit like with their batman figures.
Yeah, Medicom needs to keep this up. They could give even Bandai a run for it's money if all the future figures are like this one.
The Fwoosh oh yeah that's true especilly other figures that aren't just Star wars. The only company that seems well from Medicom is their sister company Medicos which only specializes for a japanese anime called jojo's bizarre adventure and that line is under the name Super action Statues and those figures are more better then the medicom line of mafex. Which is no surprise that japanese companies are better at anime figures then real life people. But seeing that Mafex is actually trying to get better with their fighures realizing that their market isn't just focus on the japanese market but other countries as well so it looks like they are listening to customers even feed back.
the head is too big, it kinda shows on it's own but REALLY shows when side by side with the model kit, I don't know if I can get past that, other wise it's excellent
The helmet size is accurate to the film, it makes me realize how small the head is on the model. And you know me, model kits are the best. But in this case, I gotta give it to MAFEX.

So, after this review, are you going to pick up the Mafex Kylo Ren figure when it comes out? I know you've said in a previous video (if my memory serves me well) that you were going to pass on the Medicom Kylo and wait for the SHF, but I was just curious if this Boba figure changed your mind.
Because of how great Boba came out I kept my MAFEX pre-order and haven't pre-ordered the SHF. Of course, the MAFEX Kylo and droids just got pushed to January but that seems to be Medicom's MO now, I'll still wait and see.

Exactly, they need to keep this up. If every release was like this Medicom would be giving Bandai a run for it's money. But I'm still nervous for future releases. They just have that track record.
Does anyone know the reason why his blaster barrel looks different in Return of the Jedi. Compared to his blaster in Emire strikes back. Is there a story to this.

great review as always! man this figure is soooo tempting. but with all the coming figuarts i'm really using every bit of self control not to grab this one. how does he compare in size next to the figuarts?
I have an actual pic in my next News episode, but to short story it: MAFEX Fett is bigger proportionally than SHF Jango and stands half a head taller. Which is perfect for the Black Series/Bandai model kit/SHF humans mix display, not so much for a straight SHF display.

If you're short on money, I'd say wait for figuarts that way you can compare which one you like better. However, if you have the cash lying around get it while you can. Don't forget also that they're (Mafex) also releasing a ROTJ version of the Fett-man next month, if that's your preferred version of him. Personally, I'm getting them both.
I completely forgot Jango, I plan on doing a News update tomorrow and I'll throw some comparison pics into there. The MAFEX is bigger overall though.
I think the Revoltech figure has sharper details and better paint applications but the Mafex has beter draping and also much better proportions, as well as a better sculpted helmet.
I like the Revo's articulations better because they are part of the figure and give Boba more movility, in contrast to Mafex wich tries to hide them but fails at that.
I think Mafex wins just because Revoltech fucked up with the shoulder pads.
Still gonna wait for the Figuarts Boba to replace my Revo.
The Revoltech always looked too stylized for my tastes. I say that with the Revo Deadpool in the mail and the Spidey on pre-order, haha.
I am very glad to see they brought out boba with his old blaster the used in episode 5 it's so much cooler than the one from return of the jedi and in my opinion it works much better with his armor design

Thanks for the video Fwoosh. What do you think about Mafex' Vader? I have Vader, and I haven't had any problems with it. I admit i don't play with my figures, I mostly pose them and forget them for long periods of time. I've heard so many people complaining about Mafex, that i feel my Vader may just fall apart if i mess with it too much.
I have Vader and like him, I keep switching between it and the Bandai model. Have never had a problem with it except for the pin up inside the top helmet breaking, but that actually worked out for the better because it's looks better sitting lower.
The Fwoosh Yeah i saw your video on Vader. I really love my Mafex vader, but i had no idea mafex had so many mishaps. I think S.H.Figuarts ROTJ Luke and Mafex vader are the perfect match. I just got S.H.Figuarts ANH Luke and it is fantastic.
The only real issue with mafex nowadays is the hands. Some of the hands are a lot tighter than the other which makes it harder to interchange them and due to the fragility of the peg there is a lot of breakage. I got the bvs batman and the hand peg broke very easily. I got it replaced and I checked all the hands before putting them on. 6 hands are to tight so I don't use those. I'm looking forward to the boba fett.
I didn't break the peg on Fett but the trigger finger hand is super tight compared to the rest. The left open hand is loose enough to want to fall off when trying to get it into place but not under it's own weight. But yeah, those are really the only issues with Fett.
The Fwoosh damnit I really want to get Boba but the tightness of the hole could snap the peg. I suggest being careful with removing the hand as on my batman I tested a trigger hand and it was so tight the peg snapped. I gotta figure out a way to open the hole a bit more.
Alex Sinibaldi I plan on always having him hold the rifle so I should have to pull the hand again unless I get crazy. I did change it out several times for pics during the review, didn't seem like it was going to snap.
I've been torn apart. I feel the pull to the mafex.
It's definitely the dark side, with not knowing what you're going to get every time. But if you're going to succumb to the MAFEX, Boba Fett is the way to go.

