What is the tech gap between IS mechs and the Clans omnimechs? Since the Clans didn't experience galactic wars like what happened to the IS and it was over two centuries since the SL left, are we talking about 19th century weapons vs modern day?
I'd say more along the lines of a 1989 US military vs a 2024 US military: An F-14 vs an F-35 for instance. Sure F-14 has some very nasty missiles and more of them than a F-35 but good luck seeing the F-35 which is much easier to pilot and harder to get a weapons lock on.
The IS was dump enough to destroy Jump Ships and high advanced Production Facilties including killing or banishing Interllectuals during the first succesion wars. Warcrimes were significantly (90-99%) reduced after the Ares Convention come into being, but the Damage was already done. Only Comstar mananged to secure SBV Tech on greater scale. At the time of the clan Invasion Clan Weapon refinary was around 400 years ahead; IS Laser: 300-600 Meters. Clan Laser: 450-1200 Meters. + Clan got Impulse Lasers. The Timberwolf with 75 tonage and 81 kph was faster than most 50 tonage IS Mechs and got more firepower than the 100 tonage Atlas.
