Besides Islets, definitely recommend checking out Haak and Blasphemous 2, both are great. Infernax is _amazing_ as a two-player game, it honestly makes the single-player play look pretty pedestrian.
Ever tried Rabi Ribi? Now that's an intense 10/10 game. Fearmonium is another amazing game. I love this genre, but I didn't know most of these game, so thanks for sharing.
Rabi-Ribi is absolutely amazing for both boss design and world exploration/non-linearity, and it's one of the most replayable games in the genre with the sheer number of difficulty options, the 0% game, the different ways to path to everything, and so on. Game is absolutely packed with content, too. I would maybe knock a point off for the normal enemy designs not being particularly fun to fight, though, especially on higher difficulties. (I personally just rush for Survival and ignore most enemies except to get off 1 HP at this point.)
I picked up Islets after watching a stream of it and was just so entranced by the vibes and the simple, but fluid gameplay. I'd been playing some longer, more complex and overall tiring games before I tried Islets and it was exactly what I needed at the time. I'm really biased, but I couldn't recommend it enough

I know that I'm gonna be playing more than half of the games in this video. Pseudoregalia in particular might be next on my "to-play" list.
Chiaroscuro definitely seems interesting. I would hope that especially that criticism about the particle effects when hitting enemies and the inability to combo them properly is taken into heart. Wishlisting this for sure.
I love that you're doing a Metroidvania, Iron Pineapple SDD type series now. You do have the street cred for such an endeavor. Not sure if you already played it, but Unsighted is a criminally underrated Metroid/Zeldalike that some people hated because of a weird mechanic it has which forces you to play kinda fast and not really explore taking your sweet time. That being said, I like how it kept me on my toes during the whole game, and it can be disabled anyway. Also, sapphic robots.
There are so many great games in this genre and with games like Aeterna Noctis, death's gambit and Enders Lilies all getting sequels, who needs to rely on a one hit wonder studio like team cherry, it's a great time to be a metroidvania lover!
Rusted Moss looks so good, I'm sad that a game that is so clearly up my alley never even got recommended to me through Steam and I even other the other Metroidvania's published by Playism.
I highly recommend you look at Laika: Aged Through Blood. It manages to present an incredibly dark and tragic story and setting while still managing to be beautiful, and has gone criminally unnoticed.
I deleted my previous post about Rusted Moss, I think I choose poorly the words, and I was being too negative instead of focusing on the good things. First thing first, the game is good, and we can see that it has a lot of effort by devs. Lore, music, game mechanic, pixel art, translations are all well-made. And the game was made only by 3 people, with makes it impressive. But if you're not skilled in keyboard/mouse, and you play Metroidvania for 100% completion, you may want to avoid this one. If you don't play in keyboard but don't mind for total completion or the other way around it's fine, only if the both things hit you than you may consider what I said.
I got Pseudoregalia for Christmas, and it was easily some of the most fun I've had in a platformer in ages! The combat is definitely very rough around the edges, and there's shockingly few enemies, even for a game under ten hours in length, but the platforming and immaculate vibes make up for it! (Also Sybil looks better with the baggy pants, fight me)
Great video, I love Iron pineapple's videos and metroidvanias so this is great! If this becomes a series, Yoku's island express is a (pinball) metroidvania I played this year that I feel deserves more love
I just finished 100% it and I absolutely agree, this game's amazing. I have had a handful of crashes, but usually you don't lose any progress because it frequently autosaves. Biggest issues are sometimes it can be hard to complete quests and there's a lot of unmarked things happening on the map... Apparently that was fixed in an update, but sometimes you can still run into unmarked things because the main map markers they added are directly related to quests. One achievement is the aftermath to a quest line and the final location is not marked on the map.
I love how Faerie Afterlight (a game that has a weird and complex name) looked at its villian and said okay reversing "Very Dark" is good enough for its name :D
Recommendation, try out Tunic, there is no game like it, but If you want to play it, do not spoil your self, or you will lose all these special aaaaaaa! moments ;)
Thx for also showing some of the gameplay, i liked watching it a lot, when i saw you playing rusted moss i thought, hey, this seems like a fun game, so im probably gonna play it myself too soon
Hyper Light Drifter and Touhou Luna Nights if you're thinking of doing another one of these. "8 metroidvanias you've never heard of before" is a pretty fun twist on Pinapple's soul's series, and arguably overlap quite a bit (since soulslikes and metroidvanias go together like coffee and donuts). looking forward to more of these, and I'll def be checking out Rusted Moss
Bloody Hell looks like it's a lot of fun, I'm definitely checking it out now. I've seen quite a few different student projects and this definitely looks like one of the best, the guys that made it are clearly super talented.
I swear whenever I see a new Hornet Silksong thumbnail in my recommendations I always get excited on an instinctive level then disappointed when I see it has nothing to do with the release date.
I actually really enjoyed goo keeper. The devs took my feedback and made some great changes. It does many things very well the further you go in the game. There’s definitely some visual Janine’s but if you can look past it, it’s a really fun time
Been meaning to buy pseudoregalia since i saw it during a game round up video, added to the wish list and just forgot about it, even seeing it on sale my mind just kind of overlook it. A nice refresher like this video was just what i needed.
Ghost song is probably going to be the best metroidvania you're going to play outside hollow night. After image pretty good too. I'm incredibly picky when it comes to metroidvanias so you can trust me on this. But ghost song is probably one of the best Metroid videos I've ever played in my life. So many hidden mechanics in the game You don't even realize are there till you're nearing the end. It's essentially the m-rated Metroid we always wanted. And frankly, it puts Metroid to shame
It definitely kinda sucks how a lot of hk fans sit around and complain about silksong instead they of just actually playing other games There’s so many other amazing indie merroidvanias out there (alot of which I prefer more than hk) that deserve much more attention and these ppl definitely would enjoy, you’re doing a good thing shining some light on a couple super obscure ones.

