    We have been using the Garmin 1090 units for almost 3 years in our DP and would not travel without them. We actually purchased two units. One is dash mounted for the driver ( a little closer to the driver than you mounted) and the other is for the co-pilot and is mounted to the side window glass (w/ included suction cup). Co-pilot can then follow along, look ahead and make changes. Magnetic attachment works great for swapping them out if trip modifications are made. The 2nd unit also insures that the driver does not have to fidget with the unit while on the move. Back seat driving brought into the 21st Century! 😉🤣

      You have the IDEAL setup where the Co=Pilot is in charge of navigating, and your screen is to just keep you informed! LOVE that you can hot swap out screens that the co-pilot can update with additional way-stops in real time along the way that get added!

    you skipped the most important detail. How do you actually input an address. The logic is kinda backwards. First, you type number, then street and then you get address could not be found. It's totally idiotic. Not being able to find any company like on google map, makes this garmin nav a damn expensive paper weight ! Definitely not worth the money

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have to say that without even knowing it, we have seemed to adapt to the various tricks to make "almost" every destination or address work. It takes some patience to find out the quirks. When we do have an issue, we will just iput the address of business name next door to or near the final stop.

    Our 770 has most of the features y'all commented on except the live traffic uses your phone and cost extra(we don't use) we use google or Waze. Is the live weather radar and traffic included or is it an extra charge. The main gripe I have with the 770 is it's inability to understand what I'm saying. It's not even close most of the time, unless you're looking for something You've already found and saved. On the New one did you try modifying your route to change the route to go down (,or avoid) a certain road. They need to use Google's voice recognition system. It's way better. I would like a bigger screen but not if it's a lot of money. Might get a 10" tablet with google and Waze and using my hotspot from my phone. Thanks for doing this review. Wish they would gift me one. LOL. Safe travels. 😊

      Live weather and traffic is included. Their is no additional charges for anything. The RV1095 requires learning the dialect it prefers! Sue would have to comment on the route changes on the fly. She uses an ipad with Google Maps if we detour, and just lets Garmin play the catch-up "recalculate" game! The key feature of Garmin it is satellite based, and not phone/cell based. In the middle of nowhere, phones will fail you!

      We have the exact XL Friction Mount in our Amazon Store. The magnetic mount INCLUDED with the RV1095 has a socket connection on it that gets re-used with the XL Bean Bag Mount. The magnetic mount with the charger port would be too expense to have NOT re-use it! We love the bean bag,.........we have a Shadepro Company carpet on our dash to provide the surface the bean bag needs to stay put.

    Sue, we use RV Trip Wizard for trip planning (I think you do too?). My dh likes using the RV Life app on his phone, because he can just pull up our next stop on whatever trip we’re in. He has tried using other GPS systems or apps, and he hates having to enter destinations manually. (Maybe I just put us in obscure places, who knows?🤷‍♀️) Have you found a way to integrate these two tools? Or are you just used to entering your destination manually, given you’ve always used the Garmin?

      We like the opposite. We input each days travel start and finish locations. The more you do that the easier it gets. Sue has gotten good at knowing what "style" of address is needed. The selections that pop up as "selection suggestions" from the RV1095 when you ask for a destination has proven to be way better than our RV770 that we have to type in!

    from Amazon reviews: I have been using it for 3 weeks in my car, but with the specs for my RV. Multiple times it has taken me down a path that does not have vertical clearance for the 12' 5" tall RV. The car was fine, but the RV would have been turned into a convertible.

      I think you have discovered proof positive that the Garmin warning system is only as good as the third party global GPS mapping data it is presenting from the US Defense Department. You need to still be vigilant while driving. Garmin uses the latest WGS84 US government system. Check out the great Wikipedia Article on GPS Systems: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Geodetic_System

    Great video but I have a question. If you are traveling at 57mph and have 21 miles to the exit, why did the Garmin say you would be turning in just under 18 minutes? The math doesn't add up, but that won't stop me from buying one. Happy Travels- Tom & Merry

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Garmin always assumes at any given moment calculation. you will be traveling @ the posted speed limit. Then the calculation will bounce back to your current location, and the tell you again how long you have left. If you parked the car 21 miles from the turn, it would use the posted speed limit and tell you that it is 18 minutes to your turn. Your arrival time would keep increasing 1 minute every minute.

    Sue, well done as usual. You have also done several video's on trip planning wit RV Life Trip Wizard. I'd like to see the transition you do to put your Trip Wizard plan into the Garmin GSP. Does the Garmin allow for waypoints so you can enter pre-planned fuel or food stops? Thanks

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Matt, I do not import our Trip Wizard trip into the Garmin. I find it easier for us just to put the address or name of our next destination into Garmin after we have already planned our trip in Trip Wizard. I like to compare their routes since they are both set up for out length, weight and height. Usually they are alike but when there are some differences, I'll look at them and choose the one I'm comfortable with. This channel (th-cam.com/video/TgFLv3aD9uI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=RiversToRidgesRV) did a video on how to import from TW to Garmin. It just seems like a lot of steps compared to just typing in our next destination. However, I have not tried to import so maybe I'm wrong.
      You can add waypoints to your Garmin trip. Choose where you want to go and it will ask if you want to Add to Active Route, Start a New Route, Add as Next Stop or Add as Last stop. Hope this helps.

