This is literally the exact comparison I needed. I just... I just really need to order the kit. It looks so stunning. And I order Gundam kits all the time! Why can't I bring myself to order this one?
Also, digging the redesign you got with the music and layout, always good to change things up!

I don't know what Hasbro was thinking with some of their recent exclusives. Why they made the regular Scarif Stormtrooper grunt and classic C-3PO exclusives is beyond me.

Agreed! I have Bandai 3PO (w/ R2) standing with pride among my Black series collection and he fits in great!
I love the Bandai Threepio. I got one just before Christmas 2015 and had such a blast building it. I ditched the decals in favour of paint for the wires and then when finished gave him a light wash with black in the finer details to give him a little bit more depth. I like the kit so much I plan on getting a second to do him all scuffed up and dented after falling off the rock when startled by the sand people.. One thing to also note is that you can leave the back cover off and display him with the circuitry that Chewie was tinkering with exposed.

The Hasbro can be sprayed with gunze 10,000 mr surface and then sprayed with just about any rattle can gold paint. But Timiya rattlecan works best. Then a high gloss overcote.

I have them both,and I will say that the model kits are much more accurate and realistic than the black series, but both are well done and worth buy if you're a C3P0 fan and collector
I'd love to give Hasbro the nod...but between Walgreens, Wal Mart , and Target, we couldn't get a shiny 3p0....for shame.

I wanted to get a few action figures of Star Wars characters for display, but found that the "super detailed" black series looks shitty.
Now that I know that there are Bandai Model Kits, I'm totally getting them, since I'm into modelbuilding for a long time, it is double appealing (plus I can add any extra I miss with some paint)
Oh yeah, if you're already comfortable with painting model kits I'm sure you'll LOVE the Bandai kits. It really doesn't take much to put them in screen-accurate territory. And they really aren't that expensive. And there's quite a few characters at this point.

To Canadian collectors you can easily find the black series 3PO at EB games they are overstocked where I live and not to expensive either. I love the comparisons but I am simply not just a Star Wars figure collector but a black series collector. The black series are easier to find for me and not as expensive. I admit they desperately needed the bicep swivel on the figure but I can over look the elbow joints.

I have the mafex 3p0 on order, but now I am second guessing myself that bandai one looks pretty nice. the hasbro I agree is not good, I found one on clearance for $7.00 and still hesitated before I bought it.
I haven't heard a lot of good things about the Mafex. Haven't picked it up myself so I can't speak from experience.
bummer, well I'm locked in, so I'll just have to wait and hope.
Another better kit than a black series, in my opinion, is captain phasma. I got both of them, and I can say that, the bandai model kit captain phasma is a must have.

Agreed. The Bandai kit is awesome. Looks so good shiny but I had to weather him up a bit. Looks much more authentic and the details show up a lot better.

not being vac metalized is unacceptable for the money and lack of accessories. this and phasma are such disappointments because of hasbro cheaping out on the good stuff... but they want the same price!

The model kit is too shiny. 3PO isn't usually that reflective and the eyes on the kit are weird. Black Series eyes are atypical but it works well. Black Series 3PO should've had interchangeable parts to get the preferred version of him. I think a clean wide release vs dirty exclusive would've been better than red arm vs gold arm/silver leg. Oh well.
Too shiny you say? Plus its a model kit. You can dirty it up as you see fit. Its not hard at ALL

The black series are so much cheaper though. Sometimes if you aren't talking about the comicon exclusives.
Definitely a superior figure, and has to be the definitive threepio to this point. He benefits greatly from being painted too. This is one I recently built with a side by side comparison of no paint on the left and painted on the right.

Bandai model kit is the way to go especially with C-3PO and capt. Phasma. They both shine over every other Co. Plus they are fun to put together with no need for paint and minimal to no decal/stickers. Mafex is too fragile and have been coming apart on people.
my vader say's otherwise but people dislike his design alot ( i don't but the helmet could be better) and i've seen some people not have problems with bvs batman and the boba fetts. but C-3po and phasma aren't worth it.

Yeah but the hip articulation gives the Hasbro figure a chance of sitting on a flying throne to scare alien teddy bears into not eating his Terran friends. Also the clever paint job of Hasbro's eyes make him look more alive and less like a powered down droid. I think the two are a draw because neither gives you the 3PO figure you want and need. Bring on the LED eyes and vac Gold body with enough articulation to have it sit. $90-100? Sure. 1:12 are you gonna get to make Star Wars figs?

They were at the rebel base. I believe it was just before the Rogues steal the ship to head to Scarif. Threepio even has a line.

Am I the only one who hates that silver leg? Seriously, why do C-3PO figures like to have them? The red arm at least was a nice looking interuption of his color scheme, but the silver leg is just annoying. Just make him all gold. It's less distracting.

Mm hmm, just as I thought. I love my bandai 3po. I refuse to buy any of the black series C-3po versions. I see myself buying more and more international figures than the black series crap they've been coming out with. Not all black series are junk, but most are in my opinion. I pick and choose and mix and match.
I'm hearing that more from the 6 inch crowd.

I didn't paint mine so it has that clean, medal ceremony look but I've seen people give it a coat of grime and it really looks good.

Seen these movies dozens of times, never ever remember him having a silver leg... And why would he be depicted in toys and other things as being all gold if he never was all gold and always had a silver leg..That doesn't make sense

And as a kid, you seem to miss out alot of detail. I didn't realise Buzz Lightyears wings flipped out, and always thought it 'sprung' out, worst of all, i even owned the toy. How could i have forgot that detail?
Even looking at VHS (Theatrical release ver.) threepio had a silver leg, but looked gold for most of the film, because it reflected the sand.
