Remedy is honestly one of the few remaining companies that have the capability to make an AAA game without being beholden by shareholders. It's disappointing that many people don't give them a chance and cry about the current state of the gaming industry.
I tried, then realized they're another company virtue signaling to us Black people for no reason other than to feel like they're good people and fucked up what could've been such a great story.
I believe the armies of people helping Alan mr door was talking about are the players who by playing are helping alan but also being a story driven game are part of the story alan writes
With the knowledge that Wake needs to base his stories on urban legends and reality in order for him to not create alternate realities (as seen in the Night Springs DLC), I think Door’s mocking of Wake’s rules comes from him not caring about individual realities. Door is suggested to be this being who can easily pass through different realities, but even he has to bend to the power of the stories. Wakes loops to get himself out while mitigating damage from creating alternate realities must be hellish for door, who feels like he’s pinned in place
Events of night springs aren't alternative realities, they're just stories that Alan wrote based on real world events (that Alan likely saw as echoes) to get out of the dark place.
I still hold that Wake is wrong about his limitations. He uses visions from other realities to write something that'll stick.. but he doesn't need to. If you look at all the information from This House of Dreams and really examine the Alan Wake stuff in Quantum Break, it's pretty clear that Alan's powers extend well beyond what even he realizes at this point in the loop - references to dark matter creating the universe comes up a lot. I will say this: If Scratch is the devil himself, what does that make his opposite, Alan?
@ I don’t even think it’s limited to Alan; I think it’s available to all the artists the presence ensnares. It’s just that Alan is able to push on while the others seem to allow themselves to be restrained by the presence. He absolutely is stronger than what we’ve seen, I just think it’s kept in check by the presence torturing him. With the focus on narrative consistency being a requirement to get what he wants (him just writing himself out doing it but with countless other variables in play if he doesn’t focus on them), makes me think the presence isn’t so much the biblical devil so much as the thing that inspired it. There was a recent hulk comic that introduced The One Below All, the thing responsible for strife in reality. It’s not evil, it’s just a consequence needed for the world to function. I think the presence isn’t something like that, and Alan and the other artists try to keep it in check.
@@christopheraustin5915 A reasonable interpretation. Most of my perspective on Alan is coming from little references found throughout multiple Remedy games; "I created this world, but first came the word." Alan's destination on the spiral being ascension, not escape, and part of him always being there; multiple references to how dark matter created the universe clearly linking it to the dark place; the fact time is a loop there; the fact he is the 'master of many worlds..' Plus the fact every world he has created seems to exist as a reality of it's own, far beyond the constructs of his story though it could be argued he's pulling events from an infinite multiverse to move into his reality. If you read some of the out of game material like This House of Dreams it seems to lean even heavier that way. Mr Door seems to find Alan's need for rules silly; not in a way that is like 'oh, you need these for things to work' but 'Oh please, you haven't moved on past this yet?' Alan's been wrong about things before - I just happen to think he doesn't truly understand what he is capable of, yet. Quantum Break's chalkboard is what really cemented the idea for me, which specifically references Alan, the creation of the universe, and "Let there be light."
I'm surprised to see he didn't explain the NG+ content in terms of how it relates to the ending. Also Alan's cutoff point at the point of no return is when you drop off the photos in the shoebox, since when you get Alan up to that point, says you need to finish Saga's half before you can finish his.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I was excited for him to mention how the New Game+ works as a meta narrative showing that the developers are happy that Alan Wake 2 succeeded in its vision
Wait did you cover the new content and ending in New Game +? Saga's daughter did picked up the call with Wake waking up in front of both Saga and Alex Casey ending. New Game + also acknowledged the spiral theory.
TH-cam just told me I'm in the top 1% of your viewers this year so I'm here to say thanks. Pretty sure it was mostly the Legacy of Kain video several dozen times, but I've quite enjoyed your other content as well, thank you son.
First game from remedy that I played after Max Payne 1 on 2001, and my mind was blown by Alan Wake 2. Full of Kojimaesque like uncompromising implementation and execution, combined with Remedy's own artsy madness, sprinkled with Twin Peaks vibes all over.
Alan Wake 2 somehow became the perfect epitome of people overreacting to DEI to the extent that the mere mention of a black protagonist that complements the story alongside a white guy is enough to turn you away from experiencing something for yourself. Quit drinking the hate kool-aid and try to form an opinion based on the game itself for once in your life. Quit looking for something arbitrary to be outraged over.
