my roommate described the Alan Wake AI experiment as the "Large Alan Model" and it puts me into a giggling fit every time imagining FBC scientists sitting around going "what if we invented Alan Wake...but Bigger???"
Loved the realization I had when one of the subjects that FBC kidnapped and experimented with is the musician who sings multiple chapter ending songs from Alan's chapters in The Dark Place. Which just makes me hope we'll get to continue Alan's story since it makes me wonder just how deep the Dark Place goes and the forms it can take given that there are now multiple different creative minds trapped there (Her, Zane, Darling, who knows who else)
The musician in question is the real world artist Poe, who due to getting screwed over by legal bullshit by both her label and her manager has not released any new music in around 20 years, until "This Road" from the main game and "Six Deep Breaths" from this. One of the links on the note you find about her (the Siren Society one) takes you to a site that lets you sign up to a Poe mailing list. I think it's just meant to be a fun, tongue-in-cheek way to announce that she's finally free from all the crap she was put through and is going to start releasing new stuff soon. Also a fun fact, she's the sister of Mark Z. Danielewski, the author of House of Leaves, which was a major inspiration for the Oldest House! (And other Remedy stuff in general)
To be fair, Dylan's portrayal in Control made it feel like he went completely bald from the stress of experiencing and being possessed by so much supernatural stuff. That's usually a go-to if you're not going to make a character's hair turn white. So Pat probably thought that trait was baked into Dylan's design.
Going through this made me realize that I preferred Control over Alan Wake. I love this type of paranormal writing where it’s more about the study of the weird bs rather than just being “afraid” of it. Mad science going too far with powers they can’t control.
i love the bit with ed he such a corny hack but he is so earnest and he is really trying his best to be as creative as he can while contained by the FBC being forced to make content its making fun of the dorky workshop writer/artist but he is still a artist trying his best
I also adore and think it’s very telling about Remedy’s feelings on art that despite being such a dorky hack, he still provides more value to the Darkness (and by proxy the FBC) than the hundreds of algorithm typewriters, because despite everything he’s still a REAL artist
@@SecondOmegayeah i feel that was my direct reading when i stumbled upon it and remembered the main game. with him and his partner and how in some notes they say he is a stage play writer who tries and cares about art but isn’t financially successful at all. but then his partner is a person who i would think loves art but is so much more cynical and shrewder and knows how to make plays financial successes. i felt that was really telling ed the more dedicated annoying hack artist. that definitely feels like sam lake and the others at remedy poking fun at themselves and the partner who is a artist second but a businesswoman first.
i wouldn't say there's a lot of hate for it, but i've seen a lot of complaints about it being merely a control 2 teaser and nothing else which is just so reductive, disingenuous, and straight up not true
The only thing I didn't like was the terrible final boss and how abrupt it just ends. Like it felt there was something missing in the final act to give it a satisfying conclusion.
I saw complaints that it was too hard but upon closer inspection people were actually experiencing really weird bugs where the Painted enemies speed out of the walls at ludicrous speed and I get that. I didn't experience it tho so my experience was excellent and I'm excited to play it again from within a new playthrough like the Night Springs levels
People were hating on it? I'd think this one is like a great Remedy/Alan Wake lore fest. Ending was abrupt, would have liked a lil more, but overall pretty cool and creative.
Only thing I hate is the paint enemies who can just literally spawn on top of you in the middle of an unblockable command grab which takes off half your health, no exception. Was really digging the DLC until the late game when they are a facility wide threat. Had a couple spawn out of unpainted walls which really pissed me off. Pet peeve I know but kinda ruined the final 3rd of the dlc for me.
2:02:45 nah, that's cut through, corners and mid-sides were marked and bored through in order to get the blade through the wall and cut between the boreholes, pretty typical way to cut through a concrete, cement, or stone wall
I can understand French and speak a little, and I have never heard an accent like Pat's, which I'd have to assume is quebecois(obviously). It sounds so strange like a California surfer boy could speak french. the; Oui, es toi. Oui, il peut; 2:55:00 .., 2:55:11 the Oui sounds like Why instead of We, I gotta hear Pat speak french more, its always nice to hear, when he does but i've never noticed it sounding like it does.
I know we all love Darling, but if the Marmonts are reflective of his hiring/staffing practices, then HOLY SHIT is it a good thing he is out of the picture. While the narrative of Control merely states that the whole Darling/Trench regime was deeply irresponsible, man do they fucking show you here.
I'm curious as to why the FBC feels the need to mimic the architecture and no "smart" tech rule of the Oldest House in their research facilities. Both the architecture and no smart tech rule are quirks of the Oldest House being kind of an entity all its own. Why mimic that in your independent facilities?
Funny how sterling created so many memes that became waaaaay more popular than him Ie: It's always morally correct to pirate nintendo games and the word Chungus
PAT IS STUCK THERE ON PATHFINDER OH NOOOO It's rough cause it takes a bit to start back and dropping the game for a while means you just should restart...
I really hope future games address to what degree is Alan directly responsible for the all the misery his abortive attempts to escape the dark place caused. It could be argued that he made the Marmonts into monsters just so he could get out.
I feel like it's VERY deliberately gonna keep that ambiguous. But also: the more direct answer is that Alan AGREED that it wasn't worth making other people's lives into horror stories for him to get out, there's a point in Alan Wake 2 where he recalls/gets told that he STOPPED WRITING for that exact reason (or something along those lines). The darkness had to use mindwipes until he forgot about stopping writing.
I'm pretty sure that video of Darling near the beginning wasnt new. I think that was just in Control at some point as one of those things you can miss during the AWE dlc.
Alan Wake 2 is one of the best stories I've ever seen. That said "as soon as I got into the elevator, my bad news detector started going nuts" gives fan fiction. But then the bad news it was detecting ends up being pretty sick so it's a wash I guess.
It says a lot about the creative side of Remedy that the wacky goofball shit in Night Springs ended up being the better DLC. This one was good, but it was much clearer this is a DLC
Some of the assholes mods banned me cuz I spilled some (political) fact about a movie chat was discussing lol the funny thing is that I almost never watch Pat's streams live therefore the same goes for me commenting
Pat being stumped that Dylan can grow hair is hilarious

Well Poe's This Road plays between most of the chapters for both characters
She’s his sister, and her second album “Haunted” is basically a House of Leaves concept album.
Pat when someone grows hair: "Who is this?"
If woolie shaved all his hair you'd think pat wouldn't recognize him

I don't understand the hate over this dlc. The only complaint I had was it was too short.

Really love how the office aesthetic this time is 80's rather than Control's 50's. Really fun detail that doesn't get touched upon.

I really enjoyed the DLC, but I do think it should have been a bit longer, like add 1 or 2 more floors to the place, maybe a little more backtracking.
19:50 this this this times infinity I've been saying this for yearssssss

@@dagdammit That's right. Good catch.

It was New, the vídeo was leaked by datamining But It is New to the dlc
It’s new but it takes place before control
I liked this dlc A LOT more than the base game.
