[JPN] Metal Gear Rising : Revengeance - Armstrong speech subtitles

  • The English version of MGR did a really great job, but I thought it was interesting to see the little differences between the JPN - ENG versions.
    The Japanese dub is a bit more serious and less quotable than the English, but I do prefer Japanese Raiden. I do like how Armstrong just calls out Raiden as a huge hypocrite on all his standing-up-for-the-weak shtick though. Raiden's been cutting a path through at least 3 different games at this point, he's clearly not very weak at all, he's just forcing everyone else to tow the line same as Armstrong has.

    1:00 I prefer how in the English version raiden says “THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?!” It shows how confused and almost concerned he is about fighting a literal United States Senator which perfectly captures the feelings of the player at this point. In the Japanese version he seems to be more concerned for Armstrong and how he could be injured due to not being armed.

    It's so strange how their speeches are so similar yet equally so different. In English, Armstrong emits the idea that anarchy is a good way to get rid of the delusional America that's been lied to and have people fight for what they believe in. While the Japanese version seems to focus more on ridding America of all of it's political cowards that control everything from the shadows, letting everyone who wants to make a change have a chance to stand up for themselves. Regardless of how long this post is, this game is art, and that's all there is to it.

    • @kakizakichannel
      @kakizakichannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Armstrong isn't an anarchist in English, he's just lying to manipulate Raiden. Also killing all the poors so the "strongest" (richest) can change the laws to suit them is the opposite of anarchist.

    • @PantherIsa
      @PantherIsa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Armstrong never spoke of anarchy, people who understand it that way. He even says in his speech who would be war, that is, it's not for everyone and he's already taken civilians out of the equation, if people didn't learn to interpret in school, it's understandable that they and others get it wrong, but it's also not enough to be a master of grammar, they have to know the whole story, because what Armstrong proposes is a solution to a problem that was left at the end of MGS4. The history of MG has as the profession of soldiers, pmcs and etc a way of life as if it were any other, it is not like in the real world. Armstrong doesn't want everyone to kill themselves, he told Sam that they would do organized violence, without causing civilian deaths, one of the reasons Sam understood what he proposes.
      Another thing is in relation to the screenwriter of this game, Etsu Tamari, a master, a genius, because he reflected on Raiden that people would interpret Armstrong wrong and that's what happened, the senator is so desperate with the misunderstanding that he didn't even want to fight, shown in dialogue that he asks Raiden to JUST TALK about it. Because yes, again, the weak and strong are not literal. Almost everybody gets this wrong, but it's explained in the codec, music, and dlc.
      Strong are people who don't settle, who fight against everything and everyone, motivated by the ideas they believe in, it can be me, you, or a person who is hungry...
      Strong are people that does nothing, the one who has money but tells others to do it for him, just like tycoons and people with monetary conditions who could change the world but do nothing.
      This is set in the DLC, when Sam thought he was one of those weak types and so, too, that he says he misunderstood him later when Armstrong gets up and insists on making him join him. Also set in Collective Consciousness.
      Etsu Tamari loves The Boss and that's why her and Armstrong's ideal of unifying the world are very similar. And that's probably why he's called Armstrong. Because of the Astronaut, Neil Armstrong. The Boss had her ideal of unifying the world when she went into space to test the cabin and Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. It's a poetic message from a writer in love with a character and that's why Armstrong is one of the most genius and complex characters I've ever seen, who I was delighted to study and see how wrong I was about him. And there are still stupid people who say he is a parody of Trump when the game was written years before the game's launch and at that time there was no idea that Trump would be political. This is all because people take it to an ideological side that didn't even exist when the game was created and so many misinterpret Armstrong. Raiden himself understood, and we know this from the song It Has To Be This Way, because this song is his and not Armstrong's, the lyrics of this song show what he sees in the Senator. The proof that this song is by Raiden is Murasama's mechanics, if people don't even know that, then they shouldn't even have an opinion on Metal Gear or Armstrong. To know this and much more, people have to know the details, the conversations and who wrote it, they also have to open their mind and remove any real reference, because ideological battle from the real world did not exist at the time.

    People think it's going to be the same as the western, but there's only one thing, he's already said that civilians will remain the same, so whoever kills a civilian, either he will take care of eliminating the murderer, or someone who wants to do justice, will be supported by him. Understand that Armstrong's speech doesn't start at that moment, his speech starts when he first show up to Raiden, when he's talking about what the Patriots left and ends when he dies. It's no use taking just a part or just this game, you have to know that their world is the post disaster in MGS4.

    Hm, nicely done with the Subtitles and if they really are accurate then, while I do like what we got with the English Dub, I do now actually kind of wish that it could’ve been a little more accurate to the Japanese.

    I’m still amazed that this game was not originally in English. The English dub just fits more to me for some reason. Doesn’t mean this isn’t good though.

      About time somebody doesn’t jerk off japanese VA’s for once. I wish Weebs could admit that there’s actually a lot of bad Japanese voice acting in the world, it’s just people seem to not notice it because of the language barrier, and trust me this is one of those examples.
