    My biggest mistake is taking advice from people who are not cosmologists or doctors. I watch you ladies. But, I stop taking advice from y'all when it comes to products. And those who say drink this eat that take this vitamin.... lordddddd my bathroom looked like a beauty supply store and pharmacy all at the same time.

    • @CammyjOfficial
      @CammyjOfficial  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +64

      Hello 👋🏾! I agree that advice from anyone who isn’t a professional should be taken with a grain of salt. My bathroom used to look like that too because I would run out and buy whatever people said was supposed to be the next best thing for natural hair. Now I have a much more simplistic approach to my hair care routine. I keep it simple and use products that my hair likes. If I like the product I recommend people try it for themselves and form their own opinion because everyone’s hair is different. Thank you for watching!

      @@CammyjOfficialI can understand tweaking it to fit. I did gain a better understanding of shampoos and I learned that I absolutely cannot go more than 3 days without lubricating my hair. My biggest mistake? Over manipulation! Finger coiling trying to get poppin’ curls and perfect frizz free ringlets. The hours wasted. My hair type is soft and frizzy. She loves soft curls with “perfect” frizz. She hates strong definition and refuses to do it. So we don’t. 😂

      Omg i just made a comment about a stylist in my family who i go to and she recently made a comment like this as well to another client of hers. She also literally has over 20yrs of experience so it’s not like she’s a novice. She has another young client who is in college and she has been doing her hair since she was a kid. Now that the girl is caring for her hair herself, this stylist said to her that “natural hair isn’t for everyone and maybe you should try a relaxer”. I wasn’t even shocked just disappointed because I confirmed what i already knew. Mind you God forbid anyone gives her constructive criticism.

    4C fine hair here:
    Mistake 1: Coconut oil. It fried my hair like a flame
    Mistake 2: Using all natural products. Ny hair loves sulfates and shampoos designed for Caucasians such as Garnier Fructis, Whole Blends, Elive by L'Oreal, Herbal Essences and Aveeno Apple Cider Vinegar shampoos. I also use Doo Gro Mega Thick and Mega Long deep conditioners and Cholesterol

    I grew my hair from shoulder length to waist length. Here’s a list of my mistakes and successes.
    Mistake 1: Not protecting my ends. My hair was growing, even if I neglected it. I just never saw that growth because I didn’t protect my ends.
    Mistake 2: Over-manipulation/moisture overload. I would try to do a bunch of different styles, when really all my hair needed was to be clipped up, put in a bun, or even wrapped in a headscarf. The constant brushing and daily product reapplication weakened my hair and actually ripped and broke some of it off.
    Mistake 3: Neglecting the dietary element. You would be surprised just how much your diet and even exercise affects your hair. If you feed the body junk it will reflect in your hair, and there is not a single hair vitamin that’s going to fix it.
    Success 1: MAKING MY OWN PRODUCTS. This changed the whole game for me honestly. After doing research on what my hair needed and what raw ingredients are made to meet said needs, my hair flourished. This took a lot of research and trial and error, but it was 100% worth it for me.
    Success 2: Claw clips. I mentioned this in mistake 2, but this was a major part of how I was able to look professional without putting my hands in my hair all the time. My hair likes to be left alone, so this was perfect.
    Success 3: Taking care of the scalp. This includes oils, water, and massages. The scalp is skin too, and like soil beneath a tree, requires maintenance if what grows from it is supposed to be healthy. I work to keep my scalp moisturized with water and oils (not applied every day, that’s too much) and scalp massages.

    Ya know, i always loved watching natural hair videos, but when it blew up a few years ago, everyone was asking me what i did yo grow my hair, wash my hair, style it. I always kept it simple. I wash with shampoo and conditioner and then i blowdry with a 30 dollar....not 300 dollar blowdryer with pick attachment. Been doing this since my mom did my hair as a kid. I'm 42. TH-cam be doing way too much.
    Keep it simple. If your hair smells unfresh, wash it. Feels too greasy, wash it. Smells like fried chicken, wash it. Got caught in a dust storm, wash it. Won't style right because its dirty, wash it. Itchy scalp, wash it! Protect your hair by wearing a bonnet or scarf when busy or lounging around. Put a little jojoba oil post wash. Thats it. K I S.....Keep It Simple.

