If you could see one actor or director react to their respective Honest Trailer, who would it be? One: Speak up and join the conversation- we encourage respectful debate. Two: Respect your community- racism, misogyny, homophobia and hate speech aren’t tolerated. Three: “Be nice.” - Dalton from Roadhouse
Every now and then I like revisiting some of these older commentaries. I wish Dan and Joe the best in their new ventures but I really miss seeing these three together talking movies
I don’t remember which trailer it was but after a very long time without making stares montages, they brought them back for one movie and it was like seeing an old friend. Literal goosebumps. I guess only us who’ve been watching these from the beginning remember.
i know its a small point, but you should link the honest trailer in the description :) especially as TH-cam loves to mess with the sub boxes and i dont get screen junkies stuff
Loki Doki This is a good idea. It always makes it even easier for people to go watch the HT in question. Sure YT usually has it in the recommended/related videos but it does occasionally mess these things up so a link in the description wouldn’t hurt.
I find that the HT and the commentary are rarely in each other's recommended videos because they are on two different YT channels. If the link to the HT was in the commentary video's description, and the link to the commentary was in the HT video's description then they would ALWAYS be in each other's recommended videos list.
Agreed! It would be great if I could pause this video; find the link in the description; open it in a new tab; watch the honest trailer; then come back here and watch this with the trailer fresh in my mind. That would be fun. :)
They usually do honest trailers for movies that are going to be released. Also, they said they are doing something that is very good. Another word for very good is incredible.
At first I thought they were alluding to the word Fantastic... and I only just now realized that the name Incredibles is a direct reference to the fantastic four... i feel dumb
That movie a wrinkle in time reminds me of a family guy episode where the hole episode was just a dream. (I'm talking about) the episode where the griffin family survived the apocalypse and they go to a town that has a twinkie factory, stewie was trip into toxic waste and turns him into an octopus and he layed 100'0000 eggs and in the end everything was just a dream. That's how this movie was just a dream too (spoiler alert) the movie made me learn a lesson.
Also, the music for it is "Great Expectations" by Chapell Music. If you go to that song's TH-cam comment section, it's nothing but jokes about stares and flares.
Ya the books was weird, but had the advantage of preceding at the readers pace. Unless you were shot gunning it for an equally nonsensical book report in the 5th grade. This movie is like watching someone try to walk with both legs that are asleep/numb. But it never tells or shows you why both legs are asleep.
Sure, the book is weird, but it also knew what it is about. Hint: It is NOT about a girl finding her self-esteem. It is more about the merit of not living to your own tune. It's also a pretty small story all things considered, not some giant action spectacle.
Bullies will attack anything. I was bullied for losing my father to cancer. Children are ferocious animals who go for the throat. Bullies prey on every weakness.
I was bullied in middle school. The principal was a horrible person who would always side with the bullies. The teachers would turn a blind eye to bullying happening in front of them because they didn’t want to get involved. The whole school system was so bad, including the restrooms not working, having only ten minutes to eat lunch and then be forced to stand outside in the school yard during the winter time without our coats because they were in homeroom. The way bullying is portrayed in films, in real life it’s worse.
when an honest trailer fails to meet or satisfy my expectations, I'm really happy that this HT commentary existed to really go into detail like your personal thoughts, deleted jokes and additional details that's not explained. I now hoped you've kept the deleted stuff on the final cut of the honest trailer.
Joe! The Dark is Rising! Over Sea Under Stone, Greenwitch, and so on? Deep young adult novel cuts right there. I read those books were great reading as a youngster.
OMG, thank you Joe for mentioning "The Dark is Rising" I kept trying to remember that book series but I can only remember the front cover and right when you said the title I looked it up and I was like finally! I've been trying to figure that one out for the longest time.
Dan, the layers situation I think just isn't much of a West Coast thing. It gets quite cold on the East Coast. Not everyone layers up, but I'm not the only one I know who does. Also Matt Christopher books are perfect for preteen boys who can't play sports.
The book isn't *that* crazy, if anything they tried making it crazier than it already was. Zach Galifainakis, the leaf Pokemon transformation, the attacking forest scene, the Man with the Red Eyes, and so on...
You guys should have kept those extra Matthew Mcconaughey lines in the actual Honest Trailer. That part of the Honest Trailer was hilarious and the more the better. I now want an audiobook of inspirational quotes read by Matthew McConaughey.
i remember the “power of stares” Lived that gag. I really wanted it for Force Awakens, for how Rey and Kylo tap into the Force. but that trailer was packed, and it’s good to retire old gags.
Perhaps Ava Duvernay wanted to do this because she thought it could be her Labyrinth & it just wasn't. I don't know if it was the story or the over reliance on CGI that spoiled it. I wanted to like it, it was in my wheelhouse but when I saw the Disneyland featurette I knew it wasn't going to be good
I could not believe how badly they ruined the movie for Ella Enchanted! I loved that book and I think it could make a good movie if they actually stick to the source material.
