    Honestly… his son is the sole owner of the legacy. Its an insult to all artists that struggle and to all those that just want to deliver a message of hope to others.

      They said the same about Ted Bundy until we all find the truth. Not saying Bob is close to Ted. Just, you don't know people unless you KNOW them. I'm sure no one here knew Bob personally. I respect Bob as much as the next person but wouldn't put anything past ANYONE.

    My dad was an artist. He would read and watch other painters. Every artist does. Bob wanted you to...he sold kits to get you started...had a tv show. Its still his work. His own style. Noone can perfectly copy another person. His son was a mess with drugs for a while.😮 Dont know how that all turned out. At the end of the day...Bob Ross was loved by many many people. RIP

    His son should own his legacy. Also happy birthday Bob!

  • @barnacles62
    @barnacles62 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Its two sides to the story. He tried while he was alive to get his son to start on the show and come behind him. He didn't want to, and I read once his son had a terrible drug habit, which was why the Kowalskis started ruling with an iron fist, so his son didn't try to take everything they all had built and threw it all away to drugs. In the documentary it implies that Ross was having an affair with Kowalski, and that Bob left his name to his son, but being what they called young and irresponsible, he put his brother as 51% and he signed it over to the Kowalskis. His son said it was because he was tricked, I think he was paid, and did it because he saw Rosses son wasting it all. Now there is no real proof to any of this, but knowing people as they are, it would not surprise me at all. Ross influenced a lot of people to get into art, me included. However, even though you may have seen the footage of Bill Alexander handing the almighty brush over to Ross, if you watch his episodes, taped way before Ross, you hear the slang happy little clouds etc. Alexander was actually a better painter until the end of Rosses career. But Ross and Alexander were not really that chummy, Bill stated that Ross betrayed him, by putting a patent on the way they did wet on wet, which Bill had taught Ross how to do. Between that and even stealing his sayings, Bill felt very betrayed. I never knew or realized this was true out of Bob, but if you watch Bill which was taped before Bob, you'll see and hear the styles very similar, except for Bill could be aggressive, and had a very thick German accent, where ross developed a very soft kind way on the show. I honestly think Bob Ross meant the right intentions and found painting to be his life. What he did to Bill was like many singers have done to other singers, they stole the song, it became popular and ticked the other singer off. A good example of this was Hound Dog by Elvis it was really sang by Big Mamma Thornton but was made more popular by Elvis. He got monetary reward for it, she did not. Seems unfair, but in the same breath, you can't help it if one person is admired more than others. It's also a good reason to have lawyers guide you if you start making good money. I think the Kowalskis were business people. I think to them it was always about making money, and as far as Bobs son, he was given a chance to have owned it all, had he put the determination and work in it as Bob did. He is still an artist, and he can't really use the Bob Ross name, but i don't know how they could ever stop him from saying he was Bobs son. That alone could help him start a line of his own. I'd bet Bob would have wanted him to, despite what the name was....

      I don’t know how this works but maybe you can help me out. Hound dog was written by Mike Stoller and Jerry Lieber but big mama still has to get paid royalties even though she doesn’t own the song because she wasn’t the one who wrote it? I know a lot of other artists sang hound dog, not just big mama and Elvis. But it looks to me that she was the one who recorded it first before anyone else so she gets paid royalties even though she didn’t write it? I assumed the writers get paid more than the artists who sang their songs? Since Mike Stoller and Jerry Lieber wrote the song doesn’t all the royalties go to them and not big mama? Or she still get some royalties because she sang it first?

    • @barnacles62
      @barnacles62 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NC1195_ One, the song writers will get royalties if they have patented the song then sold rights to use it by whatever label pays. Thats all in how the business was done. Two, Big Mama Thornton may not have written the song, many singers don't, but my point was two things, racism at the time would influence how big black artists got. Black population as whole was only around 10% at that time, whites were 90%, and they ruled what and how in the country. Two, despite all that, Elvis had a very tremendous voice, and with the new wave of rock and roll as well as TV hitting the public, he was a God tom most every teen and even elders. I have always liked to say that the original can never be overtook, but that`s art, it's in the eye of the beholder. Point is, when things like business are intertwined with things like art, its not always fair, or what's right, it just is what it is.....

      @@barnacles62 back then radio stations most of the time didn’t play black music on the radio. They always played white artists music. Which is why big mama didn’t get any recognition for it.

    • @barnacles62
      @barnacles62 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NC1195_ Correct. Ironically though, all American music is black based from slave and black gospel, blues, and rock, even ragtime and big band were all started by blacks, used by whites that were given the recognition for it. Example is the Carter scratch supposedly made up by Maybelle Carter, when in all actuality she learned it from black performers in the area, and it was mainly taught to her by a man named Lesley Riddle, a black man that made the Carter family what they were. She was talented, they all were. But Riddles influence made them what they were, however, they got all the fame being white...
