Your analysis was very accurate, specially about the "barbershop harmonies" I wrote for the group. Our individual vocal ranges suited this type of arrangement so well when Judith Durham was mainly the lead vocalist. Also, when Bruce Woodley took the lead, it gave me the chance to voice Judith and me above his rich baritone range. Athol Guy was the consummate "Mr Bass man" and filled in the low range so perfectly. Thanks for giving our ORIGINAL SEEKERS project a mention too. We just keep having fun!
Hey Keith, you were the last passenger on my 185 from Wynyard to McCarr's Ck. I never saw you again on that run because it took so bloody long to get there!
Omg! Keith you won’t remember me at all, but Ruth Webb (Webbie) was my mum Shirley’s best friend. (Shirley Lockyer )They met in around 1948, give or take, in Melbourne. They remained close til Webbie passed. She was an amazing woman. We are really proud of you. Bless you!❤️
Always interesting to hear your comments Fil. Today is a sad day for Australia because Judith Durham, lead vocalist for The Seekers Passed away yesterday at the age of 79. The Seekers always were popular in Australia. As you mentioned, they have great vocal range, but Judith made the Seekers. She was an Australian living treasure and will be sadly missed.
I had the chance to watch the group in 1968 at Central Washington State College and they were wonderful. I was so sad to hear of Judith's passing but will never forget them.
Not Australian, and late to the party, I’m afraid, because I just learned of Judith’s passing, but ever time I hear her sing I’m back in ‘65 and a teenager in love. Thank you Judith.
In 1965 I was 15 and never thought the Seekers cool at all. Then when they came to the Albert Hall on their 50th Anniversary tour I bought tickets for some friends of mine who were fans. That night after 50 years I became a fan ! They were nothing short of superb ! Brilliant musicianship and harmonies to die for. Judith Durham’s singing was as strong and perfect as it had ever been. I was blown away . Bought the greatest hits and DVDs now! Never too late to become a fan. Great analysis as usual 👍
I'm glad you were hooked on them, ...eventually. We had them to ourselves here down under, but we thought we should share them with the UK back in the 60's...lol. Yep, 'Wings of Pegasus' has done his research well, as usual. I'm glad the lad has good taste in music enough to review the great music we had all those years ago. The number of young kids listening to 'the oldies' stations here in Adelaide, are amazing...and when I ask why, their response is.."Nothing but crap on our music stations now". High praise from them.
'The Seekers' Judith's voice is unmistakable! Like i have said b4, that 60's Folk Lore, nothing musically like it, i love anything by this group! I loved your break down of this group, You Rock!!
In my humble opinion, no other group has perfect harmonies like The Seekers do. Keith Potger's talent is outstanding in every way, be is singing or guitar playing, writing music and his sense of humor is a breath of fresh air. Long live The Seekers ❤❤❤❤
@@tobystevens3788 That is kind of an unusual thing to say, but I agree. The Everly Brothers and the Seekers were both unique and great, in their own, separate ways.

Such a powerful voice from such a small frame. Judith is one of those rare pure talents. She always looked like it came easily for her, effortless (even though, obviously, she worked very hard to be that good).
Can't believe we've lost her. Rest in Peace, Judith. Your voice encouraged me to sing! Of course, I had a bloody horrid male voice and was never going to have that angelic tone that you had!
@@rebeccasimantov5476 The Wiggles are still going lol but I have not lost my memory yet haha. Spent years working in Childcare playing their tapes. As well , one of them...no names...invited my friend out for coffee at Teachers College long ago. She refused lol

I saw them in Belfast in 2014, she was very frail and tiny, when she walked on the stage i thought how is she going to sing, well from the first song she had the voice of an angel, simply wonderful concert and very emotional.

That concert of over 200,000 attendees that Fil spoke of is STILL the record for a live concert in Australia - at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne - about 10% of Melbourne's entire population at the time (1967). I was there with my parents - I was 6 years old and had never seen so many people!
I was born after Judith left The Seekers, so they're a bit before my time - but as an Aussie, I have always been aware of the place they hold in music history. They were the first Aussie band to experience big success overseas. An incredibly talented group 😊 and Judith's voice is so pure 😇
I met Judith in Melbourne, she is so friendly and easy going to talk too. Beautiful lady, who overcame some serious adversities, her husbands death, a serious car accident and brain haemorrhage which took a fair amount of rehabilitation. She’s a strong woman, & she asked me my favourite song, I couldn’t lie as a kid, my brother and I loved ‘Morning town ride’ Judith is one of the original pop stars of our time, so many happy memories listening to their music again. I just love the Seekers. All their hit songs are sensational. They were lost when Judith decided to leave the group. Glad they got together many years later. Best song versions with them. Harmony vocals right on and that's not easy for males to sing below a female vocal. Judith is an Australian national treasure.
Thanks for your honest and kind comments on this group. They are the queen and the love of my heart. I must say that you too have a good and warm heart just like them, I can see it through your comments. Keep it up man. 👍👍👍👍👍

