In B4 "shoulda made trapdoors functional" comments....didn't want to, that would really be pretty pointless ;P Hope you guys enjoyed this vid, and I hope it helps all those asking about doing wood texture on foam. If you wanna pick up some tools & supplies to tackle this build don't forget you can help out the channel in the process by grabbing stuff via my essential equipment links: bit.ly/EssentialEquip
Pointlessly awesome, you mean! Just kidding, way too much work for practically no payoff, and would probably make the whole thing far too fragile for actual (or at least, repeated) use.
OK, so that's a no on the trapdoors, but why do the condemned have their weapons drawn. Surely they should be disarmed with their hands tied behind their backs. 2/7 literally unusable, the wood texturing is nice though.
I'm not going to spoil things and let you know I made a guillotine video for next week............but if I were to do something like that, I'd have the same mindset, that making it function would be pointless for game purposes so I wouldn't bother.....not that I've done this or anything....nope. Stay tuned for next friday's episode, it will be a TOTAL surprise.
THANK YOU for steering away from brown wood! Your dark brown wood is the only thing you do that I found annoying, so I literally cheered when you stopped the video to go outside and check out the fence boards. Lovely work as always. For not being a knot guy your nooses aren't bad at all.
I recommend for weathered looks, especially in wood, to use more greens in a base coat! Humidity and mold tends to green things over time, especially wood. These vids are super inspiring and makes me even more excited to world build for dnd!
Just wanted to say thanks for introducing me to this hobby, especially crafting with foam. Been having a blast so far crafting all sorts of things and it made DnD so much more fun.
I first saw your custom dragon build, after that I subscribed and started watching the tutorials from ep 1. Maybe 3 weeks in and I'm at this episode...
I love this channel! Always very creative and funny. I can’t craft and I don’t even play dnd right now but is it weird I like to watch this before bed since it’s so relaxing?
Knuckle Joe I don’t listen to rain asmr much, but curling up with a blanket during a storm is one of my favorite things for sure. I weirdly enough like the thunder too lol
Even though ive seen all your old videos, I still enjoy how you recap on the process of your builds. Great looking work. Another great video. Thanks for posting.
The absolute first time i see someone to (rightfully) complain about "Just-Brown" Wood. Truly awesome Paintjob. And thanks for your Channel, you helped me getting started in this hobby :)
The wood looks absolutely fantastic. I do really appreciate your effort in trying to produce more realistic wood. This method will be my guide from now on.
Great entrance drop... also just a great video. I liked the more behind the scene adds, but also just how well this project turned out. Definitely copying this!
Your video editing keeps getting better and better! Pulling away from the video to you editing the clip was a SNAPPY way to segway from the build to engaging your viewers directly. Awesome work! And as always... keep crafting!
Very good coverage on the basics of "woodwork". I have gotten very good results on finishing by using a brown rather than black mod podge base. I use Apple Barrel Brown Oxide. A 1 part paint to 2 parts 'podge gives a nice medium brown undertone.
If you want to skip the trap door(s) on your tree, set the beam a bit higher so there is room for the barrels/stools that the hangman will kick out from under your minis' feet.
Jeremy great job again!!! I was wondering if you could do a video of all the game pieces you made for your gaming table, “All the items on your Shelves!!” Behind you when you make your videos!!
Just found your videos and i have no life them and watched them all. I even went to your suggestion for supplies and bought everything. Just waiting for the stuff to come in to get to building.
