Let me give you a couple of conspiracy pointers you didn't bring up in this nice documentary. Number one question we should all be asking ourselves in the western world is WHY are we being invaded by the rest of the world? If we did ask ourselves that question and follow it answering we would find out that NO ONE wants to come to our nations illegally but they are drawn to our nations because they have the false belief that their lives could be better if they weren't being attacked constantly. The second question we should ask ourselves is WHY do so many people around the world believe that living in the western world will allow them to live without attacks? And if we dig into that question a bit deeper we will come to the conclusion that it's because WE or more to the point OUR GOVERNMENTS are the ones attacking these nations around the world so that our CORPORATIONS the same ones who have destroyed our nations for profits need more profits. We in the western world don't have an illegal migrant crisis, we have a war mongering crisis and are making it worse and worse as we fall for blaming the the migrants who are trying to survive instead of the OLIGARCH which causes, allows, profits and controls us with that blame. We are no freer than anyone people on this planet, we simply believe we are because our masters continuously tell us we are. We are allowed to do whatever we please unless it affects our masters and then it is made illegal and the majority is made to believe it's for all our good. Look around any western nation and tell me we are free. How are we free? Are we feed without coercion, are we housed without coercion, are we clothe without coercion and are we educated without coercion? No we are not. Everything in our society has a price and everyone has been brainwashed into believing that without that coercion no one would do anything. If that is true why do the rich oligarchs go to work everyday even though they have enough money to stay in bed? Our masters have created the perfect animal farm and the vast majority of us don't even know there's a farm or that they are the cattle in that farm. The western oligarchs have had the entire worlds resources at their disposal for over half a century and instead of using those resources to build a better world they have used them to sow chaos, destruction, division, poverty, and hatred so they can make more profits for themselves while we argue about who belongs in or out instead of asking why do we have so little of our nations wealth we all work to actually build, not just plan? Maybe make a Documentary about these points. Or maybe the brainwashing isn't Ordinary enough for it. WE ARE THE CATTLE A SMALL CLASS FARMS.

The amount of Brits arriving here in Australia since the end of covid has exploded. It's incredibly noticeable. This hits on something that Adam Curtis talks about a lot in his long line of documentaries - The more we rely on simplistic stories and narratives to recapture faltering feelings of national identity and patriotism, the more we become trapped by those ideas and the more dangerous those ideas become in terms of maintaining collective stability within that crumbling society. "When a nation is powerful, it tells the world confident stories about the future. The stories can be enchanting or frightening, but they make sense of the world. But when that power begins to ebb, the stories fall apart. And all that is left are fragments which haunt you like half-forgotten dreams" - Adam curtis, 'It Felt Like A Kiss'
Some legitimate feedback, I have to say that I was surprised at the toned down nature of this doc compared to your other videos, up until the last few minutes concerning the migrant teens you spoke to. I think the tone you took was more respectful for the content. I also think this allowed you to show off your documentary skills better. This felt more polished.
It was quite noticeable that despite immigration being the underlying theme, we didn't hear from any migrants until that property owner, and then the last ten minutes in France. I'm glad they were there, but for the most part it felt like watching a weather report where they don't tell you the temperature.
@MisterFoxton that's a very good point that I should have picked up on myself. I'm going to pretend it's because I kept getting interrupted while watching it and not because I don't always try to think critically about the media I consume.
As a foreigner deep in the youtube documentary roulette and having watched another couple videos on the topic, I have to say that it's refreshing and inspiring to see you make one that is both sensible and broad in its scope, but also succeeds in treating the subject matter fairly and without contempt. That has all too often been the failure that dooms media in the current year - a contempt and refusal to attempt to understand viewpoints you might not agree with. Big props to you.
This is perhaps your greatest ever video. The level of empathy and nuance you approach this *extremely* complicated and sensitive subject is utterly commendable. I didn't want to leave some ironic or dumb comment; the ending chapters genuinely brought a tear to my eye.
You are kidding, right? We're living in the era of Blairism and have been since 1997. It was Blair who opened the borders - look at how much demographic change has occured since 1997.

