Blackstone Betty rocks. I seasoned my grill her way and it’s awesome. I used a palm sander to smooth surfaces just a little. It made a difference! The onion thing is brilliant! I covered my grill with onions and cooked them down. With 5 oil layers and onions to finish, my grill is good to go. It did take awhile. But prep is everything. Plus I’ve been making onion dip with left overs which my girls fight for. This is a great video! Thank you! John
Okay, I have an onion allergy that can really set me off at times but I was convinced by this video to use them for my first griddle seasoning and wow, the surface is so slick! This is how I'll do it from now on, my wife got me this griddle for my birthday/Father's Day gift and I'm excited to start cooking on it!! First meal will be steak and fried rice. The absolute must have is bacon in your fried rice, only one place I've been to that did it and it's the best!!
This is such a great tip. My Blackstone had a very humid & rainy winter with no usage… The corners got a bit of rust. But the rest of the surface looked great. Lodge makes a “rust eraser” and it works! After I rubbed the rust away I gave the surface a good rinse several times. Did a few reasons but of course that did nothing for the corners. But… Betty’s onion method was exactly what it needed. I’ll do another batch tomorrow. Thanks Betty! You rock!!! 🙌
Thank you for the video. My Blackstone griddle needs reseasoning, I'll definitely use your method. On the plus side, I'll use the onions to make French onion soup.
I'm LOL! - I just made cheesesteak sandwiches tonight! - My BS is still under snow, so I did them inside, but still had a chuckle. - Cheers! "Bad to the Bone" is a great choice of music!
I'm so glad I watched this! I use onions dipped in oil to oil my propane and charcoal grill, so this makes perfect sense. Also the pro tip on the griddle block. 👍👍 I'm picking up my first ever Blackstone tomorrow for a camping trip and I can't wait to practice.
First time Griddler here… concerned I didn’t season very well. How can I tell? Should & how do I re-season again? Cheers Betty…definitely want to try the onion dip 👍
We would also recommend to just keep cooking on it. If you are concerned, you can always reach out to our customer service team and they can help you as well. Thanks for watching!
Hello, I can’t figure out what to do after cooking and maybe not using it for a week. So many different opinions. After I clean & season it, it has like a sticky film to it. Seems wrong to leave it that way. should it be like a sticky film between cooking or should it be clean and smooth and dry? Thank you
Just got my BS 22" Adventure Ready Griddle today. This looks like a great way to season it. Where do I find the recipe for the onion dip? I couldn't find it in the BS blog.
Betty, you're the best. Love your advice. I'm new to Blackstone. I haven't seen my question anywhere. Where do you put that big orange griddle cover while you're cooking ?
cold rolled steel? is that cast iron? looks like the griddle behaves like cast iron. also i noticed you didnt use the stone or dish washing liquid on the sides. im thinking about getting the 22
Should I do onions before each cooking session? or is this just once a month kind of thing. and before I start cooking each time should I be using an oil on it?
Just literally bought our first blackstone today, not even set up yet. I'm looking for clarification. After each seasoning layer with blackstone seasoning, do I kill fire and let cool ?? Or do I just do repeated seasoning at one time ( five separate times ) ??
Hey Betty i just subscribed I think your shows are awesome. Thanks for sharing your recipes. I love the Smashburgers from 3 years ago you made. And your sauce sounds amazing. Going to try to make some.... I enjoy your videos thank you. Ps. You're pretty cute too😂...

Betty, you're the best. Love your advice. I'm new to Blackstone. I haven't seen my question anywhere. Where do you put that big orange griddle cover while you're cooking ?
What was the silver thing you used to cover the access to the grease catcher?

You're the best, Kelly!
Do you need to do anything to the griddle after you take the onions off
cold rolled steel? is that cast iron? looks like the griddle behaves like cast iron.

im thinking about getting the 22
So are you cooling off between the 3 to 5 seasonings or keeping it constant temp? Thanks
Kent Rollins is awesome.
Miss the beags and feel very bad for Kent and Shannon!!!
What happened?
What do you do after the onions. Wipe it down? Rinse it off?
If I get a small flaky spot on my griddle, should I strip it down and start over?
Where can I find the French Onion Recipe? I clicked the link and do not see it on Blackstone’s website.
Fantastic tips Rockstar! Definitely need to work on my griddle and definitely using your advice! Have a fantastic week ahead! Cheers 🥂
Thank YOU for watching!! A little love for that griddle and it’ll be good ❤❤
Cheers!

I have a feeling that this spring I’m gonna have to strip and resurface it
Always a fun time starting over ❤
This will have your griddle looking good as new!
Rockstar be Rockin! 😀
❤❤ you!
i read that its not good to turn it on on high from cold as it can warp it - is that not true?
Started the trend of using onions? This has been an age old method, very common to use for seasoning a wok.
do you rinse the griddle with water after cooking the onions?
I can’t find this model anywhere. I’ve looked on blackstones site, Walmarts site, Lowe’s, etc.
Blackstone Patio Blackstone 4-Burner Griddle Station and Air Fryer Combo
You can find this model here: www.academy.com/p/blackstone-4-burner-griddle-station-and-air-fryer-combo
I'm not the biggest fan of onions. Is there another option other than onions for seasoning?
How long is it suppose to take for the smoke to die down
So I left it on high while cooking the onions and now have a few spots where some of them stuck. Dang it! Now what?
The fist step was a Grille Block, what exactly is this? Never heard of it before
What is the actual recipe fornthe French Onion dip?
i cant stand onions, is this a bad idea for me?
White Anthony Rodriguez Brian Jones James
Why. Does. She. Talk. Like. This?
You’re an “expert,” yet you don’t warm the grill up slowly. You torch it on high immediately. It can warp that way...