To make a noose for miniatures I use a small jig I made with some MDF board and two finishing nails. Just hammer in the nails enough to hold and as far apart as you need the noose and wraps. From here there's two ways of doing it. The first and easiest way for those that aren't good with knots is a simple overhand knot. Make sure that the knot is at the back side of one of the nails, now cut off a length of the twine and wrap in up to 13 times between the two nails and glue the ends to the wrap and cut off any extra from the ends. I use superglue on the end of a toothpick for this so it can slide up and down freely for now. Now loosen the overhand knot so you can take it off the nails. Slide the wrap to the knot or tighten the not till you have the right size loop you need and glue the wrap to the knot. This will stop it from sliding off and it will look like an actual hangman's noose. The second way. Like the first coil the twine between the two nails, only if you know how to make a hangman's noose, and on the back coiling (going back towards the noose loop) and make your 13 wraps and finish as you would for a noose. Once done carefully slide the noose off the nails and feed the tail of the twine through the loop on that end and lightly pull the loop at the other end to tighten the noose not and done. You can adjust the loop to the size you need at this point and use glue, superglue or pva or whatever you prefer to lock it in place. Maybe I should be making videos on how to do all these small detail pieces. Don't have the right camera or much time really to do them though. So I will just give my advice when and where I can I guess.
Looks great! After building your (really cool) Goblin barricades I'm planning to build a wooden watchtower and would love to see any "light" wooden structures in the future. Thanks your videos!
I love the fact that I get to see these early. I thank you for the effort that goes into each one. I like the new color idea for the painting of the wood. Now to practice the dry brushing (practice, practice, practice )..lol
The other thing about seeing the videos a bit early on patreon is that you can get a head start on making your own if you want. Then you can post your build in the group right after the video launches and leave people wondering how you built it so fast!
this is sooooo good, bro! I'm blown away by the crazy detail - it looks so real. I'm going to make a guillotine and I love how your base looks. Amazing!!!! thank you for all your time and hard work. #inspiring
Another great video, Jeremy. I've once again been inspired to get to work on actually making things, haha. Sometimes I really just need this kind of jump start, so thanks for that. Cheers!
black magic craft killing it with the crafting content! if there was anything I could find to gripe about would be to add some green tint at the bottom but otherwise the wood color technique looks a lot better than the "tar covered" | "railroad ties" coloring.
I thought about that, but didn't want it to look THAT dilapidated. If you were doing an abandoned cottage or something, this paint technique would look great with some green wash stippling near the ground.
Yeah I noticed you were doing it on stone but the idea was stuck in my head since you pointed to your wooden fence. None the less I have always been a fan of the brighter wood since I live in Texas and we use pine here and it is yellow. I have no idea why the norm is dark brown.
I'm doing exactly that I saw two of your videos and I decided to start from the beginning and watch forward .... I've been on it for the last 2 days and I'm still behind by a year
@4:00 Food for thought - Medieval lumber should probably be mostly radially split. In split lumber, the end grain should be pretty much the same direction on every board.
WOW! there is a big step up in this video. I love that you went outside to take real wood reference, the crafting community needs more of that. Also, maybe this shows potential for vlog-style videos? :D
I've actually started doing some vlog and behind the scenes videos for my Patreon supporters. Mostly focused on game session recaps, terrain set ups, but also the odd shopping haul. It's still a new thing, but it will be making it's way into the tutorial videos to break them up a bit with some interesting stuff. ....the channel has completely taken over all my creative efforts. As of now I havn't touched music production in years. Maybe one day I'll jump back in, but for now I'm satisfied putting my effort into videos.
good call for patreon. time for me to subscribe. As for music, I totally understand, your channel is so good and always getting better, I bet it takes so much energy!
LOL, I watched this specifically to see what clever hack you found to make miniature noose. Well at least I do not feel as bad that I cannot make them easily.
Have you tried using small lead shot in the knots to make the rope hang better I embed plastic skulls with it to make them hang better on chains if that makes sense
love these videos, really want to get into the hobby but I don't have a dnd group so it would never be used... might try to copy one of your simpler builds soon though, just for fun!
just sub'ed, this was a great build. how about for a future build a tomb surrounded by a grave yard with skeletons coming out of the graves.(if you have not already done it)
As always great video! I like your clear coat. I have been using that on miniatures for a while. I am still afraid of it eating the foam. For now I'll stick with the minwax for foam projects.
Minwax is the safe bet. Ive tested this stuff on raw foam and had no issue, so I'm not concerned about using it on a finished piece. But I'll be testing each new can just incase until I'm %100 confident in the product.