The funniest thing is that in the real world, "DEI" happens almost exclusively in corporate seminars for middle management. The idea that there's some kind of actual initiative to make all of media more diverse for any reason other than "appealing to new demographics for profit" is unbelievably silly. Everyone knows corporations have no values other than profit. Of course, when it's brought up in culture discourse it's just being used as a quick euphemism for the N-word.
The funniest thing about anti-wokeism is that DEI isn't even a thing outside of corporate seminars and hiring offices. The idea that corporations would ever be ideologically committed to inclusion (or indeed, anything other than profit) is laughable.
Yeah. Writing off a game before you even understand if it’s shoehorned in is a little ridiculous. It is heavily implied that Saga is Mr. Door’s daughter. Mr. Door is based off of Martin Hatch from Quantum Break played by the late Lance Reddick. It would make sense then that Saga is black then. I don’t know think they ever thought Lance Reddick being in Quantum Break was DEI.
Definitely fix that. If you've not played any of the other Remedy games.. honestly.. either start with AW1 and work your way up, or play Control first. Playing Control first in particular will make you appreciate AW2 way more an IMO Control is their best game even though I love AW2.
@@BlazingOwnager I've played every Remedy game except Alan Wake 2. Was just waiting until it had a physical release. I now own it and just need to play it.
Alan Wake is my favorite Video Game Story ever. I love the Setting, the storytelling, the Characters and OH GOD the music. While Alan Wake 1 will never be beaten by any other game for me, 2 is the better game - Even tho its not quite AS atmospheric to me. But man, i loved every minute of it.
I think you can expand that to the RCU honestly. It's all one story at this point (even the legally not part of it stuff). My play order was Max Payne -> Max Payne 2 -> Alan Wake -> American Nightmare -> Control -> Quantum Break -> Alan Wake 2 and the only thing I would change is playing Deathrally, the deceptively important game in the universe.
finally watching this video after finishing alan wake 2 last night. i adored this game. it was honestly a masterpiece, the musical section genuinely enhanced everything, as funny as it sounds out of context. also, i absolutely believe that saga is door's daughter
I think the slow intro is a call to the style of Twin Peaks. The first episode is more of an introduction to the environment you're visiting, soaking in the view and the people. After episode 1 it's a downward spiral of insanity and seeing the place and it's people of how they really are behind the curtain. I think that's what they were building up to with this game. Some people dig it, some don't. I absolutely loved it.
A thing I appreciate about the logic of the story is that, since the “powers” of artists are rooted in narrative design, they’re non-linear. A story can jump between events in any sequence, and the viewer is left to put it together from their own linear perspective. Characters like Alan or the Old Gods can help one another by creating a plot point that gives a character a tool when they need it, even if it was long before this point in the story.
«It’s not a loop, it’s a spiral» means you have to go another round with the main game to reach the true ending 🤗 The ending mentioned in this video is only a half-ending. You have to play a «new game + » to get the true ending. In the true ending Logan will pick up the phone, Scratch is truly vanquished and it is implied (though not explicitely confirmed) that everyone (incl Alan and Alace) left the dark place.
@@ILoveHoneyBunss anyone who says the game is slow doesn't play horror games. It moves at the same pace as RE2 Remake. You just gotta really like stories that bake your noodle.
I loved the original, and the sequel is incredible! The "Herald of Darkness" sequence is my favorite section of gaming from last year. Final Draft does make a few notable changes and recontextualizes a lot of the ending's events. Maybe I missed it, but it seemed like your review here skipped that?
You didn’t mention the story beats from the NG+ called “The Final Draft” plus during that we DO find out what happens in Saga’s story including the Fate of her Daughter
The fact they killed it so hard after such a long time was really impressive. I still think about Alan Wake 2 all the time even though I haven't played it in a year. It was really just that good a game IMO.
You should really fire up if you've not played it in a year and play the DLCs. If you're a fan of Control (and if you're not.. get on that), The Lake House was a great episode.
I hard a hard time getting into the game at first. Still not a fan of the mind place. But once the narrative really got going I got pretty hooked. Ultimately it was a great experience and I ended up 100percenting the game, but I can definitely understand that some people wouldnt vibe with Alan wake 2. The gameplay itself is rather subpar.
