It's ok to shape the metal before you weld it in. Using straight pieces on a curved surface is going to have your roof looking like a cyber truck.

If you dont have air use 240 volt power tools. More rpm, do a better and quicker job. Batttery operated is nice but heavy

Hey mate fantastic job, loving all your videos! I have a rusty hj60 myself, about to start working on the roof! Question, did you have to remove the roof liner before welding up those holes? if not how did you manage the heat and stop the roof lining from igniting? Once again brilliant job mate and thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Mack

I didn't take the roof lining out. But I also did burn a hole in it accidentally. Mostly because the roof was so rusty, it allowed the welding spatter to go through to the roof liner. Usually, there's another layer of metal that stops that from happening. I'd say you'll be fine when welding the roof most of the time. But if you wet the roof liner before you weld it, it will stop it from lighting. And also don't do gasless welding. It creates a lot of spatter that can ignite the roof liner.

Holy Christ.. I'd consider this body not worth of time and money investment, would replace it entirely. You may patch up holes, but the inner structure is compromised too, the one that you don't see yet. With the amount of rust damage like that, you can't really make this body last for long and be as strong as new..

Advice: stop filming yourself when talking. It's nauseating, and amateur, you are moving excessively it ruins your videos. B-roll then speak over it. Best of luck!
