I think it's better without the backseats , you could easily take the cage thing out and organise the back for storage. It's a really utilitarian two seater general purpose off road/agricultural vehicle and it's great!
you should see the suzuki carry, same engines just swapped the 4x4 capability for 3x cargo capacity. Perfect donor car for electric farm machinery experiments
Love mine, does an honest 36mpg around local roads! And you can take that cage out, then the seats go back and recline. The passenger seat reclines right back so you can get long things in.
I had a 1988 SJ410 High Roof as a daily 20 years ago, took away the cage parts, and had a good time. No trouble with the load carry, I hardly think anyone reeeeallly need too much more than 150 kg. Roof was just as flimsy in 1988, but it made it easy to knock it back up after working standing on the roof. Only thing seen of that happening was the foot prints. I believe their main use would be for those doing maintenance on train tracks, rural power lines, on bigger industrial plants, golf courses?, and maybe a supplement to a lorry carrying materlials to a building site. to have 2 extra men and some extra tools. Might be perfect for some companies?
Tbf Jimny has always been a 2 seat vehicle. My rear seats are always down. This car is perfect if you live in the city or small town and love to go camping or off-road. I consider the steel cage a free extra that most Jimny owners end up buying 😃
I've got the 'Lite' version here in Australia, so the four seat passenger vehicle with this level of trim. It's brilliant, I love that there are no frills but all the modern conveniences. AC? Got it. Bluetooth? Yes. Electric windows? Got em. Trick all-grip braking in four wheel drive? Done. Traction control and emergency brake? Yup. You get the picture. Basically everything except sat nav and the gimmicky touchscreen that infects every modern vehicle. I'll use my phone if I want those, and as far as the basic AC goes 99% of the time you just want to turn it to 'hot' or 'cold' and leave it there anyway. Anything else is just another distraction. I love the simplicity of this trim level. It just works. It's what cars used to be, and still can be - simple and fun.
I’m not sure who this vehicle is for, farmers? I love the Jimny but this version seems like a master of none. The cage makes the driving position looks very uncomfortable.
Just like most commercial vehicles, when you're a tall persons, it's somewhat hard to find a comfortable driving position. And some cars, like a VW up for example
It's the only way Suzuki could carry on selling the Jimny in the U.K., by making it a commercial vehicle. Regardless of who it's for, it's completely sold out with dealers offering new ones at up to 50% over list price.
@@pjackowspa you can either take the bottom part out and move the wire cage back as per previous post, or remove the locating tabs on the bottom section by drilling out the small welds, then the lower section moves back as well (it’s just not secured at the bottom; this doesn’t matter to me as I only have a dog in the back.
pretty smart idea, make a utilitarian version with a basic entertainment/display of controls so doesnt need to wait for a powerful processor to run all of that. pump way more cars out
So pumped the Jimny is back! I would love to take this out on some of the off-road trails by my place. The big thing in my area are the Side-by-Sides, but I would prefer something like this.
I'm sad this can't be had in the US. Regardless, I bet someone is going to swap a 400HP Suzuki motorcycle engine into it, which is going to be awesome.
I know someone who bought a commercial landrover and converted it to a passenger vehicle quite easily, the insurance company were fine with this as well. If the commercial Jimny retains all the fixtures required to add seats and seatbelts and Suzuki will sell you these parts then converting this to a passenger version should be quite easy.
As a Jimny owner, I can say that they need to upgrade the engine and transmissions instead of 5MT or 4AT (mines an auto), make them both 6-speeds, and replace the 1.5L NA with the 1.3L turbo. That should make the Jimny faster, cleaner, more fuel efficient and more attractive for those that want to use it as a daily driver with off-road capability. I’ve heard that the upcoming 5-door jimny will come with the 1.3 turbo, hopefully the 3-door will get it too.
Suzuki engines are honestly weird, these engines are super smooth and refined when driving normally but when you accelerate hard they make a diesel like sound at first and then start sounding like a supercharging but with less whistling sound. This engine is great for tuning though.
It would have been an even more useful load space if they'd have removed the windows. It's all well and good putting the cage in to protect you from things moving forward but what about side to side?
I'm short, therefore this is the best version of the Jimny for me to but.. If it was available in the US. This would be a reasonable replacement for US Mail vans too
Here in Brazil the commercial versions of normal cars were popular because they were registered with 2 seats, so you could mod it for racing pretty easily and had a lot less weight. I guess you could kit this out to be a hardcore offroader with a big camping drawer kit on the back and a tent on the roof. All this while still being registrable with only two seats.
As long as I can play music from my phone, I'm happy, I don't need a lot of screens and all that, I like this car, its design looks "clean" The bad thing is that it's pricy! I mean, wtf
Why can’t they just make a more economical and more environmentally-friendly engine for this car? The old Jimnys were slow and uneconomical, which takes some doing in such a small car!
