This is probably the best point and click adventure ever. As a huge fan of Space Quest IV due to nostalgia, this was still the best game my family played when it came out. Like SQIV, we did not have the speech version and missed out on the best version.
I love these classic point and click adventures...I started back on the C64 & 128. So many memories . Thanks for this and all your other amazing videos!
Planned sequels After the release of the game, a story for a supposed successor in the adventure genre was conceived by Joe Pinney, Hal Barwood, Bill Stoneham, and Aric Wilmunder. Titled Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix, it was set after World War II and featured Nazis seeking refuge in Bolivia, trying to resurrect Adolf Hitler with the philosopher's stone. The game was in development for 15 months before it was showcased at the European Computer Trade Show. However, when the German coordinators discovered how extensively the game dealt with Neo-Nazism, they informed LucasArts about the difficulty of marketing the game in their country. As Germany was an important overseas market for adventure games, LucasArts feared that the lower revenues would not recoup development costs, and subsequently canceled the game. The plot was later adapted into a four-part Dark Horse Comics series by Lee Marrs, published monthly from December 1994 to March 1995. In an interview, Barwood commented that the development team should have thought about the story more thoroughly beforehand, calling it insensitive and not regretting the cancellation of the title. Another follow-up game called Indiana Jones and the Spear of Destiny was planned, which revolved around the Spear of Longinus. Development was outsourced to a small studio, but eventually stopped as LucasArts did not have experience with the supervision of external teams. Elaine Lee loosely reworked the story into another four-part comic book series, released from April to July 1995.
Great stuff, thanks for bringing this back! Love Indy, excited for the 5th film. I always wanted to play this when I was young but never got the chance so watching your play through is amazing, thanks and take care
While I had played adventure games before this game, this was the first game I got when I got my first PC. I was so looking forwards to playing this game (it has Indiana Jones finding Atlantis!) that I told a lot of people about it in the months before my PC was ready. I had ordered a copy from mail order store but I did not know when it would arrive. On the evening of the day that my new PC was delivered my nephew came by and gave me a copy of the CD rom version. Turned out be a good thing as the mail order store was out of copies as a while later I received a message to inform me about it. I still would really like to have a big boxed version of Indy and the Fate of Atlantis. I already liked Lucasarts games on the consoles but their adventures definitely made me a fan of the company.
If you bypass Biff instead of knocking him out, Sophia actually suggests you going the wits path. And if you persuade him to let you in, she will propose the team path.
Yes i realized that later on, but didnt want to hassle again from the beginning. You can also sneak in thru moving boxes and climb in from back window.
@@thriftweeds That's what I meant with bypassing. And depending on how you deal with Biff, Sophia is suggesting different paths: Fists when knocking Biff out, Team when persuading Biff and Wits when bypassing Biff. It is still your choice, but if you pick one of the other two paths, you have to confirm whether you are really sure. Having said that, the Wits path is the best, the Fists and then Team. Wits has all the puzzles, while Team is sort of a light version, in which the complete Thera island is missing. And Fists is a nice alternative in which in most cases you don't have to fist fight, but can get rid of the guards an alternative way. And it is the best path for a movie, if there would be ever made one.
@@Nikioko and there i was, thinking there was nothing new for me in that game. Didnt know that would actually change the dialogue as i always sneaked by the boxes (of course i did the other paths too, but never realized the dialogue change)
@@Nikioko Playing the Fists at my friend's house and finally defeating the unbeatable guard with the boulder... the satisfaction, and us in hysterics at the line "...oof!" ... One of my fondest ever memories. And that's no lie!
Online? Both Steam and GOG have it for sale along with the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade adventure game, and the Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine and Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb action-adventure games.
If this meant to be a walkthru, i cant help but think its the worst walkthru evern seen of YT: You can finish it in 2 hours, not 4, if only u have a far idea of what you have to do in order to progress the game. You go along just keeping and keeping trying what to do with no idea of how to use the items. If this is your first time with IJATFOA its well played, but if this is a walthru..well, u completely missed the target.
As you can see this was not a speed run! I used some hints from solution also for remember and i tend to take time and check and show everything every room, and speak to everyone and maybe try different things and no rush intended! I have completed this couple of times in my life, first in 90's then around 2000 with fists path and now wits ....
@@thriftweeds I didnt meant to sound unpolite, its just the way THIS particular walkthru that "disturbed" me..i mean there is nothing wrong in checking paths and different solutions but many times i thought this was the first time u were playing the game.

And we did not know until many years later there were 3 different games depending upon your early choice!
Sad Space Quest V didn't have a speech version even it was planned but never made it :(

This level of VGA-like graphics is just right than the latest 3D, which is almost like live action.
Together with monkey 1 and Loom, the best games ever. At least the ones that I enjoyed the most in my childhood. Loom was magical
