The second episode of 6 contestants tackling another set of challenging and humorous tasks! Critics have called it: "Surprisingly great", "much yes", and "Can this be the official US adaptation instead?"
I am now going to write Taskmaster US in this description so that maybe the algorithm will pick this video up when people search "Taskmaster US".
In this episode, Ben, Carter, Henry, Max, Owen, and Parker get to gaming, celebrate a special day, and get sexy.

It might not have all the technical polish of the other Taskmaster shows but it's certainly got the same energy of the UK and NZ shows, from banter, to having contestants with their own special versions of the tasks to the editing that keeps things moving without being too excessive. Thanks for making a Taskmaster US show that actually does it right.
How is it that a bunch of college students in Minnesota can put on a series of Taskmaster this entertaining, but a team of industry professionals AND Alex Horne in Los Angeles can't manage the same?

Man I gotta say in despite the audio this is seriously top notch stuff. Clever tasks and great editing, holy cow. And everybody is so charming and funny. You guys should try and get some better surround mics for the studio segments. I know they can be expensive though.

I'm here for Ben being the Nish Kumar of the series. The defeated attitude and face is what does it for me bloody brilliant casting decisions.
I adore the fact that just like in TMUK I don't know many of the constestans but I end up getting a good grip of their personas episode by episode. Carter ftw.

I think Ben is more of a Roisin Conaty or Daisy May Cooper, with just a bit of Phil Wang; passionately defending just the worst attempts imaginable

Ben is like a mixture of Nish's accepting he's shit at the game with really good banter/trying to save the attemp, and some big Katherine Parkinson vibes (especially the sexy/unsexy task and the fireworks).
I don't know how the next episodes are gonna go, so maybe my initial read of the constestans is wrong, but I love how much effort you've all poured into this. You can tell everyone is really feeling the TM energy (both cast and audiences). I hope Alex Horne notices you and gives you a huge thumbs up.
@@kannavz3494 Haven't seen series 9, so that could certainly be possible. I did consider Katherine Parkinson as Ben as well! I think that's probably more accurate than Daisy now that you mention it.
For me, when Henry was filming his board game attempt, the thing that kept running through my head over and over was, "This is Nish's sudoku"

I'm watching this two years later, but I'm already loving the potential of grapes to become the MN version of eggs, and solo cups the MN version of rubber ducks.

Second episode, love it, getting a sense for the contestants, the pacing on the board games task was amazing! Editing on point, I thought things were about to get too esoteric and spiral but the juxtaposing it with the bird watching and the train lecture was really great, this really feels like what I think Alex would have originally created.
This is brilliant. I think I've paused to laugh more with this than I have on most episodes of the real show

Carter and I were laughing a lot off camera about Mr. Moneybags having a moustache and a monocle as a kid, and we wanted to also have the mom and dad have moustaches as well, but he was running out of time and had to start filming
You guys really killed it. Best Taskmaster spinoff I've seen to date. If you had better sound mixing, it would improve the production value. But this is fantastic!
Something I never thought I'll see: even-numbered teams on Taskmaster!
How did you decide which contestants go on which pair?
I've always thought 6 contestants would be dope because of the potential team pairings! If I had more time, I would have done a separate set of 3v3 tasks as well and split all the pairs up so that no two contestants were on multiple teams together.
I made the pairs based on team chemistry; I wanted to give the teams every advantage they could have for being funny, so I paired people up with the people I know they work best with. Not all the contestants had met each other before doing TM: Max and Ben hadn't met, nor had Henry and Carter.
Carter and Parker are a natural duo, if that team task wasn't enough proof, I don't know what is. Henry, Max, and I all took the same classes together and were in marching band together as well, so those two were pretty comfortable with each other. Owen and Ben play a lot of board games together and also kind of have similar thought processes.
I tried my best to keep the teams secret as much as possible! Parker, Carter, and Henry didn't even know that we were filming team tasks until the moment they saw their teammate! Ben pretty much figured out who his partner was going to be, because he was pretty much only closeish friends with Owen. I COMPLETELY convinced Max that his partner was going to be Parker, because I purposefully said "Alright, so when Par- err... I mean your partner gets here, we'll get started." and he bought it hook, line, and sinker; he thought I had messed up but he was playing checkers when I was playing chess