    Biggest Mistakes- Color and going to a salon. Every time that I wound go to the salon, it was a disaster. I came to the realization that I know my special type of hair better than anyone. I have been doing my own hair, including trimming, since 2012. I kept trying to take a break and let someone else do it. The only time I had setbacks is when I wound go to the salon. I doubt that I will ever let ANYONE touch my hair with shears again. I am a professional (not in hair) and I trim my hair. As far as I’m concerned, I get a professional trim. And I assess my hair by the way it behaves.

    All those trends have worked for my hair and grew my hair because I took care of it like it was a baby and gave it the consistency and attention it needed. I use oils with the onion juice , rice water, rosemary, and all the other foods that I learned about on TH-cam to keep my hair feeling soft and manageable. I even hot oil treat my hair with evoo before washing my hair which helped a lot. I Love the fact that TH-cam videos have helped my hair grow like crazy. And this is the God’s honest truth . This is great information especially mentioning not following someone else’s regimen as it may not work for you. I personally made that mistake before especially trying “all natural and clean” products organic products in my opinion have so much protein in them where my hair was snapping off like a twig over the least manipulation I would do even just simply touching it. I also had random bald spots from these products. That’s when I decided to find what works for me and stick to it. I’m using old school 90 products and my hair and scalp loves it. No more dryness no more hair loss, in fact the products I’m using now grew in my bald spots that I always struggled with curing since the damage happened. I’ll never stop using them they are affordable and they get me through all four seasons of the year. 😊

    Biggest setback was going to a family stylist trying to support them. Both as relaxed and natural. I went back only because my new main cosmetologist was pregnant and out of work for a few months. My hair is healthy because i have always taken professional advice (which i will always do for anything thats a professional is needed for) but i also learned to trust my gut! Maintaining healthy natural hair requires proper care and attention. Here are some tips to help you keep your natural hair in the best condition:
    Regular Washing:
    Wash your hair with a sulfate-free, hydrating shampoo and conditioner. How often you wash your hair depends on your hair type, but it's generally recommended every 1-2 weeks.
    Deep Conditioning:
    Use a deep conditioner or hair mask regularly to moisturize and strengthen your hair. Deep conditioning helps prevent breakage and promotes healthy hair growth.
    Protective Styling:
    Minimize heat styling and tight hairstyles that can damage your hair. Opt for protective styles like braids, twists, or buns to reduce exposure to environmental factors and manipulation.
    Trimming:
    Regularly trim your hair to remove split ends and prevent them from traveling up the hair shaft, causing further damage.

    I loved this, my hair flourished while I was in the military wearing buns or 2 braids M-F and washing every Friday and only wearing twist-outs then. Now that I'm out of the military, my curls were looser where I used to brush my hair flat, so I now do wash and gos more and my curls love it but my ends get fairy knots SOOO much that I over-trim now, so my length has stayed at bra strap length due to breakage. So now, I'm trying to figure out how to battle the fairy knots in wash and gos and in mini twist. It's been a battle and now my hair doesn't like twistouts anymore. 😑 lol Idk what my hair wants anymore, she is soft and moisturized but the ends are annoying. About to try putting blue magic on the ends to see if that helps.