In B4 "shoulda made trapdoors functional" comments....didn't want to, that would really be pretty pointless ;P

Pointlessly awesome, you mean! Just kidding, way too much work for practically no payoff, and would probably make the whole thing far too fragile for actual (or at least, repeated) use.
Ok what about making a working mini guillotine
Definitely more plausible
OK, so that's a no on the trapdoors, but why do the condemned have their weapons drawn. Surely they should be disarmed with their hands tied behind their backs.
2/7 literally unusable, the wood texturing is nice though.
Ian you could actually make one out of a hobby knife blade, but then it may be dangerous
I'm not going to spoil things and let you know I made a guillotine video for next week............but if I were to do something like that, I'd have the same mindset, that making it function would be pointless for game purposes so I wouldn't bother.....not that I've done this or anything....nope. That wood coloring is amazing!
You are a true artist and knowledgeable teacher. Thankful for your back catalog. Slowly working my way through it.
I recommend for weathered looks, especially in wood, to use more greens in a base coat! Humidity and mold tends to green things over time, especially wood. These vids are super inspiring and makes me even more excited to world build for dnd!
More excellent foamsmithing.
New People......Seriously, dig into the back catalog of videos.....it is so worth it!!!!
But then they can't ask me question's I've answered 200 times already! :P Thanks for watching :)
I love this channel! Always very creative and funny. I can’t craft and I don’t even play dnd right now but is it weird I like to watch this before bed since it’s so relaxing?
I watch asmr videos every night to go to sleep.....mostly of people colouring or unboxing things....so no, not weird at all :D
Black Magic Craft yeah, I watch asmr sometimes too. I have insomnia so thanks for putting out videos to help :)
Mackenna Caren I have insomnia as well, I always play rain videos! Or something like a podcast that’s really chilled out.
Killer wood paint job! Very convincing.
I come back to this video for wood inspiration every time I need to paint it
The absolute first time i see someone to (rightfully) complain about "Just-Brown" Wood. Truly awesome Paintjob. And thanks for your Channel, you helped me getting started in this hobby :)
This looks great! The weathering is epic!
This is one of my favorite of your builds!
Wire brush is genius! Love it 😀
Simple and effective!
The wood looks absolutely fantastic. I do really appreciate your effort in trying to produce more realistic wood. This method will be my guide from now on.
This is the first video of yours that I watched over a year ago. Thanks for continuing to make amazing content!
nice addition to any DM's terrain. Also thanks for the extra content you posted the other day. Much appreciated.
you are a true artist my friend
Ok, I heard people talking about this video on the Facebook page. I am so happy that I finally had time to watch
Holy crap this is insane!!! Amazing!!!
Great entrance drop... also just a great video. I liked the more behind the scene adds, but also just how well this project turned out. Definitely copying this!
Thank you!
best gallows tutorial, and build, I've seen in very long time. great work.
Your video editing keeps getting better and better! Pulling away from the video to you editing the clip was a SNAPPY way to segway from the build to engaging your viewers directly. Awesome work! And as always... keep crafting!
I'm so glad that you didn't get all 'hung up' about the whole situation!
LOVING the white 'Yorkshire Rose' on your T Shirt!
I arrived late to this channel… and have watched episode 1 to 101.
Thank you!
I'm working on that right now too
So awesome dude, can’t wait to make one

Beautiful yard!
Just found your videos and i have no life them and watched them all. I even went to your suggestion for supplies and bought everything. Just waiting for the stuff to come in to get to building.
This is incredible man love how it turned out
Thank you thank you thank you for the informative and inspiring video. I can't get enough of your channel
Man I really enjoy your terrain and crafting vids.
wow ! congratulations from Prague !!!!
Another awesome build.
I'm impressed that you observed real life examples (back yard fence) to improve your builds. Great.
The paint job for the wood looks really great, good work!
Beautiful work man. And loving the new music throughout.
Thank you!
Damn man.... You are such a pro !
Incredible, i need one of this for my next session! Thanks, perfect timing!
You're a genius. I appreciate the videos.