I hate to agree with you, but I do. I came to AW2 after coming off of Control and Quantum Break, not to mention having done MP 1 & 2, AW and American Nightmare prior, so the actual pacing of combat and restricted ammo and stuff drove me nuts - Control was a MASTERCLASS in gameplay. I love the universe so much I still played it twice, but they'd benefitted a lot by being less stingy with ammo and items (My last playthrough I got a total of 2 rocket flares the ENTIRE GAME and never felt any need to use them!) and giving you bigger arenas. For proof of this, just play Number One Fan from the Night Springs DLC - the combat is actually a complete blast and very fun, when they let you engage in it.
Everyone thinks they're calling him Tom because of Tom Zane. I am convinced they're calling him Tom because the original Tom was True Tom Rhymer, all the way back from DR (or, even deeper, from the stories of folklore). You see references to True Tom a few times in AW2.. but I think Zane & Wake are just echos of him. "You have been warned."
One of the greatest games I've ever played, the story of Alan Wake 2 is something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, can't wait for Control 2 and the future of the Remedy Connected Universe
Thank you, great to hear you enjoyed our game ❤ Regarding Control 2 and Remedy Connected universe, there may already be some answers in the Lakehouse for those who believe and pay attention... 😉
@@janipaajarvi7099 At 40 years of age I have to agree. It was an experience unlike anything. Suffered from "game-fatigue" for years but since AW2 I am wide awake. 😁 Gameplay was great, story was a nail biter, soundtrack was perfection. My gaming laptop died on me so I haven't been able to play NG+ or any of the DLC, but I cannot wait to jump back in when I get the chance. Here's to AW3 and all of you on the team 🍻
I think at least a bit of Night Springs is canon, I mean when you talk to Breaker in the dark place about his dreams he even says he’s other versions of himself.
I've already started to see it, it's always nice to see the passion that Remedy games create in their players, this game has not sold what it deserves, but Remedy has never felt overwhelmed by this, without a doubt Remedy enters the top 3 of the best development companies in the western world in single player games.
In a few hours I will contribute to spread the word of Remedy, With a theory that I hope will blow your minds It includes elements of Night Springs, The Lake House & Beyond The title is “Jesse is the Hiss" Great video bro👊
My biggest problem was how buggy it was.. had quite a few annoying moments trying to switch guns or my rocket flare literally being unusuable. Thankfully most of remedies issues seem to be bug related and not anything else
This was my 2023 game of the year. I’ve played and bought this game on 3 different platforms (don’t ask) and I don’t regret even having to spend that much money to play it. My favorite game in this genre, and my favorite remedy game. I would say it’s a masterpiece, and I don’t just throw that word around.
This is a crazy good game. I'm sad they still haven't recovered from the investment, which may make other devs stay away from ventures like these. I liked it a lot and I recommend the TGA show too
think this being an epic exclusive hasn't helped sales tbh or (when it was first released) not having a physical copy. I think - at some point - this shall get a Steam release that shalt boost the sales. Reckon when Max Payne 1 + 2 remake releases, and also Control 2 we shall see this game get this massive resurgence in sales. Because it's an excellently crafted narrative experience. The first Alan Wake had similar issues when that was first released also. I see the Alan Wake franchise as remedy's (overall) baby and passion project that they will do whatever to fund and produce. Really hoping that after Control 2/ Max Payne 1+2 remake that Remedy give us a final Alan Wake game !
@@reubengoddard2742 epic funded the game it will never be on steam. They said they have recouped most development cost last update they gave considering how long Alan wake took to recoup cost not surprised. It's a niche franchise but will be profitable like the first game was in the long run
I got into your Channel a bit over a year ago because I was looking for long-form Remedy videos ahead of Alan Wake 2 and you’ve absolutely become one of my favorite channels to watch. Thanks for all your hard work and incredible content! It feels very right to finally see a long Alan Wake 2 video 😁
1:49:30 Not ”supposed to be” but absolutely is. Quantum Break is part of Remedy connected universe all where it matters and don’t let anyone using only legal terms to claim otherwise.
Yep. Quantum Break is absolutely in the RCU with many direction connections, saying it's not so Microsoft won't sue them is a bold move but I'll salute them for it.
The first time I fought him I entirely missed the puzzle to unlock the shotgun, so I was running around with the starting pistol just getting bulldozed again and again.. lol
Wow your timing on this video is impeccable! I just finished the game two nights ago so this is going to be some fantastic complementary material! Love all your vids!
