    When you where taking about participating to spray foam you reminded me of how I react when people say they can't paint, draw, craft. If you want to be good at something you have to practice, people aren't born with the ability to cut foam straight or draw perfect circles. Not every try will result in perfection but it is worth persevering.❤️

When you cut away to say "this would later be ripped off" it felt so bizarre, like why not just say that, why cut away? Awesome build. It looks amazing and I like that you took inspiration from the miniatures.
    I find that when I’m running a game is when I find I need something new for my table. Which is good to inspire, but I don’t want to build things that are game specific, and I couldn’t use in too many other situations.
    Buildings, however are a lot more flexible.
    I wanted to comment because I remembered something from back when I was in school, and I would build with my legos to make towns and such.
    I started to run out of ideas and made repetitive styles of buildings. Then I looked at some buildings from my favorite game at the time. (Elder Scrolls 3)
    With this, I started recreating things from the game into my other hobby with somewhat of a twist. So if you’re ever in need for some awesome visual inspiration, games like that definitely helped me out with the need to try something new and gave me a fresh look at things.
    Keep on crafting. Love your work

    That cottage looks fantastic and that was with a *mistake* in nearly every piece of the build - amazing. Sooner or later, I really will have to try one of these builds - it will be tricky getting foam, probably needs to be an online buy. That's one disadvantage of living in the middle of nowhere; even a tube of paint is tricky.
    Good Luck with this COPPA nonsense. I really think you should be OK; some other hobbies are much more likely to be classed as "aimed at kids".👍

    • @cycoholic
      @cycoholic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just use foamboard or foamcore, whatever they call it in your area. I've used foamboard, balsa and cardboard as my main construction materials. Even won £50 in a UK terrain contest for the Fallout Wasteland Warfare miniatures game, using only those materials.
      😉

    • @2H80vids
      @2H80vids 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cycoholic Cardboard, I can manage - I eat cornflakes.👍 Anything else, balsa, foamboard, paints etc means a 5 hour return train journey to Inverness and taxis to B+Q and back from the station. Do-able of course but a pain in the bits. And, of course, when you get there, "We're out of stock. It should be in tomorrow." Happens every time.😀
      I'm well used to it though and eBay/Amazon are your friends.👍

    • @cycoholic
      @cycoholic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2H80vids You certainly are out in the sticks! You certainly can get what you need through ebay and amazon. I use thick cardboard for the bases, think it's about 4 mm thick. I get that on ebay myself. I know you can get foamboard in different sizes these days, you should be able to find someone selling a pack of it in say 1 foot squares. Would be far easier to ship than a single large sheet of rhe stuff. If not, see if they'll cut it down in size for you. I also recently found someone on ebay selling sheets of the same sort of foam that BMC uses to build terrain, but they're here in Australia. Maybe you could find someone doing the same closer to home if you want to go down that route.
      😉

    • @2H80vids
      @2H80vids 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cycoholic Yep, I think that's the plan. I've built up quite a collection of stuff from packaging etc which might get me started though. That way, I can maybe see what I like working with before commiting to an actual order. I watch a lot of TH-cam channels and I've picked up a load of tips. I reckon a lot of folk overthink this stuff and I like the way Jeremy adapts his builds to what he has available.

    • @cycoholic
      @cycoholic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2H80vids Totally! Start off small and work with what you have at hand or cheap and inexpensive. Work out if you enjoy the hobby and then if so you can up your commitment. Main thing is do what you enjoy at a level you can afford. There is no need to go the foam and hotwire route that Jeremy has. After tinkering with card and foamboard, see if you can get some samples of the foam he uses and try building with that. I'm about to give that a go. And if you like using that type of foam construction, you can always save up for a proxxon hotwire. I recently found an official proxxo outlet not far from my place here in Australia. They don't list the hotwire cutter on their site, they seem to be more on the industrial side. But I bet they could get one in.
      In short, start small, and with what you have at hand. And if you enjoy it, keep at it and keep practicing.
      😉👍

    StyroDur PSA for those of you in the States:
    My local big box store is Menards and I noticed an insulation board in their building materials section that is yellow in color and higher density than the big sheets of blue or pink. I don't know whether it's the same as StyroDur but it is definitely higher density and I find that it carves significantly better than the pink stuff. You can find it on their website with the SKU 1631228. It appears to be "CertiFoam" by DiversiFoam and looks like it's discontinued but there's is still a lot of stock where I am. Right now it's in 1x24x24" squares for $5.

