There are lots of remote locations around Newfoundland that are worth the effort to get to. Here's one more that's definitely more well known, but no less amazing: th-cam.com/video/tjXNdl_YeHk/w-d-xo.html

If you had kept going up to the bottom you would have found a store to buy some food 😊
My beautiful hometown ❤ I grew up in the valley which is up above the fish plant. So many wonderful memories of growing up there and we all wouldn’t change a thing. Was a great place to grow up in that’s for sure ❤❤
And that man on the warf when you got off was my Uncle Doug ❤😊

That is so cool. Your uncle!! Haha!
I knew about the store from a CBC article from last year but I couldn’t find it. I’ll go back to see Gaultois in the summer and I’ll spend a bit longer there to make sure I cover every corner of that beautiful place. Thanks for the tip!!

Over the course of an amazing 5 day road trip, I am confident that the ferry coming back for me will stand out as the most unexpected event of all haha

Canada has benefited to have Newfoundland & Labrador which has brought rich history, friendly people and beautiful landscapes. As a Vancouverite from BC visiting there for the first time in 2023, spent a month traveling through the province from St. John's to St. Anthony and enjoyed it so much that I'm going back for a second visit in August 2024.

I was in Gaultois once. Beautiful spot. Not many places in the world will the ferry turn around for 1 passenger, and not even make a big deal out of it, but rural NL is not a normal place. If you wanted to stay the night all you had to do was knock on someone's door. They would of said "come on in me son for a cup a tea!!" Enjoyed the video!!! Yeah!!

I agree with you that it was a surprise, and indeed, a unique experience, to have the ferry return to the dock to pick up one single passenger! I mean, there surely aren't many places that would happen! Fantastic!
I share your appreciation for the honour of having experienced this unique small town before it disappears. Obviously, it's far from economically viable to run a ferry, provide power and communications (phone/wireless/internet), medical services, and provide a school for just 4 students, etc. On the other hand, it is awful to think of forcing senior citizens from their homes and a supportive community of family and friends to move them somewhere they don't know, among people they don't know, for their final days. Having watched interviews with some people moving following the closing of a small town in the past couple of years, one of the hardest things they spoke about was to leave behind a well-kept graveyard of loved family and friends whose graves would never again be visited. Obviously, there's more to a community than its economical viability.
In your video, I felt your respect for the town and its people, past and present. And I felt that you deemed it an honour and a privilege to have had the experience of visiting. I have no doubt in my mind that you are very grateful, indeed, to the workers on that ferry for so kindly and nonchalantly returning to the dock to bring you to Gaultois! Thanks for sharing the experience.

    Hey, Mark
You made it to Gaultois. It's so unique. Every square metre of Newfounland is real, and Gaultois is very much that. You can feel past hard work, survival, and the love residents have for this gorgeous town. Viewers! If you haven't been to Gaultois- go! Time is running out. Great video, Mark... and in just a couple of hours. ❤

I think its very important to keep these rural towns alive because I believe there will be a resurgence of these towns in the near future with more internet access like starlink when thats perfectly flushed out, more work from home jobs etc it will makes these remote towns a viable option again.

I’m excited for that possibility. I know I will be buying a house in Harbour Breton when I get my stuff in order. And I know more than a few other people who have the same kind of plan, and a few more still who have already made their plan a reality.
