Extra Case: A monster that ACTIVATES in the GY (aka if this card is sent to the GY or is banished), it can use it's effect and it won't be negated. When a monster is removed from the field, then triggers or starts the chain link OUTSIDE of the field. Any applied effect on that card would be removed by then. The cases in this video specifically applies to monsters that attempt to activate on the field in which case cards that Activate on the field, resolve on the field. If it was negated on the field and attempts to activate an on field effect by removing itself for cost... It was negated on field thus negated when it resolves. Any applied effects on the field will affect the effects on the field. You can even illustrate this with fairy tail snow. A card effect revives snow with it's effect negated. A negated Snow activates the on-summon effect, then forbidden droplet chained to remove it for cost, however snows quick effect can be activates banishing 7 cards to summon herself out. In this chain, snow would summon back from GY (as that one activate outside of the field and thus is reset) droplet would resolve, then snow's summon trigger would still be negated.
Can you explain why eglan still goes off? I would assume that because imperm is last in the chain link that imperm negates the effect. Book would flip face down but eff is 1x per turn so are you saying it would activate multiple times in the chain?
I'm saying eglen would resolve to add the card. Because it got flipped down by the time we reached cl1. Imperm would no longer be applying by the time book finished resolving.
is this the same case with dark ruler no more on a monster with an effect tht goes to graveyard? like dark ruler no more sangan, destroyed by battle, will it activate and resolve properly in grave?
Quiz format is a bomb idea. Super interactive and serves to let viewers determine if they actually know stuff. A couple of these got me. Quiz format helped me commit these to memory.
Chain 1 Mekk-knight purple nightfall Chain 2 imperm on purple Chain 3 book of moon on purple -The purple is flipped face down -Imperm doesnt have a target -Purple resolves : it is banished face-up, adds a mekk-knight, and on your next standby phase, it will come back FACE DOWN Because it keeps its battle position. I find that hilarious :)
Activate evenly Opp chains baronne You chain droplets sending the evenly to negate the baronne How many cards are left on the field after the chain resolves?
I think this was a great video, especially as a guide for newer players. The calm way of explaining every interaction made this a really great tool to come back to.
Lol the skill drain one I got into it with this one kid because he said I can't attempt to activate effects under skill drain even though the card literally says otherwise and he got a game loss for unsportsmanlike conduct
had a situation back in the synchro era where I had to deal with a skill drain that hindered my gladiator beasts that were unable to go off and having recently coming across valuable information, I learned of similar bits and used that knowledge to tag a glad for bestiari and activated the effect to pop my opponent's skill drain and being smug of course he has no response. I was when I flipped BoM targeting my own card he got puzzled and of course with the chain concluding, my moster got flipped face-down and was able to apply and he got so salty when the local judge who I just shared my find with ruled in my favor. 10 out of 10 would do that again
I really like the idea of a quiz video. It serves as a way to teach players of all skill sets to really test the interactions and give proper resolutions. I had even second guess myself thinking I had some questions wrong.
Did in fact knew all theses ruling, but I rly like the format of this video, this is for sure a great help for ppl who struggle with rulings in general. Learning yugioh rulings alone is a pain, so much easier if someone explains it.

So "reset" to monster effects only happen to face-down monsters. Sending the monster to graveyard, banished zone, deck or hand DOES NOT reset a monster effect. If it activates on field, it resolves on the field. Also, working chains backwards step by step is key.
really cool video - it would be a bit labour-intensive to add to the editing process, but it might be worth adding the cardtext to the screen for relevant cards for this quiz-like format, especially since in any scenario like these the card text would be available
Does the resetting only take place by flipping monsters face down, or can that happen in other situations too? For example sending it back into the deck or to the hand?
I would say they would still be negated (if the monster is attempting to activate its effect while already negated by something by droplets). It’s conceptually the same as the example of ecclesia, the card resolves where it was activated

Fun fact for dragon link players if your opponent negates your hieratic seal and you activate it’s effect still and have it tribute itself as cost you can still special summon a dragon from your deck you just don’t get to bounce a card.
Lost a match once bc opponent activated effect of a negated monster cl1, then used a different effect cl2 to send it to the grave, but then claimed it does resolve bc it was in the grave 😪 no judge was around
nice video got em all correct had to think about the 2nd last one rest were easy as even for me who hadnt played yugioh since 05 and only got back into of it cause MD
I got the first 2 right so far, but just want make sure I understand how to explain the concept- Would this be an accurate explanation? “If an effect is activated on the field, it resolves on the field- the location of the monster at resolution does not matter, unless the card doing the negating states that a specific location is a condition for its negation to persist.”