    You're right. This is an especially pretty piece. I love the roof but all of it really. I really like that you change your paint techniques because, for me, I need variable possibilities on painting (I'm the dollhouse gal, not a gamer). So every time you do some other than the dark blacker type stuff, it gives me new ideas. In that vein, your paint jobs are beautiful--proof positive, that one or two coats just does not cut it. I find it takes minimum 3-5 layers to get really cool effects--which is, I think, about what you use. Just did an entire roof in egg carton "slate." (1600 "shingles" to hand cut.) Used maybe 5 colors on it. It looks awesome.

    that bear would be useful for my army in Bolt Actions Konflikt 47 as Wojtek the bear that assisted the polish army in World War II as a mascot and loved beer and smoking cigarettes

    Remember how you got that stucco paintjob, because it worked like a dream. Cracking build. Those factory made kits [even with the greatest paint jobs] are far too clean, especially ruins. This piece has a warmth that breathes life into it - irrespective of whatever the inhabitants get upto inside! Fun to watch & I can tell, fun to build.

    Are you dropping weight? Maybe I’m still not used to the beard being gone but you’re looking slim. Great build as always. I need to make a better effort at being willing to try new things as much as you do.

    Great looking build. Out of curiosity, is there a reason you make all your timber bits out of foam, instead of using thin planks of balsa wood? I've used balsa on some of my old models and it works pretty well. It's got a nice tight grain that drybrushes up pretty well, and you could easily use your pencil to add some deeper grain if you wanted.

    I really enjoyed this video, and the end product! Unfortunately I'm struggling to find a good supplier for easy peel foam core in the UK (especially since I've been isolating at home since March so can't go shopping). I've tried three online sellers, but all of them have been near impossible to remove the paper. If anyone reading this knows of an online supplier please let me know!

    sometimes you have to do something the wrong way intentionally to support the "better way" that you know of, a. just in case it ends up being better and b. to enforce your understanding of what 'wrong' looks like.

    This is an awesome looking little house. You did a great job. One small part bothers me though. The part where you cut off part of the door frame, because a piece of 'wood' was going across the side of the house where the door was going. That just looks odd, you should not have cut the door frame. Another thing is that at the end of the video, I would have liked to see a slow shot, going around, showing the entire, completed, house. Other than that, great video 👍

    I couldn't help it; the two mini-rants in the video both made me grin because sometimes that's what it takes to *really* make a point. All in all, this build was very impressive; from the detailed timber to the bronze roof, this definitely has a Dwarven feel to it. Using the wrought iron fences as both roof decorations and porch railings was a great choice since it helps sell the somewhat eclectic nature of the house. As for the windows, live and learn; although I will say that, looking at the analogous time period that most fantasy settings are based on, it was quite common for panes of glass to have bubbles and defects so in the end, even though you didn't intend it I say it adds a little touch of realism.

    Water-based spray paints are a thing and have changed how I use foam. Check out Montana for a line of water-based cans with good coverage.

    How do you decide how big/small to make the buildings? For some reason, they seem soo small. I fear once i get started Id make mine gigantic by comparison. Is there a reason their small?

    The minis look great. The monster queen could very well be used as a zombie giant. A little disappointed with the bear; I would prefer a rougher texture for the fur which would help hide the areas where pieces connect to each other.
    The house looks great - as they always do - but I would prefer the roof to be a little more red, or the wood to be more brown to make it easier to separate the two colors.

    If it ever helps for future reference with the direction of the "corrugated metal" they always go vertical on a roof to allow rain and snow to flow off. But Obviously your builds are fantasy and have an artistic element to them and don't have to imitate real life.