    I’m here because I was past due for a trim . I’ve been wearing a sew in for the past 2-3 years on and off and my hair was thriving and growing underneath so well. There could’ve been multiple reasons why I had to get a cut rather than a trim after I took the extensions out. I was impatient and did not take time to detangle my hair well. My initial wash and go was so bad. After getting a cut at the end of Oct , I still didn’t treat my hair well. Putting my hair in a high bun most days and without wearing a satin scarf during bedtime. I have soooo many fairy knots. I’m reading the other comments and I notice that some are saying that it’s caused from wash and go. This may be true also in my case because I’d let it air dry rather than diffuse. My pre poo, wash, detangle, apply products routine is already so long. I don’t want to add an extra 30-40 mins to diffuse 🥴. Right now I’m keeping my ends tucked and in a twist out to keep the moisture locked in . I’m so disappointed in myself. My current length is shorter than what it was last January and I know that I’m going to have to trim some more cause of these fairy knots 😭

    The biggest mistakes I’ve made for my hair is doing a wash and go. My hair is very prone to tangles and single strand knots regardless of how many trims I do. My ends always suffer with wash n go’s and my hair never recovers until a detox. All that extra BS for a style called a wash n go is so unnecessary

    • @CammyjOfficial
      @CammyjOfficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I never knew why they called the style a wash n go. It’s a wash N SLOW. The name makes it seem like you can just wash your hair and move on quickly, when in reality it takes time to apply the gel, the leave ins and then you have to sit under the dryer too 😂!

    First, it was using gels that dried out my hair. Gels that gave me definition I wanted but left my hair crunchy and hard. I prefer a medium hold and softer curls. Fortunately I found a leave in and gel that gives me everything I like my hair to be, soft and moisturized, yet have holding power for 6-7 days, mega curl definition and shine. Now if they ever stop making it, I’m in trouble. I do have a backup it’s just not as moisturizing but otherwise I get the same results, however it’s a seasonal product, go figure. Second, using shampoos that tangled my hair. Luckily I found 2 shampoos/same brand that has a detox and moisturizing shampoo. Both are amazing because I can run my fingers through my hair when shampooing. Third I watch TH-cam hair videos just for fun but I now do what I know my hair responds to and I don’t have to try every product under the sun.

      @@299justme I knew someone would ask but the only reason I didn’t include them is not everything works for everyone. All hair textures are different and genetics play a roll as well. My kinky coils had become dry. Within the last couple of months things are changing. I started using cool water to rinse out my deep conditioners and my goal now is to use only a leave in and gel, not leave in, cream, gel and/or mousse. I needed to simplify my routine and as a result my hair takes less time to dry. I am not telling anyone to try these products. I am not an influencer. Be forewarned, they are on the pricier side and will have to be ordered because no local stores have them as I am aware. Amazon does have Miche products. The main products I was referring to are: SHAMPOO: Miche Beauty’s Detox Gentle Clarifying Shampoo and their Cleansed Moisturizing Shampoo. They work very well for me. I don’t use heavy oils and butters. STYLERS & CONDITIONERS: Miche have a new Limited Edition Tropical Oasis Gel and Deep Conditioner that are AMAZING. I used their lightweight spray leave in from one of their other lines called Boost with this gel. It’s a humidity fighting gel. If you are in a warm climate like I am give it a try. I did however use their Set mousse with this combo. I liked it very much. My favorite STYLER right now is a new product by Mane Krush. It’s called Kurl Bae Gelly, used with the Amore Leave In after using their deep conditioner Holy Grail. All 3 superb!!! The description they gave was EVERYTHING and more. It gave me hold without crunch, amazing definition and touchable, movable curls with a natural shine. If you like a medium hold you may like it. I’ve only used it once. I was trying to finish using another product I have but it was so amazing I ordered 2 more in the 12 once size. I initially got an 8 oz gel. They were 40% off at the time. Right now they are 30% off. I’m waiting for the Thanksgiving sale fingers cross they have one. One thing to note if you purchase they take I think they said about 15 days to process and there is a $10 shipping charge. That’s it in a nutshell. These are my go to shampoos, leave ins and stylers. I have to say of the few mousses that I’ve tried, Miche Beauty’s Set is my choice. It’s very moisturizing. I also use it with their Sculpt Gel which is the same line as the mousse. Again medium hold. My preference.