The channel migrants literally get free dental, credit card with money, hotel, housing, clothing, food etc. Whilst we get charged 3 grand for braces and have winter fuel allowances stripped. Good times.
Same here in the U.S! They get free cars, money, and debit cards. The African migrants call them "magic money cards" while our homeless, veterans, and lower class people get nothing and live in the streets and poverty! 😊
@@truthteller2033 Well, not only the government would have spent money on bringing those migrants back to their country, but also giving extra money for them to have housing, health, clothing to be in their country. So what do propose to be the better solution?
@@jndelacr Well the grand insult is that they get to stay. I'll happily pay the money if the end result is that they go away. And that would also be a deterrent. Genuinely one of your best. Being British has never been worse but reminding us of how lucky we are to live in this country while its 'gone to the dogs' is important and you've done an amazing job at capturing that strange feeling. The fact you actually go to the places you're talking about makes this so much more powerful, and really makes you think about just how much immigration has taken over public debate to a point where empathy literally stops at the coastline for many. As a metropolitan elite its good to see a real critique too not clouded by a political platforms desire to stoke rage about the 'other'. Brilliant video, definitely your best in recent times.
For me it's quite depressing, how much as how much money we lost by not setting up a sovereign wealth fund like norway did with it's oil, which is now worth £1.15 tillion. Even if it brought in very little it is our oil.
@@JollyOldCanuck they had a budget surplus because they didn't just let private companies take the oil for little compensation. Sovereign wealth fund is completely seperate to deficits. Also your last sentence is nonsencial are you saying the government should do no investment if they have debt. Even if for example every pound spent on education 8 is created in the economy. Debt has repayments you pay the repayments you are fine, you can do whatever you want with the rest of your intake. For example a close example for a person is like a mortgage
You can't really have "inclusion" without "exclusion". If you "include" someone, then you implicitly "exclude" someone else. The question is, what are the specific conditions for inclusion or exclusion. What does "my group" actually mean. I feel like in the past social groups didn't evolve that quickly, so it was relatively easy to tell who was "in" and who was "out". Nowadays social dynamics change from one day to another, leaving people confused. You asked the question "Are you proud to be British?", but I think that if you took a step back and asked "Who exactly are the British?" you'd get wildly different answers.
"Born in the Victorian era" ya maybe if you were wealthy. Who would want to live as a commoner in the Victorian era? Your opportunities and living conditions were complete shit compared to now.

When it comes to the 2011 riots, they never talk about the trouble afterwards. The gang violence that happened after when the stolen property and cash, was fought over by rival gangs. The government does not care about normal people. So much changed in 1974 when they changed the housing act so the most vulnerable people qualify for housing first. Which in a utopian dream seems a great idea. In reality would mean migrants will qualify before ex-servicemen. You could have a job that would pay for rent but have not enough money to eat. A migrant married with four children and claiming benefits and which do you think should qualify for social housing? You don’t see migrants families sleeping on the streets but some many ex-servicemen who are sleeping on the streets suffering from ptsd and addiction problems. The question is what is fair? If you pointed this out are you really far-right or is it an easy way for the government to ignore a percentage of the population and write off their views and to be judged by liberal southerners. I guess because these people don’t really vote the government can do want they want, with no real consequences to their election hopes. The same as pensioners, labour worked out they didn’t need their votes. The simple truth is if we taxed the land we would have so much more money. Think if you own a house with a lease hold, who owns that land it’s built on?