Bought the Sz4 because l didn't want LED headlamps, heated seats, alloy rims, touch screen radio or climate control . Money saved on that will pay for deep dish plain steel rims, ARB front and rear diff locks and probably lower low range gearing, all more use to me than the afore mentioned!!
It really isn't anything to do with that, watch the Mitsubishi press conference & they explain they are leaving the EU due to the highly restrictive Covid-19 reaction, they also find it strange that they cannot compete with Euro emissions rules like the EU car companies can.
@@williamredfern5504 because I care about the environment? Wow! I just can't see the point in a small car, that's as slow as this and uneconomical. It has literally nothing going for it.

Someone in bruxelles: "This jimny is baaaad for the environment! Hybrid v8 cayenne are way better"
World is going under and nobody can see it
@@Kwatshivo so the common man shouldn't be allowed fun cars? Only the privileged? I will remove my catalytic converter and drive around all in your name
alternative take: jimny's are awesome, and v8's. i don't love hybrids or suv's, but both of those things are preferable imo to electric cars. the world isn't going to boil itself to death in the next 15 minutes, and we don't need to get rid of cars or engines or make everybody get tiny miserable cars. especially since those who pollute the absolute most, giant companies, are who should have to do something first. me or any other petrolhead driving a v8, a big truck, or even a Ferrari or Rolls are not who are causing the majority of pollution, and no matter how much greta sails about whinging at everyone, we're not all about to be evaporated by the sun monster lol
that's why they're axing the citroen c1, pedjeout 108 and the toyota igo because smaller cars deal with stricter emission laws and with the added pain in the neck of chip shortage they're better off building bigger cars. cuzz that makes sense. thanks, birocrats.
@@SoulTouchMusic93 False, the only reason why they axed the c1 and 108 is because they are of the opinion the margins on the small but economical cars are too small.. aka , MONEYYYZZZ. it has nothing to do with emissions.. the c1 and 108 and aygo where very eco friendly, they could do 22~25 km a liter. you won't do that in those big guzzeling suv's
@@Sajuuk9 I know, that's why I'm triggered. I kinda want one.
It's so beautifully utilitarian, I love it
Great for aftermarket conversion shops , most of those annoyances can be solved
Most of that is now being banned in the UK so good luck ! LOL
this little car look so cool with out any upgrades
That rear spare tyre looks like a a kid's electric G-Wagon tyre :))
The whole thing looks like a child’s plastic electric jeep that always appears on the driveway of “that” house 😉 on Christmas Day morning 🙄- you all know who I’m talking about.
4:16 - I bet you could open a hole in the roof with a can opener. The roof lining is so thin
lol
I got a 2003 model, shifted it abroad. A real joy to drive even today!
I love my little jimny. Even with all its flaws it still had more character and personality than your standard European or American econobox 😁
Is it strong in high roads ? Or you can feel the wind moving the car slightly?? I’m concerned about that
You need to rev it out but it's not lacking in torque for small little 4x4. I wouldn't recommend it for towing anything though
And above 70 on motorways requires some level of concentration but if your using it around towns it's brill 😀
YES! The 'Mericans are complaining about how plus-sized slurpies won't fit in the cup holders! LOL
Love mine, does an honest 36mpg around local roads! And you can take that cage out, then the seats go back and recline. The passenger seat reclines right back so you can get long things in.
The Jimny is my ULTIMATE dream car! Can't wait to buy one! 💛
@@Kwatshivo The Jimny is not available in the US. It's possible he's from the US, in which case he has to wait 25 years to be able to import the car.
@@ultraguy8771 I'm not from the USA
@@Kwatshivo why are you calling the jimny a "shitbox" anyway?
Suzuki Jimny 2022 vs Bronco please.
One day 😏

Decided on the Jeep Wrangler!!
@@Kwatshivo LMAO
@@Kwatshivo i guess u hate suzuki......
Every gripe about this rig is everything someone like me would love about it
It's such a cool little design! 👌
@@Kwatshivo so you just hate the Jimny, huh. Just to stop you from calling it a copy cat, Jimny was made since 1970, and G Wagon was made since 1979.
Tbf Jimny has always been a 2 seat vehicle. My rear seats are always down. This car is perfect if you live in the city or small town and love to go camping or off-road. I consider the steel cage a free extra that most Jimny owners end up buying 😃
th-cam.com/video/_khdAtJzChk/w-d-xo.html
Matt! Love your videos, sense of humor 😜
As a former Suzuki Samurai owner, I would buy one of these right now if they were available in the U.S.
I actually love this thing! The sheer simplicity of if and the 4×4 if needed of course. Do you know the weight of the car Matt?
I also love that I can put a Liger in with some steaks and not a bit to worry about 🐅 🐯
I've got the 'Lite' version here in Australia, so the four seat passenger vehicle with this level of trim.
It's what cars used to be, and still can be - simple and fun.
since my old samurai died a death ive not had a 4x4 but this jimny is more like the old styling and im hoping to pick up a commercial from work soon.
