Hi Shakira! I don't think that's necessary. I guess it would depend on how long you want your salad to last. These will last 3-4 days in the refrigerator without a problem. Enjoy :)
I just wanted to say u r soooo awsome!!!!!! And that your recepies are amazing u r sooooo creative and fun like your recepies!!!!!!!!! U make my day and my make me hungry ;) U make every video shine ;) Love ya :D
karmaaaaaaaaaa Exactly...My daughter asked me if you eat it in the jar. I said no, pour it into a bowl...but it looks like more than one serving to me. Maybe I have to rethink this...is it one serving or more...you can't eat leftover salad.
Sharon Mynes In my opinion after the dressing is mixed throughout, the greens start to wilt and I wouldn't want to eat it the next day. But I guess the other ingredients would last.
My boyfriend showed me some of your videos, and I really love them! I'm trying to eat healthier, and help my roommate eat healthier as well, and these salads will be really easy for us. Plus, you look a little like Snow White from Once Upon a Time!
I just made the Asian Salad in a jar. So good!! I added some rice vinegar to the dressing for a bit more tang and added some chow mein noodles for crunch. Such a great option for lunch. Thanks for the unique recipes!
I love your ideas and I think for a working Mom, this is a great way to make 4 lunches ahead and grab one on the way out the door. Could make duplicates for family as well.I don't mind taking a bowl to dump it into. Beautiful and nutritious.
I made this so much 8 years ago to the point where my co workers kept asking about it and eventually I started making jar salads for them every now and then! I made them as work gifts as well LOL! THE BEST recipes of anything MASON JAR IS ON DOMESTIC GEEK!
The fact that these are so pretty made me want to eat them even more! I'm thirteen and I decided to make one of these (before the x-mas break) for lunch at school and LITERALLY all the kids at my table were like "Ew. That's so healthy." and I was like "Ha! Get on my level!" I felt like the baddest kid on the block! xD
I absolutely love your creative way of making quick delicious healthy meals! I already started my breakfast smoothies last week and loved it! Saved so much time for me and I love all the protein I am getting in every meal! Thank you so much for creating "The Domestic Geek"....you are so not a Geek, you are a gorgeous and beautiful soul embracing her calling! You helped me and I am so thankful!
Yay! I have been scouring TH-cam for healthy, yet simple recipes, and I'm so relieved I found your channel! I can't wait to try the oatmeal and salad recipes. Thank you from San Antonio, Texas :-)
I've been liking your smoothies and oatmeal and salad recipes. I'm eating healthy, and my goodness your approach is so good. Wholesome foods in healthy tasty amounts!!! Love love love.
I absolutely love the fruity one and the Greek one. My two favorite kinds of salads! I made a really great mason jar salad once. It was lemon vinagrette dressing, golden delicious apple, feta cheese, walnuts and baby spinach. I also like making a pear salad with homemade pear vinaigrette (pear juice, spicy mustard and olive oil), Bartlett pears, walnuts or pecans, bleu cheese and baby spinach. It's amazing!
This is the coolest idea ! I dont do my food shopping for another 5 days but i already have writen my list full, of vegies and the dressing ingredients ! So excited, thank you for giving me ideas for salads !
These are great and I love that they're massive. Whenever I eat a big salad at work people make weird comments "wow that's a big salad"...yeah... cause it's flipping salad. There's about 12 calories in the entire flipping thing. Jog on with your snickers (No serious leave because I want it!)
Natalie Oughton i havent had the chance to checkbout all your salad recipe but i'd love if you share a salad recipe without all these fancy pancy dressing, somethong with salt and pepper plz. Thanks alot
This is awesome..really great ideas and love ur videos and work and looks like I need to invest in some mason jars..hopefully they sell them in the UK.
You could always use a reusable plastic bowl with lid or a clear plastic jar. I try not to use plastic but this is one time where it can be washed and used many times. I don’t like the idea of traveling with the glass jar. I’m too clumsy!! I think eating the salad would be much easier from a bowl.
I am 60 pounds down and love it, I am still working out and loosing more weight by cutting out fast food and l now go to subway for lunch or giant food for a healthy salad ecd, however I am a stylist and stay busy so these are great tasty and healthy ideas I will have to try and I fast from meat on Monday's too lol
I'm in love with your channel and just subbed on IG also. Ok so do I shake up the jar and just eat the salad out of the jar? Does the dressing get all over the salad that way? Or so I pour it all in a bowl?
You're great! These salads look luscious and in big enough pieces to really appreciate the individual flavors! Can you please do a tutorial on how YOU break it all down and eat it? Also, I'm aware that these jars are inexpensive to buy in bulk, or separately, and that they've got this neat look to them, and are easy to store, sterilize, and pre-mix stuff in, the night before, to save time in the coming week days, but so far, it's still ringing in as counter intuitive compared to storing ready-made veggies in shatterproof tupperware(the healthy plastic) and just keeping your vinegarettes on hand... But my mind is open to you, you've got a contagious enthusiasm.
+Rachel Andréa If you have containers like that, you can certainly use them. But for most people, they probably don't have enough large bowls with lids that can also store easily in the fridge. This is an easy way to store them without taking up much room. But do whatever works for you.
Maybe a tip for the onion, if you rinse it in cold water it won't give off as much odor to the other ingredients, you still get the freshness and onion taste but everything else won't taste like onion. I love your videos btw, great jobs, great pace and easy to follow. Now I gotta go watch your next video. Thanks!
+mIchaela burton The jar is just a way to turn it into a convenience food that can last in the fridge. I'd definitely pour it into a bowl and mix it up when it was time to eat. I wouldn't mix it before it goes in the jar because the dressing will disintegrate the solid food as it stayed in the fridge, that's why she puts it on the bottom.
Not a good idea to mix it up when you make it to store in the fridge, that defeats the purpose of layering ingredients to keep them fresh, especially of you use lettuce or other greens.
For those of you like me who don't like soggy veg, and even putting dressing at the bottom scares you, you can buy mini zip lock bags and stuff you jar like she shows and put the dressing in the bag, and put it at the top before you close the lid! :D
