Just finished reading ‘Raising Warriors: Preparing Your Children For a Godly Life’ and it really opened my eyes to some new ways of guiding my kids in their faith. Highly recommend it if you’re looking to strenghten your family’s spiritual life
I thought this talk was excellent and I took a lot from it. But that's because I fell in love with the 'idea' of the perfect parenting. Reading the negative comments was actually a huge relief. My parents were not perfect. I am not a perfect mother but I am a good one. Cheers to all the parents doing their best in whatever circumstances you are in, whoever you are :) Variety is what makes the world great.
By focusing on your upbringing alone you're overlooking things like genetics, poverty, geographic location, lack of family support, lack of healthcare, lack of available child development resources, lack of mental health resources, etc. Child development is multifaceted.

I see why, it’s missing proper knowledge of secure attachment and challenges are confused with not understanding children’s needs and feelings/ she’s justifying her parents choices. Read about secure attachment- bowlby and you’ll see the huge difference
I can't relate to any of this cos my parents barely even interacted with me. :\ I feel like she's discussing a pretty upper-class upbringing between her and her peers. Although I think she's right that micromanaging kids is detrimental.

no, there's multiple types of parenting styles. But it is true that it's easier for people with money to parent their children in the way she described her parents raised her.

What everyone seems to be afraid to mention is that children don’t have to stay with their parents from the time that they can get up and crawl. Anyone will take a child into their arms and care for them because their irresistible and no one can give up the opportunity to care for a child. They should go to only the ones that love the most. Even if a child was one years old and crawled right out their parents front door there would be someone to take care of them. There would be no caveats or restrictions other than the ones that capitalists place upon a child rearing and the current fascitisation we are seeing.

100% false. The bond that begins between mother and child starting from in the womb is irreplaceable. What are you even arguing? Do you know how many kids are treated like dirt, abused, neglected etc? If your argument were true none of those said issues would exist and all children would be well cared for lol😂
But employers do reward people for doing a task that was expected of them. This reward is you get paid or even sometimes get a raise. Lol I came here for facts but instead I got this young ladies life experiences and opinions.

Sociologists don’t know why students are not performing very well. not every parent does their children’s applications some kids are calm because they’ve given up and they have depression not because he had helicopter parents. There’s a lot of holes in her argument. I like what she’s putting down or trying to, but at the same time no one knows anyone else in there is a not a very well understood reason as to why kids in college are feeling so much depression, anxiety so on and so forth.
Sound like you have limited exposure to various demographics. Some kids need more guidance than others. For some, sports are the best way to develop and stay out of trouble. I encourage you to learn about groups other than boarding school kids and parents.
Think the point is to let your child explore what they like and support those endeavors; sports, art, etc... not try and mold them into what their parent(s) believe the child should like or do stemming from personal reasons.

I played have danced since I could walk, played soccer, field hockey, basketball, played the flute, and cheer..... but I still love to read books 😭 so this ted talk is my least fav

Thought this was meant to be on [parenting styles.. not just a general assumption that everyone but her own parents has the same parenting style....... I accept some of her points but also wonder if she could have benefitted a little more emotional support as a young child....
I don't feel like I heard a Ted talk. I feel like I heard an uninformed person parroting sound bites the Boomer generation has been whining about for decades, participation trophies and all. She speaks in absolutes, primarily from her own experience. This talk could use a dose of humility, empathy, and sound academic research. I think 10 hypothetical parents could independently follow all of her "tips" without making a single mistake and have 10 completely different results. Either her parents were extremely lucky and she happened to be very responsive to their style, or they were very smart and saw her areas of need and areas of lack of need and now she is taking her success as the "only" way. A form of survivors bias with a hint of confirmation bias. There's no accounting for socioeconomic variance. She almost seems to be desperately trying to rationalize her success and reconcile that with the way her parents treated her. In any case, this felt more like it belonged on PragerU than Tedx. It is basically an opinion piece.