I just this weekend beat this game to enjoy my new GPU and experience it. Absolutely loved it. Currently back playing Control and beat Alan wake 1 2 weeks ago. I’m all remedy’d up.
I loved this game. The team saw what Capcom did with RE2 remake. Used the ideas that were fitting for their vision. AW2 is fantastic. Silent hill 2 remake also borrowed the bones of RE2 remake and made it something grand. I love the modern horror landscape that is emerging.
Remedy is one of my favourite developers of all time alongside Fromsoft. Alan Wake 2, a sequel i never thought I'd ever get is truly a masterpiece. It makes me sad it did not sell well. AW3 will never happen now, I assume. I can't wait to watch this video!!
It took years for the original alan wake to be profitable and we got alan wake 2 remedy games tend to sell well over long periods I expect we'll get alan wake 3 one day won't be for years but they created a whole multiverse doubt this will be the only alan wake game we get.
@Pizzajohnn I love the optimisim but just not how the industry works. Remedy been bouncing from contract to contract getting investors. An investor won't want to invest if the game takes 1 or 2 years to even break even. The only way we get Alan Wake 3 is if Remedy pay out their own pocket and it's for the love of doing it, which is possible, just think it's very small possibilty. We can pray haha
@@Pizzajohnn I doubt we've seen the last of Alan and the Dark Place, I just suspect they'll find themselves moving into other Remedy franchises now like Control 2.
I wish I could like this game but I had so many bugs on PC and got soft locked for hours cos the care home girl never gave me the dialogue to open the door. Thought the mind room got old so fast and the ending with that part too was pretty weak. The game still has audio/subtitle glitches on PC too even after a year. The latest DLC was alright but the puzzles were a bit basic... The last boss glitched on me too when I threw a molly up on the top level and got her stuck 😅
I'm glad I can enjoy this video on here. I had no luck getting the controller to behave in a usable way on PC and ended up refunding it after 50 minutes of fighting with the attempts to invert Y axis. What a shame, the delux version is half price on Epic right now, making it cheaper then the normal version.
Hey Son, Just wanted to say, I love how you think about games. I always learn something about games I have played, and for games I haven't played, I know I can trust your opinions because we value similar things in a game.
Maybe some of the ties between Control 2 and AW2 are already out there for those who pay attention... Lakehouse spawned some new questions yes, but maybe it also has some answers, if you know where to look at 😉 (unfortunately this is about all I can say about our Control 2 at this point in time)
@@janipaajarvi7099 I'm absolutely convinced after The Lake House that Dylan will be the main character of Control 2. It makes complete sense, because they can't start Jesse off at max power level, and nobody likes the "you lost all your powers between games" gameplay concessions.. Dylan is the perfect way to start fresh and not ruin Jesse.
@@BlazingOwnager Hehe, even if I 100% do know all the good guys, the bad guys and the dead guys of Control 2, I'm 100% unable to reveal any of them - including the role of Dylan or Jesse in the game. So sorry, can't comment - you have to wait and see 😅
This is one of those games I heard so much praise for, but at the same time heard it was awful and boring. Looking forward to hearing your take on it, Son. Thanks as always for the Sunday uploads.
It was unfortunately subjected to a hate campaign by culture warrior ideologues. I'm not surprised they call it boring, though - I suppose it would be to people who can barely read.
@@FelisImpurrator To be fair, get why they latched onto disliking it without playing it. SBI has basically destroyed every game they've touched and injected them with some of the most painful cringe inducing dialogue from culture warrior ideologues on the OTHER side. So they cherry picked a few things from AW2 and then slandered the game unfairly, which dives me nuts. I'm always arguing with them because AW2 is about the most apolitical game I've played in years. The objectionable dialogue lines are from shadow possessed evil Saga, and they try to act like that's just Saga the whole game because none of them know anything about it. It's really a tragic mess, and I don't think they'd be suffering any blowback at all if SBI wasn't waving the AW2 name around on their website, which is like poison. Basically AW2 is not KTJL, at all.
@BlazingOwnager I'm not interested in taking the opinions of an anti-woke conspiracy believer seriously. I live in the real world, not your paranoid fantasyland.
I beat this game a few months ago and… I had more questions than answers when it wrapped. What a complete mind fuck. Now I really need to beat Control, that game was pretty wild.