With all that Judith has been through, She continues 50 years later with the greatest vocals of any female in history , The only group to knock the Beatles off the #1 spot in the billboards
The older I have become the more I appreciate these singers. Judith Durham and others like Karen Carpenter had truly amazing voices. There is a great video from 1965 of The Seekers singing (I’ll Never Find Another You) recorded live at Abbey Road Studios and it’s in color, watching Judith in this video and her confidence and pitch perfect voice just soaring above everything else and to think she was only in her mid- twenties. I came across this video of I’ll Never Find Another You only about a year ago and had to dedicate the song to my wife on her Facebook page.

I was nearly 6 year's old when my older sister broke the news to me that The Seekers were breaking up. I cried and cried. Such incredible talent and timeless songs.
I was 5 and allowed to stay up for their ‘farewell’ performance. I cried the whole way through. Went to their 50 year anniversary performance and had an amazing time.
Thank you Fil for checking out this great group.Love their harmonies and overall sound.Judith's voice always got my attention to listen close to the words she was singing on a song. Her voice was always sharp, clear and every word she sung on a song would always come through very clear and direct that made a big difference on the harmonies of every song they sung.Thank you for naming the other guys and giving them the credit they deserve in their own right. The history and background of the group was interesting.A few years back,I tried to contact her directly. She responded back through her publisher thanking me for complimenting her on both her stint with the Seekers and also her solo career.I told her She was in an unique class of lady singers such as Patsy Cline,Karen Carpenter and Whitney Houston. Her response was very humble and she said she was honored to be in that class of singing artist.
Hello feel here love your opening dude better yet I love all your old videos people don't pay homage to the oldies enough especially this generation so thanks and I appreciate your comments back
I enjoyed your look at the Seekers in this video -- always nice to get the perspective from someone who knows the business. I realize that you'll probably not be doing another with them, but I think you'll be impressed with Judith's performance in the song that came next that night, "You Can Tell The World." She was on fire, and sang her heart out!
Great analysis! God love The Seekers and God Love Judith. God be with her now. Thank you all for the fantastic memories and that's what life is about; creating good memories and not chaos for people.
Although this video is some 3 years old, I only just saw it for the first time today. Choked a little as we've only just lost Judith 😞. I enjoy Fil's analysess, as he covers works and artists from a variety of styles and genres. From the big beaming smile, the viewer can tell he's really enjoying what he is commenting on!! Really like it when I see comments from the performers themselves, so thank you for that Keith.

OK You got me coming over hear this review, which validated all i thought about the band and dear Judith. Thank You so much for giving them the attention they deserved. Dennis
I have seen the Seekers on evefy Tour to NZ and Judith is truly a beautiful person to spesk to, i love all they have released and saw their last live show in Christchurch NZ. They sounded just the same as in 1964 this proves good music never gets old
Thank you for highlighting groups and artists like this. They deserve it and you are giving these artists the spotlight they deserve. A lot of people these days have never heard of these artists. You are bringing them back. Thank you Fil and God bless you!
As a 60s child I cannot think of any other group that evokes more potent and wonderful memories of that time than the Seekers. I don't think many people nowadays will realise just how popular these guys were, especially in the UK. For a couple of years they at least matched even the Beatles in popularity, and deservedly so. In my view they are Australia's greatest ever export.
I think you are right, but the Bee Gees, Midnight Oil, Olivia, Reddy, ACDC and Icehouse still rank up there...and I like Kylie and Cave at lot. I think what is missing in this wonderful and enthusiastic video is just the general sensibility in the Aussie culture reflected in the music of all those artists for an almost utopian happiness, and honest well wishing, combined with a really strong individual spirit, but also a frank recognition of the dark side of humanity, a sort of weird combination not seen elsewhere...
And, would you believe, she had dreadful self esteem challenges thru this period of time. Felt she didn't fit the image of a '60s female entertainer. One of the main reasons she left the group
Wow. What a concise and informative analysis. And to top it off, we have have the brilliant Keith Potger adding his first hand experience to it all. Sends a shiver up my spine. Thank you to you both (and to the youtube algorithm that got me here)
"A World of Our Own," which I believe followed their first big hit, "I'll Never Find Another You." Both written by Tom Springfield, brother of Dusty. Thanks for a great excursion through their musical history! Fred
Thanks for great review! They sand another song on This Ed Sullivan show, classic gospel tune “You can tell the world”. Judith belts it out in amazing style to Keith’s admiring gaze. Gospel was part of their repertoire from day one.
Thank you for not only playing an Australian group and your musical knowledge but the knowledge you have about each artist you have on your channel. It’s very much appreciated.
The biggest most door opening group besides the Beach Boys at around the early part of the 60's were the Kingston Trio who were faced with the same or similar circumstances when playing on tv. Seeing either one of these wonderful groups live at a venue like the Icehouse in California still remains a cherished memory I will never forget.
When the Stars Begin to Fall is one of my favourites - TH-cam has a live version of it. Her voice is so beautiful, and as a group they were phenomenal. No gimmicks, just pure talent. There's been no-one like them, before or since.