The entire video is fireb0rn playing Metroidvanias and TH-cam puts the video in the Hollow Knight: Silksong category. Incredible
Silksong is the only metroidvania ever, thats why /J
Rusted Moss looks so good, I'm sad that a game that is so clearly up my alley never even got recommended to me through Steam and I even other the other Metroidvania's published by Playism.
I highly recommend you look at Laika: Aged Through Blood. It manages to present an incredibly dark and tragic story and setting while still managing to be beautiful, and has gone criminally unnoticed.
I second this
When you don't realize he made a video on it 2 months ago
its just that criminally unnoticed!@@glitchgaming1679
Great video, love the Iron Pineapple format for Metroidvanias. Some good recommendations, would love to see more videos like this.
The "gruesome" artwork is EXACTLY why I wanna play Infernax! 🤘🤘
I dig that Rusted Moss is Midsummer's night Dream in postapocalypses with grappling hook. It's just neat ❤
For recent Metroidvania, I suggest Afterimage. The game is a little unstabble but it is a god game. The ambiance is insane ^^
Islets is fantastic! Great to see other people play it. :D Thanks for doing a video like this!
Next video gonna be "I played ALL metrodvania in existence while waiting for Silksong"
I love how Faerie Afterlight (a game that has a weird and complex name) looked at its villian and said okay reversing "Very Dark" is good enough for its name :D
PLAY ISLETS!!! I could NOT recommend that gorgeous, magical little game more!! That game (and the tour guide) deserve ALL of your love!
Recommendation, try out Tunic, there is no game like it, but If you want to play it, do not spoil your self, or you will lose all these special aaaaaaa! moments ;)
One of the people who worked on Pseudoregalia was also one of the devs for a 2D metroidvania game called Vernal Edge, which is pretty solid.
I love when knowing random trivia makes me feel smart, Titania is the queen of the Fae :D
Sci-fi x classic fiction? Count me in!!!
0:57 HE HAS SILKSONG! FORWARD CHARGE! SEIZE SILKSONG FROM HIM, DEAD OR ALIVE!
I love how you picked relatively unknown games instead of the ones EVERYONE knows like Bloodstained, Ender Lillies, Deaths Gambit, Blasphemous etc.
Thx for also showing some of the gameplay, i liked watching it a lot, when i saw you playing rusted moss i thought, hey, this seems like a fun game, so im probably gonna play it myself too soon
I would really like to see fire playing Blasphemous 1 or 2
Tysm for helping me learn to speedrun! My time has improved from over 3 hours to 47:08 all thanks to your videos. Also, keep up the great content!
Thx for doing this. Currently replaying HK, I honestly... will wait for Silksong.
Tries playing other Metroidvanias, Metroid Dread and… what’s the newest castlevania?: Am I a joke to you?
Rusted Moss is a big reference to Midsummer Night's Dream! Puck and Titania are both fae
Bloody Hell looks like it's a lot of fun, I'm definitely checking it out now. I've seen quite a few different student projects and this definitely looks like one of the best, the guys that made it are clearly super talented.
Nice chill video! I enjoyed watching this compilation! (I need to try to catch you over on Twitch live more!!)
17:34 this was the funniest censor ever lol
"false knight tantrum thingy" is hilarious
Love how is moustache gets progressively thicker with every new game
I swear whenever I see a new Hornet Silksong thumbnail in my recommendations I always get excited on an instinctive level then disappointed when I see it has nothing to do with the release date.
Ah yes. The goat person completely covered from head to f hoof in fur looks sooooo cold.
I actually really enjoyed goo keeper. The devs took my feedback and made some great changes. It does many things very well the further you go in the game. There’s definitely some visual Janine’s but if you can look past it, it’s a really fun time
God Gamers episode idea: How the whole community scraped off every single detail out of Hollow Knight while waiting for Silksong.
Aeterna Noctis is a MUST play for any Metroidvania fan. One of the best I've ever played. Would love to see you try it out.
The Pseudo regalia sequence breaks are insane
Chiaroscuro gives such rainworld vib3s, so cool
Been meaning to buy pseudoregalia since i saw it during a game round up video, added to the wish list and just forgot about it, even seeing it on sale my mind just kind of overlook it. A nice refresher like this video was just what i needed.
Anyone who needs a challenging 3D/2.5D platformer...Crash Bandicoot is a classic 👌🏽
The second one got me to rethink furry p-
omg i just started watching and saw rusted moss footage, I love that game so much
Imagine a drug so power that you experience withdrawal despite never even taking it.
Silksong: Doesn't exist
Fire: *Spongebob* I DONT NEED IT
Congratulations On 400k Subscribers!
It definitely kinda sucks how a lot of hk fans sit around and complain about silksong instead they of just actually playing other games
There’s so many other amazing indie merroidvanias out there (alot of which I prefer more than hk) that deserve much more attention and these ppl definitely would enjoy, you’re doing a good thing shining some light on a couple super obscure ones.
The plague doctor's movement feels like it references Crow-sworn, which probably references back to Hollow Knight.
I love the cheeky bbeg name in Faerie Afterlight. Kardyrev is Very Dark backwards.
lmao the doctor and rose in Chiaroscuro. that's funny
Chiaroscuro looks really nice, actually. I might decide to check that out myself.
you uploaded this at the perfect time in my life
