Great Northern Class 365 Networker Express Ride: London King's Cross to Peterborough - 08/04/21

Video: Riding the full service from London King's Cross to Peterborough onboard a Great Northern Class 365 Networker Express unit (365534 with 365502). This is the first of two farewell rides filmed onboard these units before they retire in May, when they are set to be replaced by Class 387s from Gatwick Express.
This was operating the weekday Peterborough fast (1P52 1805 to Peterborough) evening rush hour service running non-stop through Finsbury Park, Hitchin, Arlesey and Sandy. Due to the drop in travel caused by the pandemic there are only two 365 fast services in this pattern (one from Peterborough, and one back) every Monday to Friday, and some all day stopper diagrams on some Sundays.

What a waste of a Great unit, fell in love with the Class 365 the moment i started travelling on them in the mid ninities and now they been sent to the shredders, You could tell by the whining of the motor that they didn't want to be sent to the scrapyard 6:25 RIP Class 365

I will be sad to see these go. They don't seem old or decrepit, are they going to be reused or scrapped? The latter would be incredibly wasteful.
Whats more, I'd say they are a lot more comfortable than many of the brand new units that have recently entered service, with their dreadful seats and bone shaking ride...

I agree, the Great Northern/Thameslink fleet will be going full ironing board seating with their retirement which is a shame. As for their future, no immediate plans other than storage, though there are some rumours of a potential freight use for some.

The 365s were used as “peak busters” aka more space at on busy peak time services.
However due to passengers numbers have fallen due to the pandemic so the 365s are no longer needed by Great Northern.

@Solomon Clarke to add to this, the lack of DOO cameras on the 365s is another reason why they are going.
But the feature you’ve brought up Air con was stated by Great Northern as a reason for replacing the 365s with 387s.

@Solomon Clarke Your welcome for the information, and yeah sometimes new trains are needed.
Features like Aircon and better reliability are a major benefit of the 387s over the 365s.
Southeastern are also sending some of their 465s and 466s into storage due to reliability issues with the 465s and 466s. Although the lack of PRM mods on the 466s may also factor in to why some 466s are going into storage. These 465s and 466s being replaced by newer 707s.

No, they'll return once Gatwick Airport activity picks up, but at the moment because the Express service has been suspended for months the 387s will be used on the Great Northern services. Rumours are circulating the c2c 387s or GA 379s might be the long term replacement.
