The last chance I got to see The Seekers live was their 2014 Liverpool performance.
What really hit home with me was finally seeing Judith's diminutive physical stature live on stage. Such a delicate, tiny little morsel of humanity, showing the strength and determination to continue on with a farewell tour after all she had been through .... That alone left me spellbound.

Her voice was astonishing, beautiful and unique. Rest in peace Judith.
She uses her vibrato to break her ascending and descending slurs into steps that are equal in terms of both pitch-change and length of time. The vibrato-slurs begin and end on time.

Judith was left with a lung disease after measles as a child. How did she still sing like that? She will be missed so much.

@@riinak7212 I have this disease too after a bad lung infection after flu. The breathing tubes called bronchi in the lungs have been damaged, enlarged and scarred - primarily due to infection. These damaged air passages allow bacteria and mucus to build up and pool in your lungs. This results in frequent infections and blockages of the airways. It is not pleasant.

Thank you for spotlighting Judith Durham, my favorite vocalist ever. It's a shame that Americans had such restricted exposure to The Seekers back in the 60s, mostly due to their manager's lack of promotion. They've been my favorite group for nearly 60 years. Even their 50th Anniversary Reunion concerts were incredible, with many saying they sounded even BETTER than they had in the 60s!
I agree completely. I'm an 89 year old American that has heard them all, and I believe that the Seekers are the best, in large part because of Judith's voice. May she rest in peace.

One thing I just was compelled to mention. Fil, you had the grace to allow the beautiful performance to play through without stop. The "flavor" of her voice is quite reflective of singers from that generation. We the Boomers, have mothers that always seemed to have that gift. I've always disliked this song until now. It's beautiful. Joe Feeney always ruined it when he sang it on Lawrence Welk. The song does lend itself to a female voice rather than a gut busting Irish tenor.
It is a tribute to the great ( and absolutely lovely) Judith Durham that her remarkable voice became the object of this fully professional analysis. As a fan of Judith I wish to thank you for this work.
Some people were born to sing. Judith was one of them.
There aren't many singers who can perform this song so creditably, but Judith delivers in spades, as always. It's like the living air loves her voice.
Such a beautifully polished voice, open throated and consistent through the whole range. I love to hear a singer who sings through the consonants. The emotion and meaning is all there in the phrasing and attention to the way the words flow with the music. Breaks your heart without any excessive gestures or exaggeration, the art of a truly fine singer.

Judith is one of the top female vocalists of my lifetime. Her voice has such a pure, crystalline quality, yet is also very powerful. I never tire of her beautiful tone. I always thought she sounded pitch-perfect, & the graph seems to bear that out.🥰

Australia's first great gift to modern music. Judith is a National treasure and the Seekers were the first group to achieve international success from Down Under.
I learned that she passed the day after it happened last August. I'm still mourning the loss of that incredible voice. I'm so glad I have all the Seekers albums from the very beginning. She died of a lung problem that she had for years and years. Very sad.
The beauty of this wonderful girl and her voice is now lost. I fell in love with her when I saw her singing in the studio with her hands on her hips like she had the 'attitude' going while she sang. Rest in Peace, lovely woman.

In the years just prior to her death it was clear that time and poor health had finally taken its toll on Judiths voice, as they would with anybody ..... but this lady was undoubtedly one of the finest singers ever to grace this planet, she had truly outstanding vocals as this video clearly shows.
WHAT? The opposite is true. Her live vocal performances from the Seekers 50th anniversary tour are simply amazing.
That one brought me to tears. it's a sad song, but the clarity and purity of her voice really hits the heart strings.

I am watching this, with misty eyes, in Melbourne, Judith's hometown, a few days after her death. I grew up listening to this beautiful, angelic voice, a voice all the more remarkable when one knows she suffered from a chronic lung disease (bronchiectasis) from childhood. Thank you for your sensitive and informative analysis. Watching this today, there is an added poignancy because we heard the sad news of the death of another Aussie (albeit born in England) singer, Olivia Newton-John, whose voice you have also analysed in another brilliant video. Thank you for these wonderful insights and analyses.

5/8/2022. The legend has passed. I knew this day would come, as it does for all of us, but it's still such a shock and so sad. Judith's incredible voice helped heal me and I will always be grateful for that. Condolences to Judith's loved ones, especially Athol, Keith, and Bruce. Thank you for music, Judith. Rest in Peace.

Judith Durham was our National Treasure. the Seekers actually pipped the Beatles and the Sones in 1969 with " Georgy Girl".
She was magnifient. My Dad would have tears listening to " The Carnival is Over". Not bad for a bunch of Aussies wgo had to work their way on a Fairstar ship to get to England. Sadly, Judith passed last year. What a voice. They were all good.
BTW I taught guy Athol how to string his Gibson 12 string- another story. Nice to see a youngster like you recognising elderly talent Fil.