It depends if you have a wide-mouth jar. But generally you could probably eat from the jar. Personally I'd pour it onto a plate or what not. Either way would work.
Thank you for these salad tutorials.. I have been looking for healthy alternative meals, good thing i found your channel.. You are amazing and I love the way you present all these tutorials, short, easy and fun.. Keep it coming please.. love ya!
I don't know how I only just found this channel now. I love your energy and the recipes looks really yummy and no fuss to put together. Can't wait to try them out soon!
Fantastic. Bought lots of veggies including dried cranberries, raw walnuts and sunflower seeds and getting ready to do this tomorrow! Thx so much as I needed some inspiration to get healthy once again and this adds a fun twist and makes things easier to manage by prepping. X
***** That's so awesome! I know how hard it can be to stay on track...That's why I find it so helpful to make all my healthy food for the week on Sunday. Then it's ready to go :D
Awesome!! Why have i not thought to do it this way?! Only thing i would consider is tapping your jar on a towel or something soft to absorb the tension from the glass. They do not anneal the jars as long as they used toThis process makes them very dense. They did this to safe on costs for the time it takes to properly cool glass to become dense so, be cautious when tapping your jars.
No one in the videos that I've seen in youtube do a jar salad and put in a bowl. All the say is " there you go, all you have to do is mix it and enjoy" I would like to see someone mix the salad w/ dressing on the bottom of that mason jar and eat it. Why put it in the jar if you have to put it in a bowl anyway?
I think because this salad in a jar is more like "prepare for your meal early" then store it in a fridge. It's also easier to store them in a fridge for space saving. Also using jar is a good way to make sure the portion is right, so you don't "accidentally" overeat.
risquecat I saw a few videos where they don't pack the ingredients to the lid, they leave some space and use small pieces too, so when they shake the jar the dressing mixes well with everything then they really can eat the salad from the jar. Most salad preppers overfill because it looks pretty I guess.
I pour mine in a bowl. But for me, it keeps longer in a mason jar, than a regular bowl with a lid and it also takes up less space in my fridge and lunch bag. Plus I automatically want to eat it when I see it layered all nice but when it's in a bowl, I forget its there and it winds up going bad. Something about the attractiveness of it makes me grab for it.
I've been surfing your channel for ideas, because next year I'm moving next to my friend. She sucks at cooking, or anything related to that, so I'm going to make her lunch next to mine before school! But she is still the kinda girl that you would expect to get Ana at some point, so I was having trouble finding something healthy but that would still taste great! But then I came across a couple videos and I just went BOOM! Ideas. Anyway, your channels awesome and your creativity with this is just...wow! Xoxo
FYI: Get actual information. Iceberg lettuce is "nothing but filler" -- it was invented to be absent of nutrition, so it wouldn't spoil while being shipped ridiculous distances. (Apparently bacteria are smarter than humans, and only eat things that are good for them.) But other types of lettuce and greens are loaded with vitamins, roughage, and trace minerals -- hence the "leafy greens" requirement for healthy eating. And here you are telling people that greens are a waste! My recommendation: Do some research and find out what foods actually pair well to make good nutrition, and put those combinations in your recipes. Take a bag or container of healthy greens (arugula, spinach, mesclun greens, romaine, etc.), and dump this jar of veggies onto the lettuce.
I eat healthy and I love all vegetables.Love this idea and this is a prove that everybody can eat healthy and it is not expencive and takes almost no time.Tnx for sharing you are the best :)
then eat lettuce. These are great ideas but it's not a law you have to follow, you can swap some stuff out. I am a lettuce fiend and when I make these jars, I just replace my least favorite veggie with butter lettuce and it's still delicious!
Hm... I'm thinking that maybe you could toss all the ingredients together before you put them in, but store the dressing separately so the other ingredients won't get soggy like she said. Then when you're ready to eat the salad you can add the dressing then. Since it would be hard to mix the dressing all the way to the bottom of the jar, just add little by little as you eat
+Anna Banana thanks for the helpful idea!! This is a great tip for me because I don't have a desk job and often don't have a plate with me, so being able to just eat from the jar is the best option 👍
+Judy Abusteit yeah you're right, adding the dressing little by little might be just a tad bit excessive, and slightly ruin the point of having everything in one jar. Shaking it up a good amount when you're ready to will probably do the trick. If you still find that shaking the dressing doesn't work you can always pack it separately the next day. Salads don't taste too bad with little to know dressing
Thank you so much, your video are really inspired. That's what i want exactly!! I found so many videos only yours help work it out! You are so nice to share so much excellent production here! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+mytreasuredcreations I think she said it because for many people salad means only lettuce, but to actually make a good salad there are many ingredients that you can use.
I agree, I love the different lettuces and greens you can put in a salad. Some may think of it as "filler" but for some of us salad fans the greens can really pull the all the other ingredients together to make the meal. Spicy arugula is my favorite.
They look so colorful and appetizing in the mason jars. I'm definitely going to try your homemade dressings. I agree..... Eat healthy during the week and then live it up a little on the weekend:) Works for me.
I subscribed to your channel because I love the way you work. Quick and easy whiteout rambeling about the food itself. And are just full of joy and happiness. Keep up the good work, you deserve more subscribers. Xx
The Domestic Geek Question : what size mason jars did you use for the salad? and salad dressing? Doing food shopping soon and gonna try these for the week ahead. Thanks
I have recently embarked on a gluten free lifestyle and have tried the strawberry one and green bean chickpea one. Quite delicious! Cant wait to try the others!
The Domestic Geek for tomorrow I'm having the Greek salad, and my wife is having the Protein Packed salad, Please keep up these fantastic, inventive meals we love them, and have been telling all our friends here in the UK, Big thumbs up from us