If, let’s say, Stratos gets Ashed on NS, would Book of Mooning the Stratos let the effect go through? Im pretty sure it’s a no but is it because Ash negates the effect and not the card itself?
Hey great video! I have a question however in regards to wording. How does this apply to effect veiler and tribute as cost effects as well as fog blade?
Veiler is the same as the others mention..chalice imperm droplet veiler are all the same case. Fog blade is like skill drain it needs to apply it's effect on a face up monster because it needs to continuously apply it's effect.
Wait if a monster that tributes itself for effect activates on the field and skill drain effects cards on the field then shouldn't it negate by that logic?
Now a question: I have Flawless perfection of the tenyi on field, i have right hand shark and silent angler, i xyz summon gem-knight pearl with both monster. I have no other monsters on field. My opponent special summons a monster. Can i activate Flawless perfection of the tenyi effect? Can my opponent use infinite impermanence on my monster? If he can, and does, and then special summons a monster, can i activate Flawless perfection of the tenyi to draw a card?
how does skill drain and weather painters play out? since it resoolves on the field, and they banish for cost, do they noot get to resolve eff if they get the bonus eff from weather s/t?
Does the Book of Moon interaction change if the negation is on the effect itself and not the monster? Specifically I'm thinking of Ash Blossom. Since Ash Blossom negates "that effect," does booking a monster "reset" the negation in the same way that monster negation would? I assume no, but it's never come up and I can't seem to find a 100% confident answer online. *edit* I just realized it's not really possible to have a chain link where this would occur. Since Ash Blossom has to be chained to the effect it would negate, there's no way (that I can think of?) to book it in between the effect activating and Ash Blossom activating. And I think it's fairly well understood that if you go Effect, Ash, Book of Moon, it would resolve since Ash can still negate the effect after the monster is flipped face down. It hasn't been applied yet for the book to reset anyway.
Curious how book of moon works with negations that react to effects/activations (ash, strike, savage dragon etc) over targeted/on field negation (such as imperm veiler, chalice, droplets etc).
Something similar happened to me at a tournament where I Infinite Impermanence a Albion when he was gonna use its effects then he responded by using super poly and used the Albion as a fusion material to make Predaplant Dragostapelia instead and then said because it left the field as a fusion material it’s effects weren’t negatived because imperm wasn’t able to hit it since it had left the field and continued to do Albion’s banishing to fusion summon and I was just like wtf how does that even work it’s not a grave yard effect, I tried to argue with him and another guy agreed with him and I just got over it.
well that was correct when he chains superpoly to your impermanence its target it no longer there to negate the effect so superpoly will resolve, your impermanence will resolve doing nothing and then albion will resolve its effect
So question, if I activate elemental hero stratos search effect and my opponent chains ash blossom to that, I then chain book of moon as chain link 3 targeting that stratos. Ash won't negate stratos because startos is face down now?
As a Weather Painter player every single duel. EVERY. SINGLE. DUEL. becomes a conversation of "No.. they banish for Cost so they dodge the negate, and because Imperm lost it's target, the column isn't negated either." Every single duel. T_T
Hi there. Hello ! If Destrudo once has paid cost (in hand or gy) and selected a lvl 3 monster to become a lvl 4 and once Destrudo hits the field is selected by infinite impermanence, does his level become 7 again ? Same situation but with skill drain on the field , what would be Destrudo's level after paying cost and all requirements to be special summoned? I have a lot of friends and different jugdes saying his effect is applied and resolved in hand/gy and because of this is not affected on field for these cards (impermanence, veiler, skill drain) Thank you for all your help
What will happen if ,I activate monster effect (the monster doesn't have a cost) then it's negated by borreload savage dragon then I flipped the monster to face down what will happen?
Hey Tom I have a question on Despia If I have Masquerade on the field and my opponent activates something like Metaverse, will they have to pay 600 for metaverse plus 600 for the activated field spell?
CL 1 Prank Kids Rocket Ride, CL 2 Forbidden Chalice, CL 3 Book of Moon targeting Prank Kids Rocket Ride. How would this resolve since Rocket Ride tributes for cost.