My fellow socialist roommate tells me we shouldn't talk to people on the opposite side of the political spectrum. I strongly disagree with him - we should always talk to our neighbours and fellow citizens. You may disagree with them, but through conversation and listening we can start to overcome societal and class hardships.
Keep in mind that there’s a false dichotomy. I’m a leftist and I talk to everyone who I know in real life. I don’t debate online, but I also select who is actually open to talking and that often does mean needing to have some amount of common ground. This is where I agree with your friend. If I don’t know you in real life and if we don’t have any common reality, then we can’t talk meaningfully. I’ll save us both the headache.
I was thinking this recently as a recent UK-escapee: We grew up with the financial crisis (my first savings account had 0.000056% interest), watching shows where characters bought houses for £5000 (shameless comes to mind), and then grew up to austerity measures, crime and a nanny state No wonder we get mashed up, dont feel patriotic, and sell drugs/stab eachother; if you have no hope, why would you have any fight left in you? 42:17 very Interesting point he makes there. Wonder if there is some other group of people holding beliefs unlike his own, that simply by Existing makes him angry. Where does that anger come from indeed
Because mass migration hurts the economy and social cohesion (there is no shortage of identity and class based insults these days). While failing elementary level science mostly hurts the individual and all unfortunate enough to hear.
Because their "beliefs" are objectively wrong. Unlike religion, where by definition it's unknown if it's real or not, the Earth is very much round. Vaccines do not cause mental problems. Etc. I get frustrated at these people because they've shown me that they're not just ignorant, but unwilling to listen to reason. And that affects me, because these people can vote, and make decisions on important things. Their stupidity can end up affecting all of us if there's enough of them. Their children, if they have them, also deserve less stupid role models.
If you're angry at someone for their subjective opinions/beliefs, the hatred usually stems from an internal conflict - you're upset about something in yourself, and you see it in others. If you're angry at someone for believing something like, "the moon landing was faked," I'd say that's because they're simply stupid. And stupid people make me upset, because they can vote, and ultimately affect my life. I'm not saying certain people shouldn't be allowed to vote, I just very much wish people weren't stupid.
@@bugjams I'd say the reason these people can so easily make someone upset, is that they're frustrating to try to explain anything to due to them seeming to have a phobia of even the possibility that they're wrong. And it's most annoying when they have clearly twisted something to be completely the opposite of reality to match their thinking, while acting smug like they've just won the argument using clever reasoning with no reasonable objection to it.
Do you see the cultural enrichment working yet? Not to put too fine of a point on it but the only societies that have actually made mass migration work are the United States and Brazil. And even they have their limits, hence Trump.
What I don't see in this vid is asking UK born citizens with ethic backgrounds what they think of this kind of immigration has done to the country. It would give a bit more insight to see if they have the same opinions as the rest or do they see it as problem for being ethically different that they are caught in the crossfire after years of social acceptance built suddenly been destroyed by these immigrants.
So refreshing to see some actual serious journalism. Not what I expected from this channel when I subscribed but welcomed nonetheless. My 2 cents on this, if anyone is interested: Highest tax burden in more than half a century, and yet all public institutions and services are severely underfunded and overstretched. And it’s the same story all over the developed world. The problem is deep and will be extremely painful to fix. Most people who get a glimpse of it resort to blaming a cabal of highly capable and evil people (rich businessmen, the WEF, Thatcher, Biden, etc) because it’s actually more comforting to believe there’s a plan that can be stopped and a head that can be cut. Taxing Elon Musk at a 99% is not going to get us out of this hole. Neither is kicking out Ahmed the barber from across the street.
I want to say you have been a role model to me for years and taught me to never give up even when it felt useless. Never let the bastards grind you down. From Ireland 🇮🇪
41:59 I'll have you know Mr Things that Barium poisoning is no joke! I got exposed to it and now I have developed a thick, moustache-like growth on my upper lip, a severe mutation of my voice box so that I now only speak in a Yorkshire accent and every time I need to shift something I'm compelled to cry out To me! To you! To me! To you! until the task is complete. This affliction, unlike the English comedy duo sensation The Chuckle Brothers, is no laughing matter.
Patriotism isn't wrong, it should also be directed at improving your own country. So I kinda get why there are people angry with the current state of affairs. I also don't see much empathy for people who fled their home country, came all the way to France, in hopes of escaping to England. There are better ways to migrate, this isn't 1 of'em. Not to mention, people who ran away from their countries tend to bring their problems with them when they refuse to integrate, which is already a problem we can see. Compassion is all well & good. It means nothing if you hate yourself & prioritize foreigners who don't even respect you.
"It's a tragic irony that the most outwardly patriotic are often more concerned with who they're excluding than who they're standing alongside." - Ordinary Things
The problem with that statement is it could just be his social perspective. I’ve gotten things wrong about people all the time simply because I thought they had ill intentions or I was more “righteous” when in reality they were trying to figure out how the world works alongside me. Pride can go along way in that. The statement It’s not based on statistical facts like other topics like health care/prison/cost so it’s something to be checked and not taken as right just because it sounds fancy or “good”
A nation is just as much about who you exclude as it is who you include, with the possible exception of the American project. In fact, one could argue that when you lose things like a common history, a common language, a common religion, it becomes incredibly hard to actually maintain a nation state Through anything other than brute force. An Englishman must first be above all else an Englishman.
It is a necessity for the English to be English. For the French to be French. For the Germans to be German. Because to say they are not English, to say they are not French, and to say they are not German is dehumanizing and humiliating. All illegal immigrants must be deported.
@1-eye-willy Not what he actually said that he didn't sound English? No, just make up some weak crap in your head to soothe your failing narrative instead huh.
This is one of the most important videos ever made about England, the scarily little amount of any coverage of the August riots coupled with the mainstream media's way of trying pretend everything's fine has opened the door to people like Josh and Britmonkey to make the only relevant capsules to the state of the country. This video will be studied, it's both beautiful and incredibly depressing, it's the only accurate summary of the country right now.