I love all the salads featured in this video, and you can bet that I'll be making all of them. Thank you for making it easy to do and so visually appealing. I can't wait to try them all!!!!!
Hey, I just found your channel and had to subscribe RIGHT AWAY! I love how this is such a healthy recipe and you're still easy going on store bought stuff / the chocolate in the over night oats. I feel like many people doing (healthy) food videos on YT nowadays are sooo strict on their diets and their way to do it. I do want to eat as healthy as possible but it still should be very practicable for me as a person working all week.
Die Trixi Hi! I couldn't agree more...I find eating healthy is a lot easier if the foods are accessible and easy to find. My version of healthy means eating whole foods without a lot of processing. I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos! Stay tuned because we have some tasty snack ideas coming soon.
I am a new subscriber and love your salads.. I was looking for some good looking healthy salad combos.. Coz first you feed your eyes with all that beautiful color and that gives you an appetite to eat it.. Yummy will try them soon
Even now, I still come back to these recipes to make them ❤️😁 7 years later!!

Colette, rinse after you cut them. I learned this from my Mexican Mother-in-law. Great trick, works well.
They will have already made me cry..lol!!
If you keep them in the refrigerator first they won't be as bad. Also white onions aren't has bad with the tears as yellow onions.
+John Snediker Yeah, but you rinse away taste and nutrients. Rinse before and you won't get the dirt and/or pesticides/wax inside the veg and fruit.

Not a good idea to mix it up when you make it to store in the fridge, that defeats the purpose of layering ingredients to keep them fresh, especially of you use lettuce or other greens.

Oh yesss salads
"I'm a firm believer that lettuce is just filler"
Say whaaaaaa
Aline Laura lettuce has almost no nutritional value, use some other greens like spinach or kale instead :)
But I like the taste of lettuce :(
You can eat it, it contains vitamine C that helps you absorbe vitamines of other foods you're eating with the salad
then eat lettuce. These are great ideas but it's not a law you have to follow, you can swap some stuff out. I am a lettuce fiend and when I make these jars, I just replace my least favorite veggie with butter lettuce and it's still delicious!
it is, try kale, spinach, chard, red cabbage. Lettuce has not many nutritional value
Thank you so much for these amazing recipes!! I'm a super picky eater and u have helped me out so much! I especially love you healthy recipes!!!
Megan May Hi Megan! So glad you're loving the recipes :)
It looks pretty but difficult to eat from a jar
We will just be getting 1 item by 1
No* the fuck is wrong with me
when you are ready to eat, you actually shake the jar. that mix the ingredients with the dressing.
Thank you so much, your video are really inspired. That's what i want exactly!! I found so many videos only yours help work it out!

I love your ideas, i will try these soon, and as a vegetarian, i love they have protein and options. :) THANK YOU
lettuce is filler ??? seriously? ?? greens are full if nutrition and water !!!
Lorie Frankly
Actually we need to eat 3 handfuls of greens a day and when did it become a filler? I disagree on it becoming a filler.
Ah. yes but, you see, lettuce tastes like dirt.

sarojinisify You're very welcome!! I hope you enjoy them :D
Stay tuned because we have some tasty snack ideas coming soon.
i wanna thank you this all looks great , i can,t wait to try ..