@@Caperhere I do, too! I remember it was popular the summer before I started 7th grade, and I couldn't get enough of it. I must have practically worn my recording of it out...LOL!
Definitely. How lucky we were in the 1960s and at the time we took it for granted.
I was 8 years old and as soon as Fil mentioned that song I could instantly remember every word. Isn't music like a time slingshot?
Judith has perfect pitch. Just beautiful. I love your analysis. Thank you for all you do.
A fitting tribute to a brilliant group and one of the best vocal talents in modern times - small in stature, but massive in talent !
Wow!! What a powerful voice she had and her pitch was dead on!!! No autotune!
Seekers were great.. Same vibe as Peter Paul Mary.. All those great harmonies of the '60s.. Wonderful Era with a mix of musical styles..
They've certainly had the longevity.
I do miss Judith's gorgeous vocals.
Thanks Fil. 😊
I love that you love and respect this stuff brother. 🤘🏼
It just doesn't get much better than this. So pure, so raw, so much talent and so endearing.
I love them, especially Judith Durham. Great sound, great lead singer. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Rest in sweet peace, Judith. Missing you. 😞
Wow...so beautiful. Incredible times. As you said, it was live then, purely live! And l really really appreciate how much you research things and find out about the people you’re talking about, it’s lovely. Ok, I need coffee now I’m emo again. Thank you!❤️
OK You got me coming over hear this review, which validated all i thought about the band and dear Judith. Thank You so much for giving them the attention they deserved. Dennis
I have seen the Seekers on evefy Tour to NZ and Judith is truly a beautiful person to spesk to, i love all they have released and saw their last live show in Christchurch NZ. They sounded just the same as in 1964 this proves good music never gets old
Good on you mate, thanks for sharing yr views, passion and true and genuine appreciation for something in life , anything, is a true gift. Good on ya!
A fantastic analysis. I speak as one of the original fans of the Seekers. I still have a 1964 World Record Club 7” reels to reel tape in its box
The barbershop explanation is great thank you
Thank you for highlighting groups and artists like this. They deserve it and you are giving these artists the spotlight they deserve. A lot of people these days have never heard of these artists. You are bringing them back. Thank you Fil and God bless you!
Thanks, Fil, for another excellent analysis and historical perspective of one of the most famous, talented and popular groups of the '60s!
I like the way you seem to really enjoy music across the genres.
Fil, greaat work then, on timeless music, so much a part of a generation. Thank you.
I hadn't ever heard the comprehensive background to the group you shared. It's a magnificent story. Thanks for telling it!
RIP our beautiful Judith😪
Always thought Judith Durham was a cutie pie, along with having a great voice.
What a doll
Aww man.. I was to young to notice. Now I gotta watch it again just to check her out. Lol ✌️
Such a happy personality too.
And, would you believe, she had dreadful self esteem challenges thru this period of time. Felt she didn't fit the image of a '60s female entertainer. One of the main reasons she left the group
@@allymayful
Hard to believe but true. No modern female voice comes close since the passing of Mama Cass and Karen Carpenter.
Thanks for these videos......and thanks for always having that beautiful smile....your smile is so contagious and always makes me smile 😊
Ahhh, thank god, you're doing the Seekers. How we loved/love them...
I love this channel!
RIP Judith Durham. b 7-3-1942, d 8-5-2022
This was great! What a career history! "I Know I'll Never Find Another You" was s favorite,!
When the Stars Begin to Fall is one of my favourites - TH-cam has a live version of it. Her voice is so beautiful, and as a group they were phenomenal. No gimmicks, just pure talent. There's been no-one like them, before or since.
I Will Never Find Another You is a great song!
My favorite from The Seekers.
Agreed and it's my personal favorite!

Agree!
I seem to remember watching this with my sister and brother in law. Thanks for bringing back great memories and making my 15 again.