I laughed so much! This is such an enjoyable watch :) Ben's 'sexy' task absolutely destroyed me. I get Owen's embarrassment, but I give his team's song 10/10 on the entertainment scale. Genuinely, every one involved here is doing amazing and deserves major props. Love the camera work too - those sneaky glimpses at things that could make the task more successful are a masterful touch :)
Max and Owen are awesome, so entertaining to watch.

heyyy!! I'm a high school student and producing a taskmaster-inspired segment for our school news show. We have to be a lot less ambitious to fit it into a 5 minute show 😭we just did one singular task, and its a lot harder than it looks. this is really impressive, I'm thoroughly enjoying yalls stuff! actually my new dream to do this tbh
OMG! I have just today discovered this as a filler to the non UK Taskermaster times...and now I am torn as to what is better, you guys or the original!! i know theres a new season but i really wanted to watch from the start and i'm glad i did:D this is so so good and for example the fact that the contestants are students makes them more relatable and fun to watch! (to me at least) also for the video quality, it's a plus for me, it's sort of nostalgic. you don't need lots of fancy equipment to create something great, i love this whole thing:] !

Hahaha! Idk if Minnesotans are super tall, but Max, Luke, and I are all giants. Max is 6'3" and Luke and I are both 6'4". We all used to live together with a fourth roommate who felt tiny even though they were like 6'!

@@scottbbaird (a) Yes, 5 episodes in total. (b) I was bored in January over winter break, and had just gotten really into TM over 2020 so I thought this would be a lot of fun. Didn't really realize at the time what a monumental amount of work it was going to be, but based on the reception, I think it was worth it!

It for some reason hadn’t occurred to me that you’d have team tasks. Such a nice bonus. But that’s made me realize that you don’t have live tasks at the end - they’d be fun to add if you did a second series.
I've always felt I'd rather just see another recorded task instead of a live + prize task, so that's what I did in my series! This way you get 5 recorded tasks per episode!

I am fairly face-blind en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosopagnosia and thus highly dependent upon people’s hair to recognize them. Is the guy with the longish hair in the board-game lores, who I think was also the portrait model, David Ha?
Yes, that is me. I got my hair cut in between the task recordings and the studio recordings.
The auto-generated subtitles are pretty good, and especially help me to know when someone is saying ‘Parker’ or ‘Carter’ but I’m case you felt like adding to the many hours of dedication you’ve already put in it might be worth doing official ones. Is it possible to harvest the automated ones (or create similar with software) and then tweak them manually?
Luke and I spent a few hours editing the automated ones, but then TH-cam deleted them due to a glitch, and at that point we threw in the towel :/

Also worth mentioning that captioning took much longer than we expected; 2 hours of captioning translated to about 20 minutes of captions.

Nobody should have gotten any points for the tower task. It said to use tinfoil, but everyone only used aluminum foil! Though to be fair, I'm not sure they make tinfoil anymore. But if you could have managed to procure some, it would have been mighty devious to present each contestant with aluminum foil for the task, and have the actual tinfoil hidden away somewhere.
I know I'm coming to this series a year late, but is there any chance of getting individual video clips of each of the birthday songs?

I’ve been so impressed by the quality and originality of your tasks so far. In a lot of ways you’ve managed to capture the spirit of taskmaster like the NZ show has by avoiding a simple recreation of the original. This episode definitely showed that the contestants and Taskmaster and his assistant are starting to find their rhythm as well.
Looking forward to where this goes!

I think this is funny but I just can't get past that its 2021 all you could find was 8 white guys for this project? I guess Minnesota doesn't have ladies or brown people. The real Taskmaster intentionally has a diverse cast. 👀
Yup, that's a really fair criticism, and something I was aware of when making this project. This is what I'll say on the issue, and I have mentioned this in another comment: this is not a professional production and we don't have resources like a casting director and we certainly did not have any appearance fees. Nobody on this show was getting paid to be on it, in fact, they all had to pay to be there in one way or another (travel expenses and buying food). It was just a group of my friends, and more specifically, my friends that watch Taskmaster and had an interest in appearing on camera.
I do have 4 female friends who are Taskmaster fans, but unfortunately 2 of them were not interested in filming this (and particularly not interested in appearing on the internet, as the internet has a rather infamous way of treating women), and the other 2 who would have been interested both live out of state and thus were unable to appear as contestants.
Finally, I am Asian, so only 7 white guys ;)
@@TaskmasterMN This comment was a great read. It started with remaining humble and accepting legit criticism and an acknowledgment of the reasons for the issue. Then a full paragraph on how the problem could be solved in the future.