I legitimately enjoyed it more the second time around, when I didn't have to scrounge for guns and knew where I was going / what I should or could waste ammo on and I could focus almost entirely on the story. That's my one big complaint with AW2, the combat is actually STELLAR, but the way they pace it with ammo and encounters you never get to appreciate it truly - the Number One Fan night springs episode is what made me realize they squandered a stellar combat system by not giving us more big set pieces with lots of ammo and arenas.
Ya know Allen wake seems to be right up my alley, I was excited to play the 1st game on release but never did. So years later I got to play AW2 and I can’t get into it.
This years has been a blessing for several franchises revival or return, we had Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate, Silent Hill, it's reslly a good time to be a gamer, it may be a naive way to see it but I'm just thinking that we've been slowly healing from the open world turned live service game era. 🎉
It's a great time to be a gamer if you are down with indie and AA developers. They are on a roll. If you're a fan of AAA franchises, it's the worst time to be a gamer. Kind of bizarre really. Remedy's got one foot in AA and is "outside of the system," and such, they still are great.
A good video. But i truly hate the Epic Games critique. We all know that Microsoft screwed Sam Lake, and you do remember that video from him telling everyone that sequel will not happen any time soon. If it wasn’t for the blind faith and big chunk of money from Tim Sweeney noone would invest to make this. So yeah, shitty sales are gamers, Epic actually helped Remedy and exclusivity (even though there are console versions no stings attached) is a fair ask.
Steam loyalty makes people silly sometimes. Even though i agree taht Steam is the ultimate platform, not playing amazing games, just because it is not attached to Gaben is lunacy
We indeed had a very lucrative opportunity to create a no compromise Alan Wake 2 with Epic, and I am happy we seized that opportunity. There are not many publishers out there who would have bought our pitch back then - the pitch certainly had quite big creative risks here and there 😅 Luckily Epic folks believed that not only it could become a great game with some unique qualities, but also that we could actually pull it off even if there were, as always, many unanswered questions hovering in the air. I believe we proved with Control that we can build quite unique and weird worlds and stories, so from that perspective Epic had at least some proof of Remedy's current capabilities. Now we are in a similar situation with project Heron (Control 2) - AW2 was again a good showcase, even if in a new genre for us. I still leave it up to the players to judge if AW2 is a masterpiece or not 😅 Anyways, looking forward to surprise the gamers with Control 2, it will be a ride that much I can say - there are some cool teasers already out there in the wild for those who have paid attention 😉 - and also happy to give this Max dude a chance to spill some blood after a long time ♥️ Also very interested to see the gamers' reactions to what the Firebreak team has been building - I'm personally a single player gamer, so while this being a bit embarrassing, I have not paid that much attention to the stuff from the good Firebreak folks living on the floor above mine, even if by looking at the playtests from afar it looks mucho fun 😊
Actually I can say a bit more about Control 2 now that the cat is out of the bag. It will be an action RPG game - so we are shifting the genre a bit with Control as well 🙂
@@janipaajarvi7099 The first Control had RPG elements, they were just surface level - the amount of trash pickups you get is one of the common complaints I can get behind on an otherwise masterpiece. I think if they expand those, it's a net positive for everyone.
Total nitpick, but technically it was Saga that did the examination on Nightengale because the towns coroner was out at another town, as he works at multiples. Not Breaker. Great video!
Alan Wake 2 isn't a masterpiece. I don't think you can claim any game is a masterpiece unless about 5 or 10 years have past since its release. I personally think AW2 is a bad game, but that is because it's way too long at 18 hours. It's combat is awful. It's pacing is terrible. I also felt that the story of AW2 was too pretentious. It felt like M. Night's The Lady in the Water, where M. Night inserted himself as the world's greatest writer that will save the world with his screen play. I have played and enjoyed all of Remedy games. I knew the refences. I even really like Quantum Break, but that's if you know to only play the Steam version with the fan patch as the Gamepass versions were abandoned by Remedy years and years ago. All of the hate though because of the main character being Black and female is insane though. I don't like the game but not because of silly reasons like that.
I'd love to see your take on The Final Draft, if that's an interesting topic for you! I feel like it pays off some of the big moments that were left open in the original story.
I wonder if some part of the imperfections are what makes the series a cult classic? For instance the third person aiming causes the flashlight to sometimes 'miss' the target and the swap mechanic actually broke my game near the end. It's also annoying that is isn't apparent when you should be swapping (though the game forces you to finish 1 character before advancing near the end). Ideally it would have been better as a side a, side b like resident evil but again; maybe the small missteps make the overall experience more charming. Either way it's easy to say that the incredible story really is the star of the show.
