      I have single strand knots no matter what, I usually wash my hair and then put it in small twist or 4 braids.wear it in a low bun for a week while oiling my scalp and moisturizing my ends throughout the week and then when i take it down and its still fine i wear a twist out or braid out for a few days.my hair is growing alot even with single strand knots, i hate seeing them but i dont cut them anymore because they just come back as you said

    You just have to accept as a natural you are going to get single strand knots if your in the type 3 or 4 category. It makes no sense to cut your hair every time you see them. All you can do is keep your ends protected and trimmed when needed. I wear twists for the majority of time when my hair is in a natural state. You style it once with product and then you are done. This cuts out over manipulation and doing the most to your hair.

    • @sheilasby9898
      @sheilasby9898 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Honestly I wish I knew this years ago.. I never retained any length because I was constantly cutting my hair because of ssk..as long as you have type 3 or 4 hair, you will get them...learn to accept and work with them.

    • @lolad6083
      @lolad6083 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@sheilasby9898 SSK or fairy knots are still a type of split end. I “search & destroy” trim them when I see them because they will create more. They also assist is tangling the hair and breaking hair. If you get frequent ssk you want to switch up your moisture routine. I noticed the more moisturized my hair was the less I got them. Especially ends.

    • @tonih4887
      @tonih4887 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@lolad6083 I would also like to add for me when I wear a “wash n go” the hair and ends curl up and entangle more frequently causing fairy knots and split ends. You can in some ways lessen this not cure it but wearing your hair more frequently in twists out and Bantu lengthening with satin scrunches. Protecting the ends with this will lessen the split ends and dryness. I used to plateau at bra strap length then I stopped doing the wash n goes and finally reached waist length hair in curly state doing the twist outs and protected banded style more frequently. I seldom do a wash in go because this causes more tangling, fairy knots and split ends. If you find yourself trimming constantly more than the rate of your hair growth you need to rethink your products and hair style choices.

    • @lametramurdock4580
      @lametramurdock4580 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Today is day one of my going the stretched method to see if it helps with growth. I haven't seen SSK in a while wearing my hair unstretched. I just keep my hair moisturized and in twists and I get rid of the shed hair every 3 days or so. I learned the shed hair can add to tangles and SSK. Now I'm trying the stretched hair method with twists to see how my hair responds...we shall see. 😊

    • @laer.393
      @laer.393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep, same! i love my fully shrunken kinky hair but it doesn’t want to retain length that way, gotta keep it stretched and minimize tangles. also just accepting the knots isn’t a good idea for me because personally if i had any they would snag when i would comb or brush my hair, causing breakage.

    • @bre6651
      @bre6651 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My hair is like 3c in the font and a tad bit tighter in the back but it's mad fine. So blowing it out and then rocking a twist out or just a bun has changed the game for me. Not only that but it's so much easier to part my hair and apply oils nightly. I was always ripping and causing frizz when I tried to give myself scalp massage while it's curly

  • @Ty-mr2kq

    I wash and blow dry my hair once a month and I now do the same for my daughter because it works for our hair. I found that when I started doing this our hair really began to flourish. We have less shedding and it grows better. I do a ACV and rice water rinse, followed by a deep conditioner monthly and before I blow dry I add leave in and heat protectant. It's been working.

  • @kiana4803
    @kiana4803 2 ปีที่แล้ว +53

    anyone dealing with single strand knots needs to start washing weekly. when you wait weeks or even months to wash, your hair gets more dry and shed hairs get trapped in your hair which is a recipe for tangles. I wear my hair out in a braid out everyday and i barely deal with single strand knots anymore because i wash/condition/detangle weekly. this is why i don’t do box braids or protective styles for more than two weeks anymore, it causes tangles. my hairs been growing crazy fast since washing often too 🤷🏾‍♀️

    When I was consistent on my hair routine…. Henna treatments, keeping my hair stretched (not allowing it to shrink upon its self)…. I avoided ssk’s 90% of the time. Doing buns using just a hair tie, lazy Covid hair routine, not using a detangler…. I got ssk’s like crazy

    • @iammariejas
      @iammariejas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Off topic question but what hair type do you have? I saw you mention you included henna in your regular hair routine. I am interested in trying henna but haven’t seen much review on it from people with type 4 hair.

    Hey all! Single strand knots are demonnnnsssss!!! And it's cousin, the tangles OMGGG hate them! I just took out my twists which I know were way passed my 3 weeks wash day FYI left them for 5 weeks and of course, SSK AND TANGLES!! But, with all that I cut, my hair looks like nothing happened at all! Thickness and length is still there just, well a few pieces are shorter cause I cut them but hey it's hair and will grow back! My treatments work but will leave hair straight in a low bun for a week, then change it up! My curly hair just can't be left too long cause they tangle, get SSKs. Cut my ends too!!!
