Preach brother, I’m in the “RB25’s can be reliable” camp too. 38 drift events over 8 years running stock turbo and injectors, just an exhaust, FMIC and ECU (216kw on 9psi). Have just fitted a 2871, S15 injectors and Z32 AMF and made 263kw on 14psi and still stock exhaust manifold like you. Full boost from 3300 to 7400 🤙

This is cool. I like to see different platforms make good power without too many crazy mods. I made 508 wheel horsepower on a 1.8L DOHC VTEC turbo engine with forged internals at around 9.0:1 compression and a Turbonetics 60-1 Hifi turbo on 16 psi. I just installed a Clutchmasters twin-disc clutch and a set of 2200cc injectors and will retune it in the summer as it's definitely winter now.
I've been building, modifying and doing conversions on Nissans / Datsuns since the mid 90's and my experiences with Nissan engines spans from SR20S AND RBs to FJ20s and Z18s... In another words, I kinda know a thing or three about these Nissan engines... I TOTALLY AGREE with everything you said towards the end of the video about people these days not having any idea on tuning their RBs with reliability.... They focus way too much on all the wrong areas and simply doing it all wrong. Tuning the RB is a bloody simple exercise yet way too many people still manage to mess it up and too often end up with spun bearings or cracked blocks... Makes me laugh.
you should look into a water methanol injection kit . can prob lower boost and make the same power, and or leave it and make substantially more . great bang for the buck when E85 isnt so easy to get . serves 80% the same benefits without the massive fuel system requirements for the E fuels , way less maint , and way less oil issues/contamination /corrosion .

Sammit bro, I run a 20e plus T on stock ecu with 20det injectors.. it didn’t go too well but still made power to drift. Even auto trans!
if you gas test the coolant system, and it shows no exhaust gas present, it may be something a mechanic explained to me a long time ago with a 3SGTE. Superheated water from the turbo (if coolant flows thru the cartridge) will cause bubbling. It is normal. As long as the car isn't using coolant or overheating, and no exhaust gas is detected in the cooling system, it's fine, but freaks people out because yup, it looks like a blown HG to an extent.

My guess is we don't drive drive our RBs on the limiter and they are tuned by experts so in away keeping power at a reasonable rate mixed with good driving habits

It’s the most modern of them and it’s technologically the best/reliable. It’s a 26 without the cc’s, itb design and twin setup in reality

I am thinking of getting an R34 rb25det 1999, this is going to be my weekend car and I buy it purely for fun. I wouldn't mine bringing the power level to 500 hp, but knowing there are some limitation and reliability issues, I sure like to get some recommendations for a save reliable upgrade. Initially I was going to get a 944 turbo and swap out to an SQ20det, but going hybrid isn't exactly a walk in the park, so I am now considering the R34/25det.

Stock headgaskets dont blow that easily, but 14psi is better for reliability..
How do you do a run on the dyno? Is the car in the 4. gear and you just press the gas peddle down? The 4. Gear was a 1:1 gear right?
I'm only here to figure out if I should a rebuild this rb25det neo right of the back or if I should just hold off but it's going into a jdm s13 hatch and will not be used as a drift car but is going to be set up as a street legal race car

hey sam, im planning on getting a Mamba GT3076R , would that fit on the stock manifold and be used as a low mount ? i haven't been able to find any info online and mamba is being a pain to get hold of mainly because im in UK and the time difference. would you be able to advice me if it would fit or not ?

All rb20 and rb25 over heat because of the thermostat jus remove it and you’ll be fine my rb25 had a overheating issue i did everything from new hoses and the water pump and nun did the same thing wen i remover the thermostat and drove it for like 2hrs everything was perfect

Did cams,fuel upgrade big turbo stand alone on my rb20. Turbo was a yestertech precession SC61 so it was a lag monste. Had fun till I crashed the car. Lasted me 4 years at 415whp on 91 pump gas.

So you’re making 440hp on 14psi? Doesn’t look like that kind of power from the in car, iv got a stock 2530 stock bolts gaskets the whole deal but I’m at 322rwkw at 20psi and it’s nasty compared to yours no traction in 1,2,3 until 4th even then it wants to let loose I don’t get it yours didn’t even spin when you gunned first haha
I run sticky 265's on the rear. It spins 1,2,3 no problem when you get on it. But we don't do that on the street. :)

Shame man, they are nice cars to daily. I've had multiple r bodies and many 2 door r33s Inc my s14a front swapped yellow car. The 4 door beats them all as a daily. The chassis is stiffer and the boot is way bigger.
I'm selling a gts4 4 door. But it's pretty bad rust wise :( was going to restore it. But got a 34 4door shell mad cheap so changed plans