Man I didn't agree 100% with your take on Silent Hill 2 Remake but this one imo you hit the nail on the head. Always love your presentation and narration though..
A big part of the reason that Alan Wake 2 didn't sell well at launch is because they didn't release a physical version. Hell, I refused to buy it until a physical DID release last month. I strongly doubt I'm the only one. For all Remedy's anti-corporate ideas in the game itself, I can't think of any idea more anti-consumer than forcing players to pay full price for a digital license they can revoke at any time. That being said, they did say that they wanted to only publish the complete game physical, and I think the thought process there was that the DLC was part of the complete experience... Except Lake House is not on the PS5 disc, and the Xbox version requires a download for even the base game. Very confusing.
I actually swapped to it and it's by far the best browser. I know there's some shadiness under the hood, but at this point, I feel like Google or Microsoft are just as shady. The Workspaces feature and memory management is insane. I am constantly running like 900 tabs open across 16 workspaces and 4 windows, and it takes it like a champ.
@@BlazingOwnager Like everything, paid versions of a software are usually better than free. Here, you pay with your personal data and curated ads. Combat may be clunky and frustrating at times and the pacing gets dragged down by having to go to the Mind Place so much after every little clue but I agree it's the best work Remedy has done to date!
My second playthrough was much more fun because I ignored the mind place way more (only popped in to do the big connections / critical ones) and started with all the gear in NG+. I still wish they gave you more ammo and let you cut loose more, like in the Night Springs DLC where you can blast away and not always penny pinch resources. I think the Dark Ocean Summoning vs Children of the Elder Gods is the perfect example. I spent most of DOS running around trying to find bullets while getting hit in the back.
I love the comments from literally the moment it was posted here to attack Alan wake 2, it’s totally not people hating to hate for generally non existent slights that if even partially exist came from a MOSTLY far removed source. At this point the political baiters crying about SBI are so so much more annoying with the nothing that they spout. At least the white haired fox girl I know that hates this for stupid reasons played it a little.
As someone who was not a big fan of the first game, would you still recommend I play the second? To me the second looks much more interesting gameplay wise, although I probably will find the story just as uninteresting.

Quantum Break's chalkboard is what really cemented the idea for me, which specifically references Alan, the creation of the universe, and "Let there be light."
It’s pretty awesome how Remedy takes the best aspects from the other games and combined it and make it a masterpiece.
Agreed!
Kind of like everything else that’s good, and bad.
I'm surprised to see he didn't explain the NG+ content in terms of how it relates to the ending. Also Alan's cutoff point at the point of no return is when you drop off the photos in the shoebox, since when you get Alan up to that point, says you need to finish Saga's half before you can finish his.
I came for this! The alternate ending is so important!
@@Shane_Bozelie wouldn't say it's a alternate ending its the true ending to the game
I'll always be proud of you, son. But I am a little disappointed that you didn't talk about the spiral exploration and true ending in New Game+.
I’m glad he didn’t because I haven’t finished new game+ yet 😅
I was thinking the exact same thing. I was excited for him to mention how the New Game+ works as a meta narrative showing that the developers are happy that Alan Wake 2 succeeded in its vision
Wait did you cover the new content and ending in New Game +? Saga's daughter did picked up the call with Wake waking up in front of both Saga and Alex Casey ending. New Game + also acknowledged the spiral theory.
It seems like he didn’t.
If you would watch the video you would find out.
TH-cam just told me I'm in the top 1% of your viewers this year so I'm here to say thanks. Pretty sure it was mostly the Legacy of Kain video several dozen times, but I've quite enjoyed your other content as well, thank you son.
2 hour vid from my favorite tuber on my favorite game from my favorite devs? We're so back
You mean from your favorite son
I"VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
First game from remedy that I played after Max Payne 1 on 2001, and my mind was blown by Alan Wake 2.
Full of Kojimaesque like uncompromising implementation and execution, combined with Remedy's own artsy madness, sprinkled with Twin Peaks vibes all over.
I waited 14 years for this game, I don’t support digital only titles….. this game was MADE for me. All the Easter eggs all the cameos. I love it
Alan Wake 2 somehow became the perfect epitome of people overreacting to DEI to the extent that the mere mention of a black protagonist that complements the story alongside a white guy is enough to turn you away from experiencing something for yourself.