I was just going to get Black Series figures and deal with the quality, but then I found Fwoosh, and the reviews changed my mind! Might end up getting RotJ Fett on your recommendation. You going to any cons in the South East? If so, I owe you a coffee, or beer!
Most of the cons I hit are east, although that's weird now that I think about it, but I will be at the Star Wars Celebration. Unfortunately, I'll be working most of the time. Get the ROTJ Fett, best Fett ever (although I prefer ESB, both are about the same quality-wise) and I don't see anyone topping it anytime soon.
The Fwoosh I do have the ESB version, and I love that figure. Now I'm just trying to figure out if I really need two. Collections would have to get shuffled around.

I'm getting the SH Figuarts Jango and I was wondering if the two look good together (scale-wise and so on). Thanks. Keep up the great vids.
I completely forgot about Jango, I'm going to shoot some comparisons and throw them in a news update in the next couple of days, but basically the MAFEX is about half a head taller and bigger proportionately than the SHF Jango.

I really don't think SHF could beat the MAFEX in this case. This figure is just so good.
The Fwoosh it definitely warrents a buy from me. though i do wish that plastic cloth piece was actual cloth , considering mafex doesnt shy from soft-goods.

I mess around with this all the time, no worries about the joints. The jetpack feels a little fragile but the rest of the figure, perfect. And thanks!
Happy this turned out to be a good figure. Probably gonna hold off on it though and snag the RotJ version because I just like that variant better. Not sure how it would because it would likely be mostly reused sculpt but hopefully that version doesn't somehow turn out to be trash. Also hope the Rey turns out as well as this figure too.
Wouldn't it be awful if the ROTJ turns out to be a dud? I swear, Medicom playing with our emotions. I have high hopes for Rey, please come out good.
Glad to see this get decent reviews. Always thought the Mafex Stormtrooper was the best of the six inch line. Not a fan at all of the Figurarts Jango Fett.
Heh, I still need to open my MAFEX Stormtrooper. I've had it for a long time but after hating the C-3PO so much I didn't even feel like opening it.

How is the scale and proportions compared to Black Series Jango Fett? One thing I noticed about Black Series Boba is that it's helmet is smaller compared to Jango's.
I never had the chance to buy Black Series Boba Fett due to it being so overpriced and have so many bootlegs out there, and considered it would be the ultimate addition for my B.Seires collection. But now seeing a substitute, A BETTER substitute by no other than Mafex, is so......weird.....
Haha, I'm right there with you. The model was my ultimate Fett and now a MAFEX figure comes in and blows it away? Insane. The MAFEX Fett is half a head taller and slightly proportionally larger than the SHF Jango. I completely forgot to compare, I'll have pics in my next News update, hopefully today.
The Fwoosh Just saw Jango and Boba figures comparison pic in your written review and gotta say I'm very happy to see that scale and propotions between B.Series Jango and Mafex Boba are much closer and better than SHF Jango or BF Boba. Especially the sizes of their helmets.

High praise indeed. Mafex can sometimes give us a home run. Dark Knight 0.2, Vader, BvS batman (shame about the shoulders) so let's hope their average gets better. I always think of Mafex as Dc/PC /Star Trek and Figuarts as Marvel/apple/Star Wars.
Medicom just gets Boba going all the way back to the RAH version. I cancelled but gonna reorder i think.

i do have Revoltech Boba Fett, and i'm quite happy with him... but overall it's great this figure turned out to be good, now fingers-crossed for kylo and rey.. :D weheeee... i think medicom is only company on market which drives people really crazy, on every release people are on edge... is it going to be good, bad, good, bad.. i wouldn't be surprised if at the end we would find out that's it's like a marketing trick, that leads people to buy their brand... because they do still hope and chase for a good release.. that next one will be as cool as the last one which didn't fall aparts... in their hands... :) heheheee
They would be doing so much more business if they would only make every figure like this though, it's seems crazy to me. That or they are using different factories for different figures, which makes sense I guess. With Kylo, Phasma, and the droids all supposedly hitting at the same time I worry about how varied the QC will be there, like when Superman and Batman dropped at the same time.

great i can't waite for mine!!!!, one question at 10:28 i know about the diorama walls for star wars but the corner that bobba is leaning on is that a solid corner piece?? they sell corner pieces as well to go along with the walls ?
Naw, I just have the corner of the perpendicular walls butted together, no extra piece. I know, when I looked at the pic it threw me off and I put the thing together, haha. I won't ever be able to do it that perfectly again.