I ask for a guy at my Locals and I know its a Standard Ruling but he needs proof: A Monster, that got its Effects negated with something like Veiler, Imperm or the new Punk Negation Trap can still use its Graveyard Effects, after its Effects were successfully negated on field. The Grave Effects can still be activated, when its sent to grave Grave for something like a Link, Fusion or Synchro Summon, right?
Yes a monsters grave triggers/ignition effect can still activate. As once the monster is removed from the field, that monsters effects that activate in the GY are not affected by face-up negations on field. It's a new card activating at this point. (UNLESS, KILLED BY Dark ruler Ha Des, which negates the destroyed the Monster even in the GY)
Ash negates the effect and not the card. So ash would resolve this negating the effect it's suppose to negate. The card itself isn't relevant to ash's negate.
I also have a friend who played dark magician deck he had a dark magician up and eternal soul face up, I active there can only be one and he responds by says his enteral souls is a quick play trap and he special summons a dark magician from grave while already having one up, and says they are unaffected because of enteral souls, is he correct by doing that or could he have not done that by saying there can only be one does not affect his dark magicians on the field?
Ok this is cool and all, but why tf Konami rule that flip face down reset the negated effect on the monster, but not when it is removed from the field as it resolved negated. It really confusing to explain to new players... The flipped face down monster still on the field... why isn't it resolve negated :(
I got one for you, how would the interaction of world legacy’s secrets targeting a mekk knight in grave being chained to a taia being activated followed by heavenly dragon circle to remove the taia from the column the mekk knight is being summoned to.?
irritates me how some think that negated monsters can't activate their effect. you gotta convince them that nothing is stopping you from activating the effect. cuz they know it'll be GG if you do
@@Faradars1 Ash is a "when" so she specifically only negates an effect that she directly responds to. She doesn't actually last the whole turn either: effects that aren't once per turn can be activated again after an ash was previously used on them and will resolve normally. For other cards that aren't "when" negations, it'll generally be in the text how long it lasts. And if no duration is described, then it's permanent (e.g Lost Wind) until the monster is reset somehow.
I have a ruling question say My opp has chixiao and chengying on field. I activate widow anchor targeting chengying then chain another widow CL2 to chixiao Then my opp CL3 chixiao negating my kagari ...since a card was banished does chengying activate on the same chain or does it activate on a separate chain... I wanna say it resolves on a separate chain since it was triggered
you did great explaining this, and I got almost every question right. i think i only missed 1, but the first and last ones were especially easy. another thing to note is that if you have a monster with it's attack or defense stats changed, flipping it face down also resets them too.
@@chitahitsu4743 we all know what it is... Even judges know it's just a short term for "SEGOC situation when 2+ triggers happen at the same time making the all the chain link under the last one not directly affect by direct negation cards." By that sounds hella wordy , if a judge gets too snarky about it, it's kind of an unnecessary power trip. That said, It is unwise to just throw term around when it doesn't apply.
What if the judge/head judge doesn't know what they are saying too. I had a situation where I was told that ogre stopped the cost of infernity launcher. Had another situation where I was at 56k lp and my opponent was at 4k and time was called and I was told to play It out after 5 turns. (Old yugioh)
I think that konamy decided that effects of monsters resolve even while face down, just so people were forced to buy the cards that actualy negate instead of just using book of moon on opponent monster. I find no other fucking reason.
Extra Case:
A monster that ACTIVATES in the GY (aka if this card is sent to the GY or is banished), it can use it's effect and it won't be negated.
When a monster is removed from the field, then triggers or starts the chain link OUTSIDE of the field. Any applied effect on that card would be removed by then.

Thanks for the video and this clarification; since was going to ask summon Tourguide to special Sangan and him going to the GY.

And I think it's fairly well understood that if you go Effect, Ash, Book of Moon, it would resolve since Ash can still negate the effect after the monster is flipped face down. If you negating the Effect with Something like Ash, BOM doesn’t protect anything; With Veiler or Imper yes cause need’s to target the monster.
BOM would not protect against Ash, ash is directly negating the EFFECT that has been activated, and not negating a card.
Curious how book of moon works with negations that react to effects/activations (ash, strike, savage dragon etc) over targeted/on field negation (such as imperm veiler, chalice, droplets etc).
It does nothing. They will still be negated. It would be different if you had to target the monster
In my opinion you should have also include number 41 in your monster effect negations part
Last tournament judge screwed me with rescue cat ruling. I negated it with impermanence on field. He said it resolves...