Stares montages are the best, I didn't realize you dropped it because you thought no one cared anymore. Bring it back please! At least for a sendoff joke where you do it and maybe the epic voice guy freaks out about how that's not funny/relevant anymore.
Bring back the stare montage. Also, I would love to see the Honest Trailers Commentaries for the Superman IV: The Quest for Piece. That is the best Honest Trailer ever. How about some commentaries on the old stuff?
If you could see one actor or director react to their respective Honest Trailer, who would it be?
One: Speak up and join the conversation- we encourage respectful debate.
Two: Respect your community- racism, misogyny, homophobia and hate speech aren’t tolerated.
Three: “Be nice.” - Dalton from Roadhouse
Edgar Wright, any of his films
ScreenJunkies News Michael bay because you tear it apart but since that’s not gonna happen Wes Anderson cuz I wanna hear his thoughts
Christopher and Jonathan Nolan
It would be nice to have Taika Waititi for his Thor Ragnarok HT Reaction
Mel Gibson on any of his "historical" films
Every now and then I like revisiting some of these older commentaries. I wish Dan and Joe the best in their new ventures but I really miss seeing these three together talking movies
Oh my goodness! Me too!
They should reunite and do a show using the wonders of Zoom.
@@theborttheThey've done it!!
Still rewatching the OG trio commentaries.
How could people forget stares? That's a classic!
I would love stares montages!!! Bring em back!!!!
Stares [S.T.A.R.E.S - Slowly Turning Acting Reacting Emoting Silently] and Flares music: Chappell Music - Great Ambition.
I don’t remember which trailer it was but after a very long time without making stares montages, they brought them back for one movie and it was like seeing an old friend. Literal goosebumps. I guess only us who’ve been watching these from the beginning remember.
So, it came back for Joker ;)
I would've laughed at 'stares' just for the call back. The McConaughey voice was perfect, suitably weird & also very funny
I STILL have the stares song on my playlist. funniest thing ever
What song is it? You've got me curious now.
The Stare compilation! Those were hilarious! The Music in the background make it perfect
i know its a small point, but you should link the honest trailer in the description :) especially as TH-cam loves to mess with the sub boxes and i dont get screen junkies stuff

Stares and Flares montages are one of my favourite bits! That and Benny Hill montages with Star Wars wipes.
Next weeks trailer is going to be "INCREDIBLE!!!"...
I bet next week is the Incredibles honest trailer.
*REALLY* , what have you that idea
They usually do honest trailers for movies that are going to be released. Also, they said they are doing something that is very good. Another word for very good is incredible.
OR maybe they're just going to go back and beat on Fan4stic again simply for spite's sake.
At first I thought they were alluding to the word Fantastic... and I only just now realized that the name Incredibles is a direct reference to the fantastic four... i feel dumb
could be the great gatsby
Bring back the stares!! That's why something is missing from Honest Trailers these days. There's no stares.
This Honest Trailer Commentary is better then the movie A Wrinkle In Time!
Never forget the power and glory of the stares and lens flares montages
Of course we remember the stares! You should definitely bring it back!
Also, the music for it is "Great Expectations" by Chapell Music. If you go to that song's TH-cam comment section, it's nothing but jokes about stares and flares.
I haven’t watched the video yet and I can guarantee you that next week’s Honest Trailer will be incredible.
Just saying, Epic Voice Guy does a great McConnaughy impression.
Of Course do I remember the stares! Please bring this running gag back, it is hilarious.
The stares are the best part of honest trailers for me
I loved the Twilight stares montage! Those HTs were some of my favorites.
I remember the stares. That was awesome. lol
Loved the stares!!
I remember Stares and I would love to have it back
Great Ambition is a great song! I would love to see the stares come back.
I remember the stare montages! They were soooo funny 😆
I would've loved a stares compilation for this movie! Always a win!
Are movies allowed to be weird if the book they were based on was also weird??
Because this book was WEIRD
Aren't most of the really weird plot points lifted from the book anyway? The weird bullying, the crazy dreamscape, the too-serious sayings

Hey that trailer made me learn something!
Apparently not, it was a critical disappointment and a financial failure.
STARES is iconic
have loved the stares montage, i would love it if you do bring it back
John did an amazing job on this video. Epic Voice Guy 2020!
Totally do a stares joke again. They're awesome.
Can you do some Mel brooks honest trailers? Spaceballs or producers or blazing saddles?
Blazing Saddles, for real. A movie that couldn't be made today.
DontStareAtTheSun if you want to talk about Mel Brookes movies that wouldn't be made today the producers is pretty high up there
And they even break the 4th wall on all the mess they get to cover. Including the characters. That film blew my mind. So much insanity
Are y'all crazy? Stares are the reason I'm subbed.
I was bullied for having seizures when I was in elementary so yeah kids can be cruel.
The way bullying is portrayed in films, in real life it’s worse.
6:33 "I literally had flashbacks" this bit is always so funny to me lmao
Yes, do the stares/flares again !