Take a shot every time Mats says: “Commercial version of the Susuki Jimny”
Can you simply unbolt the cargo space cage to recline your seat?
I’m not sure who this vehicle is for, farmers?
I love the Jimny but this version seems like a master of none. The cage makes the driving position looks very uncomfortable.
The cage is just bolted in, a few minutes and it's out and the seat can sit just how you like
Just like most commercial vehicles, when you're a tall persons, it's somewhat hard to find a comfortable driving position. And some cars, like a VW up for example
It's the only way Suzuki could carry on selling the Jimny in the U.K., by making it a commercial vehicle.
Regardless of who it's for, it's completely sold out with dealers offering new ones at up to 50% over list price.
Mennn ik love this kind of cars just super simple. It’s like a old school ofroader really like that!
The top part of the wire cage moves back (there are pre-drilled holes) to allow the seat to go back.
Tim is it not the short steel bulkhead below the wire cage that stops the seat going back?
@@pjackowspa you can either take the bottom part out and move the wire cage back as per previous post, or remove the locating tabs on the bottom section by drilling out the small welds, then the lower section moves back as well (it’s just not secured at the bottom; this doesn’t matter to me as I only have a dog in the back.
pretty smart idea, make a utilitarian version with a basic entertainment/display of controls so doesnt need to wait for a powerful processor to run all of that. pump way more cars out
Perfect, that means i can put in a stereo that is actually good at doing it's job.
Such a cute wee truck it's like a mini G wagon love it
1 week later: Suzuki brings all the comfort creature as optional extras.
What?. You are suitably named willy.
Looks better than the top spec Jimny with the black plastic
So pumped the Jimny is back! I would love to take this out on some of the off-road trails by my place. The big thing in my area are the Side-by-Sides, but I would prefer something like this.
th-cam.com/video/_khdAtJzChk/w-d-xo.html
meanwhile, in my country: The commercial version is 20-ish% less expensive than the base passenger model.
Five door Jimny? That would be great, but thought it was only an urban myth, it's been going round the internet since 2018
I owned a '91 and 2004 - moded for both speed and off roaring - loved 'em!!! Was about to look at getting a new one and now I just want to cry
Customise the hell out of one of these!
Best comment here!
Coming from a Seat Marbella this is brill.
I’ll wait for the 5 door version, fingers crossed
Fell in love with this mini Truck this year ...
Their quite popular here Johannesburg 🇿🇦
Suzuki engines are honestly weird, these engines are super smooth and refined when driving normally but when you accelerate hard they make a diesel like sound at first and then start sounding like a supercharging but with less whistling sound. This engine is great for tuning though.
Have ever any body told you that your channel is the best checking cars channel on TH-cam?😗🙂
It would have been an even more useful load space if they'd have removed the windows. It's all well and good putting the cage in to protect you from things moving forward but what about side to side?
I'm short, therefore this is the best version of the Jimny for me to but.. If it was available in the US. This would be a reasonable replacement for US Mail vans too
Yes, Jimny's are cool AF
The coolest!
I like a basic, honest, no bovine feces car, especially if it's a capable off roader.
I saw one in Guatemala and felt in love. They need it here in the USA.
Proper cool these I want one
I suppose I am not alone? I removed the annoying grill. It was quite easy and makes the Jimny more agreeable
As long as I can play music from my phone, I'm happy, I don't need a lot of screens and all that, I like this car, its design looks "clean"
The bad thing is that it's pricy! I mean, wtf
It is simple at the end of the day, Everyone loves the Jimny. Literally everyone
Another green freak
It really isn't anything to do with that, watch the Mitsubishi press conference & they explain they are leaving the EU due to the highly restrictive Covid-19 reaction, they also find it strange that they cannot compete with Euro emissions rules like the EU car companies can.
@@williamredfern5504 because I care about the environment? Wow! I just can't see the point in a small car, that's as slow as this and uneconomical. It has literally nothing going for it.
This is brilliant
It’s like it’s made for a off road hobby👍🏻👍🏻

That iron work behind your seat is 4 bolts. Undo those and you can gold the seat down and make a bed 😁👌
150kg cappacity? Thats literally equivalent to 2 grown men sitting in the back
Quite slim ones as well. Not much of a payload.
I'm not sure this is correct, mine has a payload of around 340kg but I'm in Australia and I'm not sure why it would be different there.
@@FourLowAdventures Got the SZ4 here in England and mine quite often carries around 600lbs (300kg) without any problems.
With regard to seating position u can actually remove the loading fence and fasten it a notch back allowing the backrest to be angled a fair bit more to suit most ppls need😃
Do a drag race with @yianni 🤣 we haven't seen one in a while🥲
Do you think they fell out?
Just got mine today, jungle green but with heated seats, everything else is spot on with your review !
Suzuki could sell ten’s of thousand’s more of this thing if it were available in America.
False. It costs the same as a Ford F-150, which is just objectively a much better truck (and moves the most units in North America). Half of Americans wouldn't even be able to fit in this car.
