Exactly what I found with mine. First trips out with it I was a bit apprehensive that I had bought the wrong rifle...after 80 to 100 rounds "down the tube" it tightened up considerably. Now shooting around 1/2 MOA using 55 grain Z-max reloads. Good review Ozzie...honest as always!
Gday Ozzie, love you reviews mate, it wouldbe good to see a 3rd (and final) review after you've put a couple of hundred rounds through it and see if that OSA 55 gn Gameking does any better as it shot great first time round
I felt your pain/disappointment, with my new re-barreled 223, after running in the barrel as per your how to break in a barrel vid, I tried 18 different rounds (diff makes, diff weights, target/hunting/varmint) and struggling to even get close to a sub 1 inch group at 50yds the first time out....! 2nd time at the range and after roughly 200rnds it's shooting much tighter groups....1/4 inch group using the OSA 55gr Game Kings...! Loving it..!!! Haven't done any copper removal yet and I'm at 400rnds getting 1/4 inch groups using the OSA 55gr Game Kings...! Loving it..!!! Cleaning wise I just use G96 for now (maybe do copper removal after 600rnds) run patches till they come out clean and that's it..! Great to see yours is shooting great again..!!!
Mine was the same. At 100 it was OK. 200 was woefull. Was really worried it was a dog after the re-barrel. After 2-3 heat cycles and 200 rounds its back at 1/2 MOA at 200m. I was about to sell it and get a Sako 85 when i go it back it was that bad.
Hey Ozzie, Just a note, the Hornandy 75gn needs to run though a 1-8 or 1-7 twist rate, the 1-9 is designed for the 50-62gn bullets, As for being extremely high quality I just bought one a month ago and had to be returned to the factory as it would not feed using genuine mags(4 of) and using ADI ammo. very disappointed as an ex aussie solider I have relied on ADI for years
question ozzie.. did you do a copper removal clean after last time? OR did you just oily patch it and put it in the safe.. I only ask because if you did just oily patch it could it be when you shot it first time , it didnt have enough through it ? I found with my rifle I stopped copper removal till well over 500 rounds... why? because I found the first 30 or so shots would have fliers all through it until it settled down.. so now I hunt, come home throw an oily patch through and then just dry patch it out and hunt again.
@Greg Roles absolutely man checkout markandsamafterwork youtube channel.. he shoots 4000 and 5000 yards.. he says the same thing he prolly goes out to 1k rounds before he cleans em.. I mean he does rust prevention but no copper removal. Yes keep em tight the idea at least his theory is you want consistancy, so you wanna be pushing the same amount out and leaving same amount behind if that makes sense. It's not gonna get smaller and smaller it will reach a point and stay like that
Hey Ozzie I was packing it after your first video but once I got mine back it shoots the Buffalo River 55grn Blitz under half inch at 100m and about an inch at 200 so I have confidence I can still hit a roos head at its optimal 80 to 140m no wukkas
One tiny little thing which might make a difference or not? All three videos the rifle is resting with a swivel stud on the rest. First and last video it is on the rear swivel stud and the middle video it is on the front swivel stud. I would think a swivel stud catching a rest may have some impact on accuracy?
Hey Ozzie! Sorry for the off topic question, but I’m really stressing about finding a good all weather mountain rifle, would you mind giving me some guidance? - Regards, Seth.
I was 50/50 about either the Lithgow or a T3X but after watching your videos I settled for a LA102 in 223 as here in UK it's a bit different from the norm, I got it yesterday and I can't wait to get it to the range once my Titan shows up, very excited, any tips on running in a new gun?
so 2 months and 500 rds later I can confirm I got a 0.69" group at 100 yds using the cheapest ammo here in UK Norma TAC 223, I'm so happy with my Lithgow its amazing
Me dad gave me his old shotgun, it’s purdy brand. It’s got good engraving of a british fox hunt on it with shiny yellow inlays and a nice chunk of wood for the stock but it’s flamin old. He said he ain’t ever shot it. I am gunna take it on a pig hunt. Me mates said to get some slugs. Where do ya get slugs from?
Guessing 1/12 twist, I'm only a novice but wont that give a poor result for the heavier pills? My Rem 700 with 1/9 twist loves the heavier rounds (69 grain) but is a pig with 55.
I had better luck with the OSA blitzkings, well under an inch at 100. Gamekings performed pretty poorly thru mine, no difference to what Ozzie got here. I’ll save the brass and won’t be buying that again. Got a hand load sorted for it anyhow so no more factory stuff going through it.
I'm from Lithgow myself near KFC and I can hear the rifle range from here and I can hear automatic rifles. you do get some dick head with guns going down national parks you do get some Cowboys going down and shooting the Kangaroos and The Wombats. you can get six months in jail. yes they should play with the guns at the gun shooting range not to kill any wildlife. you have a good one. Penalties for harming native wildlife can be up to $11,000, six months
Exactly what I found with mine.

What reload powder etc were u using?
21.5 grains of ar2219 from memory

Great to see. To nice a looking rifle to be a safe queen.
Too
@@andrewdods2236 ffs, spelling warrior. who cares
I saw that last group and thought you were testing 12 bore chokes again :). Nice to see it back.
Great Work

Bit of a spread at 0.6 of an inch ....youre killing me Ozzie
OSA 55grain Blitzkings are the best factory round I’ve found for mine that are at a reasonable cost.
I am so glad I bought the .308 first tap on wood. And Now if they just pull their heads out of there arse and release the 6.5 I'll be happier.
That's more like it ! Seems like this rifle doesn't like the heavier bullets. But I'd say now that this is a 'keeper'

Just my usual foam bore cleaner then g96

Ozzy, stop using Inches and Yards mate ;)
NIce I was wondering if you got it to shoot properly again, thumbs up mate
Great Thanks!! Now Lithgow need to just step up and start exporting LA102 .223’s to NZ
Any chance you might review the LA102 6.5CM? interested to see where you think it fits in the market as a target/hunting rifle. great vid's though!
Hey Ozzie, have you tried the Hornady TAP 60gr - (
5:56 I see what you did there.....

bonus points for a .223 video that 5:56 long :)
Video length 5:56, please tell me you did an edit to make that happen.
What would be your personal pick of the Tikka varmint 223 or this Lithgow 223?
Guessing 1/12 twist, I'm only a novice but wont that give a poor result for the heavier pills? My Rem 700 with 1/9 twist loves the heavier rounds (69 grain) but is a pig with 55.
Lithgow is 1/9 twist
What power Schmidt and Bender is that mate, it looks quite compact
George White check the initial review mate, he covers it all there. Cheers.
Try and get your hands on a muzzle brake and try it again
Tighten them groups up soldier
Mine is back and is great.
Still sub moa at 100m
Why did you change the original barrel?
Barrels were recalled by Lithgow because they were faulty.
They had a recall. Credit to Lithgow they were very proactive
Recalled the 223 and 243. The 308's were OK.
Try osa buffalo river my mates T3 loves it!
He did. Clearly said he shot the OSA 55gr Gamekings.