I would have said the same thing since there is no other ROTJ version out there, but having the MAFEX ESB blow all the others away? I'm dumbfounded. Happy, but confused, haha.

This thing is beautiful. FWOOSH, is it just me or does it seem like there's way more ESB Fett figures than ROTJ? I think the ROTJ Fett is so much cooler.
There are and I don't know why that is. In fact there are no ROTJ Fetts currently out, and oddly enough the first one will be MAFEX, which was supposed to be out this month. But why every company under the sun decided to go ESB first is beyond me. I just know that this one is now the best one, which I never thought I'd say. Awesome.
Geoffrey Blasiman maybe because ESB is the best SW film by far? or maybe coz Boba is badass in ESB and doesnt fall to the Sarlaac

Yeah, this figure kind of renewed my faith. For now anyway, there are still four more figures before Rey. And I expect them to do a Jyn but not until 2018. Their schedule seems to run a year behind. The Death Trooper isn't until August 2017 and that was the quick get-out for the other companies. But yeah, if Medicom can keep this quality up, I'll wait. Crazy.

I get the feeling that with mafex when they have a good figure, its amazing and the end all be all figure. When its bad its bad. Hopefully since they obviously pushed this figure back to make it great, they don't think they secured anyone with the line. There rey figure will show if there slaking or not.
I don't know, the droid were pushed back several times and those came out half and half. We'll see with the upcoming releases though.

oh man, that boba fett is THE quintessential 6 inch Fett figure. i ended up pre orderingthe Return of The Jedi version since the Black series is already the Empire one, kinda wishing i didnt do that now. about time we see a rifle sing on weapons, it bugs me that black series doesnt do that.

Junkyard Fox I did as well. 😅 first Star wars Mafex figure and I got both versions lol. This figure's greatness subsequently made me preorder Rey, FN-2187, Rogue One Vader, Death Trooper, and the Shoretrooper lol.

I get credit if this occurs. Especially since I keep hearing these sounds in my head and giggling like an idiot for no apparent reason! :-) And agree, this Fett looks awesome! I repainted my knockoff with the darker grey body suit and he is amazing looking (speaking of, have you seen that amazing custom Black Series Boba done up in Vintage Kenner Fett colors? Wowza!
Heh, the funny thing about those sounds, I don't realize I do them until I'm editing and go "What the hell?" And then it makes me laugh. And then I leave it in because it makes me laugh.
This is the only figure I've seen that beats a well-painted Bandai model, imho.
I'd have to throw the Phasma and maaaaaaaybe the SHF R2-D2 on that list too. R2 mostly for the nifty light gimmick though.
Is this better than the revoltech boba fett?
I never liked the look of the Revoltech Fett, with it's stylized look, almost cartoony, so I never bought it. I've also never been the biggest fan of the Revo joints (I say as I have the Revoltech Deadpool on the way). If you're looking for screen accuracy and passable articulation, the MAFEX is the better choice.
Is the jetpack removable?
No it's not. It's attached slightly crooked for some reason, leaning to the left barely, and there isn't even a way to adjust. That thing is stuck on there.
Hi, I'm a longtime star wars collector and I'd like to start collecting marvel and dc comic characters, need some guidance about what would be the go to lines (like TVC, legacy, Black Series, Sh Figuarts in Star Wars Universe). Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to help me out :)
For Marvel you're not going to get much better than Marvel Legends from Hasbro. Sure, there is a lot of reuse but the amount of characters alone is impressive.
For DC comic characters, I like the DC Universe Classics line from Mattel. Started strong, had a lot of good secondary and even obscure characters included during it's run, but puttered near the end. A lot of people dumped their collections on eBay for mostly less than retail, not sure how easy they are to pick up now. Currently, not a lot of DC comic style figures out there but Mattel did show some nice stuff at this year's SDCC to be released next year. Those look to fit right in with the old line fairly seamlessly.

How tall is he conpared to Figuarts Star Wars
He may be a little large if you're only doing Figuarts but he's exactly the same height as the Black Series Fett if you're doing a mixed display.

Nope. Slight issue with a couple of the hands being loose on the wrist but I'm calling this an overall win.
Man! ...i didn't want to get this one because I have the BS one...but...man...it's really looks good. And qualitywise leaps and bounds better than previous Mafex's. Darn it, there goes another 50 euros ...;-)
