Tacos are priced much higher then competition. A SR5 can literally cost as much as the new Ranger XLT with FX4 package or a nicely equipped Z71 Colorado or a fully loaded Frontier Pro 4X. For 5K less then a trail hunter you can buy the new Ranger raptor that will completely destroy this in every single category one can measure. New Tundras and Tacos are not competitively priced and why I've seen discounts up to 10K on tundras and already seeing 3K discounts on tacos that have barely hit the lots. Toyota missed the mark and it will be a hard sell at MSRP. You better believe it.
@@Vec135 All the mid size trucks are a bit high in price but wouldn't you still go with Toyota over the others considering the past reliability history?
I appreciate the sound test. Almost no one else does one when looking at reviews. A Good sound system is important! I like to hear it too even if it’s from my headphones
The 4-cylinder sounds so much better than the GM trucks. It's very nice to hear that they gave it a quiet cabin. This would probably be my pick in this category. Maybe I'll be able to buy a used one in about 10 years.
and the Raptor has selectable permanent AWD, much more power, and FOX LIVE shocks - there is no comparison no one cares about the stupid ugly screen on the Toyota
Might be in the minority here, but that intake is actually a total deal-breaker for me. I think it would be cool for about 20 minutes, but as soon as I wanted to cruise around town or offroad with the windows down and music up, it would drive me absolutely nuts. Love this truck and the new powertrain, but I'm totally turned off by the idea having to listen to that sound every time I step on the gas for 10+ years.
Your on-the-road ride review was so important to me. Another influencer claimed the on-road ride was really bad. I have looked/road all the other mfg off-road mid-size overlander pickup trucks and will now strongly look at the Tacoma TrailHunter. With the extra mpg over the others, I believe I will now purchase the Tacoma but only after more review and possible road test. Thanks!
I love the design, color, and overall look of it. Just that price and powertrain of a 4 cylinder instead of a V6. Insane that this thing is $70k with that engine.
Great video! I recognize that road and have driven it several times in my 5th Gen 4Runner 4x4. There is NO WAY in hell I would drive the 4Runner down that road at some of those speeds...and I have upgraded (firmer) Bilstein shocks. That OME-equipped suspension must be amazing; made it look like you're driving a sport SUV. 🙂
For those who have never built a off road crazy overlander, try buying a base anything truck and make your own, will cost a huge amount in parts and time (or labor). Then its a question of making it all work. The ZR2 is a steal and the TRD Offoad base with front dosconnect is also not crazy.
I already get worse than normal mpg on my 24 tacoma because I’m trying to make turbo sounds. I would get like 12 mpg in the trail hunter! Those turbo sounds are awesome 😂😂
Car prices are so out of control and the Taco is no exception. Considering the more moderate trim levels are still over 50K, this is going to be a hard pass for me no matter what.
That intake sound would get old quick. Sounds like a hair dryer. Not a fan...I'm thinking the regular TRD OffRoad with the $4400 "Upgrade Package" and the 14.1" screen option is the most bang for the buck".
Plenty of people will buy this and the TRD Pro. You do realize that some people do have money, be this or a Porsche or a Ferrari. We are not created equally.
This is a miss. Much rather have the AT4X over the trail hunter and RR over the pro. Curious how much market share Toyota is going to bleed this model generation
thats one quality-sounding stu-tu-tu-tu-tu but as fun as that sounds theres no way im buying this over like a ranger raptor. ill get the stu out of that for cheaper...
Not impressed with excessive "bling", missing offroad accessories, and poor mileage. Prior very dependable long life 2005 technology non turbo V6 (lower hp/tq) 5 spd auto had 22mpg highway. Winch, side rock rails, phone mount, off-road info., traction boards, ground clearance? For the price, year model, and Toyota expected more. Engine sound is anemic. Right idea wrong execution. Ranger Raptor much better overall, lower price.
The only thing that matter is how to drives off-road. But for >$60k for a midsize truck is ridiculous. No thanks Toyota. I'll keep my Bronco which was $10k less and more capable in every way.
No price differentiation from this and Lexus. Not liking the new Mexican made tacos. If your interested in this brand you better hurry fast and pick up current 4 runner or one of the remaining GX 460's that are made in Japan. If your interested in the new Tundra or Taco look elsewhere as they are massively over priced. In the case of the Tundra also experiencing considerable quality control issues and they are piling up fast and rotting on the lots. Even the new tacos are piling up at many dealers. On most trims they utilize tons of hard plastics and the little turbo can be very loud as most don't even have insulation under hood. Massively overpriced for what you get. Averaging 10-15K more from just a few months ago from the 2023's using cheap Mexican labor is absolutely insulting. AS bad as the back seat was on the outgoing this new one is a complete joke and unusable. Trail hunter at 65-70K is a complete total show stopper. Just about every oem has a better alternative including many full sizes that are more capable.
Never thought I would hear “stututu” on a Tacoma 😂😂
i'd buy that truck just for the intake sounds 😂
Lol I just did...

