just want to say thanks for the Olfa knife recommendation. I ended up buying the same model you use (although sadly not through your affiliate store since I'm in the EU...). I've only had it a couple of weeks and it it, by far, the best knife of this sort I've ever used. Not even my dad's ancient all steel Stanley one compares for comfort and ease of use (never mind the fantastic Olfa blades themselves).

Here's another way to add rust and paint stripping effects. It's called Salt painting, I see it a lot of post apoc' style build, mostly Gaslands cars.. Basically after your base coat, and rust color coat, you wet the object your going to paint and pinch Salt right onto the object, let dry and then paint another colors your want over top. Then peel off the bumps(the salt) and the rust color is show through.

Master level build and ingenious use of dollar tanks... your use of super glue and baking soda came in handy from previous builds - I broke my glasses last week (metal frame) and used the "crafting technique" to repair them, my wife was amazed as the skill paid off bonding them like I had welded them. I explained that I learned it on Black Magic Craft and she laughed, but they have held up now for over a week and she is now a believer - thanks Jeremy.

On a serious note I have used those balloon lights in the past. They would have been perfect for something like this. A small capsule with a stick of piece of plastic secured to it. Fit the capsule with the light at the top of the barrel and twist the stick to turn it on and off. The paint job on this looked Amazing. I have always avoided sci fi / future stuff to manage my collection but this really make me interested in trying something similar.

And as for the paints, let me direct you to th-cam.com/video/K-6LSGzoZSM/w-d-xo.html. Here, BMC explains where you can get paints that will get the job done for relatively inexpensive.

      1) The acrylics he uses the most ARE from the dollar store. I'm a professional artist and I use dollar store quality acrylics for the vast majority of my painting projects.
      2) With enough effort you COULD make miniatures from dollar store stuff (or at least materials under $10). Creatives, uh... find a way
      3) I don't even play D&D - I just love the creativity of the builds. These are tips I can incorporate into other projects elsewhere.

For built up crusty rust with real texture on a plastic model, apply liquid styrene cement in a puddle over the area you want, then apply rusty chalks atop it. Once dried, it will have that really good texture bonded to the plastic. Need more? Do it again right on top of the existing patch. You can pile it on heavily and it will be scabbed up quite nicely.
Model railroaders have been doing this for decades- we know all about weathering for effects.

But really when scratch building, things like that tank that have dense detail really help bulk out detail. Another option (and would stretch your scavenged bits even further) is to cut out smaller panels and add to stuff for all manner of surface details. I'm still hoping to thrift another 1:32 scale model train kit, that thing is still supplying parts 5 years later.

The dollar-store inventories change all the time.
    There are seasonal changes.
And they gradually add items to their inventory.
So you have to keep going back to see what they've got.

This is the coolest idea I've seen in a while. I live in toronto and there is a Dollarama across the parking lot in my building, I was able to find the exact same tanks.
I can't wait to tear into these, super inspiring, thanks a lot!

    That..was...AWESOME!
This fits right into my Gaslands theme, so I will be on the lookout for huge ass tanks (and other stuff I never considered looking at before)
    Well done, sir. Well done.

Another amazing video and amazing build!!! Can you do a video about simple mini led lighting and wiring using dollar store tea lights? Either simple or flickering lights with the little circuit board. I've watched a bunch of videos but the way you explain things is so much better to understand 😎

Black primer was the right one to use for metallic. Grey would have made it look wrong.

Good to see you getting into working with the LED lights. I still hate working with them too. Once you get them to work for you it’s all worth it. I hope to get to a video that I want to make with LEDS

“As if people.. don’t.. own scissors” 😂😂😂 that’s true it doesn’t matter what you get because pretty much every dollar store is different anyways. You should try doing like a cheap eBay challenge that could be cool!

I hear you on the perils of the olfa knife. When doing sketchy cutting, I typically wear a cutting glove. It's saved my thumb and the web between the forefinger & thumb. Some of the most fun I've had building models is kitbashes or scratch builds.
Cool video. You actually gave me a couple of really cool ideas. 🤓👍👍

Speaking of Vallejo metallics, you should SINCERLY try the Vallejo metal colors. They are the best metallics I've found. They're thin, have a smaller and higher quality pigment than other metallics, have amazing flow, and go through an airbrush like butter. Freaking awesome paint. They come in big pots, too. 32 ml.

You've probably already used that third tank for something, but if you haven't, I would love to see you doctor it up to be something else. Actually, I'd love to see you grab a couple more and then doctor them up in different ways - for example; a "looted" vehicle all 40K Ork or Mad Max, a "high tech" vehicle suitable for 40K Space Marines or some future-faction, and a "gritty poor bloody infantry" vehicle which was very practically militarily, but not messy / ramshackle and not all hyper-future.