well that was correct
when he chains superpoly to your impermanence its target it no longer there to negate the effect so superpoly will resolve, your impermanence will resolve doing nothing and then albion will resolve its effect
Can you stop an ash blossom from resolving by flipping your monster face down?

If you ash a monster and they chain something to remove their monster on the field, would the monster resolve properly?
Ash negates the effect and not the card. So ash would resolve this negating the effect it's suppose to negate.
The card itself isn't relevant to ash's negate.
Great vid love the ruiling vids
I also have a friend who played dark magician deck he had a dark magician up and eternal soul face up, I active there can only be one and he responds by says his enteral souls is a quick play trap and he special summons a dark magician from grave while already having one up, and says they are unaffected because of enteral souls, is he correct by doing that or could he have not done that by saying there can only be one does not affect his dark magicians on the field?
there can only be one affects the player so dark magician isnt protected from it
You should of talked about world legacy secrets with column negations an how that works
I should talk about a lot of things...
@@MSTTV ok lol
great video!
what about
monster eff c1
gamma 2
book of moon 3
Ok this is cool and all, but why tf Konami rule that flip face down reset the negated effect on the monster, but not when it is removed from the field as it resolved negated. It really confusing to explain to new players...
The flipped face down monster still on the field... why isn't it resolve negated :(
I got one for you, how would the interaction of world legacy’s secrets targeting a mekk knight in grave being chained to a taia being activated followed by heavenly dragon circle to remove the taia from the column the mekk knight is being summoned to.?
Taia's effect is negated still as long as a Mekk knight is in the correct column there during the resolution to my knowledge.
@@MSTTV and if the monster would have been book of mooned?
@@andygarciabaile6911 It doesn't matter. Secrets checks only where the effect was initially activated
the best video but what happens if you use droplet instead impermanence in the last interaction with flowan?
The exact same thing.
irritates me how some think that negated monsters can't activate their effect. you gotta convince them that nothing is stopping you from activating the effect. cuz they know it'll be GG if you do
Can dpe effect be chain on the activation of mystic mine?
Yes. If that's all the context you provide.
I have a question, how you know when a effect is negated forever ( until face down or leave the field) vs a efect negation for the turn
I remeber a bujin monster that negate the fect of a monster forever but ash blossom only negate a effect for the tun
A card says
"Until the End Phase"
Or
"Until the end of the turn"
Or
"Negate it's effects."
In the last case it is permanent.
I have a ruling question say
My opp has chixiao and chengying on field.
I activate widow anchor targeting chengying then chain another widow CL2 to chixiao
Then my opp CL3 chixiao negating my kagari ...since a card was banished does chengying activate on the same chain or does it activate on a separate chain... I wanna say it resolves on a separate chain since it was triggered
New chain. Chengying isn't a quick effect. It's a trigger
@@MSTTV thanks for the reply brother 🙏🏼
you did great explaining this, and I got almost every question right. i think i only missed 1, but the first and last ones were especially easy. another thing to note is that if you have a monster with it's attack or defense stats changed, flipping it face down also resets them too.
Absolutely amazing video forrmating
Hey, will y'all ever be making carbon series in black?
That's a secret, but in short. Very probable
Before watching, im guessing its about using negated monster eff to chainblock amongst other things
chainblock is jargon that really shouldnt be used. also in what scenario could negated Monster effects "chainblock"?
@@chitahitsu4743 we all know what it is... Even judges know it's just a short term for "SEGOC situation when 2+ triggers happen at the same time making the all the chain link under the last one not directly affect by direct negation cards." By that sounds hella wordy , if a judge gets too snarky about it, it's kind of an unnecessary power trip.
That said, It is unwise to just throw term around when it doesn't apply.
Is the result the same if the imperm is cl2 & chalice is cl4, since chalice's resolution affects "that target", while imperm's affects "it"?
Doesn't make a difference
What if the judge/head judge doesn't know what they are saying too. I had a situation where I was told that ogre stopped the cost of infernity launcher. Had another situation where I was at 56k lp and my opponent was at 4k and time was called and I was told to play It out after 5 turns. (Old yugioh)
Head judge is responsible and the authority, at which I can say GG, sorry, it's their responsibility to keep up to date with their knowledge.
I knew all the answers but couldn’t explain why
I think that konamy decided that effects of monsters resolve even while face down, just so people were forced to buy the cards that actualy negate instead of just using book of moon on opponent monster.
I find no other fucking reason.
I did in fact know all of them ayyy judge training paid off
