It looks like you didn't intend for it to happen, but I love how all three pieces ended up with a butterfly theme which unifies them even though each one is a different style than the other two. They all look great. I just recently started painting on canvas, and you've given me an idea about how to add variety to what I create on canvas. Thank you.
My machines won't even think about doing free motion without a darning/embroidery foot. I'm impressed! I'm thinking it works better with the feed dogs up than down is because it gives you a little more support in the fabric. If you had a darning foot on and the feed dogs were down, it'd be about the same distance apart. My machines need the presser foot down so the thread tension stays put.
I think I remember a free motion content creator commenting once that free motion is like riding a bike, if you go really slow its hard to maintain control but if you have confidence to go a little bit faster it's easier to keep on track and get smooth lines.
Very very fun!!! this is a great project, Catherine! Loved watching how you allowed yourself to pivot on your ideas to something that was something you were happy with. They look great!
I liked all of your ideas, but I think the subtlety of the final pieces will be restful and calming as you sew, and won’t compete with your other projects as you plan and execute them.
Wonderful idea and beautifully done. What you’re missing is a free motion foot which will make your life much easier in any free motion projects in the future. And I agree with the other comment about putting a stabilizer like heat and bond on the back so you can Iron your creative additions on before you Free motion QUILT them. Keep seeing and exploring!
Simply lovely, Catherine!! New, bigger sewing room? I know this isn't a DIY decorating channel, but I, for one, would love to see your process of converting to a larger space. (i.e. arranging, organizing, decorating, all of it) Maybe think about it, please? I outgrew my small room when I added my Juki industrial machine. Therefore, I moved to my living room and it's been challenging. I'm a one person household, so I can do what I want.... when I figure that out. Having sewing stuff in two different rooms was exhausting, running back and forth. Thank you for this video, you inspire many of us. Keep on keepin' on.... Btw, LOVE the butterflies!!
Also, when you’re doing free motion quilting on a single layer of background fabric like that, you might wanna put a piece of paper or some cheap stabilizer in the back so that everything stays nice and flat and nothing puckers
Love the butterflies coming out of the picket! You should use a darning foot to protect your fingers from the exposed needle while free motion stitching with feed dogs down for more control. I watch Stitches by Julia on TH-cam; she is a master at free motion. I've never seen her use a hoop.
This is inspiring because I've been thinking for a long time of making a semi functional art piece out of the fabric sample kit I had to buy for design school. I hadn't thought of actually sewing them. I was gonna just mount them somehow but sewing could be good to still be able to feel the textures and things.
Absolutely love your style and I love the three panels. I do hope you share with us the planning decorating and organizing of your new sewing room. I’m very excited for you.!!! thank you so much for bringing us fun videos
Catherine, this was such a creative art project! Love all of the designs and I’m looking forward to seeing them displayed in your new sewing room. Thanks for sharing this inspirational idea.
Catherine, you continue to amaze and inspire me. If there was a class at the local community college taught by someone like you, I'd be there in a heartbeat. On another note: I had asked you about using a children's pajama pattern made for woven with a double knit fabric. I chickened out because I was on a deadline. Since it was for my grandchildren, I bought an another pattern intended for knits. I plan to ado a comparison though after the first of the year. Merry Christmas!
Thank you!! Love your videos. I have the foot for free motion. I haven't used it for a project yet. Mainly practicing because it's it's own type thing. Looks easy, but it takes patience and sewing slowly. Thank you for sharing your experience. And omg, I wish I could find canvas at VV for 4 bucks. But maybe it's because I continually look for big ones. They always seem to be about 25 bucks. I'll keep looking. I made a bag from one before and it really turned out well. Anyway love your videos so much. Really look forward to them.
Lovely! But to protect your beautiful hands, please wear a cut resistant glove on your left hand if you're going to rotary cut free hand. A Life Long Quilter
Dont't forget to sign your art! Some people find it daunting to put a signature (or identifing mark) on there creations or think it not worthy, but please sign it somewhere, even if you hide it on the back. Should no one in you family want to keep it, someone picking it up at a thrift store might want to know the artist's name.🪡🧵🎨
Heat n bond on the back of
the denim tree would work great

Love all three creations funny how we start out with one idea and our creative minds take it ina new direction!
I liked all of your ideas, but I think the subtlety of the final pieces will be restful and calming as you sew, and won’t compete with your other projects as you plan and execute them.

Love these.

Love them all! I found Thoughtful Creativity but not the video you mention on free motion, I'd love to see it. Take care and feel better!
I love them all! Looks like fun, I may try something like it. :)
Wow! Love these. I recently saw a cactus made from jeans material. I'm going to give it a go and also try an idea on canvas. You're inspirational!

All three are interesting, and beautiful. How do you clean them in the future?
Ive never got a framed canvas from an art store. I can get blank ones for $5-8 a discount/dollar type store (Reject Shop in Australia)
I loved your ideas. I am wondering though why could you not just glue the pieces on instead of sewing?
I love Elisa’s channel, too! May I recommend another channel you might glean from? Stitches by Julia.
❤your channel ❤
What type of presser foot do you use? It seems transparent?
Lovely! But to protect your beautiful hands, please wear a cut resistant glove on your left hand if you're going to rotary cut free hand.
A Life Long Quilter
you need an embroidery foot
Love your work! If you are interested in thread painting watch Stitches by Julia ,she is a master of sewing as well.