I always enjoy these videos, but this one was really cool.
I do like the colour scheme. Very nice
I love this. Stuff that I can use with my paper maps are ALWAYS going to get made. Thanks!!!
Another big build, I respect that.
Well done. 👏👏👏
That wood looks outstanding! I'll definitely be trying your painting method in future.
To help make nooses, use something like a toothpick while wrapping your loops and remove it after you start to tighten it.
thanks for providing the links to get the materials

Fun build! If you look at ships and fishing villages I think they might have had a lot of other rope built decorative bits.
That's so cool!!!!!
Looks great! After building your (really cool) Goblin barricades I'm planning to build a wooden watchtower and would love to see any "light" wooden structures in the future. Thanks your videos!
Just finished my own single-person-hanging-gallows lasts week, cool to see your take on it. Love the build :-)
Nice!
Fabulous tutorial
Amazing video! Thank you so much.

Love 8:43 , matching actual weathered wood
Great result
Thank you jeremy. This will be a tremendous help when i start building my docks.
Oh yea, this is essentially just a dock build.
Dude... beautiful build!
this is sooooo good, bro! I'm blown away by the crazy detail - it looks so real. I'm going to make a guillotine and I love how your base looks. Amazing!!!! thank you for all your time and hard work. #inspiring
OMG, those details are amazing! Great piece! I'm so happy i found your channel! 😘
that is beautiful. I wanna try one.
Awesome vid as always :D
great interlude! Love it! :)
Outstanding!
Another great video. Love the music too and new angle views
Thanks Andrew
have been watching ur channel for less than a week, havent watched how to make wood grain yet..............oooffff
Another great video, Jeremy. I've once again been inspired to get to work on actually making things, haha. Sometimes I really just need this kind of jump start, so thanks for that. Cheers!
Dude, you are amazing!
Lovely!
Applause to the dry brushing, so fucking beautiful!!! :D

2:07 "I bet you really loved that mixing of metric and imperial measurements"
As a fellow Canadian, I didn't even notice.
Yea bud
At least you were able to FIND the gear looking piece after it shot out of the pliers! :D
I was pretty surprised to find it honestly.
I'm.digging into the back catalogue right now lol
WOW! there is a big step up in this video. I love that you went outside to take real wood reference, the crafting community needs more of that. Also, maybe this shows potential for vlog-style videos? :D
also, seeing your nice editing setup I'm wondering where you're at with your music projects. I liked distorted memory

Thanks so much for the support!
Im gettin crazy vsauce vides off your intros man ha, great vid.
That Death tarot card shirt on the gallows video though.
#details #extraeffort #sealthedeal
I suppose The Hanged Man would have been too on the nose.
Nah, if I had that shirt, you know I'd be doing it.
Where'd you get the Death one btw?
www.redbubble.com......which is the answer for %99 of the shirts I wear in videos.
I love the paint job! The brown wood and grey stone drives me nuts! I much prefer a more realistic look. Great project.
Yea beige seems to be much better for both wood and stone!
so badass
LOL, I watched this specifically to see what clever hack you found to make miniature noose. Well at least I do not feel as bad that I cannot make them easily.
a sweet model
Have you tried using small lead shot in the knots to make the rope hang better I embed plastic skulls with it to make them hang better on chains if that makes sense
I love set up
Awesome.
love these videos, really want to get into the hobby but I don't have a dnd group so it would never be used... might try to copy one of your simpler builds soon though, just for fun!
With Eberron being out, have you considered doing a lightning rail or airship build?
I'm gonna be honest, I won't even look at that Eberron stuff.
just sub'ed, this was a great build. how about for a future build a tomb surrounded by a grave yard with skeletons coming out of the graves.(if you have not already done it)
My first thought was he made a video dedicated to me, GALLOWAY! I'm not a hangman but a cool build nevertheless. 👍
Just for you man, just for you.
As always great video! I like your clear coat. I have been using that on miniatures for a while. I am still afraid of it eating the foam. For now I'll stick with the minwax for foam projects.