    We have the 8 inch version and have given up using it because of so many errors. One example was while driving south on I-5it directed us to take an exit, then proceed straight ahead to return to the I-5. No logic to this. In another example, it kept advising to make a left turn, but there was no roadway, only a farmers field. We have found Google maps so much more reliable. I could never recommend one of the Garmin units.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles

      We agree that multiple route planning sources should be used, but I personally need an info screen like the Garmin to be able to drive alone. When we travel, 99% of the time Sue is juggling multiple sources. Yes,.......we deviate from Garmin sometimes. No one source is infallible. The few times I had to travel alone, I spend time on google, verified my route, compare it to Garmin, and used the Garmin to execute the trip! You have to find your style and comfort zone.

      Totally understand. We like to have both of our iphones free to use as needed, and our ipad on Google Maps. We don't want the driver to be tempted to "hold" any device, and like the flexibility of the bean bag mount and the ability of the passenger to grab it and interact with it. As the driver, I fiddle with virtually nothing but the radio. Sue isn't crazy about apple Maps. We have zero experience with CarPlay. We do like talking to the Garmin. We still love and use the RV Life Trip Wizard PLANNER. We NEVER used it for navigation. It plots our approx. route from which we then select our overnight/weekly/monthly stays. It tracks everything in an excel spreadsheet on the left side panel, with mileage & travel time between stops. Actual Navigation Sue does with Google, Garmin , Trip Wizard and a Truckers App on the iPad. She decides on the fly which one to trust when they conflict! They all conflict at least 25% of the time.

I've got the Nuvi 2797 with voice command and if you don't ask it just right - you will not get it. The bad thing is the voice commands differ between the Garmin RV GPS and the in-dash van GPS so I never remember which phrase to say. 😺We have a 2012 Honda Odyssey. We love it. We were, however , told that the VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) feature that deactivates firing three cylinders, will cause oil burning to develop. It’s a manufacturing defect, because when running on three cylinders, the block is experiencing asymmetrical heating that slightly warps the shape of some cylinders.
    I popped in a SMART VCM device that keeps the engine always firing all six cylinders, and this solved the oil burning and will extend the life of the engine. Plus I love how much better it drives. And we were told by the dealer service that we were going to need three rings and three spark plugs done at $4000!!! No further deterioration and no more oil burning, so we saved $$$.
    I like the name of your motorhome. I travel around in a MYLES too, 24 hours a day! 😹

    Good review. We have been using the Garmin RV 1090 for 1.5 years and really like it. The screen is so customizable, especially the right third of the screen. My two biggest complaints is I like to build my multiple stop trip in RV Trip Wizard and export the trip and download to the Garmin but the Garmin does not accept the file very good. Also building a multi stop trip in the Garmin one stop at a time, if you make a mistake and put in a stop as the final destination I can’t find a way to enter any other stops. Other than those two complaints I really think this is the best RV GPS on the market.

      Sue adds in intermediate stops all the time as we travel in real time. When I decide I need fuel or a rest stop, she will ask Garmin for the options coming up, select one, and then adds it to the route. As she explained in the video, you need to FIRST practice that function at the kitchen table with a coffee, NOT while driving. She discovered you have to use certain words, like NOT "en route" or "in route" but say ON ROUTE. Take the time to master adding in "route additions or way points", and you will be thankful.

    Sue, I love it with the good course you gave me. But the price is wholly Jesus not too cheap. But one thing I hate is the wire on the left could have a 90 degree angle connector, I can’t believe that they couldn’t have done better than that big loop of wire in evidence and in the way.
    Thanks again to you both !!!

      We actually have it hooked up odd in the video. The more normal and expected way is to have the magnetic base powered, so your navigator can quickly remove the unit and have it in their lap as it continues to run off battery power. We just changed over to this way to power it, which DOES HAVE a 90 degree connector. This way is a 12v cigarette socket plug. The magnetic mount with the RV1095 has a socket connection on it that gets re-used with the XL Bean Bag Mount. The magnetic mount with the charger port would be too expense to have NOT re-used it! Good luck. Hi Mark and Sue. I have been using my Garmin 770 in my Baystar for 4 years now. It is a necessary evil. It has let me down several times by having go out of my way or go to the wrong street to enter a RV park. I also use Google Maps at the same time. Most of the times they don't agree with each other. So I have to decide on the fly which one to believe. (I travel alone) The Google map is correct more times than the Garmin 770. Since the Garmin 770 has my weight and height I use it when not sure. Garmin has some issues in my book. Safe travels. Don

Might as well request one with a tag axle too!!!! Question: For Fuel Stops, does it indicate if the stop can accommodate your length/ size? I’m assuming so since the Garmin knows your dimensions. But wanted to make sure it can make that distinction regarding Gas Stations. ~Big C in the DP 📢 ::: Air Horn 📢 ::: ::: Air Breaks! ::: 🚌🚌🚌

    • @OurJourneyInMyles

      Hey Carlal,.......I am going to GUESS that the Garmin DOES NOT and WILL NOT make any distinction about wether or not the fuel stop you selected is RV friendly. That is why Sue & I ONLY fuel at TRUCK STOPS, and has consequently become a "no-brainer" exercise for us. We use the Open Roads fuel discount program. Garmin's checks are for roads, bridges, speed limits, traffic zones, ferry's, tolls, speed camera's,......etc.
