    Hi Shakira! I don't think that's necessary. I guess it would depend on how long you want your salad to last. These will last 3-4 days in the refrigerator without a problem. Enjoy :)

      karmaaaaaaaaaa Exactly...My daughter asked me if you eat it in the jar. I said no, pour it into a bowl...but it looks like more than one serving to me. Maybe I have to rethink this...is it one serving or more...you can't eat leftover salad.

      Sharon Mynes In my opinion after the dressing is mixed throughout, the greens start to wilt and I wouldn't want to eat it the next day. But I guess the other ingredients would last.

    • @rodneykingston6420
      @rodneykingston6420 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +mIchaela burton The jar is just a way to turn it into a convenience food that can last in the fridge. I'd definitely pour it into a bowl and mix it up when it was time to eat. I wouldn't mix it before it goes in the jar because the dressing will disintegrate the solid food as it stayed in the fridge, that's why she puts it on the bottom.

      Not a good idea to mix it up when you make it to store in the fridge, that defeats the purpose of layering ingredients to keep them fresh, especially of you use lettuce or other greens.

    No one in the videos that I've seen in youtube do a jar salad and put in a bowl. All the say is " there you go, all you have to do is mix it and enjoy" I would like to see someone mix the salad w/ dressing on the bottom of that mason jar and eat it. Why put it in the jar if you have to put it in a bowl anyway?

    • @BlazerT48
      @BlazerT48 9 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I think because this salad in a jar is more like "prepare for your meal early" then store it in a fridge. It's also easier to store them in a fridge for space saving. Also using jar is a good way to make sure the portion is right, so you don't "accidentally" overeat.

    • @samsellz5990
      @samsellz5990 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      risquecat I was thinking the same thing lol. Make it in a jar, then put it in a bowl LOL... Why not make a "Salad in a bowl with a lid" Hahaha. :)

    • @NoirVelours
      @NoirVelours 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      risquecat I saw a few videos where they don't pack the ingredients to the lid, they leave some space and use small pieces too, so when they shake the jar the dressing mixes well with everything then they really can eat the salad from the jar. Most salad preppers overfill because it looks pretty I guess.

    • @2minuteword237
      @2minuteword237 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I pour mine in a bowl. But for me, it keeps longer in a mason jar, than a regular bowl with a lid and it also takes up less space in my fridge and lunch bag. Plus I automatically want to eat it when I see it layered all nice but when it's in a bowl, I forget its there and it winds up going bad. Something about the attractiveness of it makes me grab for it.

      You could always use a reusable plastic bowl with lid or a clear plastic jar. I try not to use plastic but this is one time where it can be washed and used many times. I don’t like the idea of traveling with the glass jar. I’m too clumsy!! I think eating the salad would be much easier from a bowl.

    FYI: Get actual information. Iceberg lettuce is "nothing but filler" -- it was invented to be absent of nutrition, so it wouldn't spoil while being shipped ridiculous distances. (Apparently bacteria are smarter than humans, and only eat things that are good for them.)
    But other types of lettuce and greens are loaded with vitamins, roughage, and trace minerals -- hence the "leafy greens" requirement for healthy eating. And here you are telling people that greens are a waste!
    My recommendation: Do some research and find out what foods actually pair well to make good nutrition, and put those combinations in your recipes. Take a bag or container of healthy greens (arugula, spinach, mesclun greens, romaine, etc.), and dump this jar of veggies onto the lettuce.

    For those of you like me who don't like soggy veg, and even putting dressing at the bottom scares you, you can buy mini zip lock bags and stuff you jar like she shows and put the dressing in the bag, and put it at the top before you close the lid! :D

    I absolutely love the fruity one and the Greek one. My two favorite kinds of salads! I made a really great mason jar salad once. It was lemon vinagrette dressing, golden delicious apple, feta cheese, walnuts and baby spinach. I also like making a pear salad with homemade pear vinaigrette (pear juice, spicy mustard and olive oil), Bartlett pears, walnuts or pecans, bleu cheese and baby spinach. It's amazing!

    Maybe a tip for the onion, if you rinse it in cold water it won't give off as much odor to the other ingredients, you still get the freshness and onion taste but everything else won't taste like onion.
    I love your videos btw, great jobs, great pace and easy to follow. Now I gotta go watch your next video. Thanks!

      If you keep them in the refrigerator first they won't be as bad. Also white onions aren't has bad with the tears as yellow onions.

    • @MsJoniJones
      @MsJoniJones 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +John Snediker Yeah, but you rinse away taste and nutrients. Rinse before and you won't get the dirt and/or pesticides/wax inside the veg and fruit.

    It looks pretty but difficult to eat from a jar
    We will just be getting 1 item by 1

    • @crimeslime5419
      @crimeslime5419 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hm... I'm thinking that maybe you could toss all the ingredients together before you put them in, but store the dressing separately so the other ingredients won't get soggy like she said. Then when you're ready to eat the salad you can add the dressing then. Since it would be hard to mix the dressing all the way to the bottom of the jar, just add little by little as you eat

    • @pastelpinkhoney
      @pastelpinkhoney 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Anna Banana thanks for the helpful idea!! This is a great tip for me because I don't have a desk job and often don't have a plate with me, so being able to just eat from the jar is the best option 👍

    • @crimeslime5419
      @crimeslime5419 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Judy Abusteit yeah you're right, adding the dressing little by little might be just a tad bit excessive, and slightly ruin the point of having everything in one jar. Shaking it up a good amount when you're ready to will probably do the trick. If you still find that shaking the dressing doesn't work you can always pack it separately the next day. Salads don't taste too bad with little to know dressing

      I agree, I love the different lettuces and greens you can put in a salad. Some may think of it as "filler" but for some of us salad fans the greens can really pull the all the other ingredients together to make the meal. Spicy arugula is my favorite.

    I love these meals in jars idea; so fabulous! I have my notepad and sharpie writing them all down! I work the graveyard shift and these are perfect for the week! I'm also doing the overnight oats!
    You are very explanatory, except I know you are using 1L mason jars, but I'm unsure of the measurements of most of the ingredients. Like with the protein salad more specifically, do you just use random amounts to fill the jar or is it calculated (e.g. the chickpeas, potatoes, and egg)

    You're great! These salads look luscious and in big enough pieces to really appreciate the individual flavors! Can you please do a tutorial on how YOU break it all down and eat it? Also, I'm aware that these jars are inexpensive to buy in bulk, or separately, and that they've got this neat look to them, and are easy to store, sterilize, and pre-mix stuff in, the night before, to save time in the coming week days, but so far, it's still ringing in as counter intuitive compared to storing ready-made veggies in shatterproof tupperware(the healthy plastic) and just keeping your vinegarettes on hand... But my mind is open to you, you've got a contagious enthusiasm.

      +Rachel Andréa If you have containers like that, you can certainly use them. But for most people, they probably don't have enough large bowls with lids that can also store easily in the fridge. This is an easy way to store them without taking up much room. But do whatever works for you.