I'll be honest, Judith Durham's voice is just as beautiful as Karen Carpenter's voice was, This song, "Danny Boy" is such a beautiful, emotional song, it brought a tear to my eye and it did remind me of Judy Garland's song, "Somewhere over the Rainbow." @Pixie Pete definitely, Judith is in a class all of her own. Sorry but Karen is mediocre, not a huge range, no power, and not Judith's crystalline quality.
@Pixie Pete have you actually ever heard Judith sing classical,? She was classical trained. Also go listen to her sing Jazz, just wow! I would say that Judith's biggest asset, apart from being gorgeous, and that voice, is her ability to truly put a part of herself into any song, and the absolute look of joy on her face. But I do take your point, the only one I personally rank with Judith is Dame Shirley!

Judith Durham has one of the purest voices in Australian music. Fun fact: she and my mother both caught measles in the 1940s Melbourne epidemic, and developed bronchiectasis, which affects the lungs. Despite this, Judith's voice was unparalleled.
I only found out about this after her death. Which makes her voice even more special. Thank you, I was wondering what caused her lung disease.

Fil, Australians have been gutted by a Judith’s recent death. I feel that I’ve known The Seekers (and obviously Judith’s voice), all my life even though I’ve never seen them live. I used to listen to their cassettes and records when I was a very young child to help with my anxiety. I’m an Aussie in my 50s …so they’ve been around for a long time❤️

For our 6th grade moving up ceremony two girls in our class twisted my arm into performing "hey there Georgie girl" acapello with them on the stage for the moving up ceremony. I used to sing in the schools elementary choir. Small school. Matter fact it
was fist time I heard the song!, 1968. Song dates me I guess. One guy between two lookers singing . No complains about that.
Just caught this today. I remember catching your analysis of a singer who was unhappy with the fact she was autotuned, (or maybe you were) and I had just watched your analysis of The Seekers on Ed Sullivan. I said at the time it would be interesting to analyse Judith’s voice, and here it is. As an (almost) lifelong fan of The Seekers, I am so glad YT gives us a chance to see these artists, even after they’re gone. I still listen to Judith's lovely voice and the great backup harmonies of the Seekers at least a few times each month. Anyone who brought that much joy to the world over the decades will surely be allowed to Rest In Peace.

Excellent analysis of Judith's voice, she had a voice a vocal could not teach anything to. First time I heard this version, by the end my eyes were wet for some reason? In the gospel song "When the stars begin to fall" she hits a F# above high C effortlessly. Just an amazing voice, glad you covered her, love the channel.
It’s February 26 - 2023 . I’m just watching this an hour after I heard Judith passed away. Tragic news . Her voice goes right to your heart . I think Fil may have even felt this emotionally . The Seekers had this rare way of arranging, and Judith singing uptempo songs with very sad lyrics - if you reflect on them - “ I’ll Never Find Another You “ and “ Georgy Girl “ ( I know I’m a natural born pessimist ) RIP JD

Karen the female voice of the 70's, what rubbish. Agnetha Falstog has a better voice, Ronstadt, Claire Torrey, there are many better than karen who didn't have much range or power, sorry don't mean to offend, just trying to be factual.
Actually what you have explained are things we as fans know and listen too but we do not know why. We get so drawn in by her voice and cannot stop enjoying her from the start of each song she sings all the way to the end of the song. She is going to be so missed.

Have adored Judith almost all my life. She had the most amazing voice and delivery. Loved this breakdown (& the one for the Seekers that I saw previously). Such a beautiful voice and tone. So glad we had her for so many years. First song I every learned to sing all the way thru was Morning Town Ride when I was about 7 or 8 years old. The Seekers were such a huge part of my childhood music listening, and I never tired of listening to them.
It’s so incredibly rare to find an artist who is basically pitch perfect throughout their entire range, and that is so pleasant to hear by itself. But combine that not only with an amazing tone and resonance, but also a vibrato frequency that is in that very narrow range that is in the comfort zone, and you have a voice which literally flows through you, and warms your soul. You can close yours, lie back and simply get lost in Judith’s voice.

The Seekers were a great Australian folk pop band from the 60's. And Judith had such a beautiful voice. They had so many great hits including "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World Of Our Own", "Georgy Girl", "The Carnival Is Over", "Morningtown Ride", "Someday, One Day" etc. They have beautiful voices & harmonies. They don't make nostalgic music like this anymore. Reminds me of a simpler time.