Bro i am smiling listening to that sound
Today I learned my WRX needs a snorkel intake setup cuz uhhhh that SOUND IS INSANE
The 4-cylinder sounds so much better than the GM trucks. It's very nice to hear that they gave it a quiet cabin. This would probably be my pick in this category. Maybe I'll be able to buy a used one in about 10 years.
All the kinks will be worked out by then, so not entirely unfortunate.
It does not sound better than the 2.7 you are tripping out. The cabin is also quieter in the colorado. The intake sounds cool because of the snorkel
the truck breaths
The Ranger Raptor is a relative bargain at $57-60k, with much more power, and a better back seat.
and the Raptor has selectable permanent AWD, much more power, and FOX LIVE shocks - there is no comparison
no one cares about the stupid ugly screen on the Toyota
Seems like a far better bargain. Too bad markups on the ranger raptors are ungodly
The demand for ranger raptor will lead to markups, trd pro and trail hunter could come down in price because of low sales.
I believe it's has always been the case, the domestic will offer a cheaper package to compete with the Japanese.
less torque
they sold me on the intake sound haha
Never thought I'd watch a Topher video and see the same roads I joyride in my Miata any chance I get. Hope you enjoyed San Diego while you were here!

I can imagine that, luckily not all trims have it
Like most cars, you wont get a ton of noise unless you are pushing it.
it's annoying. I agree.
Then stop driving the truck like a sports car…. It’s an automatic your not closing throttle all the time you’ll barely even hear it 🤦🏻♂️
man this road looks fun.
Toyota is one of my favorite manufacturers, as well as older VW/Audi.
$63,000 is less than I expected but still very very expensive
For this kind of money im getting a new Miata and a used Taco or Frontier... lol.. still have $$ left over for mods

Yeah he personally bought a ranger raptor so what does that tell you about his true thoughts....
Am happy there's a 5ft bed option of the trail hunter, the 6ft won't fit in my garage

great to know about the extra noise isolation in the higher trim levels - low noise levels are so important for managing fatigue on long journeys
I think that snorkel sound would eventually annoy me.
ngl you have the best reviews
@TheTopher
Now that you have the Raptor, which would you go for? Direct comparisons of the powertrain?
Which one did he buy? That should explain which he prefers.
@ryanb8736 ranger raptor, although as he said in the video, he drove the tacoma first, but the ranger was on order for a year already
Hi I’m Kalani!!! I literally love this truck omg I love your videos ❤😊
It was great as always , perfect ❤👍
I like it, but Toyota has really priced themselves outta the market. The zr2 appears to be the best midsize off road option now.
Really? Seems like the Ranger Raptor is the clear winner in my eyes but I guess everybody has their own tastes.
Those turbo sounds tho
That’s the one thing that always bugged me about the newer Tacoma’s, no paddle shifters for fun.
It’s pretty interesting to see how it makes full boost so early on. You could definitely short shift it and have plenty of torque.
All the budget went into the 14-inch infotainment screen.
Hating much?
How does it compare acceleration wise to non-hybrid version?
Im wondering this question too but with the 3rd gen. Is the acceleration any better?

Wonderful. Reliable. Toyota.
Reliability?
It has a lot to prove with this new platform.
The tundra had a rough start.
The turbo noise from factory😮!
Why does it have a V8 sound to it? Is that pumped in fake engine noise into the cabin?
Such awesome truck
Don’t get me wrong the intake noises are amusing, but it’ll definitely get old quick after daily driving this truck any longer than a year
TILF Hunter... Trail I'd Like to Find
The main question! You own the Ranger Raptor. How does it stack up? I’m in between. The only reason I’m going Ranger Raptor is for the paddle shifters
Ok one question, if Toyota made a TRD-pro with the supercharged V6 out of the Lotus, would you buy that over the Ranger Raptor?
2gr fs great motor for that lotus what they should have done is keep the fks from the third gen have it more power and a nine speed and it would rip
the sounds :))))))
Awesome truck
Did the wireless trailer camera system (extra shark fins) not make it into production?
Did he just say $63k…
Forget anything I said, the intake redeemed the price
Fantastic truck imo...stll @ $63k, I'll pass.
trd off road is the only reasonable trim. Still pricey
How would you compare to the Trd Offroad or Limited by the way love the channel
cool truck no doubt, but 63k is such a tough pill to swallow for a Tacoma. hopefully they hold their value like tacomas of the past.
Drive that road frequently, cant believe how the trucks handling it, usually you get stuck behind some overland vehicle going 30 the whole way
No moon roof?
I am so glad I was able to watch you drive an off road truck like a race car.....😕
How much does a car travel on one liter of fuel?
Will it blend in with bumper to bumper traffic while utilizing hybrid technology?! 😂
When is the TRD Pro?
Car prices are so out of control and the Taco is no exception. Considering the more moderate trim levels are still over 50K, this is going to be a hard pass for me no matter what.
I’m not seeing much difference between the trail hunter and TRD Off-road except for some bolt on parts and the $10k price increase 🤷♂️
I think the Land Cruiser was built for international that is why they put more money into making another grab handle for the driver side
For that money I’m getting a almost new GX460 with a hitch and a utility trailer.
Color dorado uufff que nave 😊