I swear to God I had that exact same taxi driver when I went to Dover. Either that or they all look exactly the same and enjoy torturing their passengers the exact same opinions (which is possible).
Two observations: 1) It's interesting to me how a lot of folks you interviewed in the street, had a clear short circuit when you asked "why", despite being quite open about their opinions. This suggests, to me, a strong bubble effect. Everybody they're engaging with already holds similar views, and so nobody is challenging them on those views. 2) I left the UK in 2014, and make occasional visits to see family. Every time I return, everything feels more political. I was back a few weeks ago for my brother's wedding, and every single person I spoke to - be it close family, old acquaintance, or somebody I hadn't spoken to before, had to bring up politics. I remember joining this channel to hear some ordinary things, but the quality of these documentaries is way beyond ordinary.
It's weird how this is your most serious video yet, even though last time i checked in you were discussing the inevitability of death.

You can't blame people for being angry but they don't exactly go about it intelligently. This country has gone to the dogs and lack of proper governance is the problem.
This seems to be an issue across the world. Declining economies, housing, etc. combined with an increase in crime and mass migration.

40:37 "exasperated" and "exacerbated" are two different words with two different meanings.
I live in france. Since the immigration increased sky high, so did rape and murder stats. Much more terrorist attacks too.
My 2 cents on this, if anyone is interested:
Highest tax burden in more than half a century, and yet all public institutions and services are severely underfunded and overstretched.

Almost finished and once again, absolutely incredible video.
The statement It’s not based on statistical facts like other topics like health care/prison/cost so it’s something to be checked and not taken as right just because it sounds fancy or “good”
If your nation does not exclude, you have no nation.
A nation is just as much about who you exclude as it is who you include, with the possible exception of the American project. In fact, one could argue that when you lose things like a common history, a common language, a common religion, it becomes incredibly hard to actually maintain a nation state Through anything other than brute force.

And typically one of an anti-immigrant or anti-Labour perspective. Unpleasant... not looking forward to going back at Christmas.
why are the immigrants usually young men? just being honest - i think people care more about woman and children when it comes to charity
They send the money to their families back home
Young men are stronger, more likely to avoid being SA'd and can do more types of work. Its about raising the likelyhood of survival and succes
It could also be like the guys from Eritrea. Avoiding being drafted or conscripted by either side in a war, or even assumed to have already been and 'dealt with'
Immigrants are 48% female, I assume you mean asylum seekers? Asylum seekers are more likely to be men as they are the ones that helped the military in Afghanistan and they don't put their wives and children on dangerous boat crossings.
@@michalovesanimeweird how it was mostly women and children fleeing from ukraine when the war broke out, but the women and children stay behind in these supposedly horrid situations elsewhere.
Been waiting for this!! Knew it'll be anytime soon. Keep up your stuff 💪🏽
52:38 I have empathy outside our borders, but only if my own sanctuary is not currently on fire. Priorities.