LOVE the stares/flares sequences!
when an honest trailer fails to meet or satisfy my expectations, I'm really happy that this HT commentary existed to really go into detail like your personal thoughts, deleted jokes and additional details that's not explained.

We remember the stares! Bring them back.
Joe! The Dark is Rising! Over Sea Under Stone, Greenwitch, and so on? Deep young adult novel cuts right there. I read those books were great reading as a youngster.
I still read that series once a year!
Encyclopedia Brown had his own HBO tv series. I don’t think there was ever a movie
I've never seen or read this IP. But based on these clips. Why not make an animation like Spirited away? There'd be a lot less uncanny Vally
I remember stares! Please bring them back! It always cracks me up!
Stares in Twilight was great! Stare music is great!
Of course we remember stares!!!!
OMG, thank you Joe for mentioning "The Dark is Rising" I kept trying to remember that book series but I can only remember the front cover and right when you said the title I looked it up and I was like finally! I've been trying to figure that one out for the longest time.

Love the stares montage
LOL after hearing this review/trailer/commentary I think I'll watch it with my mom because I think she might enjoy it
The book isn't *that* crazy, if anything they tried making it crazier than it already was. Zach Galifainakis, the leaf Pokemon transformation, the attacking forest scene, the Man with the Red Eyes, and so on...
Was not ready for a Matt Christopher reference. That took me back to elementary school.
The stares montages were hilarious! If it fits into a trailer you should absolutely bring it back.
I vividly remember the stares from the twilight series. Love the music that goes with it. It is pure genius.
You guys should have kept those extra Matthew Mcconaughey lines in the actual Honest Trailer. That part of the Honest Trailer was hilarious and the more the better. I now want an audiobook of inspirational quotes read by Matthew McConaughey.
Please do an It Could Have bBeen Worse!!!!!!!
For The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising, could that would be a test of their skills.
I totally remember the stares/flares montage and that would have been awesome to see again.
excellent camera work this episode!!
Can confirm, trees breathing is how you know it's starting.
i remember the “power of stares” Lived that gag. I really wanted it for Force Awakens, for how Rey and Kylo tap into the Force. but that trailer was packed, and it’s good to retire old gags.
I've been waiting for Hollywood to ruin Warrior Cats for years
Perhaps Ava Duvernay wanted to do this because she thought it could be her Labyrinth & it just wasn't. I don't know if it was the story or the over reliance on CGI that spoiled it. I wanted to like it, it was in my wheelhouse but when I saw the Disneyland featurette I knew it wasn't going to be good
who doesn't remember the stares??? that is classic honest trailer content!!!
A modern Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys universe that feels closer to a younger Veronica Mars.
Or season 1 Riverdale.
Maybe Spencer can do a reboot comparison between Robocop and Dredd, good reboot vs terrible?
The lisa franktrix joke was awesome!
You need to do The Care Bears Movie from the eighties, solely so you can do a montage sequence of "Care Bear Stares"
I remember the stares
Oh my Dan Encyclopedia Brown books were the entire basis of my childhood
The Tripods Trilogy. Awesome books, halfway decent BBC production that went off the rails in season 2.
I could not believe how badly they ruined the movie for Ella Enchanted! I loved that book and I think it could make a good movie if they actually stick to the source material.
dairyfairy6166 It was a Travesty. Horrible.
yes, totally agree
Bring back the stares!!
I remember the stare montages and I miss them, too!
I remember the 'stares'.
Entertaining video as always! And like Joe said the book is just as insane..... I didn't understand what I was reading half the time.
Stares montages are the best, I didn't realize you dropped it because you thought no one cared anymore. Bring it back please! At least for a sendoff joke where you do it and maybe the epic voice guy freaks out about how that's not funny/relevant anymore.
Jaw dropped at Dan's Reese Witherspoon burn! "She's like this 3million year old star." "But who does she play in the movie?"
Of course we remember stares
My girlfriend and I love the stares montages. We laugh so hard at them. Would love to see it come back.
it's 2019 and the 'stares' are a classic!
I remember "stare" montages! Those are great!
Loved those Matt Christopher books, especially Catcher with a Glass Arm and The Kid Who Only Hit Homer’s!
I always love the stares!
0:30 when dan wants to laugh but is pissed about him not finishing the draft
These are the best
Everyone remembers the power of stares
Matt christopher books are amazing
I love the Stares. So great!
I LOVED Encyclopedia Brown!
There was a Mister Men TV series here in the UK a while back, narrated by Arthur Lowe aka Captain Mainwaring in Dads Army.
I remember, and love, the stares!
I love the stares! :D :D You could put it in everything and I would still find it hilarious :D
"We were four minutes into the Honest Trailer when the second edible kicked in."
Of COURSE I remember stares! Classic.
"Turn it down, stalker eyes."
Better than... anything else related to this subject.
Do you know the name of the song playing in the backgroud?
I remember stares!
Bring back the stare montage. Also, I would love to see the Honest Trailers Commentaries for the Superman IV: The Quest for Piece. That is the best Honest Trailer ever. How about some commentaries on the old stuff?
Bring back the stareflare!