They got the right actress to play Saga
They got the right actress to play Saga
First video in awhile I'll have to miss as I haven't played the game yet. Just giving you a comment to help boost engagement. Keep kicking ass, Son.
Thanks homie
Definitely fix that.
If you've not played any of the other Remedy games.. honestly.. either start with AW1 and work your way up, or play Control first. Playing Control first in particular will make you appreciate AW2 way more an IMO Control is their best game even though I love AW2.
@@BlazingOwnager I've played every Remedy game except Alan Wake 2. Was just waiting until it had a physical release. I now own it and just need to play it.
@@Sophnar0747 Nice, that's definitely the best way to play.
This game made me put Sam Lake as one of the best writer/directors in gaming history.
He's not a Lake... He's an Ocean.
Truly an Auteur.
finally watching this video after finishing alan wake 2 last night. i adored this game. it was honestly a masterpiece, the musical section genuinely enhanced everything, as funny as it sounds out of context.
also, i absolutely believe that saga is door's daughter
I think the slow intro is a call to the style of Twin Peaks. The first episode is more of an introduction to the environment you're visiting, soaking in the view and the people. After episode 1 it's a downward spiral of insanity and seeing the place and it's people of how they really are behind the curtain. I think that's what they were building up to with this game. Some people dig it, some don't. I absolutely loved it.
Genuinely one of the greatest games ever made
Lol go iron your pride flag, that hilarious
One of my only complaints is how they updated the game with the ability to replay missions with Saga, but you can't with Wake.
In the true ending Logan will pick up the phone, Scratch is truly vanquished and it is implied (though not explicitely confirmed) that everyone (incl Alan and Alace) left the dark place.
people hating have 100% not actually bothered to engage with the game or its story lol
The only thing I’ve heard from everyone that doesn’t like it is that it’s too slow which is all I need to hear
@@ILoveHoneyBunss anyone who says the game is slow doesn't play horror games. It moves at the same pace as RE2 Remake. You just gotta really like stories that bake your noodle.
@@ILoveHoneyBunss I mean Red Dead Redemption is pretty slow and it's one of the greatest games out there
@ILoveHoneyBunss I guess you haven't heard much then. There's more complaints than that.
Or maybe they did and found it very boring.
How could you leave out “You’ll come back for me?” 😢
The fact they killed it so hard after such a long time was really impressive.
For proof of this, just play Number One Fan from the Night Springs DLC - the combat is actually a complete blast and very fun, when they let you engage in it.
this is EXACTLY what i was wanting right now, thank you son.
44:39 I'm currently replaying AW1 and from the very beginning, the old geezers of asgard seem to recugnize Alan and refer to him as Tom
Gameplay was great, story was a nail biter, soundtrack was perfection. My gaming laptop died on me so I haven't been able to play NG+ or any of the DLC, but I cannot wait to jump back in when I get the chance.
Here's to AW3 and all of you on the team 🍻
The first time I used the lamp to change the environment, my mind broke. It’s so smooth. I am still blown away by it
Just wanted to drop a thank you for making these videos! You nail it ever time and have exactly the same taste as me 😂 ❤

Oh hell yes. Almost 2.5 hours of Alan Wake II goodness.
In a few hours I will contribute to spread the word of Remedy,
With a theory that I hope will blow your minds
It includes elements of Night Springs, The Lake House & Beyond
The title is “Jesse is the Hiss"
Great video bro👊
Alan was launched into The Mouth Of Madness.
Fantastic work as always Son! Keep it up! Tragic this game hasn’t turned a profit.
The soundtrack is so good gurl
My biggest problem was how buggy it was.. had quite a few annoying moments trying to switch guns or my rocket flare literally being unusuable.
Thankfully most of remedies issues seem to be bug related and not anything else
Your game was buggy
This was my 2023 game of the year. I’ve played and bought this game on 3 different platforms (don’t ask) and I don’t regret even having to spend that much money to play it. My favorite game in this genre, and my favorite remedy game. I would say it’s a masterpiece, and I don’t just throw that word around.
I will not ask, nor will I judge. You are a madman. Stay mad!

I just this weekend beat this game to enjoy my new GPU and experience it. Absolutely loved it. Currently back playing Control and beat Alan wake 1 2 weeks ago. I’m all remedy’d up.
