Emilie Wimmer's statement about how that lone fighter pilot sacrificed her own life to kamikaze into the Dire Wolf and kill the ilKhan, best exemplifies what the Clans thought of Tyra Miraborg, with a healthy amount of respect and admiration "Yes she killed our ilKhan, but the day i die, i want it to be like that, something glorious and honorable like taking out the enemy's leader with me"
"If you see my father, tell him...i made him proud" It did not, it was the straw that broke Tor Miraborg's back. Because the last time he saw her, she had left him on bad terms due to him disapproving of her romance with Phelan Kell It was the reason why he later surrendered Gunzberg without a fight to one Clan Wolf warrior (Phelan). Phelan told him to remain as leader of Gunzberg, which led to much of the Free Rasalhague Republic (the conquered portions) being more accepting of Clan rule, eventually leading to their union with Clan Ghost Bear years later as the Rasalhague Dominion That 1-year respite while the Clans went back to elect a new ilKhan also bought the Inner Sphere the time they needed to both upgrade their hardware, as well as train and prepare in anti-Clan tactics and strategy. @@carlhicksjr8401 It's effectively extra point defense turrets. Makes little sense in an actual WarShip brawl, but can make a difference when you get swarmed by aerospace fighters. Especially for the Clans, because they're using old refurbished SLDF WarShips that have seen relatively little upgrades over the centuries - the whole Clan honor system and their limited resources meant that there was little combat involving those between the Clans. Now the thing about this is that SLDF space doctrine was centered about WarShips serving as mobile logistical nodes and heavy hitters against enemies their own size, while point defense/anti-fighter protection duties were to be centered around escorting assault DropShips (basically DropShips that leave out most or all transport spaces to pack more armor, guns and/or larger engines) and friendly fighters. Well the class of warship does have lasers and anti-fighter missile systems, so they do. Thing is the forward defenses meant to protect the bridge were taken out early on in this cinematic as were a lot of the other weapon systems and you need a lot of firepower to take down a space fighter: For context it got hit by a quad of pulse lasers in this cinematic: Those can take down ASSAULT Mechs in the lore.
It’s a Star League era warship: in the lore they were designed around the assumption of mutual support and fighter screens in large fleets, so they sacrificed point defense for more big guns. The Dire Wolf only has a few missile launchers explicitly designed for anti-fighter support, so if someone slips through the fighter screen it doesn’t have much it can do to repel them.
To add to the other two comments, the Clans also tend to bid away warships. The Ravens operate a large navy because they focus on aerospace combat and the Sharks/Foxes have a decent sized escort fleet. But warships tend to be the first thing the Clans bid away when engaging in conflict among each other. As such, most combat tends to be with Dark Caste bandits operating armed civilian vessels which either jumped away during Operation Klondike or were captured afterwards. As such, point defense systems have degraded somewhat due to the perception they're not needed.
