I've never been to the US but after watching a lot of Peter's videos, that it's a land of extremes. In many ways it's one of the most awe inspiring places on earth, in others like that philadelphia video with the terrible drug problems, it's very shocking, at least to non-American eyes like mine.
The poor everywhere need more respect. Peter Santenello, you are brave because you care.

Cruising the "dumps of the Hamptons" used to be great High School fun for most of my NE friends. Locals are rough, drink Schlitz, and carry knives in bars.

Long Island in general is becoming a congested hell hole. My only wish is that I left sooner. The once industrious island has zero significant industry, beyond bloated govt, and sky high property prices that the employment opportunities don't seem to justify. My friends that are left seem to notice a tend of whites leaving for Florida and North Carolina, Blacks for South Carolina and Georgia, and they're replaced by Hispanics who pay egregious sums for their houses and I guess happily assume the existing debt load. The Hispanic buyers seem to be trading up (possibly not) from low taxed but highly priced residences in Queens and Brooklyn. I'm not sure who they are selling out to but I suspect its more foreigners than yuppie types. Oh. And every town has some overpriced apartment or condo project near whats left of the LIRR. None of it makes any sense to me.

This dude just moved out to the hamptons one day at like 22 to become a surfer and fisherman. that kinda freedom doesn't exist anymore.
Yes and no but it can't be argued that we've become a nanny state full of dependents and micro managers. It used to be totally normal for people to hitch hike and stop and camp alongside the road where ever they pleased. There are still wild places left but I'm as guilty as most of not going to them. I'm actually more troubled at few people even strive for freedom and independence. I wish I could find some more younger people to join me in my antics. My older friends 50s and 60s defiantly have a better outlook on life.

The rich want there fresh seafood so over there fishing still works. The rest of us can barely afford frozen farm raised crap.
I do think more of the younger people are dependent on someone else these days, but i think that is mainly a consequence of lack of social mobility and everything being so unaffordable
The year rounders in ocean communities are always the lucky ones & thats if they can afford to stay. Locals are being priced out of ocean communities that they built like the one i grew up more & more every year. Its sad because theres nothing like growing up on the ocean.

I grew up in Southold, NY. I was born at Southampton hospital. My friend played Billy Joel's daughter in a school tennis match. I moved to SC in 2002, and have not been back home since. I miss Long Island. I hope one day I can bring my husband and our daughter to LI.

my wife and I were this summer in montauk for 4 days. As europeans from switzerland, we knew that the hamptons are one of the most expensiv places on earth. but we suprised how boujie and uperclass montauk was. we thought it is more like a surfer village. we think that they want to be the new st. tropez or something like that. anway we loved it. was beautiful place on our planet
If you ever venture back over & havent been, cape cod & the coast of maine are just as beautiful.

Awesome channel i lived on Nantucket from 1999 until 2003 both these places are similar i can't imagine what a pack of smokes cost and the gas prices must be astronomical these days on those islands the summer was decent on Nantucket the winters you feel landlocked native Nantucket folks can't drive off island no street lights out there just stop signs it took me awhile to figure out where the hell i was every house looks identical in the winter you see the same folks every day that was awkward at times matter of fact during 911 i was building a cobble stone apron a part of the island called Tom Nevers me and a guy from El Salvador was listening to the radio in the truck while we were working and heard the whole thing over the radio i could see smoke from NY at first i thought it was just the radio guy raising hell i worked a 12 hour day when i got to the shop my boss said Jay man you hear what's happening i said yeah but i gotta make money too

Come to Maine , and do a report on the rent prices. 4 years ago i rented an apt on the oceanfront 1000$ a month everything included. Now its 1500, with only heat and elec included. Its literally 3 rooms too. Craziness, how they expect the town to run off general laborers, yet, those people cant afford to live in these areas anymore. Camden- Waldoboro area
It’s looks so rustic and unspoiled. The locals are very lucky though the prices seem ridiculous.
Peter- i try to tell anyone who will listen to watch you. I think you give the best tales about places. you look at all sides and actually ask hard questions all while showing respect for the places and people. I watch a few others but to me they are kind of rude and not respectful when they are in other peoples towns. Keep it up sir.

I used to spend my winters at Gosman"s dock resturaunt & fish market in the 80's doing off seasons construction as a late teen with my parrent's company. I always looked foward to it as a life long Long Islander....It has a lifeforce like no other place I have been to. I never say lifeforce.
