Can’t get over the price. I hate using my phone (camera shaking to death, battery discharging faster than it charges, ~110F Texas summers causing the phone to shutdown), but the zumo price is brutal.

Garmin can’t deliver good software to save their life. They just release new products with new issues. Unfortunately, they don’t have a lot of competition in many of their product groups so they remain the best option.

Garmin needs to do much better with their software and product ecosystem. Overpriced for what you are getting.

Exactly! Switching from phone navigation to Garmin device is complicated as f***! Trip, track, route, 29 points, convert to something else, re-calculation! I was preparing for the trip longer than it lasted!😫

I replaced my 660 with the XT2 about a year ago. I love the XT2 as a GPS unit. It's hard to believe, but I think the Tread app may actually be worse than Basecamp. The unit does work well with my phone, though, giving media and alerts. Unfortunately, the alerts are turned on and off by category, not per app, which is a major pain.

Garmin's prices are insane. Even the older XT is over-priced. I come from the tech world so I know the cost of manufacturing and the XT/XT2 devices should easily be in the $400 range. So 'Big G' is charging you for software too essentially. And why not? They have ZERO competition really. Since I have no off-road experience, I'll say that as far as street riding goes, the biggest problem is that Garmin's software is total user hostile garbage. I've had numerous Garmin GPS devices over the years and I stopped using them bc car navigation systems are better. For the on-road motorcycle, using your phone is easier, cheaper and makes more sense if you do it right. Get a good phone mount that offers anti-vibration (sometimes I don't mount it, I just keep it in my breast pocket and use earbuds or a Cardo) and simply download a very large area of maps so you don't need to rely on cell towers if you do travel to areas without a signal. Example - I keep a 5 state area on my phone at all times and Google Maps updates it regularly and automatically. I haven't needed a Garmin in years. For off-road, a Garmin is probably critical but for the streets....no.

Phone doesn’t work in the south in the summer. All it does overheat and the screen goes dim to preserve the battery. GPS is the only option for me. It’s also nice that the Zumo touchscreen works easily with gloves.

You’re riding not programming a computer for a Mars mission.
Why don’t these companies make an Apple CarPlay like simple interface with access to your other apps. That’s why the mobile is popular, simple and works

Disappointing overview. Main features of the XT2 vs XT1 weren't even mentioned:
    • visual on-device route planning
    • popular moto paths map overlay (I use this quite a bit)
    • ability to host group/connected rides

    • @rockyk3973
      @rockyk3973 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

If what is meant by "visual on device route planning" is the ability create a route by panning and zooming around/in the main map screen by tapping the locations of successive waypoints to create a route on the fly, this can in fact be done on the XT1.
The result of interactively doing the above becomes the current active route being navigated (and the route gets recalculated after each new waypoint is added). This Active Route can be viewed at any point in the Trip Planner under "My Active Route". As you tap on the map to successively and interactively add waypoints (tap a new waypoint location and hit Go!) you will be prompted as to where in the active route you want to add it.
That said, in order to do detailed edits of the partial or final result beyond just adding waypoints (or not lose the resulting active route accidentally) you will want to go into the Trip Planner, tap on My Active Route and tap Save. You can then safely proceed to edit or rearrange points in detail without losing your work if you screw up as in the case of a mistake in editing (or terminating by accident) the My Active Route.
Hope that helps clarify that the XT1 does in fact have visual, on the fly interactive route creation (similar to what phone based apps like InRoute or Scenic have albeit not nearly as polished or comprehensive.)
I have not yet had access to an XT2 to see how it differs from the XT1 for visual route planning (or if its better or more polished) but the XT1 does have this feature.

yeah, every single RevZilla review should be like this -- often they note a couple flaws, but this was a little more real.
Since it seems to be the only game around, I'm still thinking on it, but with more reluctance and hesitation.

I looked hard at this and liked Garmin from 20 and 10 yrs ago. However, I just ordered the Samsung Rugged Active5 tablet (could have gotten the Active3 tablet) and will load the various SW apps on it. Arrives tomm.

Why anyone want connect to battery using Raw wire?! I don’t get it why not just put USB
Connection to battery not good it will drown power. Instead connection to USB will turn on or off when bike turns on.

I’ve taken the older version the Zumo XT on multiple dirt trails and a 2500 mile round trip for a BDR. It was fine & I’ve had it 4 years now. But, the way my Zumo is mounted is sitting behind the windshield on my GSA. So no direct dust is being forced toward the unit.

Just purchased a new Zumo 396 for $225 because I just cant possibly justify $500 for the XT2 or even $400 for the XT. I'm sure the newer ones are nicer but for how I want to use it I think the 396 will serve me 80% as well for half the cost.

RevZilla goes over the features of products to help people learn more about the product, I'd hardly call a brand doing that exact same thing for 15 years on TH-cam "marketing influencers promoting their channel". Enjoy the free content and take it a bit less serious.