Been waiting on this one
I loved this game. The team saw what Capcom did with RE2 remake. Used the ideas that were fitting for their vision. AW2 is fantastic. Silent hill 2 remake also borrowed the bones of RE2 remake and made it something grand. I love the modern horror landscape that is emerging.
This game is awesome 100% my choice for game of the year
I'm so freaking obsessed with this game
We Sing Alone is a Masterpiece
I've been addicted to this game for some time. I am so glad you made a vid about it ❤️
Remember the DS browser?
It was Opera.
That part in every level where they make you backtrack back and forth 3 times 😮 such a masterpiece. WOW
What's the name of the song that plays in the background halfway through the video?
I love Remedy, one of the best studios today. I really hope Sam Lake gets to make his "crazy, huge budget, dark gothic fantasy" someday.
Hey Son,
Just wanted to say, I love how you think about games. I always learn something about games I have played, and for games I haven't played, I know I can trust your opinions because we value similar things in a game.
Can’t wait for control 2 to tie into this series
Maybe some of the ties between Control 2 and AW2 are already out there for those who pay attention...
Lakehouse spawned some new questions yes, but maybe it also has some answers, if you know where to look at 😉
(unfortunately this is about all I can say about our Control 2 at this point in time)
@@janipaajarvi7099 I'm absolutely convinced after The Lake House that Dylan will be the main character of Control 2.

This is one of those games I heard so much praise for, but at the same time heard it was awful and boring. Looking forward to hearing your take on it, Son. Thanks as always for the Sunday uploads.
It probably isn't everyone's cup of tea, but those kinds of games are usually my favorite.
Her name is Saga and her daughter's name is Logan? That's already enough to make me not care about this game.
FINALLY!!! someone gets the ai commentary in Lake House❗40k views should be illegal for a vid this good holy shit
Alan Wake 2 was an art piece. I found it better to watch than to play.
Another banger son. Have you thought about doing an essay about Beyond Good & Evil? I think its a hidden masterpiece thats not often discussed
Are you going to talk about “The Final Draft” ending?
There are not many publishers out there who would have bought our pitch back then - the pitch certainly had quite big creative risks here and there 😅
Luckily Epic folks believed that not only it could become a great game with some unique qualities, but also that we could actually pull it off even if there were, as always, many unanswered questions hovering in the air.
I still leave it up to the players to judge if AW2 is a masterpiece or not 😅
Anyways, looking forward to surprise the gamers with Control 2, it will be a ride that much I can say - there are some cool teasers already out there in the wild for those who have paid attention 😉 - and also happy to give this Max dude a chance to spill some blood after a long time ♥️
Also very interested to see the gamers' reactions to what the Firebreak team has been building - I'm personally a single player gamer, so while this being a bit embarrassing, I have not paid that much attention to the stuff from the good Firebreak folks living on the floor above mine, even if by looking at the playtests from afar it looks mucho fun 😊
Actually I can say a bit more about Control 2 now that the cat is out of the bag. It will be an action RPG game - so we are shifting the genre a bit with Control as well 🙂
A fair ask? Sure, from Epic's POV. But it's still a deal with the devil that will slaughter your sales.
Alan Wake, Control, and Alan Wake 2 are all 3 in my top 10 favorite games of all time. Been waiting awhile for this one Son.
In my top 5 best games I've had the pleasure of playing. Absolute gem of an experience.
Best game in a long time !! 😍
Why are you just re capping the story? We Could have just read wiki
Great video! Would have been even better if you would have talked about the final draft and its ending.
I enjoyed it, the music number was absolutely epic, but the game itself was kind of tedious.
Not a masterpiece IMO.
Man I didn't agree 100% with your take on Silent Hill 2 Remake but this one imo you hit the nail on the head. Always love your presentation and narration though..
Damn, you know the story is great when the video essay promotes to the main monitor with no distractions. Great job, Remedy and Son
OperaGX is chromium based. Not sure if it should be recomended that warmly.

@@BlazingOwnager so frustrating! haha
This makes me want to play it
Im suprised that u didnt say anything about ng+ ending to original AW2
As someone who was not a big fan of the first game, would you still recommend I play the second? To me the second looks much more interesting gameplay wise, although I probably will find the story just as uninteresting.
I came from the remedy universe video what happened with your voice? Are u a different guy?
I assumed the 'spiral thing' was a reference to the true ending being found in New Game Plus.
Basically another 'loop' of the game/story
That is just one more loop on the spiral, where Alan ascends. The spiral has been looping since the beginning.
